a car went over on its side. is tow truck was taking awhile. it's northbound toward the san mateo bridge. >> back to you. the vallejo man who rushed the pilots door. a plane has to make a quick landing after terrifying moments in the sky. two different stories are surfacing about the man police arrested. cheryl hurd is in vallejo where the suspect was staying with family. >> reporter: he's known to travel from coast-to-coast. he considered vallejo home because he has family here. no one knows why he rushed the cockpit. >> the pilot said we'll be landing in 30 minutes. a couple minutes later, a guy

was pacing toward the cockpit and screaming. >> reporter: she was sitting on the flight. he watched this man walk briskly down the aisle of the plane heading straight toward the cockpit. a fellow passenger told what he thought he said. >> i'm a speaker of arabic and it translates into a montra of god is great. passengers took him down, cuffed him. >> a group of us were nervous. a group of people were crying. it's emotional. it happens in one in a million flights. he has passport from yemen, a vallejo address. this man has the same name as

the passenger arrested. >> i know he didn't mean harm to anybody. he's not a terrorist or political. he's just a regular guy trying to feed his family. >> reporter: he says his cousin has a wife and two children in yemen. he attended school and tried to find work in new york to be closer to his brother. he didn't know his cousin was coming back to the bay area. >> it's blown out of proportion. i think he was trying to talk to someone. >> reporter: his cousin has a medical condition, rheumatoid arthritis and he has to walk around. in vallejo, cheryl hurd, today in the bay. >> the one arrested is in custody in a san mateo jail. he'll be charged with interfering with a flight

attendant. there could be more charges added at today's hearing. teachers all over the area will tonight their protest. they will be at local malls grading papers to show how much they work after kids go home in the afternoon. yesterday, some teachers marched on the state capital. it's tough to hear but they said education, not incarceration. they say they sacrificed enough. there's no more room for cuts. 65 demonstrators were booked after a sit-in in the rotunda. more demonstrations are expected throughout the week. a five-day nurses strike is over this morning. nurses are expected to return to work after protesting the hospital's change to benefits. the new rules require nurses to

pay more for health care if they want to use children's hospital for their children. otherwise, they get full coverage at kaiser. they have been negotiating for more than a year about the contract. a scheme to steal drugs from police evidence is out on jail. the prosecutor says he's dangerous to the public. he's accused of many things including threatening several people, stealing drugs, guns and cash from police evidence lockers. they say he may have used some of the stolen cash to post a $500,000 bail friday night. after 25 years of marriage, one of the most dynamic couples appears to be calling it quits. maria shriver and arnold schwarzenegger are separating. california's former first lady says she has moved out of their

from vaness to green street. crews expect to have power on to 2,000 people by 6:00. jaycee dugard is going to publish a book. it will be released in hard cover, an e-book and audio book as well that will be narrated by dugard herself. she only made it through fifth grade before she was kidnapped. the book tells the story of being held nearly 18 years in a shed in antioch. she talked about giving birth to two daughters. it's due out july 12th. it looks like microsoft could close a deal to buy skype. $8 billion price tag on this. for more, let's turn to sharita brantley who is live at cnbc

headquarters. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, scott. it's hinting at a positive open. stocks rallied. crude jumped $5 yesterday, but is a touch lower today below $102 a barrel. keep an eye on wholesale gas prices as flooding threatens gas refineries. asia was higher overnight and europe as well. we get data on wholesale trade. business travel is back. companies plan to send more people on the road. a new survey from get there finds 61% expect their travel budgets to increase between 1% and 10%. a year ago, only a third of managers had trouble in spending. business trips are necessary to make money, even as the cost of doing so goes up. with higher air fares and hotel

room rates. also, microsoft plans to announce today that it will buy skype for about $8 billion. skype has 124 million users each month. this will be the biggest deal for microsoft. we expect more news on that today. >> thank you much. uc berkeley narrowing down locations for the second campus. there are six finalists. alameda point, berkeley aquatic park. golden gate fields, richmond station and the sight on the emeryville-berkeley border. it's to consolidate the existing laboratory programs. the majority of the 4200 employees work on the main site in berkeley hills, 20% work in the east bay. a decision will be made by november. the mississippi river reached a record level.

the city fighting water for weeks. now the river crested at 48 feet. one emergency management official says it will take a few weeks before the crisis is over. >> all we can do now is let the water go down, try to keep people safe and patient. give them the assistance they need. this is going to be with us for another few weeks. >> downstream, the trouble just started. many people forced to move to higher ground. in louisiana, where the flooding has yet to hit, the army corps of engineers. >> enough water to if you want to wash your car, put it off. we will see enough rain to give your car a shine. temperature wise is really, really nice. we'll see the sunshine and stay
