it is back to work and back to school monday. let's get to the weather headlines. a cool start with a mix of sun and clouds later on today. the highs in the 70s. we are going to warm up each and every day this week. we have a lot to talk about. we are going to break down the numbers all morning long. let's get you to work with mike inouye. >> so far, so good approaching the bay bridge. we have the accident. civic center off ramp on the san francisco side. a little slowing approaching the interchange. it's at the off ramp or off the freeway. if it's not your exit, you should be fine. watch for activity there. the toll plaza shows a build. the cash lanes are showing a slowdown on the far right off the car pool lanes. the rest of the back up hasn't held up. the metering lights 20 to 25 minutes. from the north bay, a nice easy

drive. laura is out there in marin county. how is it going? >> that's right, we are going to have more coming up. first, a look at the day's top stories as federal investigators are looking at an incident on a flight bound for sfo. let's check in with damian trujillo. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. things are back to normal at sfo. a scuffle broke out a half hour before american airlines flight 1561 landed here at sfo. police say a 28-year-old man with a yemeni passport ran toward the cockpit and was banging on the cockpit door yelling during the flight from chicago to san francisco. one of the flight attendants called for back-up. another attendant and two passengers jumped in and tackled the suspect. they put him in plastic handcuffs and held him until the

plane landed safely. he was carrying a california id. he was taken to the county hospital with minor cuts then arrested on federal charges of interfering with the flight crew. few details are coming out about who he is. >> my information was he does speak english. i don't have the information about what he was saying at this time. i just know that he was yelling and pounding on the cockpit door. >> reporter: the incident is the latest in a series of security concerns over the weekend. two other flights had to be diverted on sunday. one, a chicago flight bound from houston. that flight landed in st. louis after a passenger tried to reach the exit door mid flight. another flight had to be diverted to albuquerque after security concerns. right now, he is in county jail in redwood city.

they are trying to determine if he has ties to al qaeda or any other terrorist group. we are live at sfo, i'm damian trujillo, today in the bay. >> thanks for the update. now, for a look at the rest of the news, we turn to marla tellez. she's live this morning with more of the day's news including a shooting suspect over the weekend. good morning. >> the case started six months ago. good morning, it's 6:03 now. the man accused of shooting a 3-year-old girl and two other people in san francisco on halloween is dead this morning. 20-year-old jessie brown shot and killed himself this weekend after a shoot-out with houston police at a greyhound bus terminal. two officers are shot, but expected to live. he may have been on the run since the halloween shooting. it's when he shot a young girl, her grandfather and another man outside a home. all of them survived. police are looking for a man

who assaulted a woman in south san francisco. the woman was walking on san mateo avenue when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to rape her. he took off when he couldn't take off the woman's clothes. he is hispanic, 5'9", 2000 pounds with a stocky build and short, buzz cut hair style. a councilman is taking responsibility after being arrested for driving under the influence. he says he learned his lesson. he had a few drinks over several hours. chp officer pulled him over for having a burned out taillight. chp says he smelled of alcohol. the field sobriety test showed his blood alcohol level .12, which is above the legal limb of .08. >> i hope that my experience

with it and how horrifying it was serves as an xamp toll others, especially given my position that people can see. it's not worth it. >> police booked him and waited for him to sober up before releasing him. the man accused of causing the summit fires will be in court this morning. the landscape contractor is accused of starting a garbage fire that sparked the wildfire three years ago. he pleaded not guilty. investigators say he did not have a burn permit. they burned 4200 acres and 132 buildings. it's a look at some of your news around the bay area. laura, is it warming up in tiburon? >> it helps when i jump around a little bit. it's always cold before the sun comes up.

the sun arrived. we are following the day's news including a look at a fire that neighbors say appears to be very suspicious. it happened in oakley. that is where today in the bay's christy smith joins us with the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. a crew is boarding up a home. the roof is gone and there's not a whole lot left. i got off the phone with oakley police. they tell me, they have been called to this home many times before on domestic violence incidents. they have been in contact with the man who lives here since the fire started at 11:00 last night. the neighbors tell them this man has been acting strangly and someone has been removing appliances from the home, damaging the home, bringing a large chain and tieing it to the house and pick-up truck to pull it down. police tell us they are waiting for firefighters to finish their investigation before deciding how to proceed. no one is under arrest.

