at the bay bridge toll plaza. typical construction as a lane or two blocked on the upper and lower deck, just maintenance. at the peninsula, though, on southbound 101. i'm tracking an accident at broadway off to the shoulder. i'll give you more coming up. >> thank you much. the end of an era, the space shuttle "atlantis" now back to earth after its final mission in space. >> having fired the imagination of a generation the ship like no other, its place in history secured, the space shuttle pulls into port for the last time. >> just before 3:00 this morning our time the shuttle landed at kennedy space center, the touchdown closes out nasa's shuttle program after 30 years. a bittersweet moment for many involved in the space program. today in the bay's bob redell has a firsthand look at the shuttle landing with a former astronaut who commanded the first flight of "atlantis." >> when the astronauts landed the space shuttle "atlantis" this morning they used skills they acquired training in one of

these simulators. former astronaut, good morning to you. how are you? >> good morning. >> when you are landing the space shuttle there isn't much room for error since it's one shot, you're gliding, under no power whatsoever. >> that's right. you have to do it right the first time. the only time. fortunately, you have been trained a lot. >> what are your thoughts on the space shuttle program coming to an end, 135 missions, 30 years? >> well, it was quite an accomplishment, the shuttle is really quite a machine. it's done things like the repair of the hubble space telescope or building the space station. i don't think we could have done any other way. i think the shuttle is going to leave quite a legacy that we'll be looking back at. >> your personal feelings? i imagine you've got a sense of nostalgia? >> absolutely. >> sad? >> absolutely. this was the last flight of

chemistry stoond at cal state, all three on a church outing when they climbed over barricades at vernal fallings and swept away. last night hundreds came together for an emotional prayer service at st. george church in the town just south of modesto. the three hikers now presumed dead. one family still hoping, holding on to hope, that they may still be alive. >> he's the brother we never had, he is our best friend and i know he's going to come home. he's coming home and this isn't real. he's coming home because he's my big brother and i ever asked for. >> there was not much of a search overnight. because of the strong currents search crews won able to retrieve the bodies, they have not been found, when they do they will not be able to retrieve them for weeks. for the victims' families and

friends they returned to emotionally connect. they didn't get in the water. they didn't cross the railing. they stood at the spot where their loved ones went over the edge. a life long friend of hormiz david says it's a struggle trying to make sense of the tragedy. >> coming up here, it's risk, it's hazardous. you're going to guarantee that. but they have the rails set in place for a reason. what possessed him to cross it and do that i have no idea. >> family and friends say the three were role models who did not normally take those risks. meantime, emotions exploding in the bay view after community activists shout down the police chief forcing him to walk out of his own town hall meeting. >> let's see what the problem is and fix it. >> i'm five feet away from you and trying to do just that. >> hundreds of people packed the bay view opera house to hear the

department's explanation of what led to the deadly shooting of a 19-year-old ken harding. police say the parolee fired at officers first, he had gun residue, powder residue, on his hand. some in the crowd were skeptical and took to the microphone. the police chief listened for an hour and a half and left the meeting. many others sat frustrated by the chaos. >> with the homicide in front of my house, to this incident here, me and my daughter i had to help her process it and let her know this is not okay. this is not okay. this is not normal. this is not okay. >> the chief says he is not giving up on the bay view. police and city leaders will plan additional meetings to try to calm the neighborhood. >> an update to a bizarre case we told you about yesterday. this morning we will hear from south bay teen who called police after a stranger tried to snatch her younger sister by luring the toddler with candy.

the 3-year-old and her 14-year-old sister were playing outside their apartment complex near downtown san jose monday night when 26-year-old myra flores allegedly tried to lure jasmine away. the girls ran back in their home. moments later flores walked into their apartment and tried to kidnap the 3-year-old again. flores insisted that she was the child's mother. >> that's my baby. she tried to grab her, yeah. and my mom tried to stop her and then like the lady was pushing her and then after that they were like i called the police. >> flores took off when a neighbor showed up. police found her about a half hour later and arrested her. she is scheduled to appear in court this morning. >> update on ryan stow's recovery. the giants fan beaten back in march had emergency surgery this week to ease massive fluid build-up on his brain that

caused a 30-second seizure. his doctors found and removed a mass they had not seen before. we spoke to a doctor who is tracking stow's progress through the family blog. he says there is no way for him to know exactly why stow had emergency surgery but fluid build-up and seizures are common in patients in stow's condition. >> let's check the forecast with christina loren. >> good morning to you. we've got a hot day on tap but it won't last long. we're going to see nice changes as we head to your weekend. high pressure in control of the pattern. but let me show you what's coming our way. you see this area of low pressure digging here, that's going to cool us off. tomorrow we drop about 10 degrees. but for somebody who works outside drink a lot of water, seek shade when you can because it will be hot yet again especially in the east bay valleys and the south bay valleys. 54 in san mateo, look at this you're at 48 in novato, 54 santa

>> good morning to you. we look at the hp pavilion. this afternoon two bay area hacking suspects busted by federal agents will appear in federal court on charges of launching cyber attacks on paypal. 14 people across the country now under arrest accused of being members of a hacking group called anonymous. members allegedly attacked the paypal website after it cut off payments to wikileaks. the fbi says the arrests are sendsing a message that hacking for social causes is unacceptable and illegal.

financial reform bill which was signed into law one year ago today. it's designed to be the financial version of the consumer product safety commission, policing unfair deceptive practices by banks for example, mortgage lenders, credit card companies, collection agencies. it's the flash point of controversy. it doesn't have a director yet for example and republicans already want to slash funding. right, paypal has been a driver as you know, scott, of revenue for ebay, now thinking of taking the payment site offline. ebay plans to test a point of sale system in several major retail chains next year that would let you use paypal to pay for items in stores just like you would use a credit or debit card. scott, back to you. >> nicole, thank you. we are already for football. are you ready for a shared stadium that could be the reality for raiders and 49ers fans in the years to come. today in the bay's christie smith is live in oakland this

morning, seems weird, they say this is our house, except it would be somebody else's as well. >> reporter: yeah, that's the confusing part. you know, talk of a new stadium in the bay area, at least funding coming through, probably sounds like a great idea for bay area sports fans. but having the raiders and the niners share that stadium? could that work for fans? would it be like mixing oil and water or maybe oil and wine. both teams confirm they continue to talk about a joint stadium. a new collective bargaining agreement between nfl owners and players which still needs ink appears to open the door for funding but where it would be, this 9er/raider stadium, there has been no agreement on that. the 49ers are still committed to a new stadium in santa clara so that's a possibility. yesterday the city of oakland, they started talking about new plans to build a stadium near o.co where the raiders play.

this mini heat wavee comes to a close after today. but today will be a touch warmer than where we ended up yesterday. especially in concord we're waking up at 65 degrees. now, yesterday was probably the clearest start we saw in the city in over ten days. this morning even clearer. we have a very shallow marine layer out there this morning. if we see any fog, i think it will hug the coast just to the south of the golden gate bridge. 58 in san jose now. on the way to the 90s. 91 degrees at about 4:00 p.m. 94 for fremont, and 85 in oakland. now it is friday eve, trying to make outdoor plans for the weekend we're here to help you out. let's show you your seven-day outlook. throughout the next couple of days, temperatures fall back in the 80s, but that means we're going to have to deal with fog possibly through sunday. then on monday high pressure really builds in as we head through next week, a much hotter week on average. 95 degrees tuesday, 96 wednesday, and temperatures keep
