camera shaking a tad bit from the hayward side across the bay. the camera trembles from time to time. chp has not called in an advisory yet. back to you. >> thank you very much. the mayor of east palo alto is promising the shooter over the weekend will be caught. we are live in east palo alto this morning for the latest on the search for the gunman. >> reporter: good morning, authorities are hoping to do everything they can to find whoever is responsible for this shooting that killed an infant boy and seriously injured that child's parents. i want to show you sketches of who authorities believe is responsible. the first is a hispanic male in mid teens to early 20s, weighing 120 to 130 pounds.

he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt at the time of the shooting. the second is a hispanic male in his early 20s. 5'9" to 5' 10." authorities say the two men fired multiple shots leaving a baby shower on wisteria drive here in east palo alto before 1:00. the parents, 3-year-old child and 3-month-old son were all in the car. the parents, both 22 years old suffered gunshot wounds. the victims are former residents of east palo alto. he called the suspects a significant threat to the community. take a listen. >> clearly, any shooting is a

tragedy. when it's a child, especially a 3-month-old child, it strikes the hearts of the community. we are going to find you and you are going to be held accountable. >> you are looking at sketches of the two men authorities believe are responsible for the shooting. witnesses saw the men firing at the car, then running away from the scene. the infant's parents are expected to survive the shooting and the 3-year-old child was not injured. police are doing everything they can to find whoever is responsible. they say they have good leads at this point. again, no arrests have been made. if you have any information, you are asked to contact authorities. live in east palo alto. >> just so tragic. thank you so much. funeral services will be held friday for two san francisco firefighters who died in the line of duty. he was a former member of the

u.s. marine corps. anthony died saturday, two days after the fire. he was a 14-year veteran of the department. a flash over hit them. it's when fire ignites, reaching temperatures of more than 1,000 degrees. a third suffered smoke inhilation but was treated and released. the family of a missing nursing student is asking the fbi to take over the investigation. good morning. >> good morning, michelle is still missing more than a week after she disappeared on a break from kaiser permanente in hayward. the police department is too under staffed to take on the case. they say it took days for officers to search her apartment and it will take two weeks to process evidence from her car. they are committed to finding

her and working on leads that aren't being released publicly. police are trying to figure out how a body wrapped in a plastic bag ended up in a front yard. it was found on ticonderoga and pome avenue. officers say they saw blood coming out of the bag and a body inside it. they did not open the bag, but called the coroner. the coroner is working to identify the body and the cause of death. that's the latest from here at 5:05. back to you. thank you. deputies are asking for your help to find a man that pose eds a pest control worker. he pretended to take soil

samples and forced his way inside a home of a 73-year-old woman. he stole jewelry and fled in a white cargo van. if you have information, call the sheriff's department. come to the table. that is what four of san jose's unions are telling city leaders. they want to talk about reforming pensions now. the unions argue after months, the city put the talks on hold. damian trujillo is live in san jose with the latest for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. there's no one inside san jose city hall, not at 5:00 in the morning. the unions set up shop. they set up a table and a huge banner. they are asking city leaders to come to the table. come inside and we'll talk about pension reform now. they met with city leaders on friday to discuss reforming pension programs. instead, the city told them they have to hold off on the talks

until they can come up with ballot language on those reforms. they voted to put a proposal on the november ballot. san jose is trying to bridge a budget gap. another big deficit is expected next year. the unions representing 600 workers say why wait? let's talk about reform right here, right now. >> this rv invites them to come right across the street and begin negotiations at our table. we are 150 steps from the front door. >> reporter: these are unions representing architects and engineers, mid level managers and maintenance supervisors. we left a message for the director of employee relations for the city of san jose. we sent him an e-mail as well. at 4:00 in the morning, not sure if he'll have access to the

