city. the windshield gets much cooler. give yourself extra time to get the frost off the windshield and we'll get cooler at sunrise that happens at about 7:22. we will talk about a new year's storm coming up. back to you. >> developing news we are following newscast east bay where a woman was shot near the san leandro border. marla tellez is live where both san leandro and oakland police are investigating at the scene. this all started with a police pursuit. >> that's right. we are right on the border of oakland and san leandro on bancroft and durant. we will step out of the way. because it's on the border that, is posing a twist in the deadly officer-involved shooting. our photographer is zooming into this four-door oldsmobile and this is also involved.

we will explain in a moment. oakless police said this happened before 10:30, about 10:25. it started in san leandro as a police chase involving a jaguar. the chase ended up crossing the border into oakland last night and that's where the officer-involved shooting took place at the corner of bancroft and durant. the jaguar in the police chase ended up smashing into the back of the oldsmobile that we are showing you. that's exactly why because it's in oakland that oakland police stepped in. one woman is dead. we have heard that one man is hurt, but that is not confirmed. one woman is dead in this officer-involved shooting. i need to mention that it was san le apd row police who fired the shots. oakland police are investigating this shooting here in oakland

this morning. reporting live and working to get new information in oakland. today in the bay. we will check back with you. 5:01 right now. a community meeting will be held to talk about the shooting in the bayview district. the chief is expected to lead the meeting. this was at a home on bacon street. inside that home, officers found a man with a knife. they opened fire when the man refused to drop his weapon and began walking towards them. the meeting will start at 6:00 at the grace lutheran church. san francisco police are also offering a $25,000 reward for information about a drive by shooting that killed three and wounded three others. the police department et set up a tip line to catch the shooters. it happened december 22nd at lyndon avenue. three men in a dark chevy opened

fire and swed off. the victims were between 15 and 20 years old. we are also following in another developing story out of oakland. a scary or dell for several people caught in an apartment fire overnight. we understand some of them jumped from the window to try to escape? >> that's right. when firefighters got here, they say this fire was moving out of an upper unit. four people could be trapped in another unit. they fought back the names and inside they found three people down, two adults and a female child. several ambulances called to the scene and crews hoping to work on the victims. three were taken to highland hospital and the women taken to

eden. the three that were down are in very critical condition. this started at about 2:00 in the morning. a neighbor was sleeping down stairs and she barely escaped. >> i got scared. i see the fire coming up from up stairs and i got in and i woke up my kids and said the apartment is on fire. you get scared. we got out. i got my kids and went out. >> she and her family are going to get help this morning from the red cross with a place to stay. we asked the battalion chief if perhaps christmas lights or a space heater could be to blame. it is so cold here. she said that's something they will be looking into, but at this point they still don't have a cause. christie smith, today in the bay. >> frightening ordeal for those folks. thank you for the update.

it's 3 1/2 months since the deadly san bruno explosion and victims may start getting donated money from a city fund. two councilmembers plan to ask the full council to decide to start hanning out checks on january 11th. they are holding almost $400,000 in donations. vehicles tell the examiner they are facing expenses like up front fees for architects that donations can help cover. they would talk about how they would like to money distributed. >> a majoror thoroughfare is due for upgrades. almaden expressway will undergo an $8.1 million renovation. it will widen to four lanes to blossom hill road. crews will instale more turn lanes and traffic lights. this morning cliff side apartments in pacificar closer to falling after being pounded

by another storm. rain washed out another chunk of soil from the building's foundation on tuesday. that means 1/3 of that building is hanging over the ocean. it has been empty since winter when residents were evacuated. they were on private property, but the city may have to step in if the owners cannot come up with a solution to safety units. acting governor maldonado is asking the period to declare a major disaster because of severe winter storms. maldonado is asking president obama for funds and help from federal agencies to deal with flooding and mudslides that damaged believes and private. 50 homes are still under evacuation orders in the city of highland. parts of san diego may need help. a sinkhole drove 18 people from their apartment last night. it's partially under the

is still suspect in the terror case. officers say the men plan to storm a copenhagen building and shoot as many people as possible. they house a paper that published cartoons of the prophet mohammed in 2005. jerry brown is coming down hard on uc executives who plan to sue unless pensions are increase. they said they will sue unless they lift a salary cap on what can be considered when deciding on pensions. lifting that would cost $5.5 million a year and $50 million retro active dating back to 2007. he calls them "out of touch." employees are palging for pangzs. they want $350,000 to plant