they ever trying to sort it out. this fire broke out at 11:00 at a home on bay view. it took an hour to knock down. neighbors say a couple lived here, but no one was home at the time. police say what's really strange is the home has very extensive damage inside, but really everything was taken out. there was nothing in there to burn. they are not sure why it is so badly damaged. an odd situation here. coming up in the next half hour, we spoke with a neighbor and we'll tell you what he had to say about what he saw last night. reporting live in oakley, christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. as we warm up here in tiburon, i have to show you, these guys are getting out of the water this morning. i'm freezing and i guess i would be a wimp. we are going to talk to them in a little bit. christina loren, you are warm in the studio this morning. you can tell me the temperatures

are cold out here. >> i have a way to warm up, let's go back to that topples man out there. good morning to you. we are looking good. climate control 72 degrees inside. that's where the highs are headed later on today. high pressure is firmly in control. mostly clear conditions. high pressure is going to build in throughout the afternoon. it's going to bring the temperatures up from the 50s to the mid-60s. by noon, a comfortable day in the city. mild conditions. as we head through the latter portion of the day, 68 degrees by 4:00 p.m. breezy conditions all day long. tomorrow, we are not dealing with as much in terms of wind. for today, the temperatures are very, very pleasant in the heat of the day. 41 degrees in fair field. 70 for fremont. 73 for los gatos. 70s continue throughout the week. if you want to start saving on your bill, pg&e this week, leave the ac off and the heater off

and let mother nature do her job. we are not going to get perfection for that long. rain for the weekend. then next week, the temperatures skyrocket. we'll talk about that coming up. let's get you to work with mike. >> good morning. we are looking at a slower drive for livermore. speeds in the 40s. most of the drive out of the altamont pass brings the speeds up. clear by pleasanton. it will clear up as well. we are looking at continued slowing, additional slowing in antioch, speeds in the 20s. a little below near a street and l street. horizon is where things pick up a bit. then clearing through bay point and pittsburg as well. the maze moves nicely through this area. a smooth drive approaching the bay bridge.

chopper was over 880. now, they are looking at the bridges, the golden and bay bridge. no problems to show. i'll show you the toll plaza. there you go, the cash lanes back-up is cleared. slowing in all lanes. we should see the metering lights turned on in 15 minutes being a typical monday. they have canceled all wind advisories by chp. there's a chill in the area where you are in the north bay. how is it going? >> it's okay. things are warming up this morning. we are having a lot of fun. an up close look at the tools ti the buron fire departmentti uses to put out fires in the water. >> i'm going to catch up with the guys swimming in the water. they do it for charity.

welcome back, everyone. our may tour around the bay continues this morning. we are waking up in beautiful tiburon in the north bay this morning. so much to enjoy here. it's a sailors paradise as well as a land lovers dream. they have a main street walk that happens on friday nights. it's a lot of fun. i think the next one is coming up june 17th. always something beautiful to enjoy here in tiburon. it's a great sense of community. i found that with all the people coming out this morning. when bob redell joins me live here this morning, you have a good gig with the fire department. >> reporter: you like my ride? it's not a yat. it's going a lot of things a yacht can do. they have the back area where they can keep their equipment. good morning gentlemen. thanks for having us on board. it serves as the cabin for the

pilot, good morning to you, they can use this as an ambulance. they have a floor, heat detection camera and up front, we have the two grande's from the fire department. good morning to you. we were talking earlier, i'm surprised at how much use this boat gets. the sleepy town of tiburon. you are out here how often? >> usually every day. upwards of six to eight times a month we have a fire boat response. there's so much traffic. there's always something happening. >> reporter: how much is medical and how much fire boat capsizing? >> it's about the same as on land. 80% medical and 20% people under stress. >> reporter: a few years ago when the island was on fire, you

warehouse explosion. we'll tell you more as soon as more comes into our news room. the world's largest passenger jet makes a debut tomorrow morning and you can watch it land. the first 100 people to show up will get a free lunch. the airbus a-380 from german airline is scheduled to land at sfo at 11:00 tomorrow morning. teachers are getting ready to march at the state capital. they are coming from all over the state to say stop the cuts. they have sacrificed enough already. 6:17 now. time for a check on the forecast. good morning, christina. >> good morning to you, marla. good morning to you at home. we have a nice looking week on tap with temps in the 70s all week long. we are going to warm up each and every day throughout thursday. you can see from the weather headlines a cool start. breezy all day long. the breezes pick up in the afternoon hours as they typically do. we don't have much in terms of cloud cover overhead now.

