accident, a minor accident sounds like involving three cars maybe just past the toll plaza. we don't see slowing at the plaza itself. it's only 6:00 and on a friday a light flow. low clouds, so far the approach is moving nicely. again a new accident just reported. in the city, some video from last night, actually. we had muni problems, major problems with the electric system as some lines were taken down. that caused huge problems yesterday. we still have muni lines for the n-judah and j-church. expect delays because the bus bridges are heading over the streets. i also hear that they are testing the lines, we may have good news coming up during the show. the muni lines hopefully will be restored. so far expect delays for the n-judah and j-church running bus bridges, still have electrical issues. >> we'll keep checking with you. thank you. 6:01. this morning family and friends of missing nursing student

michelle le are holding on to hope she is out there somewhere. and they need your help to find her. today in the bay's christie smith is live with more on the details of the next search for the 26-year-old. >> reporter: good morning, laura. you can certainly sympathize with michelle le's family. police have come out and said that they fear the worst, that this is likely a homicide case. but there is no body and for her family no conclusion, so they are asking volunteers to come here today and starting at 8:00 this morning on cypress avenue, and begin a three-day search for her. for the young nursing student who vanished three weeks ago. she went on break to the parking garage at kaiser medical center in hayward and hasn't been seen since. police questioned at least 25 people, searched the niles canyon area but so far nothing. le's family wants her back, they say if this was your sister or daughter or cousin you wouldn't give up. >> our family's goal is to reach

out to the public help and support to locate and finally bring michelle home to us. >> reporter: the group class kids is helping with the search. volunteers can come to 25350 cypress avenue in hayward between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 today, saturday and sunday. you want to volunteer, wear long pants and long sleeve shirts and closed toed shoes. there is a phone number if you want more information. you have to be 18 with valid i.d., they are going to reveal the search location after volunteers are trained. reporting live in hayward, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you. 6:03. in days the suspect in the brutal beating of giants fan bryan stowe could walk out of jail a free man. attorneys for the suspect giovanni ramirez are going door to door to businesses hoping to find surveillance video from march 31st.

lawyers are targeting businesses close to the comfort inn where ramirez was reportedly staying the weekend of the beating. lawyers are trying to prove that ramirez was not at the ballpark the day stowe was beaten. and they say ramirez did not look like the man in the police sketches at the time of the beating. >> formally because there is no case for businesses to preserve their videos. hopefully we can show him on april 1st, the day after the game with hair because everyone agrees that the person who did this had a shaved head. >> ramirez has not been charged with the beating but has been held in jail for parole violation. his parole hearing is coming up on monday. >> this morning a bay area woman is guilty of killing and torturing her 15-year-old niece. the trial is not over yet. on tuesday courts decide if mental illness drove shemeeka davis to beat and starve her niece and twin brother for years. she was given custody of the

twins when they were born. she hit them and pulled them out of school. the surviving twin successfully sued the san francisco human services agency for $4 million. >> we have new information this morning in the case of a san jose woman killed and dumped in a sunnyvale neighborhood earlier this month. a court document shows the man accused you saw him briefly, confessed to police during questioning. 47-year-old santiago is charged with murdering maria esther orosco. in addition to the confession police say that they have physical evidence linking santiago to the crime. >> this morning california fire chief say there could be more grass fires. heavy rains led to a bumper crop of wild plants which can fuel wild fires.

statewide 400 fires have broken out across the state than the same time last year. extra moisture means the fires can be put out quickly. right now fire chiefs meet in southern california to plan for $46 million in budget cuts. >> california lawmakers reeling from what no california governor has done before. jerry brown vetoed the budget plan approved by democrats yesterday. angering members of both parties. in a message the governor said the plan didn't go far enough and included questionable legal maneuvers. critics say the timing is suspect. >> the timing is not pure coincidence. legislators have a way of being able to take care of their own. >> brown is warning that if republicans do not compromise on tax extensions and authorize a special election to put the question to voters, education and public safety will have to be slashed further.

republicans are pushing for pension reform, a spending cap and changes to help california business. >> new numbers show the so-called distressed homes made up more than half of california's retail housing market. that includes foreclosures and short sales. relief has arrived for many struggling to stay in their homes. marla is live close to the san jose convention center where people are lining up for help. we're seeing the crowd grow out there. >> reporter: yes, laura. despite much chillier temperatures today, there's a cold breeze here, you can look for yourself. dozens of people are lined up already. we're at the south hall, part of the san jose convention center around the corner on south market. allen is giving you a live look at how long this line extends. the event doesn't start until 8:00 this morning and already this is how long the line is. these people, they are here hoping to get some help for

mortd payments to get payments reduced, interest rates reduced. i spoke to a single mom, second in line. she lives in carmel valley. she cannot afford her home. she has been here since 8:00 last night. she spent the night. she hopes it pays off. this event is called the save the dream tour. hosted by naca. the event has a 50% success rate, meaning more than half of its attendees get their lower mortgage payments, reduced by hundreds of dollars and they get lower interest rates, often on the same day just by showing up. how it works is naca teams up with lenldsers to process and approve the solutions, hundreds of staff from the loan companies and counselors are expected to be on hand. i also spoke to the person first in line, mike marly drove here from vacaville.

