75th anniversary. they plan the celebration this morning. officials say they will hold a press conference at the headquarters to discuss details of the celebration. it opened for business on may 27th, 1937. today's press conference will take place at 10:00 this morning. the vallejo man charged of causing a disturbance on a flight will go to court today. he will enter a not guilty plea. he shows signs of mental health issues. the 28-year-old man was tackled by passengers when he rushed the cockpit door of an american airlines flight. sherrif's deputies recovered dozens of guns from a february home invasion robbery. 20 handguns and 40 rifles were seized from an apartment. they arrested six people.

all six are accused of tieing up a gilroy man in february and torturing him before stealing guns and other items from his home. there's fall out from a shooting. b.a.r.t. voted to equip all the officers with stun guns. they currently have 60 stun guns. yesterday's vote authorized the purchase of another 130. once the officers are trained, they will all be expected to carry the weapons. it's a result of the shooting death of oscar grant in 2009. the officer claimed he thought he was using his taser on grant, not his gun. the move is intended to make all officers more comfortable with the weapons. california is closer to passing a bill in the controversial federal program. the california assembly approved a bill to allow counties to opt

out of the secure communities program. under the program, the fingerprints of anyone booked into a jail are run through immigration data base. two counties asked the federal government to opt out. the bill now heads to the senate. expect a lot of traffic on bay area roads today as people head out for a long holiday weekend. if you are going to be in and around san francisco expect delays. marla tellez is live at the b.a.r.t. station on 12th street in oakland. what can we expect? >> you can expect a whole lot of changes and probably a lot of delays as you mentioned. good morning, everybody. b.a.r.t. and bay bridge planning significant work this weekend that could impact your memorial day weekend plans. let's start with b.a.r.t. b.a.r.t. is shutting down the trub to take care of cables on

the track. riders can face up to 20 to 40 minute delays. this is all happening sunday and monday for the most part. impact sunday and monday until 2:30 in the afternoon. take a listen. if you are traveling from any san francisco or peninsula station toward dublin or fremont, take a pittsburgh bay point bound train to cross the bay then transfer at the 12th street station in oakland where we are this morning to a dublin or fremont train. same for san francisco or the peninsula. tough transfer at the 12th street station in oakland. also, keep in mind, monday, b.a.r.t. will run on a sunday schedule for the holiday. eastbound drivers will feel an impact this weekend as you approach the oakland side.

cal trans is doing a realignment project. you can expect lanes to be shifted to the south as you make your way to the lower deck. officials say eastbound lanes will be closed tomorrow and sunday night as well bottom line, laura, this weekend, no matter where you are, check the b.a.r.t. schedule before you head out and pay attention to the roadway signs on the bridge so you don't veer off and cause accidents out there. be safe. >> there you go. always good advice. thank you very much. recovery efforts continue in joplin this morning. they are looking for 230 people missing following sunday's deadly tornado. brian mooar is live with more. good morning. >> reporter: hi, laura. this gives you an idea of the first steps of the recovery effort people are going to face

in joplin. 232 people officially listed as unaccounted for or missing. they have the slightest ray of hope here. they are saying some of those people might not be missing after all. they contacted at least a dozen people who are alive and well. one elderly lady was sitting on the porch holding on to her cat when the storm rolled through. one other simply lost her cell phone. officials say they believe some in that number of 232 missing may be in the number of dead. 126 officially at this point. officials are hoping to continue that search for people. they hope the death toll will not go up or will not go up much. it will be a huge, huge recovery effort. >> i can't imagine starting that clean up. thank you for the latest. getting to our forecast, mild in comparison. we want to check it with

christina. >> good morning to you. it's mild and it's not going to rain over the course of the weekend. if you want to get outside for a barbecue and hit the beach, you'll be able to. a cloudy start is what we are expecting this morning. i'm watching the marine layer get deeper and push inland as we speak. mostly cloudy start for the bay area. it will push inland. liver moor seeing it. 56 degrees in hayward, 48 in sunnyvale. we are headed toward the 70s in the warmer locations across the bay. livermore will likely hit 70 degrees. by noon, in the 60s. take a look at this. clouds linger along the peninsula. it's not going to be that warm there. 65 is the high in san francisco. i have your holiday weekend extended forecast coming up. stay tuned for that. if you are getting out the door,

gems and bob redell found one of them. what do you have for us? >> reporter: we are back in concord. good morning to you. the may around the bay tour wraps up for the month. mount diablo is here. we know what it looks like from the outside. what about the inside? we came close with this underground tour, court see of east bay parks. >> really feel like you are in a different world. >> if you were a geologist, you would know this kind of sand stone is indicative of certain areas. >> reporter: this kind of sanld, so pure, they made glass with it. why not go to the beach? >> this is high quality. >> reporter: it's in antioch inside the silica mine. i'm trying to remember the date? >> 1930s and 1940. >> reporter: this mine was 1920?

