between osama bin laden and pakistan's government. the "new york times" is reporting the cell phone of the courier that led the u.s. to bin laden's compound contained contacts from a militant group linked to pakistan's intelligence agency. in the meantime, a letter written by bin laden uncovered in last month's raid shows he considered changing al qaeda's name. he thought the group had become known for killing too many muslims and needed a new identity that linked it to a holy war with america. a dangerous waiting game is on in minot, north dakota, where officials say they have done all they can ahead of an expected record-breaking river surge this weekend. nbc's kevin tibbels is there this morning. good morning. >> reporter: not only are they calling this flood historic, some are calling it a prairie tsunami. and the water keeps on rising. the river is on the rise, and predictions for record flooding get higher and higher as overloaded dams are forced to

release more water. crews race against time to reinforce barriers protecting vital infrastructure, like this bridge. if it goes, minot would literally be cut in half. red cross shelters are filling up as more residents flee their homes for safer ground. >> we moved everything up, you know, the best we could. >> more than 4,000 homes and businesses are said to be in the direct path of the flood waters. >> it's pretty devastating to know that my place is going to go under water. >> the suspected crest could reach 8 feet above the record floods of 1881. more than 12,000 tons of dirt have been hauled in to build temporary levees. but whatever devastation the river brings to minot, people here are determined to rebuild and carry on. >> i ask the citizens of minot to stay strong, and we'll get through this. >> reporter: officials here say water levels are six times greater than flood protection

we had 40s popping up on the map. now that the sun is out our temps are all in the upper 50s across the board. it's going to be a great golf weekend. heading to danville, make those tee times. 79 for today. 81 as we head through saturday. he most wanted men in america managed to elude authorities for 16 years. pete williams has the latest this morning. pete williams, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. during all that time the fbi and federal prosecutors were hunting for whitey bulger checking out tips he had been spotted around the nation, even overseas, it turns out he had been living in the same california apartment nearly the entire time. barbara gluck thought there was something peculiar about the neighbors who lived across the hall in this santa monica apartment building.

an attractive couple, though the man she knew as charles gasko had a fierce temper. >> there were several times where we would start to chat and he would in a very rage-filled voice go "stop talking and come with me." >> reporter: he turned out to be a wanted man, whitey bulger, a boston crime boss on the run. since shortly after he fled to dodge organized crime charges, he's been living in that california apartment building for 15 years, the property managers say, paying cash. late wednesday fbi agents arrested him there along with his long time girlfriend catherine greig after getting a tip in response to a nationally televised fbi plea for information about her. >> the fbi is offering $100,000 for tips leading to catherine greig's whereabouts. >> reporter: the fbi says agents found cash and guns inside the apartment. >> the fbi's evidence response team conducted a thorough search of the residents and found the followen: over $800,000 in cash, more than

30 firearms, including pistols, rifles and shotguns. >> reporter: two decades ago bulger ran the irish mob in south boston. a reporter who grew up there says he was liked by many. >> he had the reputation of a robin hood physician your who protected the neighborhood, kept drugs out of the neighborhood, things like that. >> reporter: in south boston, some were amazed he was arrested. >> if he didn't get caught, it would be more interesting. he would have been a legend. he would have been more of a legend. >> reporter: no such regard in the family of debra davis. he's accused of strangling her in 1981. her brother stephen doesn't consider bulger a legend. >> i'm an eye for an eye type of guy. i would have been more glad if i found him. >> reporter: on thursday bulger and greig appeared in federal court in california to formally hear the charges. >> he was ordered by the court to be transferred to boston to face the two federal indictments waiting for him there. >> reporter: before bulger fled he was an fbi informant helping shut down his rivals, the

italian mafia in north boston. his agent handler has been convicted of turning a blind eye to his crimes. if he starts talking now, he could reimplicate others and open a sad chapter again for law enforcement. ann. >> pete williams this morning. thank you. thank you very much. if you thought the presidential buzz was loud already, just wait. new jersey's republican governor chris christie is celebrating a very big win this morning. he just persuaded the democratic-controlled legislature in his state to pass historic pension and health care reform that he claims will save his state billions of dollars. governor chris christie is with us exclusively. governor, congratulations. >> thank you, matt. >> it's huge. this reform, according to your estimates and other estimates will save your state something like $130 billion over the next 30 years. you said, quote, it's an example of bipartisanship that the president and congress can only aspire to. is this something that could only happen at the state level? >> no, no, it's not.

