security threat that even full body scanners cannot detect. marla tellez is live at the san jose airport with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. most supreme a love hate relationship when it comes to airport security. it can be a big hassle. passengers brace for another potential procedure. this is all because of what's been dubbed so called belly bombs, explosives surgically implanted in a person's body. it's the newest threat that tsa is warning about. terror groups believed to be experimenting with explosives that could be in their back side or breast which would be undetectible by the body scanners. a spokesperson said tsa briefed air carriers and foreign partners to provide greater inside into recent intelligence

indicating the continued interest of terrorists to target aviation. a specific imminent threat has not been identified. speaking to passengers they say this news is unsettling. >> seeing it on the screen, you know, just leave it in god's hands. hopefully everybody traveling will be safe but unfortunately we can't stop all of it. >> reporter: so, what can you expect as a passenger? security officials say they may resort to trace detection swabs, more intense questioning, and pat-downs and the use of enhanced technology. here at san jose international nothing specific has been changed or added. they want passengers to be aware the next time you are here you could see additional security. >> good to know. thank you very much. it's 5:03.

suspected killer joseph naso is expected in a courtroom. he will ask a judge to apoint a counsels tool his case. he decided to represent himself on charges that he murdered four women. the judge is expected to gant the request but only if he pays for it himself t.d. a. says the assets are more than $1 million. a judge postpones sentencing in the chauncey bailey trial. the judge wants to know what the lawyer for a key witness meant when he told reporters his client may have fabricated part of his testimony. they say they have a right to move for a new trial. the prosecutors are confident an investigation will not change the word and sentencing. the judge ordered three reporters to appear at the

hearing. bay and macke face life in prison with the possibility of parole. 5:04. a new homicide in concord after a body was found at an abandoned gas station. 57-year-old gene was discovered tuesday morning at a station. police say based on evidence at the scene his injuries they know that he was murdered so. far no suspects have been identified. you saw anything suspicious in the area you are your honor to call police. one man is in critical condition after being shot in the head. bob redell is live and joins us now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. investigators are waiting for their first daylight look at this section of the delta deanza regional trail, maybe get an answer why did this happen?

was this a tran dom crime? was it robbery? something else. we spoke with mess police and parks and recently alples and they, frankly, do not know. as a ult they don't have suspects. this happened around 8:30. the man in his 20's was shot in the back of his head. it was someone who ran to a local mickey de's, who got him help. this man is now at the sutter delta medical center. in this last report from last night he was in critical condition with that wound to the back of his head. we spoke with the district police this morning. i asked is this a problem on the trail as far as crime? is this a dangerous section? this run from bay point all the way to oak leaf. they said not that they know of but we know in years past the community has met with police and local leaders to discuss

crime. but robbery that sort of thing, it has been a concern. you might recall six years ago a pittsburg police officer was chasing a robbery suspect was shot, he eventually died. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> 5:07. the decision behind pension reform in san francisco may go to the people. that's if one public defender has his way trying to reach out to voters. he has enough signatures to mace a moosh on the balance hot. the plan is different from the one ed lee proposed. his plan would save mine 7 million in 2012 but it's not approved by unions. the plan was worked without the unions and save $58 million. the board wisconsin vote on whether to put the compromise

plan on the ballot. we'll keep you posted. >> crews will start work on a parking structure that il eventually alleviate the parking at the new 49er stadium in santa clara. the the nearly 2,000-space garage willing built mex to the convention center. the structure means exthat that parking in addition to the 40 thousand plus seats. the project has been in the works since even before the project was proposed. it's summertime temperatures but they are dropping i guess brings us back to average. if you are sick of the heat, the 90s, we're going to get a raet great lake especially inland. it will be chillier, especially this morning because of on shore flow which has kicked in. and something else we're noticing you don't have the low clouds only, you've got mid level and high clouds out there

