back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. we begin with a scary story out of sfo. there was an american airlines flight bound from sfo that had quite an incident on board. let's check in with damian trujillo. he's live with the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. things are back to normal here at sfo. it was quite a scare for dozens of passengers who landed safely at the airport. a man with a yemeni passport ran to the cockpit and was banging on the door on the flight from chicago to sfo. flight attendants and passengers tackled the guy and put him in plastic handcuffs and held him until the plane lasted safely. he was carrying a california id. he was taken to the county hospital with minor cuts, then arrested on federal charges of interfering with the flight crew.

>> my information was he does speak english. i don't have the information about what he was saying at this time. i just know that he was yelling and pounding on the cockpit door. >> reporter: the incident is the latest in security concerns over the weekend. two other passenger flights were diverted on sunday. one a chicago flight diverted from houston. a passenger tried to reach the exit door mid flight. another flight from drot to san diego was diverted from what was called a potential security threat. american airlines flight 1561 bound from o'hare to chicago to sfo. all is back to normal. i'm damian trujillo, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. now, for a look at the rest of today's news.

we want to check in this monday morning with marla tellez. she has a look at a case in san francisco from overnight. good morning. >> good morning to you. good morning to you at home. the time is just about 5:03. a man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl is dead this morning. 20-year-old jesse brown shot and killed himself this weekend after changing fire with police. two officers were shot, but expected to live. brown may have been on the run since the halloween shooting. he allegedly shot a young girl, her grandfather and another girl outside their home. all of them sur strived. police looking for a man who assaulted a woman in south san francisco. the woman was walking last wednesday night when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to rape her. the attacker took off when he couldn't get her clothes off. police say he is hispanic, 5'9",

200 pounds with a stocky build. he has short buzz cut. this morning, a san jose city councilman is taking responsibility for his actions of driving under the influence. councilman ash kalra learned his lesson after drinks. he was pulled over early saturday morning. a chp officer noticed his taillight was out and smelled alcohol. his blood alcohol level was .12. of course, that's above the legal limit of .08. >> i hope it's -- i hope that my experience with it and how horrifying it was serves as an example to others, especially given my position that people can see it, it's not worth it. >> police booked him before

citing and releasing him. the man accused of causing the summit fire will be in court this morning. 50-year-old channing will attend a preliminary hearing. the contractor is accused of starting a garbage fire that sparked a huge wildfire three years ago. he pleaded not guilty. investigators say he did not have a burn permit. the summit fire burned 4200 acres and 132 buildings. that's a look at some of your local top stories this morning. we are going to head out to marin county where laura is standing by. good morning. >> good morning to you. i feel spoiled with all the great cities we are able to visit across the area. giving you a highlight. now, we want to check the area with christina loren. >> good morning to you. we have a lot of sunshine for the second half of your day. you'll notice a good deal of

cloud cover as you step out the front door this morning. you are noticing the lingering shower activity over the sierra nevada. lake tahoe getting snowfall this time of year. we are expecting mammoth to stay open until july 4th. high pressure moves in and takes control of the forecast. we are going to see the numbers start to climb as we head through the middle of your week. we'll see the 80s back on the map. low 70s at that. 50 degrees in san francisco. 51 in oakland. turning over to the upper 60s by noon and by 4:00 p.m., the low 70s. 72 degrees in concord. 69 degrees in oakland and 68 in san francisco. you'll be out of the 60s by tomorrow. stay tuned, the seven day outlook in a moment. hey, mike. >> good morning, christina. we start in the south bay.

you expect a light volume of traffic. look at the speed sensors showing you a light volume of traffic. it's a nice smooth flow. you are at the limit coming out of san jose. up the lower bay shore. 101 and 280 is moving nicely. 101 in both directions slows down. just about 6:30 or 7:00 is when we see the slowdowns. dumbarton bridge. we'll get a life look at 880 past the coliseum. 92 has a high wind advisory. the camera is not shaking here. the winds are calm there through o oakland. no problems on the bay bridge. a glow with the lights. fog is not an issue. laura garcia-cannon is waiting for us, hanging out there this morning. >> exactly. lucky me. we are going to have so much

people come here to have fun, come to buy a boat. they come in by water. we have the outdoor seating and outdoor bar. >> it's a wonderful place to be. everybody says meet me at sams. the hard thing is getting a table. >> we can usually get you a table. on the weekends may be harder. it's a lot of fun. people are willing to wait for a table because they have a view of san francisco. we have boats coming in. people jumping in the water. >> you have the works out here. after a few bloody marys, more and more people jumping in the water. it's an main street in tiburon. a lot of secret finds people may not know about tiburon. >> we have a lot of nice shops in town. actually, i think the shortest main street in the world on lower main, then it extends into upper main.

