today. we will tell you why it will be so warm and how long it will last coming up. first let's find out how traffic is doing. >> you and i have been talking about that and clouds above the deck are hanging out there. from time to time, i have been watching this shot. over the last 15 minutes, i have seen the fog come through and blur the view. click conditions around the bay. keep it in mind. the only remaining one is on the map. the advisory for the fog, but we are leaving that in place and all the bridges, the carquinas and benicia bridges. the slick roadways. back to you. >> thank you very much. it's going to be longer until pg&e turning over records to the utilities commission regarding the deadly explosion in san bruno. in the first meeting, they extended the deadline and that ignited a flair up of its own. marla tellez has more on the explosion site with what happened and what this means.

>> reporter: good morning to you. this is the explosion site, but at this early hour, it's nearly impossible to see anything. there is not a lot to see considering 38 homes were levelled. barricades are up to keep people out away from the explosion site. at issue here is the revelation that pg&e had incorrect documentation of the natural gas pipeline that did explosion back on september 9th. those records are used to set pressure limits in the natural gas pipelines. incorrect documentation can lead to running pipelines above safe pressures. about 10 days ago, the national transportation safety board which is investigating the cause of the blast ordered them to verify records. the puc gave the company a february 1st deadline. pg&e officials said they needed more time. at a meeting last night, the puc extended that deadline to march

15th. they were giving them six more weeks. assemblyman jerry hill whose district includes the site was there where he expressed outrage, blaming the president saying the puc is failing the state's people and residents of san bruno. people died in the blast and as i mentioned, 38 homes were destroyed. by the time pg&e completes their records assuming they do so by the new march 15th deadline, merchandise six months will have passed since that deadly explosion. live in san bruno this morning, marly tellez, today in the bay. >> death tles sent to a state senator may be connected to the shooting of gabrielle giffords in arizona. a staffer said he was questioned by an arizona sheriff's detective on monday. yee received death threats for criticizing sarah palin, but are

not saying if there is a link between that and the arizona shooting. the staffer said yee's office was flooded with graphic images when he tried to uncover the details of palin's speaking engagement. she will not say if they are linked to messages sent to giffords. yee's staff at offices in san francisco, sacramento, san mateo are given safety training. >> police are hoping $25,000 will help them find a murderer. they are looking into information of phillip demarre tino whose body was found in his apartment in san francisco on august 2nd. he was stabbed dozens of times. they have not made any arrests his family hopes people will call in with tips

>> students eat rat poison, thinking it was candy. they found the poison on top of a filing cabinet at martin luther king academy middle school the teacher was in the room at the time. you can see what they look like here. the rat poison is not toxic for humans, but the kids were taken to the hospital as a precaution. it is not clear how the poison ended up in the classroom, however district officials say many schools in the city are dealing with a rat problem students the a local college are warned of possible violence after threatening graffiti was found on a men's room wall. there is a warning on the website and the university sent out e-mails warning them of a threat of violence next tuesday, january 18th. it's a precaution. they are taking the threat seriously. people are being told to call police if they notice anything suspicious on or around the campus. >> san jose hit a record. bankruptcies hit an all time

high in 2010, more than 13,000 people at businesses filed for bankruptcy and court officials think this year could be as bad if not worse. bankruptcies jumped 16% in 2010 and the oakland division that covers alameda and contra costa say the filings are up nearly 20% from 2009. >> san jose ranks number one in the country in rental pricing with rents possibly going up 10% this year. this would put tremendous pressure on this family in san jose. a 10% increase is an extra $1,000 more for the year. they told their children to expect to make sacrifices. >> you guys want something, unfortunately they say no because we don't have the money. i know you guys are going to be sad, but it's how things are right now. >> antioch has the cheapest