good marine layer is forming out in the ocean. it's actually offshore at this time. it will push into tomorrow. high pressure is firmly in control. it brings the temperatures from the 50s to the 70s later orn today, if you live in the city, a beautiful start to the day. 64 degrees. a little bit of haze over the bridges. you are not going to find the thick fog. breezy conditions remain. the seven day outlook shows you the temps in the 70s will be in the upper 70s by the middle of the week. a little bit of rain arrives in time for the weekend. that's a look at the weather, back to you. thank you very much. we are having a lot of fun in tiburon this morning. it doesn't matter how cold it is, i found out in the water because these guys just got out of it. i referenced them earlier. you are with the night train swimmers. what do you do? >> we swim for charities and do extreme swims all over the

world. these guys were training this morning in the bay here. we are going to go later in the day. it's a lovely 51 degrees in the water. >> are you kidding me? does it bother you at all being in the water that cold? i think that sums it up. no kidding, i'm kind of freezing here. jumping in that water, the first step has to be the toughest, yeah? >> the beginning is the toughest. half of it is mental. go in and count until 20. your hands become numb, your feet are numb and you gut it out. >> how often do you train? >> four or five times a week. >> no kidding? >> yeah. first 20 seconds i would say the first two minutes is the worst part. >> you keep coming back. >> we love the open water and the adventure. we come more and more and the swims are longer and longer.

things are fine. there's an accident reported off the roadway. a car went full speed into trees on the side of the road. the fire department arrived on the scene. three chp crews are going to head out there as well. watch for slowing heading into san ramon and i'll let you know if they are going to block any roads. the earlier disabled vehicle cleared from marina boulevard. actually smooth on the bridges crossing the water. that section north to the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights have been turned on. they have been on for five to six minutes. it's a slower build to the 880. chopper was there. they show the north bay and marin county. we'll send it back to marla where we have continuing coverage.

investigators say they are looking into and neighbors in oakley, they think it's suspicious. we want to check in with christie smith. she is live with the details. >> reporter: fire investigators are expected any minute to comb through this home to figure out how it started. i can tell you, it's gutted and the roof is gone. we are on bay view drive. there are strange circumstances here. the fire started about 11:00 last night and took an hour to knock down. i spoke with police this morning and they said there wasn't much inside the home. it's unclear why it burned so long. no one was home at the time. they say they have been called to this home several times before on domestic violence incidence. neighbors say the man has been at the home acti ining strangel removing appliances. we spoke with one neighbor abdomen the fire. >> i heard glass breaking and i don't know if they were arguing

mountain view. it's designed to reveal problems that could lead to an explosion like what happened in san bruno. crews are also venting a pipeline in antioch this morning. this is near highway 160. this evening, pg&e will hold a meeting in san bruno to talk about upcoming work to the disaster ware ya. it's scheduled for 5:30 tonight. teachers at the state capital. they will hold rallies, meetings and hand out literature to protest funding cuts. they say their schools have already been hit hard. classes are packed and teachers are working on their own time and dime to get things done. some districts cut school days. they say it's going to get worse if they can't get together to balance the budget. >> we are going to try to deliver the message that our kids deserve better. our state deserves better. they can do it. continue to do a balanced approach to the state budget.

