passengers on the plane are telling their stories. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that plane landed around 2:00 this morning at sfo. flight 1755 never theft runway at miami international airport. that happened last night. one passenger took pictures. the plane returned to the gate when flight attendants say the passenger seemed drunk and causing disruptions, when another passenger jumped in and apparently hit one of the crew members. the second passenger contended his friend was on medication and not drunk. the police arrested the two passengers, while other passengers looked on. >> they were standing there arguing with the captain. they did not want to leave and did not want to get off the plane. then one of the guys punched the captain right in the eye here on his face and then that's when the captain backed up and all of the other guys from the airplane started getting in on it.

>> reporter: a new crew member had to be called in to replace the injured crew member. american airlines believes both unruly passengers are actually related. this is a case, again, other passengers also jumped in to try to help out in this situation. we'll have more for you later on in this newscast. we're live at sfo. damian trujillo, "today in the bay." >> interesting. thank you. san francisco police are looking for a serial bank robber wloo stroong armed the same branch in two weeks. investigators released pictures of the suspect who robbed the fire credit union on monday. since the robber showed the teller handgun and demanded cash. he left 18 late 90s car, possibly a 7 ro lay. we have a follow-up to a story we brought you yesterday, the 13-year-old boy is speaking to nbc bay area. police say he was walking with a

friend in ericson park on monday when he bumped into two other teenage boy who is asked if he belonged to a gang. when he told them know they attacked him. the boy found himself on the ground. we're not showing you his face to protect his identity. >> as soon as it happened the first two time is felt in my back and i realized i got stabbed. so i went across the street i put my hand in my shirt, felt the blood. >> the 13-year-old lost a lot of blood and his kidneys were slashed. he survived and his family is happy he is home. police arrested three, two are in juvenile hall t others in the main jail. the teens accused of setting a elementary school on fire and causing millions in damages has apparently confessed. the teens did not plan to set trace elementary on fire, it was just an idea that came to them

as we were walking home. both 16-year-olds confessed. each boy will be charged as an adult. >> the controversial circumcision ban proposed for the november ballot in san francisco faces a court challenge. san francisco's superior court judge issued a tentative ruling saying the measure 1 withdrawn because it serves no legitimate purpose. she scheduled to hold a hearing at 9:30 this morning. the measure has prompted claims of discrimination from religion which honor the practice. a san francisco man who spear headed getting the matter on the ballot will be attending today's hearing. i want to check the forecast. >> a pretty nice start. except on the coast fog. right now we have 50s across the board as the sea breeze is

turning weaker, what this is going to do is allow inland temperatures to climb. especially east of concord down to almost. you'll see warmer temperatures. still in the fog and the coast. as we lose the ocean air, it's not a spare the air day but moderate air quality for the east bay valleys. temperatures from the 70s around oakland to the cool 60s for san francisco. 80s in san jose, then as you head north down 101 to morgan hill and gilroy some low 90s. away from the bay, lake port and ukiah. we'll kick off the weekend and trending cooler next week. >> we'll take you out to the south bay. so far the northbound ride will have light volume but as we do every thursday remind folks music in the park will have

to dump the space station in the ocean. as long as -- the plan has been in the work, it will be done to avoy the situation for the station becoming space junk. 2020 or later is likely. the international space station is the largest opening outpost built. >> nearly 11 months since the pipe line explosion at san bruno. much of the neighborhood remains empty. that is about to change. marla tellez is live in san bruno with more on the rebuilding process expected to start today. good morning. >> it's all part of what's called the blen view reconstruction project. we're on glenview drive. behind us it's too early and dark to show you. the process to rebuild expected this morning.

crews are expected to be out here in hours. at a meeting last night hosted by the city of san bruno, which also included a pg&e spokesperson, the people who live in this neighborhood learned the first order of business as of this morning will be digging up the abandoned section of pipe that blew almost a year ago. that has not been active since the 1950s. now wanting to pull it from the ground north of the grass, it will be turned over to investigators. many people who are here living here, they are frustrated. this hasn't been done sooner as their neighborhood still isn't whole. >> i want to see everything back together again. they are all building at the same time i don't care. get these people back in their homes. >> translator: city manager says the major crater that serves as constant reminder will be filled

>> welcome back everyone. live look outside. that's a haze we're talking about at the golden gate bridge. looking the 0 for relief, head to the coast. we'll have more on that coming up. 5:11. the agency in charge of planning bay area roads and transportation hitting the road itself. leaving oakland for san francisco. the metropolitan transportation commission voted yesterday to set up its new headquarters in san francisco. the agency will spend $180 million to buy and remodel an existing building on main street. oakland leaders are puzzled. they question the quick decision and say they never had a chance to convince the mtc to stay. >> five days left until the deadline to raise the national debt limit. senate democrats say they will not support the gop plan that is currently being passed around the house. if that's true t negotiations could be back to square one.

