westbound highway 4 seeing speeds at 24 miles per hour in the slowest points. give yourself extra time from antioch to pittsburg if that's where you are headed. >> thank you, monique. we have an update on a string of shootings that happened overnight. this morning, police are still looking for suspects in that. it happened near broadway and third street before 1:00 this morning. christie smith is live on the scene with the latest information. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you. within the last 15 minutes or so, busy broadway reopened at fourth street. it had been shut down since 1:00 this morning. oakland police just left a couple minutes ago. there are family members of the victims still on scene but too distraught to talk to us about this but had to see for themselves.

here is what we know, homicide detectives say before 1:00, a man got out of a car and tried to go into sweet jimmy's bar. he was denied access. he barged in and started shooting killing two men, wounding four other people, including two women. investigators telling us it doesn't look like anyone inside returned fire. right now, investigators are talking to witnesses downtown trying to come up with a suspect description. a very busy night for opd. this shooting plus two others overnight. nonlife-threatening injuries. they heard gunfire erupt around the corner. oakland police asking anyone with any information to give them a call. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. this morning petaluma police

looking for burglars who broke into a jewelry store. it happened at hollinsworth. these are images taken by the store surveillance camera. the mask is falling off the burglar here. they took off in a newer white four-door nissan maxima or altima with tinted windows. we are following the aftermath of a fire that sent people to the hospital and displaced over a dozen overnight. they are looking into if it's arson. damian trujillo is here with an update. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, scott. emergency crews left the scene around 4:15. 15 to 20 people are now looking for a place to stay. the fire broke out after 12:30 this morning. the crews responded quickly. they had it out within 15

minutes. the damage is already done. they took three victims to st. francis with nonlife-threatening injuries. the rest of the people here remain homeless, including five children. the red cross has been here all morning to provide emergency shelter. >> it's terrifying. large flames coming out of the windows. i feel bad for our neighbors that lost their place. >> reporter: investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire, a fire that erupted just after easter. this is a very compact neighborhood. if firefighters have not gotten here quickly, there's the potential to spread very quickly. the victims are giving kudos to the san francisco fire department. the one victim was able to get out with her cat. we are live in san francisco. i'm damian trujillo, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. 6:04 now.

a stunning report finds only a fraction of the city's public safety officers live in the city. the chronicle says a quarter of police officers and a third of firefighters call san francisco home. the rest live in the surrounding bay area and some live as far away as stockton, medesto and lake tahoe. they argue it can be beneficial to have some firefighters living outside the city. in the event of a major earthquake, they are not coping with their own personal losses. alameda's fire chief is firing back to the city with a lawsuit. he's filing $4 million wrongful termination suit. he says he had a deal with the former city manager to use his private cars for work and claims he wasn't told he couldn't fill up the cars on the city's tab.

he believes he was set up with the pictures by the firefighters union because of budget cuts. he was forced to step down one week before his retirement started. san jose police facing allegations of using excessive force and racial profiling. lawsuits have been filed against the department with latino plaintiffs. an officer parked a patrol car on the knee of a man suspected of fighting. in 2008, an officer slammed a man to the ground, hitting his head, causing him to black out. they arrested his sister when complaining he was not resisting arrest.

the san jose unified school district will hold two meetings to discuss the budget. superintendent vincent matthews urge members of the community to attend at least one of the two meetings with uncertainty in the budget. one strategy would be to reduce the school year. the next meeting is held this evening at will glenn middle school. the last one at hoover middle school. thousands of bay area students may be forced to miss classes when school starts in the fall. it's because of a state requirement saying anyone entering seventh grade and up must have proof they received a whooping cough vaccine. if school started today, only 4500 of the 16,000 students would be allowed to attend class. districts are urging parents to get their kids vaccinated soon.