what you need to do is everybody needs to take risk, bring skin to the game. i have to tell you, i would not have been able to achieve this for new jersey without the senate president steve sweeney and the speaker of the assembly, sheila oliver. everybody came together, put aside party. >> let's look at the bigger picture. you know exactly what's going on in washington right now. specifically what can the president and members of congress learn from what you've just accomplished in new jersey? >> first, the president can show up. i mean, you can't negotiate through a secondary person. with all due respect to the vice president, the president's got to show up. i spent hours and hours and hours, matt, with the senate present and the speaker personally in my office over weeks negotiating this. >> when you say the president has to show up, both sides need to be willing to really grab compromise. eric cantor, the house majority leader, just walked away from the table in the last day because he doesn't want to consider raising taxes. was that the right move? >> listen, if that's what they needed to do to get the

president in the room, then so be it. >> based on your experience, is that what chris christie would have done in a similar situation? >> well, no. i'm the governor i would have try to get dragged into the room. i didn't have to get dragged in the room. i knew it was my responsibility. so still steve sweeney and oliver. we didn't send seconds into the ring. we got into the ring ourselves, battled it out, came to compromise, convinced our colleagues and we did it. >> it comes with a cost. when you look at your situation in new jersey right now, teachers don't like you, the public employees unions, they hate you right now. your approval rating, 47% of the people in new jersey disapprove of the job chris christie is doing in the state. simply go with the territory? >> yes. you earn political capital in order to spend it to achieve big things. what makes what happened in new jersey different than other places is we did it in a bipartisan way. this is not just a republican plan or a democratic plan, it's a bipartisan plan where we compromise to put the people first, matt. the taxpayer is going to be

saved over $130 billion over the next 30 years. we needed to bring equity and shared sacrifice to this. >> this took a long time. this was a year-long process. during that time you became known as a guy who speaks in blunt terms, sometimes to a shocking level. i've always admired that from you. i really have. but i listened to a comment you made recently and even i was surprised. this is an exchange you had with a voter over cuts in education. let me play it, okay? >> you don't send your children to public schools, you send them to private schools. i was wondering why you think it's fair to be cutting school funding to public schools? >> first off, it's none of your business. i don't ask you where you send your kids to school. don't bother me about where i send mine. >> is that a little blunt, even for you? >> no, it's not. her point is completely ridiculous. i shouldn't be able to make decisions about budgetary issues that relate to public schools because my children go to private school? that was the question. it's none of her business where

i send my kids to school. >> i thought it was a fair question, and i'll tell you why. what she was asking was, she clearly sends her kids to public schools. she's saying, governor, i understand you send your kids to private schools, but is it possible, though, then you don't understand how these cuts are going to affect families like hers on a daily basis. why isn't a fair question? >> it's nonsensical. to think as a governor you don't understand every cut you make and the effects it has on people is nonsensical. the fact is, wherever i send my children to school, my wife and i decide we want our children to go to catholic school because it helps reenforce the values we're teaching. it has nuting to do with it. i'm a product of the public schools, went to the public schools in new jersey my entire life. the idea to think that as governor somehow that makes my ability less powerful because my children go to school. you know what my skin in the game is on public schools? i pay $38,000 a year in property taxes. my kids don't go to the school that uses most of that money. that's my responsibility as a

citizen, to help to fund good, free public schools in my state. i'm not complaining about it, i'm not asking her for any money to send my kids to parochial school. so it's none of her business. when it's none of your business, it's none of you business, matt. >> you had lunch recently or a meeting with rudy giuliani. what did you talk about? don't say it's none of your business. >> no, no. you sure? what we talked about was his future, my future. >> did he say are you running because i'm considering it? and if you're running i don't think i can win in this area and i don't want to get involved? >> no, he didn't say exactly that. >> something similar to that? >> listen, we had a conversation about it. again, he asked me about what i was going to do. i told him there's no different answer because i'm here at lunch with you than everything i said publicly. i'm governor, want to be governor, i'm not running for president. >> no, no, no, no. i haven't heard no this often since i asked the homecoming queen to the prom. >> matt, i had the same experience, baby. i feel your pain.