this morning. so we're going to see changes today. that will be good for you if you are looking for a cooldown, especially inland where we have the 90s, even triple digits earlier. thunderstorms a possibility especially in the southeast most region of the bay area. we're going to see this moisture continue to creep up from the south. as it does it's colliding with our dry air so the two combine. we get that very strong difference for us as a result thunderstorms able to develop. watch out for that. you'll notice the clouds forming. especially if you're waking up in concord, livermore and fair field. 56 degrees in gilroy, 54 in san mateo. 53, refreshing start in san francisco. we're headed to about 70 later on. 85 santa rosa, in the south bay, 83 for san jose and 87 in gilroy. i do have that seven-day forecast ready to go, stay tuned. i'll let you noey what you can

launch a big budget unit after the success of "rango." it will make one big budget film per year. the first in 2014. for the rest of the news before the bell we turn to today in the bay's danielle kennedy live at cnbc headquarters. good morning. >> good morning, laura. stocks are on track to open higher today adding to yesterday's gains, the dow picked up 56 points on wednesday to end the trading day at 12,626. the nasdaq up 8 to 2834 and investors are shrugging off a handful of weak reports, looking to friday's jobs numbers and earning season. we'll get a fresh snapshot on the job market with numbers on people filing for unemployment, those figures should be out in about 15 minutes. across the pond, european and asian markets are higher. toyota and honda are loading up on incentives as they try to

boost sales. they include cash back and zero percent financing. toyota's incentives rose, both trail those from detroit's big three. more details emerge about the next version of the iphone. the "wall street journal" reports that apple ordered key parts. it's expected to be similar to the iphone 4 with an improved camera. however, analysts are conservative on sales forecasts because it may not have the kind of major improvements or features to entice current owners to upgrade. back to you. >> thank you very much, danielle. oakland city leaders will go door to door to promote national night out the mayor and other leaders will be canvassing neighborhoods tonight.

they want to encourage people to host a block party when the event starts in august. it promotes strengthening communities and improving neighborhood safety. last year, hundreds of groups held block parties all over oakland. 5:17 now. by august those are what, the dog days of summer. >> yeah. we had the dog days of summer. this weekend we don't have those triple digits. i'm forecasting 79 degrees on saturday, a significant cooldown courtesy of this area of low pressure that kicked up onshore flow. it's going to be the most significant component. we're going to see another area of high pressure driving in subtropical moisture from the south. that's going to impact the areas in the southeastern most portion of the bay. this is what we're looking at for today. low pressure getting very, very close to the coast. we're going to see a short trough ride through tonight into tomorrow.

as a result our temperatures will stay comfortable. forecasting only mid 80s. a couple upper 80s in fairfield and livermore. even san jose just the mid 80s sow can probably give your ac a break. thunderstorms are something that we are concerned about but only about a 10% to 20% chance of that. you'll notice that those clouds are stacking up. watch out in the southeastern region of the bay area, the enhancement. 61 in san jose. 53 in the city and 51 in santa ro rosa. we'll see a nice day in san rafael, 80 degrees. 83, that's it in san jose. then 87 degrees in gilroy. i love eliminating the 90s as we head throughout the weekend it gets better. look at this. 79 degrees saturday. you know what that means, no excuses when it comes to the triplets wanting to get out. >> never.

fabulous as his. major hair envy. let's get to your traffic this morning. we sure miss mike inouye. westbound highway 24 at fish ranch road we told you about this earlier. it's an injury accident involving a truck and a van. it looks hike we've got emergency crews on the scene, they are starting to clear that crash. unless you are leaving in the next 15 minutes or so forget about it. a live cam now, traffic moving nicely. you're not going to be alone out there. quite a few kmiters hitting the highway but the metering lights are off. we have no issues. and flow looks good. >> the investigation into the deadly shooting on a b.a.r.t. train platform in san francisco continues. b.a.r.t. says it has 35 to 40 witnesses who were at the civic center station on sunday night. all but 12 have been interviewed.