last year, we saw the worst outbreak for years. if you don't get it done right now, the lines and the back up will be tremendous. >> the mcgrew children need to be vaccinated. >> they are going to get shots. this just in kids, you are getting shots. >> any tough guy can take a shot, right scott? we are looking good this morning. showers pushing through the bay area. they are clearing out rapidly. we have seen the most moisture come through and now as high pressure moves in, we are noticing fog developing. take it easy out there. reduce visibility along the bridges and the bay area. here is what we are looking at. the showers extend from santa cruz to san jose. a little bit of action lingering. this is all going to clear out of here before we hit the second half of the day. the temperatures, which are mild, in the 50s, climb into the mid-60s. this is what we are looking at

for today. cool start. a few showers early. by the second half of the day, mostly cloudy conditions. showers clear and by this afternoon, we'll see the sunshine and a warmer trend that kicks into high gear for the next few days. high pressure, big, big strong ridge sets up making for warmer days tuesday through friday. we are talking mid-70s inland. at the coast, low 70s. comfortable beach days especi especially thursday. i have the full forecast coming up. i'm going to breakdown the warmest days of the week in your city. right now, let's get you to work with monique. how are you doing? >> fabulous. crossing my fingers, looking forward to thursday. the commute is picking up. no major hot spot. it's good news. the east shore freeway is 63 miles per hour. westbound 24, no issues there. looking great. little bit of slowing of course through the altamont pass on

it is 6:13, good morning to you on this monday morning. a live look at the golden gate bridge toll plaza shows slick streets out there. b.a.r.t. riders will be on their seats this morning. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning. if you have ridden b.a.r.t. maybe you noticed, maybe you haven't. b.a.r.t. has some of the widest seats in public transportation. the aisles are kind of narrow. maybe you would like narrower seats. this is a decision you can make at the seat lab that we set up

at the transportation building here in downtown oakland. they are trying to get input on how to con figure the trains. b.a.r.t. has the shortest seats. this is the current height. would you like your seats to be higher? seat materials is a big issue for riders. right now, b.a.r.t. has cloth seat but there could be other materials they are introducing. we have the b.a.r.t. president here. i imagine this is the biggest issue with people. it's clean but not as comfortable and as far as input, you are expecting a lot on it. >> this is the big one. this is their biggest thing, the fabric and comfort of the seats. >> reporter: this is a huge trade off. right now, you can't make that decision because -- >> why we can't make that decision, we are getting public input to see if people can tolerate a harder surface that

is easier to clean. there's a lot of underground and tubing, smoke requirements. there's certain materials we wouldn't be able to use. >> reporter: one thing they get to enjoy is a tremendous amount of leg room. if you look here, there's 29 inches of leg room for b.a.r.t. compared to others in the united states. that's quite a lot. but, of course, the question is, woulds they want to give up their leg room and in the process of doing that, why give up leg room? >> so there's more seats in the b.a.r.t. car. >> reporter: it seems like it would be a good advantage for b.a.r.t., for the average rider, do you think they care as much? >> i do. the seat behind us is narrow. if you are trapped here, i think you would be uncomfortable. i think people would like more room, but not to be confined. >> reporter: maybe people are going to go with the most amount of leg room for the least amount

of seats in a car. >> they would on an individual survey. i's how many seats we can fit between the radars. >> reporter: the public will be able to come here at different times to fill out the survey and decide, basically leg room, seat height and seat width as far as to shape the next generation of the b.a.r.t. trains that should be coming online in 2017, 2018, something like that. it's a 13 year project costing b.a.r.t. $3.4 billion. yes. anyone who flew on an airplane knows how important leg room is. i assume this is an issue for riders. >> bob redell with the bottom line this morning. 6:16. one of san francisco's cable car lines will be partially shutdown starting today. the line is under construction but will run from the beginning of the line to jackson and pal streets. transit officials are telling

drivers the change in service may cause delays in the area. some street parking will be unavailable. things should return to normal on friday. a strike could be in store for san francisco's muni drivers. the first round is over for the union. the union represents 2200 operators. the vote was to authorize a strike. the spokesman says it would consider striking if contract negotiations go south. 6:17 now. monday morning. look at the shot behind us. it looks overcast in san francisco. >> it rolled in fast. good morning, christina. >> good morning. we are blowing the fog horn. it is rolling in this morning especially along the peninsula. watch out over the bridges. reduced visibility along the bridges this morning. we have had a lot of moisture pass through over the past few hours and we are going to continue to see that. the showers are deteriorating.