>> so it is no, even though it looks like, you're going to speak in iowa next month before a crucial straw poll. you recently met with campaign donors out there. so is your mouth saying no and your heart still considering yes? >> no, listen, i got invited by the governor to come and speak about education reform which is something i feel passionately about. he's a friend. i'm going to go do it. some folks from iowa want to come to new jersey. anybody that wants to come to new jersey, i'm in. let them come. i care about the future of our country and i want us to have the best possible candidate in our party to run for president. but it's not going to be me. >> thank you for being here. >> good seeing you, matt. >> governor chris christy. by the way, i want to tell you he's going to be david's guest on sunday morning on "meet the press." it's 17 after the hour. here's ann. >> turning to lindsay lohan breathing a sigh of relief because she's not heading back to jail. on thursday a judge ruled even though she tested positive for alcohol, she didn't violate probation in any way. nbc's lee cowen is in los angeles with more.

hey, lee, good morning. >> reporter: this all stems from a party she held at her home. the same home where she's supposed to be under house arrest for the theft of a necklace. the judge wasn't particularly pleased that lohan doesn't seem to be taking incarceration at her house very seriously. but when it comes to drinking, she said legally she can't be punished for that. she arrived in court looking more the professional than party girl, more up tight than easygoing and for good reason. lindsay lohan was about to defend, not only hosting a party at the home where she's supposed to be under house arrest, but why she also tested positive for alcohol. not exactly model behavior, legal analysts say, for someone on probation for dui. >> she's bringing the fun to her. she's having parties, drinking at her house. that's the antithesis of why she's on house arrest. >> reporter: inside, judge stephanie sautner was hardly pleased and spent more than an hour discussing whether the

troubled starlet should go back to jail. in the end, the judge ruled while lohan was guilty of extremely bad judgment, she was technically not in violation of her probation, a fact highlighted by her legal team. >> even if she drank alcohol, she's permitted to drink alcohol in her home. drinking alcohol is legal. >> reporter: in and out of different courtrooms and different rehab programs, there was a time when lohan was ordered to stay completely sober. it turns out that order expired nearly four months ago. >> the reality is, she's done everything right this time. >> reporter: it means if lohan wants to remain on the wagon, she'll have no legal entity looking over her. there's no random drug tests, no alcohol monitoring bracelet, nothing to force her into compliance. and that worries some addiction specialists. >> her drinking may escalate. her use may escalate. her self-destructive behavior will escalate before it gets better. >> for now, lindsay lohan is

very much on her own. once that home detention ends at the end of this month she'll start chipping away at nearly 500 hours of community service she's been sentenced as well. when it comes to those parties, no more of those, at least not big ones. in fact, the judge ordered that lindsay lohan can have no more than one person over at her house at a time. >> lee cowen this morning, thanks. it's 7:20. here is matt. >> thank you very much. michelle obama begins the second leg of her africa trip today. she arrived in botswana where she has a full day of events planned. nbc's kristen welker is traveling with the first lady. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, matt. on thursday i had the chance to sit down and speak with the first lady one on one. we talked about some of the highlights on this trip, including what it was like to meet an icon, south africa's nelson mandela. >> it was surreal. i never imagined in my lifetime

that i would have the opportunity to meet, shake hands with, sit in the home of nelson mandela. >> take me inside that room. what was it like to be there with him? >> i don't know that it means anything different for me as an african-american first lady because nelson mandela means so much to so many people, but i feel blessed. and when i look at his legacy, i feel like i need to work hard to live up to it. >> do you think malia and sasha understood how profound that moment was? >> i think malia more so than sasha, because she's older and is studying history. sasha will understand. >> is this a one-time thing of them being in the spotlight? >> you always have the balance of protecting them, making their lives normal but letting them have opportunities like this. >> in a recent interview with ann curry the president said "i am sure there are days where i say one term is enough."