>> want to get things started with a look at the forecast. foggy in parts out there. >> foggy in parts, but it's friday. can we all just appreciate that for a moment. good morning to you. it's friday and i have good news if you are waking up in the north bay. other than the dense fog we are dealing with this morning, we are talking about temperatures ending up in the upper 60s. right now we are starting at degrees in san jose and hayward. by 11:00 a.m., temperatures in the 60s. 63 degrees in fairfield and ending up in the upper 60s today. we will talk about why and how long this is going to last, coming up. back to you. >> thanks a lot. >> new this morning, an east bay neighborhood is a crime scene. police are working to piece together the details of an overnight shooting. christie smith has the

developing details for us. >> good morning. we spoke with livermore police and they are working with alameda coroner's office to piece together what happened. here's what they know. family friends came to visit last night around 7:30, a routine thing they did this every week they arrived and found something out of place the door was not only unlocked, but open. inside, an awful scene. their friends, an older couple, a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds they backed out and called livermore police the victims have not been identified this morning. the block here in southwest livermore was taped off for hours no one knew what was going on. police do tell us a few key things they did recover a gun from inside the home. neighbors didn't hear any gunfire or fighting going on in the home and it appears that this was not a home invasion.

in fact police say valuables were inside the home and investigators took expensive items out of the home to be safe. they do not suspect foul play, but they are treating it as a suspicious death. live in livermore, christie smith today in the bay thank you very much. thing things are back to normal at san jose international after a security breech triggered a lockdown. a passenger went back through a restricted area at about 8:00 last night, prompting screeners to evacuate that terminal. these are pictures from inside the airport sent to us last night by one of hundreds of passengers who all had to be rescreened. the 22-year-old was found in cited on a misdemeanor charge of violating airport security check points. >> a memorial service will be held for the fire captain who died of cancer. 42-year-old captain scott died of cancer of the esophagus. no way to know for sure how his

cancer developed, but they find professions are more dangerous. firefighters are at greater risk for developing four types of cancer than the general population. the memorial service will be at the uss hornet at 11:00 this morning. >> the fish company on fisherman's whatever is closed due to health concerns related to a nearby construction project. on december 29th, exxon-mobil began cleaning up sediment in the ocean contaminated by a decades old oil leak next to the headquarters. because of the work, employees had to deal with odors and noxinous fumes they plan to reopen in february

>> little will you get to be with the one you love all the time and you have triplets. i can only imagine what it's like. things are looking good along the bay area coast. we are concerned about the formation of dense fog as we head through the next couple of hours. it's not that big of a deal in the north bay where we see visibility reduced to less than a quarter of a mile. the good news is good visibility in the south bay and along the peninsula. you are going to be headed to the north bay and you want to take it easy. the sun will be back out and high pressure regained control of the forecast and we are starting out so warm. 54 n san jose. 52 in novato and 45 in fairfield. the numbers will bounce up as soon as the sun comes out. we are looking towards the upper 60s in cities. 67 degrees in fairfield with a mixture of sun and clouds. the fog starts to lift and partly cloudy skies for the first half of the day and clearing for the second left with hazy conditions as we have

gabrielle giffords learned she was holding an event in tucson. his funeral mass will be held at the same church where christina taylor green was mourned. gabrielle giffords is making great progress. >> this is a major leap forward and a major milestone. >> start exercising her muscles and getting stimulus to the brain. >> doctors confirmed giffords moved both arms and legs now and today they may begin physical therapy, including sitting in a chair. >> michelle obama is turning the tucson shooting into a teaching moment. she is ending an open letter to american parents urging them to teach kids to support each other in times of crisis. tracy pots is live in washington, d.c. with more on this. it's kind of interesting to see mrs. obama getting involved this kind of way. >> it is. it's an interesting for the

so-called mom in chief. it's what you see in this letter. we saw it posted on the white house blog last night. she talks about being saddened and heartbroken over what happened and trying to explain it to her own children, saying sasha and malia have questions that she cannot answer. she is urging parents to use this tragedy as a teachable moment for your kids. to talk to them about things like character and values and hope about how communities do support each other and the people who serve our country. you can see that she was visibly shaken and tearful at times during the memorial service, saying she was deeply moved by meeting the families. in this letter she talks about the victims, saying she's are stories that you should share with your kids the 9-year-old girl who was killed was interested in politics and wanted to learn more about it. the great grandmother.
