our travels around the bay. we are waking up in beautiful castro valley this morning. we are actually on the sight of the rowell ranch rodeo grounds, helping to kick off the rodeo. it's going to happen this weekend. first, hoping for clear skies. i think it's in the forecast. check in with christina loren. >> good morning to you. fantastic riding weather for the weekend if you are going to be over there. we have a little fog before you ride out this morning. watch for reduced visible. we are looking clear elsewhere. mike and i are noticing the fog drifting into the east bay and the peninsula. take it easy. let's find out what you are facing on the roadways with mike. >> a lot more cars. livermore, a little slowdown into the area. in the 50s. a 15-minute drive, going to creep up to 16 over the next 20 minutes here.

we show laura and bob at the rowell ranch area. the travel times approaching the maze, no issues closer to the bay bridge. we look at oakland in example of the haze. a little bit of grayness to the skies there. the headlights are still on. we'll watch it as the traffic builds. the nimitz is running smoothly. back to you. >> thank you very much. we continue to watch the day's news as well. the latest on an investigation going on in oakland. one person is dead. i want to check in with christie smith with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. i spoke briefly with a neighbor on his way to work who said this was really loud, a lot of officers and helicopters buzzing overhead. this investigation is still going on this morning. the streets still blocked off. two people were shot. i spoke with one officer who tells me he heard one person

died and, in fact, a couple minutes ago, the coroners van arrived here. here is what we know. about 10:15 oakland police came to kern avenue near school street to serve search warrants or they got information something violent was going on. why the officers fired, police are not saying. they hit a third suspect. they say they recovered several weapons out here. it's unclear whether the suspects actually fired on the officers. the officers are okay. we are told that right now, oakland police are waiting to tow two cars out of here that were tied to the suspects. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you for the update. now for a look at the rest of the day's news i want to check

in with marla tellez filling in for me in the studio. you have news out of san bruno. a top washington official will be in the peninsula to oversee work being done on the pipeline. ray lahood will tour san bruno and south san francisco this afternoon. he wants to see the repair work done to the gas line that exploded last september. he will look at the hydrostatic testing. they are pressure testing the pipelines similar to ones in san bruno. meantime, pg&e is warning state regulators to not reduce gas pipe lyline pressure. service to customers will be impacted if the pressure is lowered. the public utilities commission asked them to lower the flow by 20% in ten of the pipelines. it will help prevent another explosion.

we know what killed the berkeley man who died while hiking yosemite falls. an autopsy shows the 34-year-old died from a heart attack and not from a fall last week. early reports ingested he may have tripped then hit his head on a rock. he was a popular sioux chef for san francisco's millennium restaurant. he was also an avid hiker. a memorial will be held for him next week in la fayette. the giants and dodgers square off today. there will be a heavy police presence. the l.a.p.d. was out in full force last night. police are still looking for the men who attacked him. his father and sisters are now talking about how difficult the past six weeks have been. >> it makes me sad. then, it makes me angry.

expect to see a heavier volume. it's unusual. you can't see past the freeway. 880 past the coliseum, a nice easy drive. both directions southbound with the headlights. midday, there's a 12:35 game. the as are playing the minnesota twins. you'll see crowds in the area as well. we are going to take a live shot with them. (g they are looking above the roadways because of the clouds rolling in. the north bay, coming in the golden gate bridge. the trash is about to get more expense in one peninsula city. they approved a 39% garbage rate hike. members of the council say they needed to increase it to bring down a $10 million debt they owe to a previous garbage hauler.

she got the run around when she tried to clear her name from tickets that were not hers. the software read the violators license plate wrong. it took weeks to resolve the issue. she entered it in there ought to be a law contest. >> i want to make sure people who are ticketed wrongly or incorrectly or in error have a way of responding and getting these things cleared up that's easy and not difficult. the state senate passed this idea. the bill requires the cameras be placed at intersections for safety reasons and not to generate more money. playboy magazine launches a new website today. it's called iplayboy.com. it's an archive of every issue from the last 57 years. the historical significant.