do you ever feel that way? >> i think we have a lot more work to do. so i'm ready for more. he's ready for more. >> what's your strategy going to be in 2012? >> we don't have a strategy. i want to be helpful. i want to help amplify all the good work that he's done, and i want to keep building on the issues that are important to me as well. >> do you have any hesitation about getting back out there onto the campaign trail? >> i have always enjoyed campaigning because i really like people. because when you are connecting with people, you're reminded what we're doing this for. >> reporter: now, earlier today the first lady visited an hiv/aids clinic in botswana. later she'll meet with the president. she ends the trip on a bit of a

casey's mother, cindy, is calling that key prosecution evidence in to question. casey anthony showed little emotion as her mother cindy returned to the witness stand. >> good afternoon, mrs. anthony. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: if there was any question about cindy's resolute support of her daughter, she's raced those doubts with her surprising testimony. >> if the computer entries were made, i made them. >> reporter: prosecutors have argued casey used duct tape and chloroform to kill her daughter and presented evidence from the family's confiscated computer to show someone searched the word chloroform. on thursday, cindy told the jury it was her. >> i started looking up chloroform -- i mean chlorophyl and that prompted me to look up chloroform. >> now, i don't understand how you could get those two mixed up. >> not getting them mixed up. if you look into chlorophyl,

there is some bacteria associated with chlorophyl production. >> reporter: cindy is a nurse, but her search for the obscure chemical was because she feared her two dogs were eating bamboo in the yard and could get sick. prosecutors fired back. >> i take it you did not tell them that you made those searches, correct? >> i did tell law enforcement. in fact, i told you during my deposition in 2009 that i mode those searches. >> reporter: casey's reaction, wow. skeptical prosecutors say time sheets show cindy and her husband were at work when the searches were made. now cindy is calling that into question. >> why would your work schedule show you were work? >> could have been an error. >> reporter: you may remember when the prosecution presented its evidence -- >> based on her computer searches -- >> reporter: a computer expert

said he found 84 searches for how to make chloroform. >> did you type those words into the search bar on google? >> i don't recall typing in how to make chloroform. i recall typing in the word chloroform. >> reporter: but now the defense is questioning if the state's computer experts concealed their full examination of that hard drive. >> the reports are different. >> reporter: the defense asked about another examination on the hard drive. >> and how many times does it show that that website was visited? >> one, sir. >> reporter: just once. >> you didn't testify to this jury about that report, did you? >> no, sir. >> reporter: the question now for the jury is do they believe cindy? is her credibility strong and is it stronger in part because of that conflicting evidence presented in those computer searches? ann? >> kerry sanders, thank you so much. we're joined now from orlando by the attorney for casey's parents, cindy and george anthony.

his name is marc lippman. good morning. >> good morning. thanks for having me. >> let me ask you this question, without getting into what other news outlets are reporting, can you answer yes or no, do sin dee and george believe their daughter -- still believe their daughter is innocent? >> they don't know whether or not she's innocent based on the crimes that have been charged. certainly they don't believe or condone or support the theory that they've levied against george anthony and the allegations of molestation or him helping move the body or cover up anything casey may have done or may not have done. >> given those points being made by her defense team, how difficult is it for george and cindy to stay in that courtroom, to still support their daughter? >> they want to find out what the truth is, no matter how difficult it gets or how easy it may become. they don't know what happened

and they're hoping to get some closure and at least find the truth of what happened. >> meantime, this testimony that cindy gave yesterday about 82 hits -- 84 hits on the computer, being that she's the one who did that, why should the jury believe that this is not just a mother saying whatever she can to save her daughter's life? >> let me clarify that for you. the 84 hits was in reference to how to make chloroform. my client testified she never researched how to make chloroform. she researched as a derivative of her search for chlorophyl, chloroform came up. when you research chlorophyl and the effects of chlorophyl, chloroform will show as part of a negative use of chlorophyl. but she didn't research the other terms that the prosecution went over with her yesterday. >> that still doesn't answer the question. why should the jury believe her in saying that? why shouldn't they simply think

here is a mother trying to save the life of her daughter? >> my client has only told the truth throughout. this isn't new evidence to either side. certainly it was presented to the prosecution in my client's deposition in 2009. specifically she was asked by ms. burdick when she spelled chlorophyl, she spelled it wrong the first time and then it was corrected and she spelled it right the second time. it's not like the prosecution didn't know about the search and they can't say that's new evidence presented yesterday. certainly it's something that both parties had access to and was used by the defense yesterday. >> mr. lip man, thank you so much for joining us this morning. >> thanks very much. savannah guthrie is joining us in her role as today's legal correspondent. savannah, your sense about the significance of cindy anthony's testimony? >> i think it's hard to overstate how important this testimony is. i think we may look back at the most critical five minutes of the entire defense case. and here is the reason.

