developing news from japan overnight. a strong 6.6 magnitude quake shook the country overnight. the epicenter was 100 miles north of tokyo and 40 miles south of the plant. the operator said the quake had no impact but it triggered a tsunami warning. officials called that off an hour later. it was actually one month ago today that the 9.0 magnitude quake and tsunami hit japan. it's believed the disaster killed 25,000 people. the jury in the barry bonds case gets back to work this morning. they want a closer look at something bonds personal shopper said in testimony. marla is live outside the courthouse. >> reporter: good morning. it was three weeks ago today the barry bonds trial began. today is day two of jury deliberations. here is where they left on friday before they broke for the weekend.

they requested, from the judge, to hear, once again, testimony from a key witness for the prosecution. the judge granted that request. the jury has a keen interest in kathy hoskins testimony. today will begin with a readback of her testimony. the former long-time friend of bonds and personal shopper is the only person with eyewitness testimony to an injection during the trial. she testified she saw bonds get injected with steroids in 2002 by greg anderson. once the tran skipt is read, the jury will reconvene. they will not be allowed to take the transcript with them behind closed doors. the judge released greg anderson from federal prison. he was sent to prison after refusing to testify. he spent 17 days locked up this

time around. it's tied to the grand jury testimony he gave in 2003 when he said he never knowingly used steroids. if the jury does not come back with a verdict, it will deliberate until 3:30 this afternoon. if they do reach a verdict, we'll bring that to you right away. >> thanks a lot. it is 6:04 now. is suspect is behind bars after killing a man outside a fast food restaurant in concord. officers arrived yesterday afternoon and found a 19-year-old man suffering from at least one stab wound. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later. police arrested the suspect at the scene after witnesses identified him. they are trying to figure out a motive for the crime. this is concord's first murder of the year. a 52-year-old man is missing

this morning after his boat capsized near ocean beach over the wooekd weekend. the coast guard called off the search yesterday. the victim was wearing a life jacket. however they found the jacket washed ashore. there was a 53-year-old man on board. he was able to grab a life ring and a kite surfer found him and held him above water until the cost guard got there. we have an update on the attack of a university grad student. bob redell joins us live with the latest. bob. >> reporter: good morning to you. the attack took place in escondido village. it's an on-campus housing complex. it's housing on the university. around 9:30 saturday evening, this graduate student, a woman asleep in her apartment, she awoke to find a man trying to

sexually assault her. she screamed. this man fled. that was the end of it. she was not physically hurt. she was able to give somewhat of a description to police. about 5'6", dark skinned and possibly around 30 years old. police have not been able to find this man as of yet. it's not clear how he was able to gain access into her room whether he broke in or perhaps might have left the dorm locked. that part is not clear. what happened yesterday is the campus sent out e-mail and text alerts to all students on campus to let them know what happened to remind them, to be aware you want to have your windows and doors locked. we are not saying this student didn't do that. if you live in a building, a dormitory, let's say, be careful you don't let anyone follow you in. close the door behind you when you are entering the building.

this is not the first time a stanford university student has awoken to a man in their room. april 2nd, a saturday, the start of a month, a woman woke up to find a man in her room. it's not clear whether he was trying to attack or not. apparently, four other men were waiting outside. police are not saying whether or not the incidents are connected. reporting live at stanford university, bob redell at today in the bay. >> thank you. a couple died over the weekend. santa clara deputies went to their home saturday afternoon. neighbors say they were found dead. they were both in their 50s. a neighbor says they moved in about 15 years ago. news reports they filed for divorce about three months ago. the sheriff's department says it ruled out the possibility that a third party was involved in

their death. >> it is 6:07 now. this week, san jose could move forward with a plan to slash the pot clubs in the city by auctioning off permits on ebay. the idea would cut down the number of clubs from 110 to just 10. mayor chuck reed says charging an application fee is a good way to raise money for the city. opponents say it will encourage the wrong people to apply for licenses. they are calling for a merit based permit application system. dog lovers get a rally today. they oppose plans by the recreational to restrict or ban dogs from parks. they have welcomed dogs for 40 years. it's about to change. the rally kicks off at noon today on the steps of city hall. >> time to check the forecast now. it's a good day to get out and

the dodgers will have their own fund-raiser at dodgers stadium for stow today. andy from our nbc station in los angeles is joining us live with a look at what the dodgers are going to do in l.a. >> reporter: good morning from los angeles. that's right. in about an hour, people are going to come here to dodgers stadium to donate money to brian stow and his family. the medical bills have been adding up. he remains in critical condition this morning. we talk about the giants. we talk about the dodgers. the first thing that comes to mind is rivalry. that's what makes the games so great. tonight, the tone is going to be far more serious and perhaps a little more dangerous tone there. i use the term danger because of the recent -- you know, craigslist people go on and post different things and their thoughts. there's certain posts from

giants fans asking for retaliation from the beating of brian stow on opening day here at dodgers stadium. another message posted calling for the murder of the men who beat stow. he remains in critical condition. the giants will honor him during tonight's game. they will collect donations from the paramedic and father of two. tonight, an increase in security. a lot more under cover officers and bike patrols. here in los angeles, starting at 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., people have the opportunity to donate money to brian stow and his family for the high medical bills. we are live here at dodgers stadium. back to you two in studio. >> thanks a lot. security will be tied at at&t park tonight. a spokesperson says there will be security equivalent to a postseason game. there's concern on payback on dodgers fans.