a lot of movement going on. it's a real who'd of thunk kind of place. standing on top, taking a look at wild flowers, knowing below you, 90 feet is a huge gap in geology. look at the place. no way of knowing you are underground. >> reporter: laura, the east bay regional parks district offers tours of the silica mine saturdays and sundays march through november. they will be shutting down june 17th through july 15th for maintenance. then they will be back open. it's something else. it's fascinating. you probably didn't know this, not only do they mine sand in that area but coal. >> so interesting. >> reporter: there's a lot of stuff i couldn't include in the piece because it would have been too much time.

the sensor is woken up the eastbound direction. everybody wants to get away early for the weekend. there we go. highway 4 moving smooth. we'll get a live look and see oakland. a lot more cars than we typically see this morning. back to you. >> all right. a major blow for the san francisco police department this morning. san francisco prosecutors are expected to dismiss 26 felony cases in court this morning due to allegations of officer misconduct. public defender plans to reveal new evidence against officers that shows illegal searches, theft and perjury. they revealed some of the evidence dense to the media. video taken shows officers entering empty handed and leaving with evidence that was never booked into evidence.

inside the mind of a suspected serial killer. a judge could release new information about suspected serial killer joseph. it would come from a document that lists probable cause for the murder charges. the d.a. wants to keep the document sealed. the judge was supposed to make a decision on monday but delayed the ruling to today. he's accused of killing four women including two during the '70s and the '90s. he's acting as his own attorney in the case. this morning in an effort to cut containers, the port of oakland is going green. cool how it all works. christie smith is live at the port of oakland with more on the story. oh, look at that hard hat. only you could make it look good. >> reporter: isn't it fancy. happy friday to you. we normally don't get access like this. we are on a container ship in

the port of oakland. they are going green. normally, when you see the ships in port, they are using a diesel generator. there are pollutants going into the air. what they are doing now is plugging in and using electricity when they are in the port. these two things right here, this is really the key to it all. that is where the electricity goes from a generator they have built here with pg&e. it runs in there and plugs into the ship. when they are here, no more diesel generator. here with me this morning the captain george. good morning. >> morning. >> reporter: can you walk us through this? it's like the boat is a prius. it's electric when it's here and you have a generator here from pg&e. how did you do this? >> the installation was done in singapore over the course of a

month last july. the system itself is complicated. basically, it starts at the power grid pg&e installed on the dock. the cable comes to the side of the ship, runs up the side of the ship to a cable reel, which all this technology is new and specifically designed for this ship. it runs across to a junction box or distribution box down into the engine room and basically the heart of the system is a 6,600 volt transformer. huge transformer. >> reporter: basically when it's here, how much power do you need in terms of how many homes would it power? >> about 2,000 kilowatts which is about 1,000 homes. there's refrigerated cargo containers. the whole objective is what you need to know about. it's the reduce marine pollut t

murder. $100,000 reward offered in the case. tonight's vigil is at the library starting at 6:30. the man accused of gunning down a community leader may not be competent to stand trial. two out of three court appointed doctors determined the 58-year-old cannot aid in his own defense against potential capital murder charges. he's accused of following a childhood friend to the mall and shooting him in the parking lot. the slaying went unsolved for months until he called police. the hearing is set for june 23rd. gun violence continues in oakland that ended the life of an 17-year-old boy. franklin was shot and kills wens afternoon. witnesses say he was riding his bike, possibly on his way home

from school before he was gunned down. he was two weeks away from graduating castlemont high school. one in three. hardball sttistics. 5:36. expect lots of traffic today. if you are headed in or out of san francisco this weekend, expect delays. today in the bay's marla tellez live at the b.a.r.t. station at 12th and oakland. what can we expect? >> reporter: quite a bit of delays whether on the road or taking b.a.r.t. we are outside the b.a.r.t. station. this is going to be a key station for you, if you are a b.a.r.t. rider, depending on where you are traveling to and from. b.a.r.t. is shutting down to take care of crucial maintenance and repair work. we talked to a b.a.r.t. spokesman. he said riders can expect up to a 40-minute delay. it will be felt sunday and monday from 8:00 to 2:30.

>> the most important thing is for the riders and what they do. the riders most impacted are the dublin and fremont line riders. when i say dublin and fremont, i mean people getting on or off at all stations from dublin and fremont all the way up to lake merit. >> reporter: now, when i said 8:00 to 2:30, that's 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. sunday and monday. if you are traveling from a san francisco or peninsula station toward dublin or fremont take a pittsburg train to cross the bay, then transfer at this station in oakland. the same goes for those leaving dublin bound for san francisco or the peninsula. you have to transfer at this station in oakland. best advice is to check b.a.r.t. listings before you go anywhere. eastbound drivers, you can expect detours and lane closures this weekend.
