good morning, everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. it's 4:30. we are going to start with the forecast and christina loren. >> good morning to you. we are live in one of your favorite cities in the bay area. we are live in palo alto. it's not that cold. it's friday. the temperatures this weekend are going to be perfect for mother's day weekend. high pressure is still in control. low pressure is to the north. we are going to see a little of the coastal a.m. fog. a mix of clouds and sun. the clouds stay with us throughout the weekend. it will be nice temperature wise, temps in the mid to low 70s all weekend long. we have the extended forecast in

cool they wouldn't have to come to class, especially on a friday because of the furlough day. the more they started thinking about it, they felt they were getting cheated out of their education. they decided to teach themselves, according to people in the human rights class. then, teachers joined in and administrators. because of budget cuts, they are losing three days of school as teachers are furloughed. the teach-in will include a number of subjects like art, education and creative writing, including writing letters to state and federal lawmakers about what's going on here. they sent out a robo call and it's all over facebook. students under 12 have to have an adult with them if they want

to come. it's at mount diablo high. this is the first of three furlough days. there's one the 27th and may 31st. >> thank you much. this morning, folks in pleasant hill neighborhoods will be allowed to go outside again. pg&e gave the all clear after a gas leak. they lifted the order about 11:00 last night. it was reported near oak park boulevard. pg&e crews shut down parts overnight while they worked on fixing the leak. a suspected serial killer will be back in court so a judge can rule on his request. he told the judge hiring an attorney would be too expensive. he's not eligible for a public defender because he has more than $1 million in liquid

assets. he's accused of killing four northern california women including two from contra costa county during the '70s and the '90s. they are reviewing cold cases to see if there's a link to him. today, president obama will thank the navy s.e.a.l.s team that brought down osama bin laden. the unit known as team six is a special operations task force made up of the best of the best. he will make a visit to ft. campbell in kentucky. you will not see pictures as their identity is secret. the president will meet with them as well as members of the air force who flew. the meeting comes as we get new information on the raid of bin laden's compound. they shot a courier who returned

fire, then they shot and killed osama bin laden's son. they shot him dead and wounded one of his wives in an upstairs bedroom. during the raid, they found evidence al qaeda network planned a large scale attack on trains on the upcoming anniversary of the september 11th attacks. tony shin takes a look at how four-legged fighters are playing a modern role in combat. >> we have a belgian coming in here. >> reporter: there are many reasons why the u.s. military uses dogs. >> because of their intelligence, their willingness to work, their speed. they are a perfect fit for the military and police force. >> he's going to send him in

that's the big question. >> first an foremost, i would like to say good morning to your mother. she raised a very, very decent individual who i like working with. we are looking good this morning. we are going to see clear conditions inland. a little bit of fog pushes in at the coast. we are seeing the fog roll in over us. today, a mix of sun and clouds by the weekend. moms day weekend, partly cloudy conditions, temps in the 70s. if you want to do brunch, make the plans with a clear conscience. we are not expecting significant rainfall. we have a slight chance of precipitation to the north. that could produce maybe light spritzes or a sprinkle or two in the east bay. south of the golden gate bridge will remain nice and dry.

today, same situation, 75 in san jose, 77 in gilroy. turning over to the low 70s by tomorrow. this is what we are looking toward as we head throughout the next few days. no significant rainfall in sight for ten days. the long, dry weather spell we have had is going to persist to next week when the temperatures end up in the upper 70s. it's going to be nice this weekend for whatever plans you have with your mom. i know someone who grew up in mountain view. she is probably watching today. happy mother's day to mikey's mom. >> we'll check in with mike in a minute. high fees were scheduled to expire on july 1st. this money will go toward closing the state budget gap. >> reporter: 2.4 million cars are registered in california. no one is getting reminder

sale of marijuana, state law does. web map usage coming from smartphones, google is putting a spin on shopping. they are launching an extension of business photos. here is an animation advertising the concept to business users. it works like street view giving a panoramic of participating businesses. it was announced at the conference in san francisco yesterday. futures will be bouncing this morning after yesterday's sell off. the slump in crude oil could mean gas prices go down, right? good morning, courtney. >> reporter: good morning, scott. futures are higher. we saw a huge sell-off and commodities triggers after the european central bank was noncommittal about hiking

prices. gold fell $50 and silver 8%. oil slid more than $10. we are trading actually below $100 a barrel at $97 a barrel. more on that in a moment. asia fell overnight. europe is mixed. the big item of the day is the monthly jobs report. the job growth slowed last month as higher prices for everything is prompting them to rethink their hiring plans. it's holding at 8.8%. does the recent drop mean lower prices at the pump? not necessarily. they have risen 44 straight days to an average of $3.99 a gallon. oil would have to hold around $100 a barrel for ten days before you see a difference at the pump. it could peak to $4.20 a gallon

i think san francisco, yeah, you are going to have fog at least for a short time this morning. later on today, lots of sunshine, a mix of sun and clouds. the clouds decrease throughout the afternoon. you can see the weather maker, the system of low pressure to the north. this is what's going to bring about the changes. a few more clouds, cooler conditions, on shore flow is back in the bay. your highs are down right perfection. 75 degrees in livermore for you in the east bay. 77 in places like fairfield and 75 degrees in concord and fremont. gorgeous temperatures. you can pretty much break out the spring wardrobe and keep it out for awhile. the temperatures are headed into the 70s for next week as well. the warm, dry weather will persist. the temperatures are going to climb, once again, getting coasty around here. as of thursday and next weekend. we have a big weekend on tap. right now, a beautiful mother's day weekend and beautiful

installation of the superstructure. at the north end, the former location of the tunnel, the team entered from the deconstruction winding down over the top of the ball. back of the historic facade looks like the ruins in rome will be prepared for a new concrete wall to be placed against it. that has to be roughed in. the goal is to try to keep the good things about memorial stadium, the ball, the facade, the relationships people have built over the years here. keep all those and improve the things people didn't like about the stadium, the poor circulation, improved food and beverage, improved restrooms and make it a building and facility cal can gather at for the next 100 years. we are going to maintain the

collegiate bench feel. we will have approximately 3,000 new stadium chairs. three new clubs. that's part of the sales program, paying the bill for the project. we are going renovate the stadium and leave it behind for people and students and alumni after us. this building will be here for 75 or 100 years. i think people working on the project, administrative leaders, leaders from athletics like to leave the legacy behind. they were fostering the tradition for future generations. >> 4:51 now. the list of popular baby names are coming up. we'll explain just ahead. >> we are looking at a smooth drive through 580. no incidents reported. s out for you. it's a get away friday.
