well, good morning, everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. let's check a friday forecast with christina loren. good morning. >> good morning. not just a friday. a friday before a holiday weekend. yes. yes. we are excited about the holiday three-day weekend. this is going to be perfect for barbecuing. you'll be able to do them in the bay area. the full forecast is coming up in moments. 4:31. i have a lot of people on the road with me this morning, mike. it's busy out there. >> i think a lot of folks are getting out of town early. get out while the kids are still asleep. prepare for a different weather pattern. the speeds looking good. close to the limit here. overall t reds, yellow, and green. basically just green.

yellow that blips from time to time because of construction. we have one lane in either direction off 880 with construction remaining. back to you. >> thank you. the port of oakland moving forward with a plan to make the air cleaner to breathe. christie smith is live with a look at the change. it's going to let ships connection electrical power on shore, right? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, scott. the ships look like they are idling. what they are doing today is a major step forward toward cleaning the air. we are at apl at the port of oakland. what they are going to do is turn off their ships diesel power while they are here at port and connecting to power on shore. it's cleaner electric power. it's called cold ironing. air quality has been a major concern with people living in oakland with concerns of asthma

and pollution. this is backed by a $4.8 million grant. it's a partnership with the district. shore power could cut 50,000 pounds of nitrogen oxide. ships generally put out 500,000 pounds of toxins a year. they are going to start plugging in while they are here at port. we are going to look at that, coming up in the next hour. christie smith, today in the east bay. >> thank you. 4:33 now. state corrections officials about to change the way they monitor sex offenders. right now, parole agents view satellite print outs from ankle bracelets. internal report obtained by the associated press. next month, the companies that provide the bracelets will do the screening instead. they will forward the most

serious issues to parole agents to investigate. the agents won't waste their time responding to problems that turn out to be low batteries or dropped signals. a judge could release new information about a serial killer. that information would come from a legal document from the district attorney that lists probable charge for murder charges against the man. the marin county d.a. wants to keep the document sealed. the judge was supposed to make a ruling thursday but delayed it. he is acting as his own attorney in the case. three days and no verdict in the chauncey bailey murder trial. jurors will take the day off and head back on tuesday, after memorial day. bay accused of ordering the killing of bailey because bailey

was about to write an unflattering article about his family business. codefendant is accused of helping kill the journalist. the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to the jonestown massacre will go on as scheduled despite o motional outcry from some of the families. a judge decided not to block the ceremony at the cemetery where hundreds of jonestown victims are buried. some of the victims 'families objected because jim jones name is on the plaque. he led 500 people where they died in a mass suicide. three seniors at an east oakland high school had their lives cut short. the students' families still looking for answers. here is cheryl hurd.

>> i miss everything about my son. >> reporter: she says what she will miss most about christopher is seeing him graduate from high school next month. >> it's been hard for me and the girls. he was a part of our every day life. >> reporter: the 17-year-old senior was shot and killed in front of his mother on new year's eve. her only way of dealing with the pain is to move forward. she will take his cap and gown to graduation next month to celebrate his accomplishments and she will always wear his class ring. >> i know i will be sad. i would rather see christopher walk across the stage. it's something he wanted to do. >> reporter: it's a dark cloud hanging over the high school campus. three seniors will not graduate. two dead because of gun violence. one killed wednesday riding his bike a block away from home.

>> it's sad how innocent people get caught in the middle of things. >> i'm a senior. >> reporter: also caught in the middle, classmates left behind. she has a 3.3 grade point average. she says it's hard to concentrate. >> it's hard seeing them trying and knowing we have work to do and every day we losing someone else. >> that was cheryl hurd reporting. the students and family, three seniors, oakland high school student -- i'm sorry. i think we lost in the newscast where we are. b.a.r.t. will arm every police officer with stun guns. the b.a.r.t. board approved the $140,000 purchase yesterday. b.a.r.t. will make sure officers are familiar with the tasers.

