10:11 am
there? >> hey, honey. well, you know, it was a party really. i'm right here across from the australia gate and, in fact, you can see the balcony where we got not one but two kisses. and that's, in a sense, almost symbolic of, i think, the vibe that was going on. you had that first kiss and the crowd applauded and then there was this groundswell, kiss her again. kiss her again. and, sure enough, they kissed again. and i think they worked very hard and you saw last night william and harry come out, shake hands with people who were hanging around clarence house, and that's been this whole -- that's been the whole motif here. they didn't want things over the top. they wanted it to be kind of normal. and the other thing to me that was very impressive, all the crowds that gathered, they estimated about 80,000 people gathered in trafalgar square and after the royal family came back to buckingham palace, the police walked the crowd down the mall a
10:12 am
mile and a half and it was this orderly almost festive parade march. >> it was such a beautiful sight. >> it really was. and you watched them wedge everybody in and then, of course, the doors opened up. i have to tell you, these british know how to throw a wedding. everything on time, baby. big, bang, boom. >> you like it like that. >> have the crowds dissipated? is everyone heading back? >> yeah, you know, it's interesting. the folks who were the first in are the folks had are in this pen, these pens that kind of are around the perimeter of the queen, t victoria memorial. all those folks who came from trafalgar square got in in front of them. they were closer in. they were then issued out. they are still here. the first in, the last out. they are soaking in the atmosphere. >> i'm so glad the weather stayed nice for them. that could have changed everything.
10:13 am
>> it did. it really did. >> come on home. >> we miss you. come on back. >> i'll be home soon. >> love you. we have a royal expert who will join us, a former private secretary and she's a staff to princess diana. he is standing by. hi, patrick. >> hi, patrick. >> hi, hoda, hi, kathie lee. >> we have so much affection for this young couple. how much of that would you say because which wiilliam is a roy because he is the first born of the beloved princess diana? >> well, i think it's a bit of both. it is a lovely party just as we've heard. these things only come along once in a generation. and of course the last time it happened was when william's parents got married. i can remember it all too well. and it was a wonderful time. it was an innocent time. we're not as innocent anymore but we still know how to have a party and recognize the value of what we have. >> interesting. one thing, a logistics question.
10:14 am
he didn't look at her. is that following the rule? >> well, i would think that he's a military man. they've rehearsed this and he wouldn't be the first groom who wanted to just build the anticipation a little bit long er before he turned and saw his beautiful bride. >> you know, patrick, it did seem -- i know the world is not in the place as it once was but this was a deeply spiritual ceremony, it seemed to me. was that on purpose as well? i know england is going through hard times. all of the kingdom is. >> well, i agree with you. i think it's remarkable. the younger generation are the ones able to see past all the royal theatrics to the real meeting of the wedding and that's very encouraging. >> it also felt sort of intimate. we were describing how something so huge somehow felt like you were peeking in on secrets between those two love birds. >> yeah, it's interesting.
10:15 am
i was speak iing to my daughter and she said, you know, it's more important to me than it's a wedding. first and foremost it's a beautiful wedding. there's a great truth in that. >> the gentleman who gave the sermon -- >> he was terrific. >> was lovely. all wedings in a way are royal because we're all daughters and sons of the creator, the king. that's so great. thank you so much, patrick. >> you're welcome. >> diana was smiling from heaven, don't you think? >> i'm sure. >> that mikes me cry. thank you, patrick. up next, remember when we asked to you to let us know about a bride who deserved a royal makeover herself? >> guess what, we got them and our ambush team is ready to show you the results. you're right, puggle-wuggle! hey, wiggly. all right, i'm smart enough to notice that my favorite fresh-brewed mickey d's sweet tea is now on the dollar menu, along with that juicy mcdouble. so i'm smart enough for this. you're the best, too... sweet tea...