thousands of trees and shrubs to offset the environmental damage done when the highway was widened in 2000. it would offset the annual emissions created by the widening. the grant application was to a state program designed to mitigate the environmental impact of increased vehicle emissions. west coast fishermen are cracking down on overfishing. the catch share program covered washington, oregon. since limits on how much fish can be fished at a given time. fishermen who go over that have to sell the extra as stock before they are allowed to fish again. more than $12 million will pay for the new program. san francisco is out ahead on the race for americas cup, but not because it's the best city for the job. rhode island will not be ready in time. larry elson is set to choose a

of oakland. three people are dead after an overnight apartment fire. christie smith is live at the scene. she has the latest update and information for us. christie? >> i spoke with an officer from the oakland police department who is keeping people away from this scene. he confirms now that three people are dead as a result of this fire. two adults and a young female child. they were trapped in an apartment overnight. this fire broke out around 1:50 this morning. they were taken to highland hospital. the last word from a battalion chief is they were in very critical condition, about but it didn't look good. this was a fast-moving fire. two women were already outside. they had jumped from a second story window. they had injuries to their legs. they were taken to eden medical center. there four apartment units up

growers and dispensaries is starting to worry neighbors and business owners. men with guns stormed into a home on locust street tuesday and tried to take pot and money. investigators say the home is a marijuana grow house. by the time officers arrived, the suspects were gone and the victims were shaken. he is not happy about the criminal element. >> pot brings money and money brings criminals. criminals want the money and the pot. >> the san jose attack follows a 48 hour blifts robberies and break-ins last week in the city. from december 13th through 15th, places were broken into or robbed. the same group could be connected. >> driver who is get behind the wheel drunk risk getting caught in an embarrassing situation. the arrest could be captured on

video. through sunday, sheriffs deputies will use a small video camera to catch the drivers. five deputies during field sobriety tests. they want to see the drivers's behavior. there will be a number of officers this weekend. it is a maximum enforcement president that means check points will be set up throughout the bay area. if you drink, designate a driver. you can use public transit. maniville extended drivers to help out on you in year's eve. >> the search for a snowboarder missing in the lake tahoe missing is more dire. she has epilepsy. they had to stop using a helicopter because of high wind and low visibility. she disappeared tuesday and last seen in an advanced area of the alpine meadows ski resort along highway 89 between truckee and

tahoe city. she was reported missing about three hours after she disappeared. >> per a holiday turned tragic. a grandmother is killed. the 70-year-old was killed while vacationing in safari west. an enormous oak tree snapped at the base and came crashing down on her tent. she was visiting for alabama. she was on a spreshl trip with her 7-year-old granddaughter. she was reading when the tree fell on 9:00 on tuesday night. she died almost instantly. her granddaughter was not hurt. >> trees can be troublesome like we saw there. like all of the storms we have seen, tree limbs are snapping in the wind and tree roots are giving out. if they topple over, they can crush cars. as we saw, houses.

them often. >> police are trying to get to the bottom of a prehistoric heist in danville. someone stole a metal brontosaurus. it was taken between monday night and tuesday evening. emily was ready to ring in the new year with a silver top hat. over the years, the owner dressed her up for the holidays and had fun. anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the police. a big push to save a school in san pablo. the city works is trying to step up efforts to save lake elementary. they are talking about a funding swap in a san pablo community center. they are encouraging the city to keep the school open. they chose lake as one of eight schools slated for closure because of budget problems. consolidation will lead to a shake-up for students at vallejo high school next year.

while they wrapped up a legislative session and ended this year. the change means that obama's daughters will miss a couple of days of school. usually when you are on vacation the last thing you top the do is hurry back to the real world. one family wanted their vacation to end and it cost big time. after spending five days in orlando, they had to get back home to long island. when their flight had been canceled, they booked a flight to buffalo that left them with the dilemma of how to get home from there. a cabdriver offered to drive the family back to long island. the negotiated price? $900. >> the wind was so much that is blows the snow all over. you couldn't even see. >> i didn't think it was possible to drive during that time. >> they're drove it. turned out to be a 14-hour trip. should have taken half that