if the jurors believe it, if they have a reasonable doubt as to who searched that computer for the word chloroform or how to make chloroform, that strikes at the heart of the prosecution's evidence that this is a premeditated murder. if jurors believe it's a premeditated murder, we're talking about the death pen amendment. if they reject the evidence of premeditation -- this is the primary evidence of premeditation that's now been called into question, you're not looking at a death penalty case most likely. there are other ways they could potentially get to it. i think it's incredibly important. it's a bombshell. we may look back and say that's the five minutes where sin dee anthony affectively saved her daughter's life. >> meantime, listening to marc lippman this morning, you start to imagine what it must be like for this family, for cindy and george to be sitting in that courtroom not sure. they want to believe that their daughter is innocent, but not sure. >> they're not sure.

cindy anthony has already been a witness for the prosecution against her daughter, now a witness for the defense. and then these incredibly painful allegations leveled against the family in the context of this trial. it's hard to imagine. let's not forget the central point, there's a little girl who died. by all accounts, cindy and george anthony loved and doted on that little girl. they've seen some incredibly affecting and hard to look at testimony in the trial. >> do you think cindy anthony's testimony was important enough that it's possible that casey does not have to take the stand? >> it's possible. but here is the thing. the defense still hasn't told its story, still has not put on proof of this accidental drowning. certainly hasn't put on any significant or substantial proof about casey's claims that her father molested her. no matter how you slice it, if they want to tell that story in a compelling way, i continue to believe there's only one person who can tell the story and it's casey anthony.

something she prefers. >> that's what she said. no question. tamron, thank you very much. pepper schwartz is a relationship expert with perfectmatch.com. gary marcus is a professor of psychology at new york universi university. good morning to both of you. good to see you. is it more important to find out why we fight or how we fight? >> i think they're both important. why tells us what the goal is. if your goal is to win, you'll have a different outcome than if the goal is to understand. how is important because you can do a lot of damage if you fight badly. >> and you can learn to change your behavior so you don't run into the same problems over and over again. >> yeah. >> let's talk about the stereotypes, gary. for the most part it's assumed -- this may not be right at all in all households -- but that women are more emotional in arguments, and men can sometimes be distant and dismissive. fair? >> i don't think it's really fair. i think what really matters is there are differences between different people, between different individuals. there are lots of reasoning styles. people can be more analytical or not, for example.

there's no good data to show that's a systematic thing over time. rather, the brain allows us to do these different kinds of things. with training we can become more analytical. the brain evolves so we have both analytical capabilities and not and we have to learn to integrate them. >> one of the things that gets lost in arguments are facts. those are the first things to go because once it's calculates past the original argument, it's no longer about what you started arguing about. >> i think a lot of arguments aren't about what you're arguing about. they're really struggles for dominance or for understanding or emotional connection or fairness. and the issue is just the pretext. it devolves down to the things you haven't handled between each other. >> how would you suggest that couples stay on topic when it comes down to a fair argument? >> i think it's really important to understand how the brain works and why it is that we don't stay on topic which is

that the brain is built so that when we get in an argument, we just use the first piece of information that comes to mind and we often want to show that we're right. we want to feel good about ourselves. we need to compensate for that. we have to realize that the most recent thing is not necessarily the most important, so we're mad about this that happened yesterday, but there's a long history of being together that's great and you need to remember that. you need to remember that what you really should be doing in an argument is looking for the truth. to do that you need to understand the other person's perspective. >> if you do want to be more successful in arguments, not talking about winning here, but disarming your partner is often helpful. you just related a story about what's happened in your life? >> yes. we can get into many intense arguments. what he'll do is reach over and take my hand in the middle of the argument so i can either yank it away in which we escalate to a really bad place or i relax into it and we talk to each other and we remember that the point is the problem is the problem, you're not the problem.