march at the state capital today. they are there to tell lawmakers to stop the cuts. they say they have sacrificed enough already and it's time for different solutions. pipeline testing is getting under way. pg&e is trying to stop gas explosion from happening. time is 5:13. a chilly start to your monday. christina says it's going to warm up. is that right? >> that is right. it's chilly. 5:13 in the morning. thanks for waking up with us. we have precipitation on the map this morning. this is over lake tahoe. we have the uplift, snow showers coming down. yeah, you can still go snow boarding and skiing. mammoth is slated to be open until the fourth of july. high pressure is a ways away. it's going to move in as we head through each and every day through thursday. warming up a little bit until

for so many ships coming in. for a bit more on the background, we want to check in with bob redell. he is at the museum in town. good morning. >> the train and ferry depot. sams, which is where you are at. this is what it looked like in 1909. you can see it. it one on the shoreline. didn't show up until 1920. this is the mckneel building. this is main street. obviously, it's been paid. tiburon over 100 years ago looks nutting like tiburon today. phil, good morning to you. what was tiburon like in 1909? >> railroad town. blue collar. basically a company town. northwestern pacific railroad. >> reporter: the ferry's taking the cars from san francisco. they did passengers who wanted to continue their rail trip into northern california.

that ended in 1920 when passenger traffic went somewhere else. what do you think would surprise people most of the the history of tiburon? you can see what it was like. >> i think the biggest change is when it became from a dairy to a railroad. went from 45 people in the peninsula that 300 overnight. that completely changed this area. >> reporter: you have been here, you said 26 years now. why are you so interested in the history so much that you would want to run a museum? >> well, when i was little, we would come down and watch the trains. there was a bridge across the rails. you could take your bicycle up and go watch them, look down on them and see them go by. it was pretty exciting. it was a nice way to pass time. >> reporter: laura and you folks at home, take a look at this photo. this is from 1920. it gives you a sense of how well

good morning, everybody. well col back. it's now 5:20 on this monday morning. a live look at hp pavilion, the shark tank. unfortunately, the sharks heading back to detroit against the red wings. a tough, 4-3 loss. there will be a game six that will happen tomorrow night. let's look at the roads. what's going on, mike? >> i was thinking about how i was hoping the sharks could have celebrating with tiburon, which is spanish for shark.

slowing for 57. i did see a blip. i saw speeds dipping down into the 50s. it might be an early indication of the burst of traffic coming through. 580 not showing a change up for this drive. a 14-minute drive to the dublin interchange. 580 continues on. typical blip showing up here and there. 880 and 92, a nice look at the connector. the san mateo bridge showing an increase in volume. overnight, chp showed a wind advisory for the san mateo bridge. we'll keep that in mind near the high-rise. 880 to the maze is nice and smooth. the freeways showing a smooth flow. east shore freeway from the

carquinez bridge. the benicia bridge is lice nice look out of the bay bridge. not a problem. in fact, a lighter problem than we saw 15 to 20 minutes ago. we are going to get a burst of traffic in 45 minutes as more folks head into the area and across the bay. back to you. >> thank you. more trouble at napa state hospital after a violent attack on an employee. there was an assault and it is under vegsz. officials aren't saying what happened. in the past year, there have been three separate attacks on staff members by patients at the hospital. in one instance, a staff member was killed. she was strangled by a patient last october. just last month, california

regulators fined the hospital more than $100,000 for safety failure that is came to light after that incident. san mateo wants to crack down on prostitutes posing asthma sanlg therapists. right now, they need a state license. they want to ban them from wearing provocative clothing and limit business hours from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. higher licensing fees are being considered. a surprise for a bay area mom. it happened at an event for military moms. she was eating brunch when her son, army specialist johnny walked in. look at the surprise on her face. he's been in texas healing from a roadside bomb in iraq that took his leg. as expected rksz it was an emotional reunion. >> they did a really good job.