>> right now, the state faces a budget gap of $15 billion. massive cuts have been made leaving lawmakers with options, fill the remaining hole by making deeper cuts to social services and other programs or extend a temporary tax set to expire in june. san mateo wants to cut back on prostitutes posing as massage therapis therapists. the county wants to ban massage therapists from wearing provocative clothing and limit business hours from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. good morning, laura. >> good morning. a beautiful day wo wake up in tiburon this morning. continuing to follow the day's news. we want to turn to sfo with

damian trujillo. it was a scary night for passengers headed from chicago to sfo on an american airlines flight. tell us about it. >> reporter: good morning, laura. quite a square for passengers on a flight from o'hare to sfo. a scuffle mid flight. it happened a half hour before the plane landed at san francisco international airport. a 28-year-old man with a yemeni passport ran toward the cockpit and was banging on the cockpit door on the flight to sfo. one called for back up after trying to force the man to his seat. another attendant and two passengers jumped in and tackled the suspect. they put him in plastic handcuffs and held him in first class until the plane landed safely. he was carrying a california id. he was taking to the county hospital with minor cuts then arrested on federal charges of

interfering with the flight crew. san francisco police sergeant michael rodriguez describes the scene for us, again. >> they were able to subdue the passenger, place him on the ground and use the flex handcuffs that the flight attendants have for these types of incidents. they were able to put the handcuffs on behind his back, conce him in a first class seat there and hold on to him there until they landed at sfo. >> reporter: the incident is the latest in a list of safety concerns. one was a chicago flight bound for st. louis. a passenger tried to reach the exit door midnight. another one had to be diverted toing baa ker key for what is called a security concern. as for this man, he is in the county jail at redwood city. police are trying to determine if he has ties to al qaeda or

the marine layer is so deep we are picking it up on the satellite. it's picking up offshore. you don't have to worry about the thick cloud cover. tomorrow it will be a concern. for today, we are looking good. high pressure is moving in. a mix of sun and clouds. cloudy intervals at times. the clouds increase through the second half of the day along with the winds. everything changes tomorrow. the full forecast is coming up in minutes. let's get you out the door with mike inouye. >> good morning, christine. a typical build up around the bay area bridge. slower than normal out of emeryville. a 20 minute drive off carquinez bridge. further slowing north. the metering lights are on. they were turned on about 6:15 this morning. it's five tor ten minutes earlier than we normally see. we'll give you a live look at oakland, 880. now, through this portion of the

east bay commute, you are fine past the coliseum. northbound on the right, southbound on the left. folks heading south through the area have the sun in their eyes south and to the east. keep that in mind. south from there, toward the san mateo bridge, speeds in the 40s as you are heading in toward hayward and the transition to the bay bridge. it moves smoothly. the caster valley is holding up nicely. following the accident on northbound 680. the off ramp might be closed. san ramon, take canyon as your alternate. heavier than we typically see on a monday. more folks on the road this morning. laura, back to you. >> thank you very much. we are going to talk to the as be lvedere and how the area is so unique. we are going to talk to the owners of the restaurant that's

joining me this morning is the mayor of tiburon and john is the mayor of belvedere. beautiful cities both. so thankful to you for having us out here this morning. we are getting people up early this morning. we appreciate it. what makes your town so unique? >> it's physically so beautiful. it's one of the most beautiful spots of the country, if not the world. look around, you can see it. it's what most residents love. the two cities work closely together. >> we do, indeed. with share the downtown and get along well. >> tell us about the importance of these cities for the sailors, visitors, the ferry service we have. >> the ferry service is unique. it's one of the few cities you can have a doughnut on the way to work and a beer on the way home. >> you have to love the bay area, too. the ferry service shuttling so many visitors to the area. >> no question about it.

killed this weekend. police say neighbors identified 37-year-old jason izenberg as the man responsible for killing two people before turning the gun on himself. >> fire agencies will start neighborhood patrols today as part of the wildfire awareness week. they are going to remind homeowners to trim vegetation and get rid of dried debris on rooftops. >> it's expected to be a nice monday. chilly start. christina joins us with a look at the forecast. >> hey, marla, how are you today? >> good. >> you look warm today. it's warm in the studio. if you are heading outdoors, grab a jacket. it's chilly out there. high pressure is in control of the pattern. this week, it's going to take a few days before the seasonal averages come to the bay. typically, we are in the mid-70s. today, low 70s. this week, thursday in particular, upper 70s. 52 degrees now in concord. it's mild out there when talking about the 50s.