"the new york times" reports the cell phone of the courier that led the u.s. to ben laden's compound contained contacts from a militant group linked to pakistan's intelligence agency. meantime, a letter written showed he had considered changing al qaeda's name. he thought the group had become known for killing too many muslims and needed a new identity that linked it to a holy war with america. surprising turns in the casey anthony murder trial. nbc's kerry sanders joins us from orlando live with the latest. kerry, good morning.

>> reporter: good morning, savannah. prosecutors have told the court that casey anthony murdered her daughter with duct tape and chloroform. but now a new bombshell testimony, casey's mother is calling that key prosecution evidence into question. casey anthony showed little emotion as her mother, cindy, returned to the witness stand. >> good afternoon, mrs. anthony. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: if there was any question about her resolute support of her daughter, she erased those doubts with her surprising testimony. >> if those computer entries were made, i made them. >> reporter: prosecutors argued casey used duct tape and chloroform to kill her daughter and they presented evidence from the family's confiscated evidence to show someone searched the word chloroform. on thursday cindy told the jury it was her. >> i started looking up chloroform -- i mean chlorophyl and then that prompted me to look up chloroform. >> now, i don't understand how you could get those two mixed

up. >> not getting them mixed up. if you look into chlorophyl, there's some bacteria associated with chlorophyl production. >> reporter: cindy is a nurse, but her search for the obscure chemicals she testified was because she feared her two dogs were eating bamboo in the yard and could get sick. prosecutor linda drane-burdick fired back. >> i take it you did not tell them that you made those searches, correct? >> i did tell law enforcement. in fact, i told you during my deposition in 2009 that i made those searches. >> casey's reaction, "wow." several prosecutors say time sheets showed both cindy and her husband, george, were at work, when the computer searches were made at home. but now cindy is even calling that into question. >> why would your work schedule show you were working? >> could have been an error if my supervisor filled out my time card. >> reporter: you may remember

when the prosecution presented its evidence -- >> based on her computer searches -- >> reporter: -- a computer expert said he found 84 searches for "how to make chloroform." >> did you type those words into the search bar on google? >> i don't recall typing in "how to make chloroform." i recall typing in the word "chloroform." >> reporter: now the defense is questioning if the state's computer experts concealed their full examination of that hard drive. >> the reports are different. >> reporter: the defense asked about another examination on the hard drive. >> how many times does it show that website was visited? >> one, sir. >> reporter: just once. >> but you didn't testify to this jury about that report, did you? >> no, sir. >> reporter: the question now for the jury is credibility. do they believe cindy? and are they more likely to believe cindy anthony now based on those conflicts on the number of searches on the computer for chloroform. savannah? >> kerry sanders in orlando for

us, thank you. a rescue plan is under way for the lost baby penguin who captured worldwide attention when he turned up on a new zealand beach 2,000 miles from his antarctic home, nicknamed happy feet, the 10-month-old was becoming ill after confusing sand with snow and trying to eat it. so zoo workers put the penguin in an icebox and moved it to a place they can nurse it back to health until a permanent solution is found. talk about a late bloomer. it took gilbert hakim warrick almost 100 years to find the woman of his dreams. he said he never found the right girl until he met virginia hartman at the nursing home. at the age of 99, gilbert got married for the first time. virginia says, quote, we'll have a good time no matter what. it's 9:06, back to matt, tamron and al. >> just in time. the skies have opened up here. >> just a bit. it's okay. we're still talking act bruno mars. >> we loved the concert.

plans. possibly a little rain in the mix on monday. i have to keep my cameraman dry because i love him. savannah. today's "daily dose" is brought to you by delicious fiber one chewey bars. cardboard, no. delicious, yes. >> all right. try to get that image out of your head. let's go on. this morning on today's "daily dose" your target numbers for healthy living. from cholesterol to blood sugar, do you know where you should be? dr. nancy snyderman is nbc's chief medical editor. good morning. >> hi, savannah. >> let's start with blood pressure. what's the magic number? for those that aren't clear on it, why is this so important? >> i don't want do have everyone glaze over with too many numbers. these are the kinds of things that are free.