consultants recommended buying more tasers after a shooting. he thought he was reaching for his taser but accidentally fired his gun instead. >> let's check in with christina. we have a three-day or some people a four-day weekend coming up. >> some people are going to miss you when you're gone. not saying any names, but this girl. satellite radar shows the storm tracker stays to the north. what i'm expecting this morning, which we haven't had for a couple days, a thick, dense marine layer. we are going to see the marine intrusion. throughout the afternoon, high pressure clears the skies. this morning, when you are waking up in the east bay, it's not that cold. 52 in livermore. 56 in hayward. 55 in oakland. we are headed toward the 70s. at noon, we break for lunch. here is the extended forecast. actually, we're going to get to it in a minute.

somebody is going to help you get to your destination, whether work or travel, mike inouye. >> i'm going miss scott as well. let's look to antioch where travel moves nicely. it's friday before a vacation weekend. eastbound we have the full closure as you might expect. that continues for a couple more weeks going on through mid june. keep that in mind. clearing up by 5:30. a couple days ago, it lasted until 7:30 in the morning. the carquinez and benicia bridge is running smoothly. this route or 580, keep that in mind, highway 50 reopened at the summit. a live look at the bay bridge. the traffic is moving smoothly. the lower deck flashing lights may be a bridge approaching the s curve. there's weekend construction, keep that in mind.

the oakland side, a couple lanes open overnight. the bridge will remain open. >> thank you much. this morning, secretary of state, hillary clinton making a visit to pakistan. clinton says the u.s. is committed to working with and supporting pakistan but she makes it clear pakistan must get rid of safe havens for militants else risk losing billions of dollars in aid. meantime, the president approved a four-year extension of the patriot act overnight. they approved the measure late last night with minutes to spare before the deadline. three terror fighting tools are extended for four years including roving wiretaps of suspected foreign agents. business records that could be linked to terrorist threats and surveillance of nonamerican suspects. colling up an east bay

4:33. she says take one and they do. oakland city leaders met with department heads late into the night to crunch the numbers for the city budget crisis. today in the east bay joe talks about it. >> african-americans have lost their history over the years. there's a lot of history we dn know about. >> reporter: the history is living within the walls of the african-american museum. >> we have the first african-american teacher, the first african-american judge, their papers. >> reporter: located in downtown oakland. >> if you want to write a book, you can come here and use our archives as reference. >> reporter: now the museum could become history itself.

it's among 15 oakland libraries that would close under a proposal by the oakland mayor. >> to put it in a warehouse would be a nightmare. a total nightmare. we need this home for our history. >> reporter: the scenario is one of three floated by the mayor to save the city $50 million. she hopes to avoid the cuts with a different solution. >> both the employees contribute and the council puts a tax on the ballot and it passes. >> reporter: the city already cut 500 jobs and 20% of city funds. there's not a lot left. we have to cut the services we would never cut. >> reporter: community members are waging their battle to keep the library open. members of code pink will meet

it's slippery. >> all right. that's what you should not do, go to the basement. the man and another person took shelter in an oil bay. the wind hurled the glass you heard. this is just southwest of oklahoma city. christina, i grew up in the midwest. at least two times i remember an actual tornado. we went to the basement once a summer because of alerts. >> you know the sounld you heard there, the high-pitched sound was the actual tornado, not the alarm going off. when you hear them coming, it sounds like a freight train coming at you. they have a sound that accompanies. it's a scary, scary event.

severe thunderstorms are really, really hard to forecast where the tornado's path will be. it looks like the east will get more. patchy fog is all we are dealing with this morning. it may slow down the travel plans. the densest fog is about to develop at 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. low 70s, great weekend to be outdoors. a lot of you have a three-day weekend. the only difference between yesterday and today is more clouds to start you out. we have a good formation up the marine layer. it's going to push inland. by noon, the sun will come out and warm us up from the 50s where we are now. to the 70s. a nice looking day on tap. cooler in fremont. 70 in concord. 70 in livermore today. if you are headed to work in the city, bring a jacket with you. it's going to be breezy and cooler in san francisco and
