today we begin with back to the drawing board. as the clock ticks down on the country's spotless credit rating, house speaker john boehner is scrambling to rewrite his budget bill after the congressional budget office said his proposed spending cuts failed to meet his estimates. tracie potts joins us from washington with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that spotless credit rating spotless no more in a few days. we'll hear from a couple ratings agencies to day here on capitol hill. they're testifying. meanwhile,john boehner is going back to the drawing board after saying his plan is $150 billion short of the savings he promised. he can only lose 22 republican votes and still get this plan through the house. ten have already said -- ten republicans have already said they won't vote for boehner's plan. conservatives saying this is a deal, not a solution. that's what they're looking for. on the other side, on the senate side, the democratic plan, harry

reid's plan may actually cut more. but it doesn't touch medicare or social security. republicans are saying we need to make deep cuts in real programs. democrats are saying maybe it goes too far. but we actually need to get something done. so we'll vote for it. still, a lot of controversy about that plan. that one, postponed for vote as well. >> all right. tracie potts for us in washington. thank you for that. facing intense pressure step down amid sex allegations david wu will resign. his hometown perry reported last week that a california woman claimed to have an unwanted sexual encounter with wu. following the report, wu said he would not seek re-election. yet he would stay in office until the end of his term. but fellow democrats put the pressure on wu who's raised eyebrows in the past sending a photo of himself in a tiger costume to staff members. he gave into calls and left

nuclear disarmament talks. the judge in the casey anthony trial is delaying the release of the names of jurors until october. he says he's concerned with their safety following their not guilty verdict and he wants to wait until things cool off. earlier this week, hundreds of tourists from around the world protested in peru after being denied entry into the ruins. it is being limited because of damage created by visitors. in england, a woman was rescued after her car veered off the road, plunged down a cliff. she was trapped in her car for 20 hours before she was spotted and brought to safety. and in philadelphia, one of the nation's earliest post offices in a building once owned by benjamin franklin, the first post master general may be shutting down. it's on the postal service's list of nearly 3700 branches that could be closed to save

once again, stocks fell victim to debt deal pressure tuesday and it's only going to get worse until the issue is finally resolved. it was a dow's third straight down day, eight of ten s&p 500 company groups fell within only teches and telecoms rising. nasdaq stayed close to even thanks to tech suck us is. broadcom led the way jumping 10%. chinese search engine baidu rose 5%, a day after forecasting higher than expected revenue. 3m dragged down the dow posting results that met general estimates but softness in some divisions brought shares down. ford also beat expectations but was down due to its caution about future demand. netflix slid again after warning red hot subscriber growth would cool this quarter. ups fell after warning the uneven economy could affect its results. us steel fell 8% after warning

in new york, the seattle mariners lost 16 in a row. so it was almost unfair that they had to face yankee ace cc sabathia. here's fred rowiggin with an eay look at your headlines. cc sabathia well on his game to pitching a perfect game, then came the rain. sabathia dealing against the mariners struck out ten in the first five innings. at one point, seven in a row. then the heavens opened. usually a pitcher's day would be over. but with perfection on the line, sabathia came back. it wasn't meant to be. brendan ryan singled in the seventh. cc finished with 14 strikeouts but no perfect game. yankees won 4-1. from great pitching to great running, phillies and giants, chase utley took barry zito deep. utley was off to the races. he missed two months with a knee injury this season. he got the green light to come home and beat the throw to the plate. a home run the hard way.