i had no idea what was going on. >> happy mother's day mom, i love you. >> johnny told the crowd his mom made such a difference in his life especially during his long recove recovery. every year, a special brunch held for military moms giving them the thanks they deserve. another monday and still no fix to sony's play station network. scott mcgrew who is getting fired over this within? >> somebody probably should be or resign. this is a disaster. an expensive disaster. several weeks of failure on sony play station could cost the company $1 billion. this will make it the most devastating hacker attack in history. both in the number of accounts stolen but it may not be back until june.

at this point, you can expect frustrated video game players to buy themselves an x-box, sell the play station at a garage sale. congress is looking at a do not track bill, one of the biggest updates to internet law. it allows parnents to erase all records of their kids online. have the permission to enter their personal information on a website from 13 to 18 and prohibit them from using data to market to children. it's one of several bills under consideration. one thing to consider, laura, the bills generally cover the web, not mobile. kids these days have almost forgotten the web. they are all about their phones. >> very interesting, scott.

6:00 a.m. you can't use the sterling street onramp through the area. back to you out there in tiburon. >> okay, we'll check back with you. thank you, mike. we are following a strange case of violence in the east bay, in oakley. an arson investigation is under way after a domestic dispute. christie smith joins us with the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. it is quite noisy in the neighborhood. there's been a crew out here for a couple hours boarding up the home. there literally is no roof left. upstairs you can see that. the first firefighter saw smoke and flames coming from the upstairs. they immediately requested a second alarm to this house fire on bay view drive. it took more than 30 minutes to gain control. fortunately, nobody was home at the time.

a neighbor was telling a story of some suspicious activity here of someone removing appliances earlier. we are trying to check into that now. a major concern here is as the home was burning, the one next to it, they are so close together, maybe seven or eight feet, the flames were dangerously close to catching others on fire. crews put up a screen to protect the other homes. the home has major, major damage. fire investigators expected to be here at daybreak to try and determine a cause. reporting live in oakley, christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. now for more on overnight news that happened. there was an american airlines flight from chicago bound from san francisco when something frightening happened on board. damian trujillo is live at sfo with the details for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning,

laura. everything is now back to normal at sfo. everything unraveled a half hour before the plane landed in san francisco. that's when a scuffle broke out mid flight. police say a 28-year-old man with a yemeni passport ran to the cockpit and was banging on the door during the flight from chicago to san francisco. one of the flight attendants called for back up after trying to force the man to sit down. another attendant and two passengers tackled the man. they put him in plastic handcuffs until the plane landed safely. he was carrying a california id. he was taken to the county hospital with minor cuts, then arrested on federal charges of interfering with the flight crew. san francisco police sergeant michael rodriguez describes the scene for us.

>> they were able to subdue the passenger, place him on the ground and use the flex handcuffs that the flight attendants have for these types of incidents. they were able to put them on behind his back, place him in a first class seat and hold on to him there until they landed at sfo. >> reporter: the incident is the latest in a series of security concerns. two other passenger flights had to be diverted sunday, one a chicago bound flight from houston. that landed in st. louis after a passenger tried to reach the exit door mid flight. another flight had to be diverted to albuquerque after authorities describe security concerns. back here in san francisco, sergeant rodriguez does not know if he has any ties to al qaeda or any other terrorist groups. however, he is now in county jail in redwood city. they will keep talking to him

until the next court date. live at sfo, i'm damian trujillo, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. now, we want to turn to a look at the rest of the day's news. marla tellez is in the news room including a new round of tests for bge. good morning. >> they are at it again. good morning to you. pg&e testing in mountain view just got under way this morning. less than an hour ago, they started pressure testing. it's to reveal potential problems that could lead to a deadly explosion like what happened in san bruno. crews are also venting a pipeline in antioch this morning. this is near highway 160. this evening, pg&e will hold a meeting in san bruno to talk about upcoming work in the area. it's scheduled for 5:30. in fairfield, police were