police they say shot a drunk man. there is surveillance video of the moments before the shooting. b.a.r.t. will release the video once the case is turned over to the d.a.'s office. both officers are on administrative leave. a couple visiting yellowstone attacked by a grizzly bear, the man was killed. they were walking on a trail yesterday when they surprised a female grizzly and her cubs. she attacked the man. his wife call forward help but it arrived too late. rangers are working to ensure the safety of others telling people to be aware. the attack is the first bear-related human death in the park since 1986. have you tried the new facebook skype chat? scott says it's available now. >> that's right. you go to facebook now if your

early, laura. we know they are going to hit the the highways soon. we'll cover everything. >> sounds perfect. 5:30. pittsburgh police investigating a shooting at popular trail by left one man in critical condition. bob redell is live with an update. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura, and the east bay park regional district police do not want to reopen this section of the delta deanza trail until the sun comes up and investigators get a chance to come out here if you look tonight the police cars, on the trail. they want to have a view of that crime scene to see if there are clues before they reopen this to the public. it was around 830 last night a man was shot in the back of the head while on this section of the trail here in pittsburg. he has been taken to the sutter delta medical center. at last report he was listed in

critical condition. we believe he is in his 20s. they don't have suspects, they don't know why he was shot. was this random, a robbery, something smells we spoke with the east bay police to get a sense of how bad is crime in this section of the trail and this officer i spoke with said it doesn't have a reputation as such but we know that the trails overall had problems in the past. several years ago there was a pittsburg police officer chasing a man who robbed a bank and was shot and eventually died after this ended up on this trail. in pittsburg, bob a dell. >> an 83-year-old woman killed by a teenage skateboarder going too fast down a hill. it happened in capitola. the teen was headed downhill

from cliff drive when he slammed into the woman tuesday. marianne hit the ground hard and was knocked unconscious. she died of severe head trauma. her husband of 64 years says skate boarding has been a problem for a while. >> i don't know how you control it, really. you can pass laws and everything but then they show up and they go down there 20 miles an hour. that's long till. >> the boy was not hurt. police did not arrest him but a criminal investigation is under way. this is new video of the man who walked out after gallery with a picasso under his arm. this video was shot by a security camera outside of lefty o'doole's, it shows a man wearing loafers with what appears to be that picasso

our current scanners. they have new information that al qaeda militants are considering them to blow up commercial flights. tsa is warning airlines about them but a specific immeant threat has not been identified. you can imagine this is not sitting well with passengers flying. still they say ring on the extra security. >> i think we have to take every threat seriously. no matter what the inconvenience is we don't enjoy standing in security lines but if it's going to deter any terrorist activity i'm all for it. >> i don't care if it takes two or three hours to get through security. it's worth it. >> reporter: security officials say they may resort to trace detection swabs, more questions and more intense pat downs and the use of enhanced tech

nothing. no major -- officials say if and when this does happen these new procedures could vary from airport to airport. the idea is keep these unpredictable. >> something to watch for. thank you very much. a brkly man reported missing this weekend is alive and well. anthony martin was found at a roseville hotel. he was reported missing by his girlfriend when he failed to return from a bike ride. his girlfriend launched a search. investigators say he volley left for personal reasons. >> oakland police officers will vote on whether to accept a pay cut from the city. police officers association will announce its decision today on a voluntary contract that could save 65 million over three years.

>> republican and democratic leaders will meet at the white house to talk about raising the nation's debt ceiling. brian moore live in washington with why this meeting is so important. good morning, brian. >> reporter: hi, laura. going into today's meeting president obama was unusually blunt. he said the debt ceiling shouldn't be a gun held to the heads of the american people. each side has its position staked out here but going into this meeting a little over two hours away it does look like there is some softening to the republicans especially in the controversial sticking point area of getting rid of some tax loopholes. eric cantor who walked out of the last set of talks says he

