good morning, everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. we have a lot going on today. we start with the forecast and christina loren. >> let's start with the good news. it is going to be another gorgeous day. the east bay, we have to deal with winds. the temperatures are mild. we are in the 50s this morning. strong winds are making it feel cooler. fairfield at 18 miles per hour. east bay, we are calling it breezy. wind out of the south. concord, livermore, straight out of the west. we expect the winds to really pick up. we are headed toward the 80s in days. let's get you to work with mike inouye. hey, mike. >> it looks like a great forecast. no problems approaching the bay bridge toll plaza and the east shore freeway. 680 itself, a couple spots for

construction including the on and off ramps at 680. we have police activity. scott, i'm going hand it over to you. we have breaking news going on now. >> involved with that. police are investigating a murder. one person dead. a police officer injured. christie smith is live with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. there is a lot of police activity out here this morning in dublin. an investigation is under way. several police agencies involved now. this is an officer involved shooting involving a dublin police sergeant. here with me is j.d. nelson with the sheriff's department. can you walk us through what happened? >> just after 1:30 this morning, a dublin police sergeant is on routine patrol. a suspicious person put it on the radio. an officer got out.

at some point, the contact became confrontational. he hit her in the head. we don't know if it was with his first or an ob jekt. she put on her radio she needed help. within three minutes she had fired shots. >> reporter: who is this person? why would he do this? why would he attack her? >> he's well known in dublin. he's been arrested numerous, numerous times. he has a violent past of fighting with people so that's what we can surmise at this point. >> reporter: how is she doing? >> she is in the hospital with serious head injuries. she was bloodied up before she fired her weapon at him. she is at the hospital. >> reporter: expected to survive? >> correct. she was talking to investigators, yes. >> reporter: right now, we are at interstate 680 in dublin.

you have quite a few streets blocked off. how much longer is the investigation going to go on? >> for quite some time. anytime you have an officer involved shooting, things will be investigated thoroughly. the coroner's office still has to come out. >> reporter: reporting live in dublin, christie smith, live in the east bay. >> thank you so much. major league baseball is investigating an atlanta braves pitching coach for bashing san francisco with arable slurs. the coach got into an antigay tirade. justin quinn, who brought his daughters to the game asked him to watch his language. he turned on him, threatening the fans. >> kids don't belong fing out at

the ballpark. at that time, he turned to me, grabbed his bat, picked it up and asked me how much my teeth were worth to me. >> she is asking for an apology. as a federal investigation into the san bruno explosion moves in into high gear, a bay area congresswoman gave her support. congresswoman jackie spear hosted a town hall in san bruno. 100 people went to get the latest information. she says pg&e fell asleep at the wheel, put money in front of safety. >> they were asleep at the switch. the pipeline and hazardous safety administration was asleep at the switch. safety was not their number one priority. >> the transportation safety

board is investigating but they look at a pipe that was thought to be seamless. a new way to use your smartphone. it's unique and illegal. a bay area man is accused of impersonating the police. he says it's a misunderstanding. here is george. >> reporter: good morning. we have heard of people impersonating a police officer with fake badges, but never a cell phone app with flashing lights like this. it may be something like that, not the police. at first glance, these flashing lights appear to be from a police officer but they are not. they are from a cell phone app and on monday night, a 23-year-old man used a flashing light app to impersonate a police officer. >> she didn't know what to do. >> reporter: her babysitter was talking to her boyfriend when

another car approached with flashing red and blue lights. there are 100 apps online. we down loaded the one like this. they saw flashing lights that appeared to be coming from a flashing car. her boyfriend said not to get out of the car. when she did, she realized it's not a police car. she got scared and ran up, went into the house. >> reporter: investigators say the suspect took off in his car, then came back in person. she says she got a hysterical call from the baby sitter. i could hear the banging and the yelling. the dog was barking. i said to make sure the door was locked and hang up immediately. >> i'm trying to keep my neighborhood a safe place. >> reporter: is suspect says

it's a misunderstanding. he said he used the app because he thought the two people in the car were suspicious. once he realized they were not -- >> i immediately left the area, went back to my house and tried to go to the neighbors house, knock on their door. they wouldn't answer the door even though they saw me there to apologize to say hey, i'm sorry if i scared you guys. >> reporter: he's taking it upon himself to patrol the area. he's a neighborhood crime fighter. the flashing lights do not look like the real thing. >> i didn't have dirty intentions. i'm not trying to impersonate the police officers or anything like that. i'm trying to keep my neighborhood safe. >> he said he used a red-brown flashing light. they say you can't use any flashing lights. any form of police impersonators is illegal.