bay area temperatures again, the man accused of kidnapping and raping jaycee dugard is waking up in state prison, steps away from one of the most notorious criminals, talking about phillip garrido now an inmate at state prison in the protective housing unit. the unit is long time home of cult killer charles manson. garrido was placed in the unit because prison guards did not think he would be safe in the general population. his wife nancy is also behind bars at state prison this morning. she began serving her sentence wednesday at the women's facility. >> this morning a guilty plea from a man accused of using a shoe camera to take lewd pictures of women. nicholas springer of san rafael has been sentenced to 20 days in jail for peeping under women's skirts. his lawyers say springer will ask to serve the time on a county work program instead of

in jail. springer is banned from visiting the fairfax and marin farmers markets. >> five fires in two weeks. one neighborhood is on edge after a string of mysterious fires. firefighters are investigating the fires that have threatened homes in antioch. the fires are set in dry grassy areas between homes and a park along with walking paths. some homeowners say they have been dealing with threatening fires for three years. a fire last week did burn property on one of the homes. police say they are stepping up patrols to find the arsonist. >> certainly dry, hot conditions cannot help with fire conditions but we're getting a cooling trend this weekend. >> you know, i wouldn't be surprised if we start looking for fire weather, red flag warnings next week. high pressure setting back up over the area. we see the offshore flow over the bay area. that's what we expect next week.

this is what we're watching for you. you can see pretty good formation of the marine layer pushed almost all the way inland. mostly cloudy skies to start pretty much across the bay area. we'll lose so much of that cloud cover early on. we're headed to a gorgeous day. and then high pressure warms us up into next week. our temperatures climbing. toward triple digit territory. first official week of summer. high pressure strong out here in the eastern pacific. you can see the clouds arcing up and around the ridge. it's going to drift to the bay area. through the weekend, we have a couple of cool days first. we see this trough came through overnight. that's pulling in that cool marine air kicking in onshore flow. when we see off shore flow that really dry warm air, the downsleeping winds when we start to put up our antennas for fire weather. as of next week we're going to start watching. for today we're looking pretty good. temperatures ranking mostly between the low to mid 70s along the peninsula, then upper 70s inland.

we head throughout tomorrow, a little bit of a drop-off. a couple of degrees cooler. we'll start with more cloud cover tomorrow morning. hence, we won't get as warm tomorrow afternoon. as you head throughout the weekend, temperatures continue to drop off. probably through saturday. but sunday they start to climb. this is what we're looking at for today. mostly cloudy, 60 degrees. mostly cloudy at noon. only in san francisco. elsewhere we're looking okay. we're going to clear out by 4:00 p.m. 67 degrees. i think it's going to take to about 10:00 a.m. for san jose and east bay cities. highs today, pretty comfortable. especially when you consider we were in the 90s earlier this week. 79 in livermore, 78 today in fairfield and 79 degrees in gilroy. here it is, your father's day outlook. it's looking good. 79 degrees sunday, 86 by monday. and then we sky rocket tuesday through thursday. back to you. >> thank you very much. a light bulb has been burning

bright for more than a century. bob shows us the little light and how an east bay city is going to let it shine. >> reporter: your average light bulb lasts maybe 3 to 5 years depending how much you use it. darn it. ouch. but, here, at fire station number 6, in livermore, california is the light bulb that seems will never go out. how long has the bulb been burning for? >> it will be 110 years this summer. needed a time line on what's transpired. >> reporter: you go back quite a distance on this time line. >> we put a man on the moon? to get back to 1901. when this slelbelight bulb was give tune the livermore fire department for use as a night light. >> always the first question is it still burning? >> reporter: the real burning question is, why? >> it has lasted so long.

>> reporter: to find out the protecters of the light bulb have sent an identical bulb to the u.s. naval academy. >> professor, do we have any idea why this bulb is still burning? >> so, part of why i think it's still on is because it is still on. because people haven't been turning it on and off. >> reporter: the bulb was turned off once for around 10 minutes in 1976, when it had to be removed from its original location. what used to be the main fire house in downtown livermore. >> it's been on ever since. >> another factor is it is only giving off about 4 watts, that's really low. >> my hunch i believe it's in the filament. >> the bulb we have is eight times thicker. >> they don't make light bulbs like they used to. >> no. >> they have just a beautiful

as you know, apple's iphone android rim just can't keep up. shares in pandora fell well below their ipo price on thursday, closing at $12.85. the early investor lost money. the venture capitalists that got in early made millions. guy kawasaki got a pitch from pandora and was one of the first to sink money in the company 10 years ago. >> when they pitched us they used this really great term. it's a lesson for many entrepreneurs. they said we're going to find the music genome. you just hear music and genome you think wow. this has got to be a cool company. e' wal we' t glltonk ouyal "pr here" on sunday.