you can see that in the north bay. spotty action. it's what we are expecting. by the second half of the day, we see clearing. look at 1:00 p.m. the future cast shows a mostly dry bay area. mostly cloudy conditions making way to mostly sunny skies. by 4:00 p.m., the highs are going to end up in the mid-60s. wednesday the mid-70s and thursday the upper 70s. a nice warming trend on tap for us this week. 74 degrees on friday. 74 on saturday. a comfortable 68 degrees on sunday. what's happening is we have a big strong ridge of high pressure. finally, a big ridge that isn't going to go anywhere for 13 days, possible so warm stretch of dry, fair weather. it's what we are in store for after the early morning showers. let's see if they are slowing us down. actually, i am going to send it back to marla. >> i'm lovely.

welcome back. it is 6:21. a live look at the transamerica building in san francisco shows a foggy morning there. perhaps it could be slowing down the drive for early morning commuters. reduced visibility. let's check in with monique in for mike today. >> good morning. good morning, even. none of the bay area bridges have had fog advisories or high wind advisories. so far, so good. thumbs up for that. highway 4 is the slowest spot this morning. as we zoom in there, we see red. that means less than 20 miles per hour as you approach the love ridge area and make your way through pittsburg. we are seeing top speeds. slowing there around 101 where we had the earlier construction cleared at 5:00 this morning. let's head to the bay bridge where the metering lights were

just turned on. we are seeing a bit of a back up. give yourselves a couple extra minutes. about ten minutes when it's backed up to where it's at now. no problems across the bridge. we'll toss it back to you. >> thank you. forget the talk of $5 and $6 gas prices. in fact, prices may have peaked. the national average price of gas is $3.88. it's 23 cents off the all-time high of $4.11 in 2008. the publisher of the survey says weakening demand and a slower rise in crude oil keeps us from hitting that high again. she thinks prices will peak before summer and may have done so already. the average price here is $4.22 a gallon now. across the country, people are feeling the sting of high prices at the pump and the grocery store.

economists say the middle class is feeling the strain like never before. the salvation army says it's seen a growing number of people identifying themselves as middle class putting food on the table. san francisco's salvation army delivered more than 33,000 meals last year. it's more than double the previous year. it also saw a 20% increase in the number of food boxes it handed out last year. >> since the major economic downturn, we have really seen a change in the people we are serving. not only those that are low income or under privileged but maybe those middle class people that were laid off. >> at the same time, donations are down. that means the group is serving more people with fewer resources. googles most famous revolutionary is leaving. scott has a look at the technology headlines. >> he's been on leave from

google since the start of the revolution in egypt. now, he's leaving all together. he's credited with starting the unrest in his home country by creating a facebook page protesting the death of a street salesman. now, he's tweeting it is time for him to go. here is the tweet. decided to take a long term sabbatical from google and start a technology focused ngo, basically a charity to fight poverty and foster education in egypt. netflix reports profits today. the profits from interesting but reports from netflix carry such interesting data like how many movies we watch and how many of us stopped watching dvds all together. meanwhile, the play station network continues to be down today. it's affected the number of

good morning. >> good morning to you. we have showers out there this morning. now, we are dealing with fog as well. we'll zoom in and show where the showers are taking place. they are clearing out of here. we have a cell to the north of san jose and slick conditions across the board. give yourself extra time this morning. we are noticing the fog developing now over the bridges. take it easy out there. it will continue to be a factor as we head throughout the next couple hours. the skies will clear later today. the full forecast in moments. 6:30, though. let's see how the roadways look with monique. >> good morning, christina. good morning, everyone. metering lights turned on about five or ten minutes ago on the bay bridge. no fog advisories this morning. i'm going to keep my eye on that and keep you posted. a full look at the rest of the commute in a few minutes. we follow a string of shooting that is happened in oakland overnight.

