i think that if you're leaving now you might want extra time headed to the bay bridge. that's the only place we're noticing a stack-up in the northbound lanes. over all looking good. let's end with a picture of the golden gate bridge. weed that fog. it has completely cleared and look how light that drive is. plenty of space. time for you to enjoy that drive. >> thanks. from high car prices due to limited supply caused by the earthquake in japan it's expensive to own a car. there is another factor treading on your wallet. jerry republicans rens joins us with more on that. good morning. >> hey, good morning, marla. you know it's true. there is a tire shortage going on now as if the auto industry didn't have enough problems the past few years. there's a couple of reasons for that. if you shopped for tires lately you'll notice that prices are way up.
6:52 am
like a lot of businesses during the recession, tire manufacturers cut back f. you look back a few years ago the auto industry of the united states was producing about 17 million cars and that number fell to about 10 million in short order. for everyone of those productions that was lost that was five tires out of the tire industry so. they really got hurt. they cut way back. now that things are picking up they are having to try to increase production. this isn't going to go away soon and it makes you want to be cautious of the tires you have to make sure you get as much life out of them as you can. the next set going too set you back a lot more than the last set. >> you're next to a range rover. i wish i had one. what kind of tires do you put on that? >> well, it's got michelin all terrain tires, that's a little

piece of the story. this is a terrific suv, the hse, the biggest rover that they make. not exactly fuel efficient at 12 in the city and 18 on the highway. but a great driving vehicle with amazing 4-wheel drive capacity if that's what you're into. $91,000 on the msrp. people that buy these love them and buy them again and again. it's a special suv. >> from an iconic suv to a disappearing suv, disappearing icon i should say. >> yeah. some of us remember back when sedans came with a front been were seat. you could put three across and then the back seat capacity too. the last car to have a bench seat was the chevy impala. the bench seat is not going to make it for the next car that comes out in the fall.
6:54 am
so, for those that remember the bench seat and those guys like i did when i was young, wanted my girls next to me. that's out the window. you have center consoles. i think if there are dads out there that have daughters they might be pretty happy. >> what about folk. they want to perhaps look for a car this weekend despite the expense. any deals this weekend? >> you know, we saw an amazing increase in incentives just over the last week that run through tuesday. even cars that have been in short supply like honda and toyota have jumped the incentives or lowered the interest rates. this is a good selling weekend for the dealers. >> jerry reynolds, thanks. have a great holiday. >> thank you. >> the duke and duchess of