will be willing to consider cutting some of those loopholes, something the republicans before called essentially a tax increase. it looks like democrats may get some of what they want, republicans are going to want cuts. president obama says he is willing to do it apparently in the hot button issues of social security and medicare. we'll find out what comes out of that later. >> thank you, brian. families are holding onto to hope that seven missing fishermen are still alive in the city of cortez. rescuers planned to stop searching 96 hours after the boat capsized. 35 men survived the sinking of the ship, many of them are from the bay area. including jim miller, family members say warned the sleeping fishermen that they were in trouble. the families reached out to senator leland ye who says he

and other lawmakers persuaded the mexican navy to resume the search. we'll keep you informed. a california could be closer to doing away with the death penalty, asking the bang of the death penalty. the bill could convert sentences to life in prison without the possibility of pa parole. there are 713 on death row, only 13 have been executed since the death penalty was reinstated back in 1978. a southwest airlines pilot didn't want to wait for approval before starting an emergency dive when a hole ripped through the plane. here is 34,000 feet as southwest crews called the tower for help.

>> approved it when the guy's doing it. flight 812 had just left phoenix sky harbor airport in april when a hole appeared in the cabin. you heard the quick decision to make an emergency landing dropping 10,000 feet to compensate for the rapid decompression happening in the cabin. the pilot landed at the military base in yuma, arizona. there were no major injuries. had to make a snap decision with so many lives on board. >> hollywood, this week, getting ready for the real thing, prince william and his wife catherine, flying from canada to hollywood. tony is live in los angeles with more and close to the home where the royal couple will be staying. good morning.

longer than yesterday. that's going keep things cool. only forecasting highs around 75 degrees in the city of san francisco. you might hang on to the fog to keep things gray until probably noon. a nice start this morning, clear conditions over livermore, hayward. you can see look at this. shower activity pushing up. none of this made its way into the bay area. if you are headed down i-5 watch for a couple of showers that will intensify the closser you get to southern california. talk about what you can expect today, we have significant changes on the way. i told you about that cooldown. that cooldown is going to feel nice. we're only going to max out in the upper 70s. even in the warmest spots we're looking good. watch out for isolated thunderstorms especially over the mountains. if you live in the southeast portion of the bay area, the

so, can't play if you don't play. i don't know. that's very interesting. >> it is interesting. we're going to know a lot about that person. that's pretty cool. this morning our drive is looking good so far. we don't have major incidents to tell you about. we have a new crash. we don't have heavy slowing but if i don't get it cleared in the next 20 minutes it will be a concern. this is westbound highway 4 at g street, you have at least two lanes blocked. starting to see a backup. you'll be able to make up whatever delays past that crash. maybe in the next 15 minutes if it's still out there give yourself extra time. right now we know there's police on the scene and it looks like they are going to start clearing that pretty soon.

let's take it live in oakland, northbound and southbound traffic here moving up to speed. really nobody tapping their breaks yet. it's a matter of time. we'll keep watching it and let you know. >> we're watching for the sentencing in the casey anthony trial. she is going to find out if the time that she served so far behind bars will count. she was found guilty on four counts of lying to police. this is live pictures outside the courtroom. the jury found her not guilty for murdering her 2-year-old daughter caylee. she could be minutesed up to a year but a judge could release her for the time served. her daughter was reported missing in 2008. she became the prime suspect after the body was found, actually even before that. very interesting. we'll continue to follow that this morning as we are awaiting the sentencing.

rupert murdoch's news corp. under fire for allegedly hacking into a dead teen's voice mail, facing new and equally horrifying accusations. i want to check win scott for the details. >> america knows the father of fox tv it owns news of the world, murdock's reporters are under investigation for accessing and even deleting the voice mails of a murdered teen and they may have accessed the voice mails of british soldiers killed in action in iraq and afghanistan. this is according to published reports in a newspaper that a competitor to news of the world. murdock is a native australian, now an american, considered one of the most powerful men in britain. british politicians are usually afraid to take him on but this is growing. there are rumors on facebook that "the social network" will charge for access. it's nonsense. it may stem from talk of the new