if you think you are being followed go to a public area and call the police. iran wants sherrod to come back. heifer appearance is considered mandatory, she is not expected to show. she was arrested along with her fiance shane bower and her friend josh fatel. shroud was released because of health problems with the expectations, at least by iran, that she would come back. the others remain in prison. they have pled not guilty to charges. progress in the frantic effort to track down the oakland and square shooters. the car carrying the gunman was this one, not a dodge avender.

she happened monday morning outside sweet jimmie's on friday. two young fathers were killed. there's a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a gun nanndman. police arrested a 33-year-old in the killing of a 25-year-old woman in his home on cherry street. officers responding to reports of an assault at his home wednesday morning found him outside with blood on his hands and clothes. monroe knew the victim but they have not said what the motive might have been. the oakland mayor will launch a program to help more people have internet. it's meant to help people access the internet regardless of income, age or educational background. more than 10 million people do not have high speed internet across california. this is 30% of all californians

and half of low-income families. let's check in with christina. the weather has just gotten better and better and better. >> glad we can please at least you. i'm sure somebody doesn't like it. we are going to see the majority of people happy about the warm up. it's going to continue today. it's windy. we have a piece of energy breaking off from a little piece of low pressure. it's going to happen later on today. it's going to kick up gusty winds throughout the east bay hills. right now, we are looking okay. the winds are strong out of the south in concord. livermore, out of the west at 6 miles per hour. this is where we are headed later on today. upper 60s, low 70s. 72 in santa rosa. this disturbance that pushes through will keep the temperatures from getting warmer than yesterday. of course, we have to deal with the windy conditions. tomorrow and next week, the temperatures climb each and every day. your extended forecast is coming

up. we'll get to that in a couple minutes. let's get you to work at 4:41. if you have to go to work, it's tough. >> it is tough. we should know. we are still already on highway 4. 69 at horizon lane and we have a nice flow of traffic off the antioch bridge. we have a watch out point southbound 680 at 24 at the walnut creek interchange. a deer was hit in the roadway. we'll watch for lanes closed. no problems at the transition. looking further south at dublin, we continue to follow the police investigation after an overnight shooting involving one police officer around the amador plaza road. christie smith is reporting from there. trying to get details on specifically what roads are closed. it sounds like the shopping center is closed. i'll give you an update.

absolute devastation. more than 170 people are dead in five states. more than 120 of them in alabama alone killed by these massive storms in the south. amateur video here of a storm in tuscaloosa. you can hear it there in the background. at least 15 people died there. president obama has approved federal disaster assistance for the state today. we have more about it. >> reporter: the devastating storm rolled across the southern states. the hardest hit was alabama. this video shot by the university of alabama. this wedge tornado was in the northern part of the state where emergency management officials say at least six people died. residents watched a pair of funnel clouds bearing down on

the town's center. a courthouse and church were damaged. residents scamable for safety. >> got in there just in time. >> reporter: the line of storms toppled large trees, crushed vehicles and homes in birmingham. tens of thousands of people are without power. this has been a serious and deadly event that's affected our state. >> reporter: the storms left a trail of destruction across the city. flooding is a major concern. an elderly man was swept away and killed. emergency crews used boats to rescue family members in the line of storm. it's pressing east moving through the carolinas and virginia. >> now, we continue to follow developments on the storm. we have live reports for you. ebay says first quarter profits are up 20% as more users turn to

the auction site and papal. let's turn to nicole. >> good morning, scott. the mobile payments turned the stock around in afterhours trading. this morning, futures are flat. stocks rising after ben bernanke held his first ever press conference. he's comfortable with keeping rates low for now and won't make quick news. data here state side on employment, pending sales and gdp. growth is forecast to have slowed with higher food and gas prices crimping the u.s. consumer. starbucks says higher dairy cuts into profits this year more than previously thought. for now, the coffee chain doesn't plan to raise drink prices. to offset the costs, the ceo says he doesn't believe the rally in coffee bean prices is