you don't need to have great -- talk about insurance coverage, this is stuff you should know. the classic is 120 over 80. i happen to think that's a little bit of the high normal now. doctors would like to see 120 over 70 or 110 over 70. the top number means the heart is pushing blood through the blood vessels. the lower number is when the blood vessels relax. so those two numbers, basically you want to be at them or lower. anything higher and you're looking at high blood pressure or hypertension. >> an e-mail from kristen in new york who asks, my blood pressure is 91 over 61, at the bottom of the normal scale. i know there are health issues associated with high blood pressure. are there health associated with low blood pressure as well? >> that's me. i'm 90 over 60. a lot of people say they're lower. they go to the doctor and it's higher. that's white coat hypertension. now get nervous about what your numbers are going to be. >> like stage fright? >> right.

if you know it's 90 over 60, the biggest thing is you might feel light hated every once in a while. that's what we call orthostatic hypotension. >> that's what you call it. >> yeah. it means when you move, your blood pressure drops a little bit. interestingly, it's really good for when you get older and your blood pressurizes normally. other than being light headed occasionally and knowing quick movements may cause you to be a little lightheaded, no problem. >> better to be low than high. >> yeah. >> let's move on to cholesterol. we hear all about good cholesterol, bad cholesterol. where should we be and what is this? >> ideally everyone would like to have levels lower than 200. that's a combination of hdl and ldl, the good and bad cholesterol. when it goes higher, this waxy substance we need for our cells working and vitamin d production, all that's good stuff. the problem is when it goes too high and it causes plaque buildup in our arteries. that's what causes strokes and heart disease. if your doctor says your number is 220 or 230, you have to make sure it's broken down into good

and bad cholesterol and something else called triglycerides. >> you get that from your doctor. >> that's right. >> jim from indiana asks, i used to have high total cholesterol, above 230. after my doctor put me on medication, my cholesterol is 110. is it possible to lower your cholesterol too much? jim should get together with our low blood pressure writer. >> i have the same situation. my cholesterol was 230. i went on medications. it dropped into the 150s and i slowly got off of it. diet and exercise can take care of a lot of people like this. talk to your doctor. you might want to get off your medication and slowly monitor and see if you can live without it. >> blood sugar, a lot of people associate that with diabetes. you say everybody needs to know this number. >> just like blood pressure. you need to know this when you're a teenager. woef more and more cases of diabetes. 80 to 120. the only way to get an accurate reading is a morning, fasting blood sugar.

that means you don't eat anything after midnight. you will go in and get your blood measured or pee in a cup and have it dip sticked. e either way. higher sugar might mean diabetes. >> a minute left. two more numbers. healthy weight. body mass index. basically healthy height and weight. >> this is the hardest formula for anyone to remember. look it up online and know you have to be between 21 and 25. if you're over 25 you're overweight, over 30 you're obese. you want to be somewhere between 21 and 25. that's a normal bmi. >> waist circumference. why do we need to know this other than to fit into those jeans? if we know our bmi. >> because you carry toxic fat around your middle. the fat around your middle releases hormones that make your blood pressure go up and put you at risk for all the bad stuff. for women, your waist can't be greater than 35 inches, for men, 40 inches. simple. get a tape measure out.

a xwraek for lindsay lohan. on thursday the judge decided not to send her back for jail even though she tested positive for alcohol. lee cowen is in los angeles. >> reporter: this stems from a party lindsay lohan had at her house. the judge wasn't too pleased with a party saying it looked like lohan wasn't taking her confinement seriously. when it comes to drinking, she couldn't be punished for that. >> reporter: she arrived looking more like party girl than easygoing. lindsay lohan was about to defend not only hosting a party at the home where she's supposed to be under house arrest, but why she also tested positive for alcohol, not exactly model

behavior, legal analysts say, for someone on probation for dui. >> she's bringing the fun to her. she's having parties, drinking in her house. that's the antithesis of why she's on house arrest. >> reporter: inside, superior court judge stephanie sautner was hardly pleased and spent more than an hour discussing whether the troubled starlett should go back to jail. but she was technically not in violation of her probation, highlighted by her legal team. >> even if she drank alcohol, she's permitted to drink alcohol in her home. drinking alcohol is legal. >> reporter: in and out of different courtroom ts and different rehab programs, there was a time when lohan was ordered to stay completely sober. it turns out that order expired nearly four months ago. >> the reality is she's done everything right this time. >> reporter: it means if lohan was to remain on the wagon, she'll have no legal entity
