village, it's an on-campus massive housing complex, a mix of apartments, homes, duplexes. the assault took place inside an apartment unit. it was a graduate student asleep around 9:30 saturday night. she woke up to something horrifying, a man trying to sexually assault her. it's an attempted sexual assault. when she screamed, he fled. that was the extent of what happened. she was not physically hurt. they still don't know how he was able to break into her apartment. as i mentioned, he is still out there. the description is somewhat vague. he's about 5'6", perhaps around 30 years old. possibly dark skinned. they are still trying to find this man. the university did send out a text and e-mail alerts to

students, sunday afternoon to let them know so they could be aware. police are reminding students on campus, if you live in a housing complex not to let anyone follow you inside to the general building itself. of course, you want to keep your windows and doors locked. reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. no change in the condition of a giants fan, brian stow. he was in the hospital suffering from brain trauma. the dodgers and giants are pitching in. the dodgers will hold a fund-raiser today for stow's family. today is brian stow day at at&t park as the dodgers and giants begin a new series in san francisco. there will be a fund-raiser for the events as well. he was attacked by two men last week outside of dodgers stadium. the game between the san francisco giants and the l.a. dodgers could have world series

level security. a spokesperson disputes that report but says there will be security. there is concern of payback on dodger fans after the beating of giants fan brian stow last week. messages on sight o encouraging retaliation. giants fans welcome the extra security and hope it diffuses the situation. >> i'm sure there will be knuckle heads that show up looking for that. it's sad. >> uniformed officers will be inside and outside. they are monitoring social network sites. the coast guard is warning of rough seas after a boat capsized this weekend sending two men into the water. he's still missing. he's a 52-year-old man. the coast guard called off an extensive search after miles of open water yesterday. the man was wearing a live jacket. that was found washed ashore.

his 53-year-old companion who has a life ring was rescued bay kite surfer who held him above the water until they could get there. it is 5:04 now. autopsies will be performed to determine how a couple died over the weekend. they were found in their home saturday. they were both in their 50s. mercury news reports they filed for divorce three months ago. the sheriff's department ruled out the possibility that a third party is involved in the deaths. deliberations will resume this morning. it appears the jury wants to rehear a key piece of testimony. marla is live this morning. >> reporter: good morning. before breaking for the weekend, the jury requested on friday to hear, once again, testimony from a key prosecution witness. the judge granted that request.

today begins with a read back of the testimony from cathy hoskins. she's a long-time friend and personal shopper of bonds. she testified she saw his personal trainer, greg anderson, inject bonds in the stomach with performance enhancing drugs in 2002. she's the only person with eyewitness testimony. the jury will reconvene for deliberations but will not be able to take the transcript with them behind closed doors. the judge released greg anderson from jail. he spent 17 days locked up in a federal prison in dublin. bonds is facing three counts of perjury. it's tied to the testimony he gave back in 2003 when he said

he never knowingly used a steroid. the question here is if he lied to the federal grand jury. court resumes here at 8:30 this morning. live in san francisco. san jose could move forward to slam pot clubs. the idea to pair down the number of clubs operating within the city from 110 to just ten. it's part of the efforts to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries. charging an application fee and auctioning licenses off on ebay is a good way to raise money for the city. it will encourage the wrong people to apply for licenses. instead, they are looking for a merit based application system. mother nature rocked a moment of silence in japan.

the country pauses for the one-month anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that killed 25,000 people. a moment of silence was held at 2:46 in the afternoon, japan time, the exact moment of the magnitude nine quake. thousands of bodies have yet to be found. however, during the moment of silence, a 6.6 quake, an aftershock hit shaking buildings. it was initially reported at a 7.1 and a tsunami warning was iss issued. that was quickly lifted after an hour. no reports on damage or injury. they keep having the aftershocks. >> how do you recover? it's a tough, tough situation there. good things to come from the weather forecast, right christina? >> yes, we will have spring in the bay area. it's going to feel nice. it's chilly out there. protect your arms with a jacket. we have a few showers as well.

good morning, everybody. a live look outside. the shark tank, san jose, the playoffs begin on thursday. sharks host the los angeles kings in round one. many dog lovers will rally at san francisco city hall today. they are opposing the recreation area plan to restrict or ban dogs from bay area parks. some of the parks welcomed dogs for more than 40 years. the rally kicks off at noon on the steps of city hall. nissan's new electric car may not be worth it. nicole is live with what is wrong with the leaf and the rest

"the new york times" says the pay of ceos rose. profits jumped 30%. the highest paid is paid $84.5 million. they said much was tied to long-term stock rewards. he's been followed by ray of occidental petroleum who took home 67 million bucks. here is what you are curious about. nissan and their electric car. the leaf sometimes won't start. they are looking into the cause. it may be the air-conditioning unit. they will not issue a recall for now. if it's the ac unit, it's not safety related. we'll watch. >> never mind the fact your car can you not work. that's all right.

