weekend. thanks so much for joining us. i'm kris sanchez. let's get a quick look at your weekend forecast with jennifer hill. well, this morning, high pressure is building in. we can see that right here. a little dome of high pressure creating some clear skies for us today. of course, some fog around. some morning drizzle. that will give way to clearer skies. if you want even more clear weather, we are going to have to wait until tomorrow. you are hiding out this morning. temperatures are pretty cool, in the 40s. 48, san francisco. 48, redwood city and 47, livermore. by lunch hour, temperatures in the 50s and 60s. we want to get you started straight away with breaking news. police in new york city say one of bernard madoff's sons is dead of an apparent suicide. a family member found mark madoff hanged in his manhattan apartment just hours ago. mark and his younger brother, andrew, were under investigation

but not charged in the ponzi scheme that fed their father billions of dollars and left thousands of investors pennyless including some here in the bay area. bernie madoff is serving a 150-year prison term. mark madoff was 45. an antioch, police are trying to find a person who may have shoved a woman from a moving car about 5:30 yesterday afternoon. officers found the 42-year-old antioch woman on l street with massive head injuries. she later tiedied. they only have a vague description of the car, a newer podle purple or dark blue mini-van. if you saw anything on "l" street in antioch around 5:30 yesterday, you should call police. a fairfield neighborhood is quiet after six hours of police activity. a cleaning crew called police to a home on 100 block of sparrow lane after finding suspicious

newspaper clippings with glass jars of unknown powders. the findings amounted to a false alarm. a cross-country search for a 12-year-old girl and the man that may have killed her mother ends here in the bay area. this morning, investigators from virginia will pick up the girl and the suspect in san francisco. the nationwide manhunt started in roanoke, virginia, last night an ended in a safeway store in the outer richmond district. the suspected killer and kidnapper is in jail and will soon be taken back. an amber alert was issued for jeffrey easley and his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter, brittany smith, after the girl's mother was found dead in her home. they were spotted in surveillance video buying camping gear. yesterday, a san francisco safeway shopper called police after seeing the two he recognized from a cable tv show.

>> the san francisco police dispatch received a 911 call from a citizen stating that she had observed a male and a juvenile female matching the description of a possible kidnapping murder suspect. >> police were virginia say they are not sure whether brittany went willingly or whether she was kidnapped. police in the east bay are on the hunt for a sexual predator. a man that groped a teenager at a school. this is a police sketch of the man that they say groebped a 15-year-old girl. the suspect is described as a hispanic male, 19 to 21 years old, 5'6", a large tattoo on his right forearm and was wearing a blue rose sear around his neck. a contra costa juvenile

counsel other is busted for possessing more than 13,000 images of child porn. they found a photo of a local boy among those photos. another molestation victim has surfaced. he worked at the contra costa mental health division for several years. they will have to cough up thousands of dollars as the police were accused of roughing up some women. officers stationed near city hall, women say, struck them with batons. they found the officers not guilty of using excessive force. the jury deadlocked in the fourth woman's case. city leaders say the settlement is meant to avoid the expense of a retrial or appeal. oakland police will show members of the media how its officers decide when to use

force. opd says the event will explain police policies and procedures and will also show when force can be used appropriately. our own reporter, cheryl heard, is one of those invited to the seminar this afternoon. she will have a full report for us tonight at 11:00. starting today, east the bay commuters will have another transit link in san francisco. al ame da contra costa transit plans to begin operations at the new trans bay terminal. the temporary terminal is on folsom street between main and booel. treasury secretary, tim geithner, is expected to leave a washington hospital after undergoing surgery to treat a kidney stone. geithner is under rest orders from doctors at george washington university who performed the minor surgery yesterday. he is expected to return to work on monday but he has been forced to cancel appearances on three sunday network news programs,

including our very own "meet the press." power mom, political confident, advocate and wife, today mourners which gather to remember elizabeth edwards and the legacy that touched so many lives. >> reporter: family, friends and the public will say farewell to elizabeth edwards in north carolina at a public funeral service in raleigh today. her oldest daughter, kate, and two close friends will each offer eulogies and then she will be buried in a private ceremony. her parting wish was to be laid to rest next to her son, wade, who died in a car accident when he was just 16. >> my daily prayer is that i have enough faith that i will be one day reunited with him. >> reporter: her final years were full of emotional pain, her fight against cancer and her husband john's infidelity. even though she knew her time on earth was short, she never took pity on herself. >> the one memory of elizabeth

it is 7:16 now. we are looking live. it is all gray now. it is going to be blue skies for much of what you have planned this afternoon but rain down the road. let's take a look at the weekend forecast with jennifer hill. if you want some sunshine, we are going to have a little bit of it. we have had a lot of rain. looks like we are going to have a lot of rain on either side of this little break of sunshine. we call for improving weather. probably see some fog around and sun drizzle north of the bay. by this afternoon, high pressure builds in. air begins to sink. then, we see that. that is some blue sky.

the blue sky should stick around through today and tomorrow and then on monday, back to some clouds and some rainfall. at least we get a little bit of clear weather this weekend. we are going to use a futurecast here. it shows us the clouds and possible rainfall. starting at 9:00 a.m. today and we will see the gray color, some cloud cover. we see a lot of it out here in the pacific and on the coastline in the bay as well. put this in motion just like we saw in the forecast. by 3:00, we began to see clear skies. we don't see any rain in the forecast for this afternoon. maybe some coastal fog and some of that coming over by this evening. all and all, it is nice to see some clearer skies. overnight, we will see fog beginning to form in the inland valleys that could be thick. be aware of that for sunday morning. some dense fog is possible. 12:00 tomorrow, lunchtime, a little bit of an offshore flow. that should make the area beaches come a little bit clear out of the clouds.
