program. our correspondent eva mendes. >> welcome to the streets of san francisco. proud of dedicating the transition and development of the bay area music. founded in 1994 due to the california state reductions on art and music programs, local artists and activists created this organization for inner-city schools. low-income minorities and immigrant families to access the arts at no cost. here to speak more, is the executive director. tell us more about this organization because it's not just about dance and music it's a self-esteem builder with unique mentors. >> no, yes, definitely. so the organization started about 15 years ago and it started with community artists and community activists so from the beginning, there's very family-oriented energy in the group. and like you said, people think,

oh, dance troupe. we're so much more than that. uing the performing arts as a tool to help issues like self-esteem, young people who may not have the best support at home or maybe they don'tlich at ho home, maybe they're in a space in their life where they're trying something negative than positive. come to the organization through the journey through the acting, painting, performing, they gaining the skills this they don't know that they're gaining. for example, you'll perform a theater piece, you might write a script, a scene, you might develop characters with the drumming. you might learn and come to a point of your life where you are teaching. >> reporter: has empowered and educated over 6,000 youths and families and continue to make a difference through music and dance. >> as an individual what has it done for you?

>> it made me feel more proud of myself. >> it really tries to incorporate the art within each student. me, personally, i'm a dancer, so, yeah, i mostly do the dancing. i could drum. >> nothing wrong with that. >> yeah. >> so you're a good dancer obviously and dancing since how old. >> i was about 5 years old when i started with them. my older family members, like my mom and my dad and like their cousins and stuff were also in loco loco. and for a little bit i took a break but then came back because it's just an extra good organization that my friends are here. >> the way that we survive is two ways is that we're hustling out there, trying to get our community to donate whatever they can, businesses and sometimes it doesn't go through

and we have to downsize so we that means is not enough cost for the young people. cannot offer all of the services that we potentially can offer. our services are free. so that means we don't make any money off of the classes that we teach. so we have to go out there and fund-raise to pay for the teachers, the equipment, and all of that. >> not only let us hang out here but they also offer help. if you have any problems you could just go to the office and talk to them. because they're like, oh, hey, i have a problem, what's up, you know? or even just to hang out. a lot of us even hang outside of loco loco so it's just really fun to be a part of it. >> people most of the time either walk into a space where they see loco loco and ask for the information because it's free and accessible everybody and here is the application form and it's that simple. >> and even classes for adults. you don't need to have rhythm or prior experience playing for the

the name is armando. a comedian out of l.a. he's been on this program once before. he sent me a dvd of his work and he want mead to share that with you right here on "comunidad del valle." >> i'm exterminator, pest control operator, my official title. let's see. got everything that i need. the difference usually with working in the more affluent area from my part of town is the -- difference. for one thing if you're working in beverly hills.

they'll call them water bugs. if you have that same roach in east l.a. that's not a water bug, that's a roach. [ bleep ] [ speaking spanish ] peanut butter. it gets them every time. good stuff. i get some too. ahh. yeah you have to be careful setting these things because -- okay. it's looks like we've got one there at bottom there. right away, you can kind see them on the ground there. i've been married with my wife of 20 -- 29 years, it'll be 29 years. got three kids. some of them back here. i'm basically being introduced to the godchildren in their 20s and most got to meet when they were infants.
