>> good morning, everyone. it is 4:30 and let's get started with an east bay forecast. good morning. >> i think you will be blown away with the temperatures forecasted later today in the east bay. let's talk about what's happening right now. we don't have rain coming down. as i zoom in for you, nothing. you can't pick up precipitation for here. as you head out the front door, especially in the south and the east bay, you have a lot of misting happening out there. heavy low clouds producing the mist throughout this morning. the good news is, visibility is not that bad yet. we have high cirrus clouds preventing the formation of cloud. that could change. we could keep an eye on that. we are at 54 degrees and mild

conditions and 51 degrees and take a look at what we are expected to end up. 67 degrees in fairfield. you cannot beat that. 61 in fremont and 64 for livermore with a lot of sunshine expected this afternoon. we are starting out so warm, i think we will end up rather warm for this time of year. it will be a nice day. back to you. >> let's cut out early and play golf. the first thing we need to do is play. >> the mini put put thing. i'm good at the slurpees. the only bridge with the fog advisory. there is fog and she mentioned that that will be drifting through the area. i have marked fog advisories that i'm giving with this map with the foggy car. on the maze approach to the bay bridge, it's fine. that might be a reason for slowing and fog drifting through the area. clouds around the carquinas and benicia bridges. watch it as you come out of that

slippery north bay. slick roads as well as the san mateo bridge. that fog is hovering around there. the clouds will turn to fog later on in the commute. back to you. >> new this morning, an east bay neighborhood a crime scene. police piece together the details of an overnight shooting. christie smith is live with the developing story. >> happy friday. this is still an active investigation. we got here about 15 minutes ago and so did the van on canterbury avenue. i spoke briefly with a sergeant and he said what happened here is around 7:00 p.m. some family and friends were coming over and this was a routine visit that they did every week when they went to the home. they went inside and found two people deceased inside.

they had been shot. this is two older people, a man and a woman. they immediately called police and ever since then, the entire neighborhood has been cordoned off. at this point they are saying there was no indication of a home invasion. no threat to the neighborhood. they are not exactly sure what happened here, but they tell me they recovered a gun inside of the home. at this point the sergeant who spoke to me said that they are waiting for the coroners to take over and give them more details about the victims here. they haven't been identified at this point. it looks like it's going to be busy for at least a couple more hours according to the sergeant. that's the latest reporting live in livermore, today in the east bay. >> uc berkeley plans to lay off more than 150 workers. some of the workers have been told most will be let go by

june. the jobs will be cut through retirement and voluntary departures. about a fourth have salaries of $100,000 or more, but no faculty positions will be eliminated. the cuts are expected to save the school about $20 million. this time it's not at&t's fault. thousands of customers are dealing with a communications failure that is deliberate. vandals are pulling the plug, one neighborhood at a time. we look at exactly what's going on. >> reporter: at&t said vandalism is easy to find because customers call and report they have no service and when technician check the boxes, they find a lot of this. cut copper wire. >> it was a few days ago and we were without service. >> jeanette is one of hundreds of at&t customer who is experienced a recent

communication blackout. she was out of the loop for three days >> i have a bundle so i had no internet or land line telephone. >> since november someone has broken into dozens of boxes in the east bay. once inside, they are cutting the copper wire connection. >> they are not stealing for financial gain. sheer vapdallism. >> repair costs are mounting, but the company is more concerned about losing home phone service. >> what happens if there was an emergency. this person could be taking away someone's ability to call for help. >> hoping to prevent vandalism and customer inconvenience. damage may be already done. some are reconsidering bundled service. >> i would like to have a land line when my internet is not available or i want to have

cable ability to check news and things like that when my internet is not -- so yeah. it worked together. i did think maybe this bundle thing was not a great idea. >> if you have an idea of who might be cutting the cable, at&t is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. nbc today in the bay. >> a memorial service will be held for the fire captain who died of cancer. 42-year-old captain scott carnivaly died of cancer of the esophagus. a new study said firefighters are at a greater risk of developing certain cancers more so than the general population. the memorial will be on the uss hornet in alameda at 11:00 this morning. bags may be too big to fail, but what about schools. that is the question dozens of teachers posed. with the oakland education

association they want banks like wells fargo like bank of america and chase to prove they are part of the community by helping to repay school debt and giving mortgage debts owed by teachers. they argue teachers should get special treatment and that makes paying a mortgage nerve racking and more difficult. >> calling on them to work with the state to forgive the debt that oakland school district owes so work on progressive taxation so people are not the ones that pay all the bills. also to stop the foreclosures. >> the teacher's association said they hope with a new governor in office, they are going to have more of a priority in the state. >> school leaders want everyone to celebrate all of emeryville invited to a family dance. a way of supporting the growth of city schools and a passage of

a raging flood. this is a woman's house. you see her kitchen table? she is being pulled to safety. this is in brazil. about 70 miles north of rio dejaneiro, she was in the ruins of her brother's house. strong flood waves here. this is just extraordinary. she managed to grab on to a rope thrown by neighbors and pulled ultimately to safety. the flooding started after torrential downpours caused a local river here. she does lose her pants and saves her life. overflowing the banks of the river. absolutely extraordinary video. top that, christina. >> i will. we picked up all of 2/100s of an inch of rain yesterday. with all that moisture hanging around, we have high clouds coming in simultaneously. that is preventing the formation of fog. we have heavy low clouds and still misting and slick road
