years that we'll look back at. >> your personal feelings? i imagine you got a sense of nostalgia? >> absolutely. >> sad? >> absolutely. you know, this was the last flight of "atlantis," i commanded the first flight. so it's something you really take to heart when you see the last flight of a vehicle that you put into service. >> nice touchdown, by the way. >> thank you. >> not your first rodeo. >> no. >> the "atlantis's" mission is finished in outer space but it has another one here back on terra firma. sight seeing attractions. soon it will be on display permanently for tourists to see at the kennedy space center. here in nasa ames, bob redell. >> a chance to look at history. thank you, bob. our coverage of "atlantis's" final landing continues at 6:15 when we'll have a live report from the kennedy space center. >> new this morning, fairfield

police think there may be an armed and dangerous man hiding somewhere in a neighborhood after a s.w.a.t. standoff that lasts for hours. an elderly woman called police to her home around 8:20. she told officers her son, michael austin, pointed a gun at her head and choked her almost unconscious. after hours spent trying to coax the suspect out, the s.w.a.t. team burst through the doors to find austin was gone. we'll continue to update you on that story this morning. >> 6:05 now. we also have an update on a very strange attempted kidnapping case in the south bay. a 26-year-old woman is expected in court this morning after trying to take a 3-year-old girl out of the hands of her mother. marla tellez is following the case this morning from san jose. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. take a look. this is the neighborhood where it all happened. we're in the 1200 block of park near meridian, a pretty nice
6:06 am
area, a mix of small businesses, nice homes and apartment complexes, in fact, we're about a mile from the rose garden. police say it was monday night about 9:00 when 26-year-old myra flores approached 3-year-old jasmine and her 14-year-old sister denise playing outside their apartment complex. flores tried to lure jasmine away by offering to buy her chocolate. her teenage sister knew better so she took her sister inside their second story apartment. you know what, flores actually followed them and forced her way inside. and tried snatching jasmine out of the arms of her mother convinced she was her own daughter. >> no, that's my baby and then she tried to grab her, yeah. and my mom tried to stop her and then like the lady was pushing her. after that they were like i called the police.
6:07 am
>> reporter: 14-year-old denise did in fact call 911, but it wasn't until a neighbor intervened that flores took off. >> we're very meticulous about searching for this individual. we found her and able to take her into custody. >> reporter: took police only about 30 minutes to find her about a half block away. flores is being held at the santa clara county jail on $200,000 bail on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and residential burglary. she is due to be arraigned in court today. laura, san jose police at this time they are not commenting on her mental state or saying whether or not she may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. laura. >> hard to believe she couldn't have been but we'll see. thank you very much. 6:07. new information this morning about the man who shot and kill and off duty marin county sheriff's deputy. the ex-convict was allowed to remain on parole even though he was convicted last month on drug charges.
6:08 am
thomas hallerin was sentenced to two years probation for trying to get pills with a fake prescription. officers say he was allowed to remain on parole because the offense was not a violent one. hallerin gunned down a deputy tuesday morning before he was shot and eventually killed. >> we're ready for football. i think. but are you ready for a shared stadium? that could be the reality for raiders and 49ers fans in the years to come. christie smith is live in oakland this morning with more on the stadium plans. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. this is a really easy assignment. we just walked over the coliseum b.a.r.t. station to ask people about this and it was like open mike night. everyone had a very strong opinion about this. that nfl funding may be available for a new bay area stadium which would put pressure on for the raiders and the niners to share. that's right. 9ers fans and raiders fans sharing the same house despite a long time rivalry among the
6:09 am
fans. the back story is a new collective bargaining agreement between the nfl players and owners which needs to be signed may mean that stadium funding is there, both teams confirmed that they are talking about a joint stadium but there isn't an agreement on where that would be. the niners remain committed to santa clara and the city of oakland is talking about a new spot where the raiders already play. and here's how fan this is morning are taking the news. >> we get a new stadium, fine. i have no problem. >> as far as both fans in the same stadium together or trying to share, it would never work. >> why? >> i talked to both sides. to raider fans, 9er fans and just saying that we're going to sit in the stadium and share, we have the battle of the bay all the time it's not going to work. >> reporter: on our nbc bay area facebook page here's what viewers are saying about it. one person wrote, not if it means that the raiders come to
6:10 am
santa clara. another said i'm so against it. of course they wouldn't be there on the same day unless they are playing each other which is something that they already do. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, today in the bay. >> a house divided. divided face paint as well. 6:10 now. i think that face paint would melt off today. especially if you're inland. >> yeah. it's going to be another hot one. you saw that picture of the bay bridge behind laura. very, very little low cloud cover this morning. and as a result we're going to warm up nicely even in the city of san francisco. i've gone with the 80s, almost 5 to 10 degrees above average everywhere across the board. hot inland, low 80s near the coast. by the weekend temps cool down. this will bring about the on shore flow. we're looking at cloudy starts as early as tomorrow that will last through the weekend. then high pressure builds back in with a vengeance. we have really hot weather all
6:11 am
next week. 58 degrees right now in livermore. 65 in concord. 58 in san jose. on the way to 91 degrees in san jose today. if you're looking for cooler weather, the best time of the day will be about noon to 3:00 p.m. in the city of san francisco with mostly clear conditions. 89 in redwood city and 79 in santa cruz. the only area we're noticing the fog is on the golden gate bridge. everywhere else is good. we have about an hour to see if the fog starts to form. we'll watch that for you. someone is watching the roads, mike inouye. >> good morning. i depend on you to let me know what else we can't see. we're following that. livermore, we show a nice drive. you can see the slowing into livermore. i'm circling this spot that kicks off through central livermore. approaching airway. when that kicks off a tougher commute. 17 minutes for that drive. we know thattant wok is tough. 18 minutes on the l street sensor. that 55 continues to see speeds
6:12 am
dipping through bay point approaching 242. the maze is moving very smoothly. the sensors not a problem in the commute direction. no metering lights yet. probably in about 15 minutes. a look at oakland, an idea for the volume. the headlights northbound coming up toward the coliseum where christie is, o dot co, there is more work going on there. >> don't you think half and half face paint will be interesting? >> it will be. >> raider nation. >> 6:12 now. still to come on "today in the bay" muni has a new chief. we'll get you up to speed. and we're going to take you live to the kennedy space center where space shuttle "atlantis" landed for the final time. just a few hours ago. >> a beautiful view from san bruno mountain. look at that.