e-mails. we are live, i'm damian trujillo, today in the bay. >> it will be interesting to see. we'll have you all morning long out there to see if anyone comes out. 5:07 now. today, the supreme court could issue a ruling on banning the sale of violent video games to children. california is one of a number of states restricting what video games children can buy. they struck down the law in 2009 saying children and teens have free speech rights. the author will hold a news conference in san francisco. pg&e tested sections of natural gas lines in newark over the weekend. pg&e is checking 150 miles of ageing pipelines throughout the state similar to the one that

it's 5:22 now. relief may be coming for drivers along the busy exit of highway 101. they are recommending setting aside $24 million in state bonds to realign the ramps on the capital expressway exit. one of the likely improvements, a ramp northbound 101 to allow traffic to enter the highway before the expressway. the newfound cash comes from savings on the 2008 bond measure. the work is expected to begin a year from now. it will be a big improvement. >> that's true. we are hoping for that area to improve. this is telly and capital. as we zoom in, you can see the slowing. it's the 42 off capital expressway.

it's monday, june 6th. this is today in the bay. good monday morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. we are going to get to the top stories in a moment. first, a look at the forecast with christina loren. >> that's what folks are going to be talking ability. all the rain we had over the weekend, we'll go over the totals and who got hit the hardest. you are going to like the forecast. it's coming up in moments. let's get you to work now. good morning, mike. >> good morning, christina. the rain calmed down quite a bit since the weekend. we are looking at livermore, 580 with slowing, 15 minutes out of the altamont pass and toward the dublin interchange. the construction picked up from the eastbound side. speeds upper 50s.

it's good news. we'll see the change over the next ten to 15 minutes. chp has an official advisory for winds on the bay bridge. it could be gusty at times. >> 5:30 now. this morning, the family of a missing nursing student is getting frustrated. >> reporter: she was last seen on may 27th, around 7:00 p.m. she was heading toward her car to take a break and hasn't been seen since. her family is getting frustrated with what they see as an investigation gone wrong. the family received only few updates about the 26-year-old nursing student. her apartment was not searched

until four days after she disappeared. police indicated it would take weeks to get results back from her car. they believe it would go quicker if the fbi were involved. the family says we have been assured they have personnel working around the clock yet only six personnel are assigned to the team and three of them recently went on vacation. they contacted the fbi early on in the investigation and used some of their resources and served search warrants and working on many leads not made public. they are committed to solving the case. >> thank you very much, christie. oakland detectives are busy investigating three separate shootings. a man from vallejo is in critical condition after being shot in a parking lot across the

street from maxwell's lounge in oakland. just before that, a 52-year-old man was injured in a separate shooting in a drive way on 90th avenue. in the meantime, saturday, a 51-year-old man was shot and killed on high street. police are offering rewards leading to the arrest of the shooters. now, to the peninsula where a 3-month-old baby is dead, tragically caught in gunfire. now, the search is on for the suspected gunmen. the shooters fired at the family as they were getting into their car on wisteria drive around 1:00 yesterday morning. the father shot in the shoulder and mother in the back as she was trying to shield her children from the bullets. both are expected to recover. a 3-year-old boy in the car was not injured. take a look at these sketches.

police say they are the men that sprayed the bullets into the car. they were wearing dark hoodies and beany hats. a wildfire in arizona continue to burn this morning. marla tellez is live in the news room with an update. a wildfire is burning near bakersfield. more than 350 acres have burned so far in kern county, east of bakersfield. a couple nearby communities have been evacuated including dutch john flats. predicted thunderstorms are feared because hundreds of abandoned gold mines are in that area. the key fire, as it's been named is 10% contained. in arizona, a huge wildfire could grow because of a windy forecast and expected lightning

storm. there's no containment on the fire near the new mexico border. so far, it's burned 184,000 acres and forced the evacuation of 2200 people. authorities ordered more residents to evacuate yesterday. 1300 firefighters are fighting the flames. it's deemed the third largest fire in history. it's coming as far from oregon and new york. i was in new mexico over the weekend and that smoke made its way there. >> zero containment so far. >> scary. >> up against a lot there. thank you for the update. this morning, several city union representatives are camped across from city hall ready to discuss pension reform. damian trujillo is live in san jose with the latest. a unique way they are doing it.