delays, which is good. back to you. >> here is tough new this is morning. gas prices closing in on an all-time high. right now, the national average for regular gas, $3.76 a gallon. the average was $3.57 three weeks ago. all-time high? $4.11. here in the bay area, we are above that. we know that. average is $4.13 a gallon. the largest temple in the country is now open in san jose. it was founded in 1984. it recently went through a $32 million expansion making the 40-acre campus the largest and most expensive in the country. mayor chuck reid was on hand for the opening. they have a prayer hall that holds up to 1500 worshippers, a

kitchen and apartments for priests and visitors. congress wants to strike down net neutrality rules. rule that is are more important after developments this morning right scott? >> yeah. an internet provider is buying a networking company. the deal won't affect you at home but it raises more concern that the power to desize what data goes where is consolidating. they are so worried about this, it created a set of rules. you called this net neutrality. the house on friday passed a measure undoing the rules though the senate has yet to take up the matter. complicated net neutrality. a bunny chaser here. lots of people went to see "hop" over the weekend. it's made by universal which own this is tv station.

we sense there's an increased volume of traffic today. the metering lights were turned on. there's a live look at the toll plaza. past the 880, the metering lights turn on earlier. you may have longer to wait by the time you get there. back to you. >> developing news out of japan this morning. a 6.6 aftershock rocked the northeast part of the country overnight. it was 100 miles north of tokyo and 40 miles south of the damaged nuclear plant. the operator of the plant says there was no damage there. it triggered a tsunami warning but it was called off an hour later. it hit during a moment of silence to mark one month since the 9.0 quake and tsunami. 25,000 people have died. >> 6:31 now. people living near stanford university are being careful after a graduate student was attacked. bob redell joins us live with more.

bob. >> reporter: this is the second time this month a woman, a student at stanford university awoken to a strange man in her room. the most recent taking place this saturday night at escondido village saturday night. this is a large housing complex on the campus. it's a combination of homes and apartments. it was around 9:30. this student was asleep in her apartment when she awoke to a man trying to sexually assault her. she screamed. he fled. unfortunately, he has not been seen since. she was able to give a generic description saying 5'6", dark skinned and around 30 years old. police are looking for the man. she was not physically hurt, by the way. it's not clear whether he broke in or she left the door unlocked. that part is not clear.

an autopsy may determine how two teenage boys died while scuba diving. they were football players at carson high school in nevada 30 miles south of reno. they were on a school field trip and among 19 students scuba diving saturday morning. 11:30, everybody came to the surface. the group noticed the boys were missing. 45 minutes later, they were found at the bottom of the bay. they were brought back to surface. they were in cardiac arrest and later died. >> i'll never meet two guys like them. they were extraordinary. nicest guys, just kind hearted. you don't find very many of them. >> it's going to hit hard when i'm sitting in class and he's supposed to be next to me and he's not there. >> the superintendent says the boys were on an oceanography class and this is an annual trip to the bay that involves several

she saw bonds get injected with performance enhancing drugs in 2002 by the former personal trainer, greg anderson. once the transcript is read, the jury will reconvene. another development, the judge released greg anderson from prison. he was being held in the federal prison in dublin. he was sent there march 22nd after refusing to testify. this time around, he spent 17 days locked up. bonds is facing three counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. he said he never knowingly used steroids. the jury of eight women and four men must decide whether or not he lied to the federal grand jury hen he said he never knowingly used steroids. court gets under way at 8:30 this morning. live in san francisco, marla,

new fights loom in washington after congress barely avoided a government shutdown over the federal budget. tracie potts is live in washington with a look at the choices the president and congress now face. good morning. >> reporter: laura, good morning. good morning, everyone. one down and two to go in washington. when it comes to your tax money, they narrowly avoided a government shutdown.

that vote on this year's budget, that last minute deal will take place sometime during the middle of the week. now, they have to deal with next year's budget and the national debt. this is the accumulation of the red ink year after year afterier. it's about to hit a limit. congress has to decide whether to raise the limit to borrow the money to pay bills. republicans are saying no compromise this time. no raising the limit without serious budget cutting. we are talking medicare, medicaid, social security that make up big chunks of budget. it's very unpopular when talking cuts in the budget. president obama expected to speak on wednesday about the latest deficit reduction plan. is it enough to get republicans to go along? look for that. the budget vote for this year and later in the week, a budget vote for next year's budget. it's all coming up this week. >> a busy week ahead.

thank you. an applebee's restaurant in michigan is looking into how a toddler was served a margarita instead of apple juice. he drank some and put his head on the table. when he woke up, he was very happy and saying hi and bye to everybody at the table. somebody mislabeled margarita mix as apple juice. he was taken to the hospital but they say he should be fine. almost an identical situation happened in antioch in 2007. staff put a margarita mix in an apple juice container and accidentally served it to a 2-year-old boy there, too. applebee's reimbursed the medical bills. they started a policy of no longer putting apple juice and the alcoholic drinks in similar containers. >> that could be scary. we know san francisco mayor

ed lee wants his old job back as city administrator. it's not as easy as that. there's a city law that prohints a mayor or members of the board for full-time jobs one year from leaving the elected post. they are looking at changing the law. the ethics committee is going to look at it today. four of the five have to look at it today. the other option is to let voters decide. cal baseball has been saved. now the attention is on men's gymnastics. they needed $4 million over eight years to stay afloat. fund-raisers are half way there with $2 million in the bank. they will compete in the national championships this week. they are ranked number three. they hope a strong showing will bring in more support. cal's athletic director announced five teams would have to be cut due to severe budget