it happened near the intersection of broadway and third street just before 1:00 this morning. today in the bay's christie smith is live on the scene with the latest. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you. homicide investigators are interviewing witnesses at this hour downtown after three separate shootings. two of them here near oakland. we are at fourth and broadway. it reopened a few minutes. a man opened fire. this is the worst of it. there are five evidence markers out front of sweet jimmie's bar this morning. about 12:45, a man pulled up in a car, had other people inside and tried to get into the bar. for some reason, they didn't let him in. he pushed his way in and started shooting, killing two men, ten to 12 people were inside at the time. four others hit. two critical, two stable.

it included two women. another man was shot overnight. they heard gunfire coming from outside yet another club that just let out. nonlife-threatening injuries in those cases. officers tell me it's been a very wild night in oakland, of course homicide investigators asking if you have information to give them a call. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. vallejo police need your help figuring out who killed a 22-year-old in the parking lot of a seven-eleven. surveillance was taken around 1:30. giovanni was shot outside the seven-eleven on magazine street. if you recognize these people, contact vallejo police. police are looking into how a man died on a trail.

a passer by found a 58-year-old dead, face down on the delta trail on friday. at first, police thought he died from a bicycle accident. the county coroner says he can't be sure. a full autopsy will be performed later this week. 6:33 now. we have an update on a big fire that sent three people to the hospital and forced dozens out of their homes. damian trujillo is live on the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, scott. the arson investigators left the scene at 4:30 this morning. they are trying to investigate what caused the fire that sent three people to the hospital. it happened around the corner from the central police station here in san francisco. the first call came in at 12:40 in the morning. with quick work, crews knocked it down 15 minutes later. the damage was already done. ambulances took victims to the

hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. the other people remain homeless, including five children. the red cross has been here all morning to provide emergency shelter and temporary housing. >> one person was able to find a place to stay on their own. the others, the other nine we are putting up in hotels to give them a place to stay. the caseworkers will help them tomorrow on longer term plans those that will not be going back in. >> it's terrifying. large flames coming out of their windows. i feel bad for our neighbors that lost their place. >> reporter: that victim says she heard an explosion. investigators are determining the cause of the fire. crews remained on the scene -- >> obviously, we are having difficulty with his signal there. we got the gist of it. we'll check in with him in a bit. >> meantime, california voters

appear to be siding with the governor when it comes to the budget and taxes. according to a times poll, 60% of californians would approve of a mix of budget cuts to help balance the budget. jerry brown wants to hold an election by the fall. republican lawmakers have been firm about blocking the vote. they say similar taxes were rejected in 2009. >> the voters have already spoken about this. the voters and the people that call me, some from my district and some from all over the state of california. i think they get it. we do ourselves a disservice in the capital when we do not listen to californians. >> californians need to be informed what a cuts budget would look like. everyone in this building needs to be informed. >> lawmakers would have to fill a $15 million deficit with cuts alone. we watched this marine layer come in. it's gray behind us.

what's going on. we are at buckingham palace. lots of visitors here. we expect a million of them throughout the course of the week. twice as many as normal for buckingham. what do you do if you are about to get married the weekend before your family? >> he spent it with her family. he's close to them. he calls her parents mom and dad. they went to church an had lunch together. he wants to be sure she gets to spend time with her family as well as his family after they are married. back here in london, lots of preparations. the royal calvary came by and they will be preparing all week at westminster abbey where it is to take place. a large open public area where people will gather on friday to watch the wedding on big screens.