>> reporter: it really is. good morning. it's dawn at san jose city hall. city leaders are in for quite a sunrise when they walk into work on monday morning. look what's awaiting them. they parked this rv in front of city hall. it will stay here, staffed, 24/7 inviting city leaders to come talk about pension reform. they have been pushing for the talks for more than a year. now, they put the talks on hold until they can come up with the ballot language. they voted to put a pension reform on the november ballot. the unions are saying let's talk now. to make it easy on city negotiators, they are inviting them to come in and continue talking about reforming pensions. >> we are here. we are going to be here 24/7. we have actual numbers that have

grandfather used to work. he's told that story over and over as he visits iowa and new hampshire. he's headed there this week. south carolina, he's been there 16 times ramping up the campaign. the big issue in the upcoming debate, which is going to be next week among the gop candidates is going to be the economy. we saw the numbers come out on friday. not good. 54,000 jobs created. republicans will continue to hammer the obama administration and campaign on those numbers. he said he'll participate in the debate next week. interestingly, so has michele bachmann. >> and sarah palin, not yet, either, right? >> that's right. she's on a bus tour, then saying she's 50/50 so far in declaring whether she's run for president. we are waiting to hear from her. >> exactly.

we have heard enough about paul revere from her, thank you very much. the jury will return to deliberations this morning. jurors did not deliberate on friday. the 12 men and women are trying to decide if the former community leader ordered the murder of the three men. mackey is charged with helping in all three murders. jurors have been deliberating for almost three weeks now. mayor jean kwon is on hand to introduce a new communication system. it will make it easier for police to communicate with the fire department during emergencies. several times during the past year, police units had to use their cell phones instead of radios because of glitches in the system.

2500 cyclists are riding to los angeles this morning trying to raise money. on june 5th, 1981, the federal government released a report documenting the first cases of what became known as aids. >> in san francisco alone, two new infections aday. make sure you get tested and raise the awareness. cyclists are expected to reach los angeles by the end of the week. this year's ride is expected to raise $13 million for aids research. >> it's 5:46 now. prom night is a night to remember. for one high school couple, theirs was a prom night that almost wasn't. james at a time put up foot high card board letters to ask his date to the prom.

it's going to clear things out. as of today, mostly sunny conditions. we'll be back in the mid 70s. a big time change in the overall pattern as the system of low pressure finally heads out of here. it sat and spun along the coast. san francisco picked up over an inch of rain. major records broken. now, all things will turn more tranquil around here as high pressure moves in. you can see how it's taken over the ridge of high pressure. it's going to keep the storm track well to the north. what we are getting is in the south bay and moving out. by noon, mostly clear conditions over the entire bay area. potential for pop-up thunderstorms. we could see a little bit of light precipitation come through. it's clearing out of here nice.

since taking a leave of absence. >> good morning. apple is expected to kick off the worldwide developer conference with a keynote speech from steve jobs on i-cloud, a way to store music and data up in the cloud on music and servers. it will free up space on your laptop and ipod. it kicks off at 10:00. we'll have updates on the web and twitter. as for jobs, as far as the country is concerns, the news is not good. the latest jobs report was very, very sluggish. the nationwide unemployment rate going to 9.1% despite the job growth in the silicon valley. if you leave the bay area, the picture doesn't look that good. let's bring it back to the bay area for the cutest story of the

week. this is a 7-year-old of san bruno. this is the young man who beat out 107,000 other people to win the nationwide google doodle contest. we caught up with him as he got to tour campus and meet the doodlers for the first time. on top of that, he won an all expense paid trip for him and his family to alabama and the space camp. it was given to him by a real life astronaut. the big story this week kicking off this morning with apple in san francisco. we'll be there withes u apdllat morning long. back to you. >> we look forward to that. stick around. beth!