service reductions that cal train is hoping to avoid as they struggle with a budget deficit. they put off a vote on service changes after scraping together enough to avoid drastic cuts. they are trying to find $3.5 million to keep operating as usual for commuters. wednesday, we will get an update on whether they have found what they need to to keep commuters smiling and the trains moving. >> it's light at the golden great bridge. where is everyone, mike? >> they are hope watching us. good stuff. well done, folks. there will be more folks on highway 4. it's the worst bay area commute. we talked about that. we have a smooth flow off the antioch bridge. the real mccoy is closed because of a problem with the service pumps. highway 4 is looking all right.

toward 680, we are looking at the bridges. southbound for 680. no problems through martinez. we are holding up a little bit better than that speed limit. it's still an 18-minute drive with a live look out there, showing you what things are like. picking up as far as the volume go. it's an easy build here. 6:30 is when the bulk of the traffic starts. that's when they will turn on the metering lights as well. commute directions and continuing up the peninsula. it's not even 5:30. back to you guys. passengers with suspected ties to terrorist groups were prevented from boarding flights last year. new screening techniques was the main reason for more people denied access to flights.

today, they will deliberate until 3:30 this afternoon. if a verdict comes down, we will bring it to you right away. the jury of eight men and four men. they are deciding if bonds lied in 2003 when he said he never knowingly used steroids. live in san francisco, marla, today in the bay. >> thank you. it is 5:32. the high school district faces tough questions as officials try to figure out how dozens of students got their hands on drugs and alcohol during a school sponsored trip. the district says 50 sir francis drake high school students went along. 28 of them sophomores. it's the district standard policy. four chaperones made the trip with them. they want to know why there

weren't five as required. an autopsy could determine how two teenage boys died while scuba diving over the weekend. 17-year-old stephen and 16-year-old were football players in nevada about 30 miles south of reno. they were on a school trip and among 19 students scuba diving. everybody came to the surface but the boys were missing. 45 minutes later, they were found in the bottom of the bay. they were brought back to the surface. however, emergency crews say they were in cardiac arrest and later died. >> i will never meet two guys like them. they were extraordinary. nicest guys. just kind hearted. you don't find very many of them. >> it's going to hit hard most when i'm sitting in class and he's supposed to be next to me and he's not there. >> tough time for those

students, for sure. they say the boys were in an oceanography class. this is an annual trip that involves several dives. the entire incident is under investigation. now that cal baseball has been saved, attention is turning to the men's gymnastics team. they were told they needed $4 million over eight years to stay afloat. fund-raisers say they are half way there at $2 million. they will compete in the national championships this week. they are ranked number three. they hope a strong showing will bring in more support. last september, the athletic director announced five teams would be cut because of budget issues. fund raising saved four teams. now, they hope to save gymnastics. >> they are singing the highway for blues. westbound highway is the bay

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, everyone. one down, two to go when it comes to your tax money here in washington. we dealt with the 2011 budget that narrowly diverted a shutdown. it will get a vote midweek. now they have two other money issues. one, next year's budget already on the table. republicans are talking major changes to medicare. democrats fear that tax rates for the rich will have a disproportionate affect on the middle class. that comes up for discussion thursday or friday on the house floor. the big issue they have to deal with is the national debt. it's about to hit its limit. it's the e vif lent of maxing out a credit card and asking for more credit. republicans say no more credit until we make big spending cuts in this country. things like social security, medicare, medicaid. the biggest parts of the budget and the most unpopular to cut.

wednesday, president obama is going to lay out his deficit reduction plan. republicans already talking about major cuts questions whether or not what he proposes will be enough. reporting live from capitol hill, i'm tracie potts for today in the bay. >> it is 5:41 now. the top pediatrician for abused and neglected children has been fired after he was accused of sexually molesting a child in his care. he was fired four weeks ago. he's not been charged with the crime. he's been investigated twice before for sexual molestation. he was placed on paid administrative leave. he was fired after the district attorney put it on the brady's list. they have substantial evidence of wrong doing and in a position of authority. he denies any wrong doing. interim san francisco mayor ed lee wants his old job back as

city administrator but it may not be easy to do. they are prohibited from appointed full-time city jobs for one year after leaving their elected post. the ethics committee will look into changing the rule. four out of five commissioners have to support the change. otherwise, he goes to the voters when he's done being mayor to fill in the void. he would like to go back to his old job and may not be able to. >> what's happening weather wise? are we dry for awhile? >> a couple days. make the outdoor plans today and tomorrow. wednesday you won't be able to do so. the rain will lay down the particulate levels making you sneeze. as you can see, showers coming down in the northern most portion of the state. we are sandwiched between a system here.

>> reporter: hi, good morning, brent. that's right. there's going to be donations here at dodgers stadium. there's going to be a fund-raiser and people have the opportunity to drive through and give money to his family for medical bills and his two children. you are talking about the game. we are talking baseball and sports. the tone is going to be a lot more serious. perhaps it will be reflective of the fact there's going to be more security. this is who we are talking ability. this is a name we have heard quite a bit about over the last two weeks. brian stow. we were looking at a few things on craig's list. we found disturbing messages about retaliation, one of them asking for people to go ahead and beat the people who beat brian stow, asking for a quote unquote murder of the men who beat stow. stow remains in critical condition. the giants will honor him tonight during the game.