6:17 am
it's also a sad time for so many who dedicated so much of their lives to this over the last three decades. as they see this chapter in american space exploration come to a close and the uncertainty of what will come next. nasa will focus on deep space work but that won't be manned for sometime. they hope to encounter an asteroid and mars in the next 20 years but again, not manned flight. any of the low orbit man flight like the shuttle was involved with will come through private companies now. private industry, contractors are working to develop the next manned flights that can help take people back to the international space station from american soil. those are three to five years away. most agree it's on the five-year-end. there is a lot of uncertainty. on this day they focus on "atlantis," the program over the last 30 years and celebrate that. >> "today in the bay's" jay gray, thank you. >> thank you.
6:18 am

6:26 am
we have loads of gadgets that access the internet. >> is location, location, location, but stocks are all about timing, timing, timing. shares in zillow.com jumped to around $60 before settling around 35. almost 80% over its ipo price wednesday so. this is a matter of timing. people with early access to the stock made a fortune. others lost half their investment. yet, more pressure on apple as well. to do something with its cash. the company told reporters tuesday it has $76 billion in cash. i looked it up. that's the same as the gdp of peru, twice that of vietnam. the hope is of course that apple will find something to buy with that money, or, return to the investors in the form of a dividend. tech companies don't like giving out dividends. general motors gives out a