called out a dozen times within the past year to the house where three people were killed this weekend. neighbors identifying 37-year-old jason as the man responsible for killing another man and woman inside his home before turning the gun on himself. he is also suspected of hurting a third person who escaped and called 911. is suspects father says the woman killed was jason's ex-girlfriend. she could live in the house because her name was on the deed. a separate court order was served yesterday. it's unclear if that triggered the shooting. a week of action for teachers at the state capital. they are going to hand out literature and participate in sit-ins to protest funding cuts. they say their schools have already been hit hard. classes packed and teachers working on their own time and dime to get things done.

they say it's only going to get worse if lawmakers and the governor can't work together to balance the budget. >> we are going to try to deliver the message any way we can that our kids deserve better. our state deserves better. continue to a balances approach. right now, the state faces a budget gap of $15 billion. massive cuts have been made leaving lawmakers with two options, fill the remaining hole and make deeper cuts to services and other programs or extend a temporary tax that is set to expire in june. a bay area county trying to get ahead of fire agencies. they will begin neighborhood patrols as part of governor jerry brown's wildfire awareness week. trim vegetation around the property and get rid of dried debris on rooftops. you might see smoke this week

the wind advisory is cleared from that section. a live look at oakland where there's a little build up. no slowing. there's slowing in antioch, highway 4. it kicked off at 5:30. it slows down to 34. it will go down to the 20s. then the south bay, no major issues here. i saw a slam down on traffic. speeds are coming back up. that's a construction zone. there could be construction for the next 15 to 20 minutes. so, from the south bay back up to the north bay, we are going to send it back out to you live in marin county, in tim ron. >> that's right. the may across the bay. we are going to have more on how emergency responders here help disaster preparedness around the

laura is. we'll look at it coming up. good morning. welcome back. 5:51. the sun is beginning to rise. a live look at the bay bridge. we check the morning commute with mike in a minute. crossing the golden gate bridge by foot is about to get more crowded. crews getting ready to close the sidewalk for four months as they work on the earthquake retro fit. walkers, joggers and cyclists are have to share the east sidewalk during daylight hours. cyclists can cross the bridge 24 hours a day. walking is restricted between sunrise and sunset. how are the cars doing on the golden gate this morning, mike? >> they are doing all right. it will be an issue for the walkers and bikers. right here, we are watching this

change as it happened on 580 westbound, which is the 15-minute drive. altamont to north flin road. speeds down into the 20s. l street, there's a 30 over toward loveridge. we continue to build the traffic on highway 4. here, approaching the bay bridge, the maze heading toward the toll plaza, not a major issue. it will be a while for the other folks heading up into the area. once they do, this is what they will see. there's back up in the cash lanes now, forming. one of the cash lanes is not open, maybe two. they should reopen in the next few minutes heading into the city. a new accident are reported. i'm following the approach into san francisco. the san mateo bridge is moving smoothly. there's haze in the air but no issues. use the bridge, if you are close to that.

there's the accident we are following in the city off the upper deck. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 5:53 now. new research suggests a link between a controversial alcohol fee and decrease in the violence in crime. uc river side researcher says calls for service dropped over the past two years in unincorporated parts of the county. they think it's linked to an alcohol fee that passed in 2005. it requires them to pay an $800 fee. it forces businesses to train employees to not sell alcohol to minors. nurses at the children's oakland hospital will return to the picket line. they didn't take the weekend off, even though it was mother's day. >> the nurses won't give up. >> they held the line while

celebrating with a mother's day brunch. the nurses are protesting the hospital's change to health benefits. i requires them to pay more for health care if they want to use the children's hospital or get full coverage under a kaiser plan. the strike will end tomorrow. san francisco police chief is trying to lead by example when it comes to trimming fat from the budget. the chronical is giving up -- he says he knows his way around town and likes his ford focus hybrid. he gave up a $20,000 cost of living raise. they are trying to convince the rest of the police force to give up a pay raise to help balance the city budget. more cuts could be coming to san jose's biggest company. i'm talking cisco systems.