student michelle le will begin several days of search as they hold out hope she will be found alive. christie smith is live in hayward with more on the details of the next search for the 26-year-old. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. volunteers are expected to come to this building very soon. they are going to get training before heading out and searching a number of locations for michelle le. the family saying you know, despite what they hear from police, they can't give up hope that she's out there and may be alive, needing help. she was last seen at kaiser medical center in hayward, went on break to the parking lot, three weeks ago. and she vanished. police have questioned at least two dozen people, they searched the niles canyon area, but so far no arrests, no michelle. they believe that this is likely a homicide case. we're told that her extended family from san diego, they are expected to come out to the bay area and help, all of them saying it's not over till it's

6:33. this morning south bay police need help to track down a couple suspected of kidnapping a baby from her mother's car. take a look at this surveillance video. morgan hill police say 33-year-old maria belle seen in this video and enrique drove off in their mother's car from the reach out food bank in morgan hill. the baby happened to be inside the car at the time. police found the car and the baby, luckily safe, but the couple still on the loose. police say she was spotted using the mother's credit card. >> university of new mexico football player whose sagging pants led to his arrest is now free on bail. 20-year-old deshon marman was arrested wednesday after a stewardess asked him to get off the plane because he had not pulled his pants up over his boxers as she asked. the incident escalated and he

was eventual hi arrested on suspicion of trespassing, battery of a police officer and obstruction of a police investigation. it's not clear if prosecutors will file formal charges. he told nbc bay area that he was upset on wednesday. he had just attended the funeral of a close friend. >> the damage is done, fremont city leaders tallying up losses. the city says the value of the 390-acre property will be 40% lower than it was before it was divided and sold separately. that means that the city will likely take a $600,000 hit in property tax revenue this year. tesla bought 200 acres for about $42 million. before the sale the nummi was valued at about $1 billion. >> the number of new

get those struggling to make ends meet lower payments f. you can show up you can expect loan and financial counselors to help you with the process. i chatted with many of the folks here in line, one man left his santa maria home at 1:00 this morning. that's all the way down by san luis obispo. he made it here by 5:00 a.m. he says he can't afford his home. >> i'm trying to keep my house. right now, you guys, everybody knows economy's bad. gas prices. because of the economy they lower my hours on my job. it's really hard so i'm trying to see if these people can help me to keep my house. >> basically you can stay in the house as long as you can until they pretty much kick you out. you know, you can try to short sell it. and then move on. go rent, i guess. >> reporter: that's worse case scenario.

there. >> reporter: that's right. 1200 mayors in all from some of the biggest cities in the country, four of them from the bay area including mayor kamina, mayor quan, mayor hostaman and mayor lee from san francisco to talk about the issues that the cities have in common that affect cities all over the country. jobs or the lack thereof, development, environmental issues, education and health. but this time they are also going to be talking about the wars in iraq and afghanistan. what does that have to do with running a city? what the mayors want to do is pass a resolution urging the federal government to wrap up these conflicts quickly so the $126 billion that we're spending overseas in iraq and afghanistan can be redirected to our nation's cities, to the bay area for things like jobs and infrastructure. the meetings start today. they are going to talk how to bring money back home. >> sure.

just -- besides being beautiful. it's the ultimate driving machine. it is. and it's the ultimate driving machine for me. the car handles great. 4.4 liters under the hood. big v-8 with twin turbo chargers. this is $107,000 so it's not a cheap car but it is -- yeah, it's like having a mortgage. but it's the 2012 model. it just came out. got a beautiful interior. the top goes up and down in 25 seconds. and bmw says you can raise and lower the top at speeds up to 25 miles per hour but that's not something that i tried. >> i would think that you shouldn't. at that price tag i don't know if it's got room for three car seats i need. it's also father's day weekend. i don't know if you're a dad. but you do have ideas for car enthusiasts. >> i do. you know, almost all dads do love things about cars so i was

looking at things maybe people could get this weekend. tomtom makes a gps that is inexpensive, under $100. if you go to radio shack.com there is a coupon to get $30 off. and once you have that you can get celebrity voices for another $13. i found a seat belt buckle that's made -- it was made from the seat belt of a car and it becomes a belt for dad which is cool. you can get some driving gloves from the porsche club. if you want to get him something spem, hertz rent a car will rent him a muscle car for the day. it's not that expensive. but yes, i am a dad, and for me i think the greatest gift a child can give a father is to take his car, put it in the drive way and give it a really good wash job. that gift is priceless. >> make sure you dry it in the shade, though. don't want those spots. i saw the posh thing there too.

story, they spent hours, as much as four, trying to fight traffic to get to the june 7th concert only to turn around and head home. a lot of people say they want to take legal action against the city and concert organizers if they don't get ticket money back. event organizers said they did everything they could. i don't know why they turned around or if people turned them around. we'll investigate. a little u2 doesn't hurt. let's check the commute. >> u2 in the morning. it's a beautiful day when they play. on the east bay, apparently there's congestion around the coliseum. i don't know why it was a surprise. the east shore freeway, 20 minutes, that's no surprise. as you move through the east bay some slowing, not at the maze, this is friday light but moving slowly through antioch. muni is recovering, the n and the j lines recovered after the power was restored. last night huge problems but the underground running again with maybe minor delays through the
