let me talk about what the administration has done so far. the president keeps talking about a quick transition of as power to start.. is this so far going the way thm white house has hoped?strati >> i don't think so. first of all,lier i lester, thet not been a consistent message coming from the administration. there was earlier in the transr the president saying mubarak must step hdown, the transitio must begin now. the press secretary saying now means yesterday. he we hear over the weekend from frankwell, whisner, he was the diplomat to tell him he wouldn't run again. now he's saying, well, mubarak should stay only to have those . comments dismissed by secretary of statepa hillary ce?clinton. so it's clear the administration is trying to push mubarak out, a but atk what pace? be there are some issues to work tp out edhere. they don't want a vacuum. mubarak has said himself it would be chaotic if he stepped down right away, and yet the opposition sabrothers, includint

they are coming out of the deep freeze here. all that snow, ice, canceled flights, that is so last week. this is game day. and they spent the last 24 hours trying to remove all traces of that arctic blast. above the largest dome stadium in the world, they tried everything to remove the ice. workers wheeleding axes to firefighters trying to hose it off. even going down the side to get a better shot at it. anything to get rid of it ahead to have night's game. one, two, three -- with temperatures warming, visitors are venturing out. >> i've never seen anything like it. >> steelers fans james and paul dwra ferry finally reached cowboys stadium but friends are still stuck. >> three from las vegas. i think they're on their way. and four are still in pittsburgh. they're still having difficulty. >> reporter: it wasn't any easier on the roads. these fans learned the hard way. >> a lot of snow, ice, a lot of vehicles in the ditch.

good sunday morning to you. boy, take a look at that camera bouncing high atop san bruno mountain. we see the bay bridge and it is shaky. we'll get to your weather forecast in just a moment with rob mayeda. i'm kris sanchez. thanks for joining us. taking a look at some of the stories we are getting ready for your 7:00 newscast for you, the word that the iranian government is starring the trial of three americans accused of spying. the attorney says his clients are innocent. if convicted, they could be sentenced to death. the three hikers were arrested back in 2009 when they crossed

into the iranian border, they say while they were hiking. shourd was released on bail last year and was not present at the trial. no observers, not even from the swiss government, which usually represents our interests in iran, were allowed. the egyptian government the talking with its biggest opposition group about ending the political crisis. protesters are still in the streets shouting for president hosni mubarak to leave office. many officials from his own party have resigned, including his own son. the 82-year-old president says he is trying to lead a peaceful transition to a new government. more than 3,000 pounds of beef from the american food service company are being recalled over concerns over e. coli. most of the meat was served at southern california restaurants, but just in case, here they are. ground beef pattys, beef taco meat and ground beef used in chili. there is concern that some of the meat could still be in freezers at restaurants across california. okay.

building perched above the turbulent square, trapped for days and fending off mobs at her door front until a rescue came yesterday during a low in the fighting. what can you tell us about how you got out of your apartment? >> i would rather not go into that just in case some reprecushions become a problem. sorry. >> mary, i'm with nbc news. >> an nbc news producer caught up with her at the cairo airport where she told me by telephone about her walk to freedom. >> i got to the foyer. there were guys all over the floor sleeping. and there were rocks and a portion of the street was quite littered all the way as can you see. there was garbage and a lot of rocks. there were barricades all over the place. >> saturday, she spoke to worried family members back home who briefly lost track of her

overnight. her rescuer dropped her at the airport. >> ways in bad shape by the time i got to the airport. in order to get there, several time i had to stop and sit -- instead of steps or hurt and rest before i could take any more steps. >> saturday, in the care of embassy officials, mary was put on an evacuation flight and late last night she arrived in europe on the first leg of her journey back to the u.s. but before she left, i had to know -- mary, did you bring your rolling pin with you? >> my son told me to. i did not have room. i only brought one carry on. that's all i have. >> well, the tsa would have taken the rolling pin away. but it's great she's on her way back to new york. you know what is so frustrating?

from where we were in cairo, we could see her building. we just couldn't reach her because of the violence. thursday was a horrible day. there was all kinds of fighting going on. in the evening, it stopped. somebody flipped a switch. i remember thinking maybe this is the time she can get out and it was a few hours later as she made it out of her apartment. >> i grew up in haiti. there were political problems there. there is a sense of helplessness when you're stuck alone in another country. it is a frightening thing. she was all by herself. it is such a wonderful story and the way it ended. >> she was critical during the week which wh still stuck in there about the american embassy. she was full of praise yesterday. they embraced her at the airport and got her on her way. she was very happy with the way. >> lindsay lohan, is she headed to jail for allegedly stealing a necklace? could should be headed behind bars? we'll find out. - [ carl ] honey, where's the -- top shelf! life can get a bit... routine. that's why i decided to switch things up

this morning lindsay lohan is a free morning but that may change tomorrow morning. she is reportedly facing charges she stole jewelry. and those charges could land her back in jail. nbc's kristen welker reports. >> reporter: this is the necklace that may have landed lindsay lohan in her latest evil mess. the website tmz is reporting that the 24-year-old will be charged as early as monday for allegedly stealing the $2500 piece. lohan's attorney fired back releasing a statement, we vehemently deny these allegations and if charges are filed, we will fight them in court, not in the press. the los angeles county district attorney's office also responded, the case remains under review. if and when we make a decision, we will let everyone know. >> a lot of people in the industry are kind of fed up with this roller coaster ride. >> reporter: the flack started on january 22nd when the one of a kind necklace disappeared from this jewelry store near lohan's

necklace. could she have really borrowed it and forgot to give it back? >> it could -- yes, absolutely. it could have happened. but it doesn't look good. because the store is not saying anything about working with a stylist. they seem to believe very strongly that she is the only person involved. >> if she's charged, susan, what does this mean for her probation? >> a new arrest is it an automatic violation of her probation. she owns six months on that. she'll go to prison for that. the judge says any violation of probation lands you back in jail. plus, she faces time on the new arrest which is up to three years in state prison. >> so this is looking like this could be jail time. >> not could be, it will be jail time. this will land her back in jail if arrested. because when you're on probation, that's basically jail at home. >> so she's recently out of rehab. how has she been acting? >> for lindsey, she has appeared to turn over a new leaf. she's not been out clubbing which is great. she has been going to her court

mandated alcohol rehab sessions. and so she was looking good until this happened. >> she has been out clubbing and allegedly just flunked a drug test. that was in the news a few days ago. >> and we're still talking about her image and we're all worried about her image and how many pegs does this knock her down for whatever image she was in the process of trying to rebuild. >> well, she doesn't seem to still take this seriously. i don't know why she's not concerned about her image. she was out at a fancy event on friday night looking beautiful. she seems to be more concerned about that than about the fact that she can't get hired because nobody knows if she's going to go to jail. how can you hire her? >> susan, she can't use her addiction as a defense, can she? >> addiction isn't a defense. the judge has already given her five shots at rehab. she has already been in prison three times. no. addiction is a disease but it's not a defense.