i'll have a live report on the debt negotiations coming up. for a look at how the markets are reacting this morning we turn to "today in the bay's" nicole lapin. good morning. >> hey, good morning to you. markets aren't reacting much. we're pretty flat but i got to say that's after a huge reaction yesterday. but a big market sell-off n. vesters growing nervous over the debt ceiling. the house is set to vote on speaker boehner's plan but he might not have enough votes and democrats are going to oppose the bill. the treasury department is warning that it's going to run out of cash next tuesday, setting the stage for the first ever u.s. default. asian markets were down overnight. europe is also in the red. we get some employment data stateside on jobless claims so we're going to watch that. pending home sales are coming out and earnings reports, but

just to recap. it wasn't pretty toward the end of the session, the dow up, 12,3 12,302. president obama plans to announce new fuel economy standards at an event on friday. the rules apply to cars and light trucks for model years 2017-2025. the administration has been negotiating with automakers on boosting fuel efficiency. the white house reduced its proposal to have vehicles average 54 miles per gallon. back in 2009 they agreed to 35 miles per gallon. so that's not going to happen. you won't be able to bring home few extra towels or bath robes or i don't know what you're doing there. the next time cao on vacation, "usa today" says a growing number of hotels are putting those items on an electronic --

air quality starting to take a hit. if we get a weaker sea breeze inland valleys see it drop off. in the moderate range. we'll keep an eye and see if this creeps into the unhealthy come tomorrow. we have high pressure the main player. in fact, building out of the desert southwest. this moisture in phoenix and tucson push it back to southern california. maybe by the weekend we might see this creep close to our neighborhood. so in the meantime, the ma rooen layer has been switched to the coast. this brought foggy conditions to the coast. for the weekend we'll watch this to the east. some of that moisture may spill to the mountains for the weekend. southern california, 70s around l.a. and san diego, palm springs, 107, 76 look outstanding today. foggy for monterey.

researchers at san francisco state are studying how fast your car can heat up. they found the temperature inside can get 19 degrees higher than the outside temperature in ten minutes. do not leave your kids or pets alone in the car. ever. even if it's just for a few minutes. officers will meet with the safe kids program in redwood city to highlight the dangers of hot cars. tragic when we have to do those stories. 5:22 now. time to check that morning commute. >> good morning, i posted the information on the event on our facebook fan page as well. we're checking for slowdowns for highway 4. none for antioch though typical slowing yesterday and this area, the return to the slowdown. we haven't seen that about a week, a week and a half. so slow yesterday through this portion of your east bay commute. heading to the bay bridge, the

maze holds up with nice speed so far. no incidents for pretty much any of the areas that are frequented by our commuters this morning. no freeways have outstanding issues. we'll follow an earlier closure. eastbound 92 heading to 880, that cleared up early this afternoon. you may have to be rerouted. you'll get back on 880, the san mateo bridge moves smoothly. a little slow on the right. slow-moving on the right. i'll track that. things are moving nicely. here's the golden gate bridge. the fog is there. we can see the lights to the south tower from the north bay and also the santa cruz mountains. >> thanks, mike. i've:23. new video from a store bombing. it shows the force behind the bomb, how strong it was, as it blew out the store's windows.

you see there. even though it faced away from that blast. eight people were killed at the bombing. enders breivik confessed to the shooting rampage that killed at least 68 additional people. a san francisco woman's ror fiing experience as the website on the defensive. >> good morning. the website is air b and b and helps you find extra cash by hooking up with travelers. a woman in the city says she wented out her apartment to someone who ended up stealing most of her stuff and trashing the apartment. she made the claim in a blog post. she claims she is working with sfpd on the matter. it's doubled the the number of customer service agents at the start up but not legally liable it says for what happened.

we've been accused of being a pessimist about the recovery. at least i have. i'm not sure the success of facebook mean taes economy is stable. the networks that make equipments to connect you, the company's share price fell by more than 20% yesterday as it said sales were slowing. in a few hours your overall value fell by $3.5 billion. who sells having a hard time. nintendo, lost money probably because so much is savings are in dollars and not the yet and the dollar is crumping. sales of 3-ds not hot either. it will cut the price from $250 to $170. weirdly that price cut won't take effect until mid august. so why any one would buy a 3 ds.

and staring at empty lots for almost a year now. at a meeting last night they got some answers. they learned pg&e crews will be out here as of this morning to start the rebuilding process, though the first system isn't as glamorous as you might think. crews will begin digging up the section of pipe part of the gasline that blew. this stretch has not been active since the mid 1950s. it will be turned over to investigators. while this is progress it's not necessarily enough for people who live here and see the empty after method. >> in the backyard, in our canyon, they had to remove 132 trees that burnt down. we want to know if they are planting trees because we were promised there would be trees planted in the spring. >> reporter: the city manager

says that trees will be planted in the coming weeks. also the biggest eye score is the crater that will be filled in by early august. that's also according to san bruno city manager. and the road closures could be lifted by september. pg&e crews are expected to be out here as of 8:00 and say the work will take about two days. the big question is what caused that deadly blast on september 9. that's handled by the ntsb board. and that group says they should release their findings by september 9 which would mark one year. >> hard not to look at that area, such a tragic place. thank you, marla. it's 5:32. two men are in custody after a police chase that spanned several freeways. the chase ended in the central valley before 11:00 last night.

they are not the murder suspects thought they were chasing. turns out the car was connected to murders in colorado but the men inside are not. officers are looking for jaime cardenas and janel silva. they are also accused of a triple shooting. the chase began before 8:00 where police spotted the car. the driver took off, doubled back to 880 north, all the way to oakland, and then snaked onto 980. then eastbound 580 until they were stopped near tracy. the suspects ended up on interstate 5. police used spike trips to stop them. >> 5:33. livermore police are investigating a suspicious death this morning. police found the body of a man

on wednesday. investigators are calling it suspicious because there were no signs of trauma or visible cause of death. they say the person who reported the death is not cooperating with police. >> an oakland man dedicated to helping the less fortunate after someone opened fire on him and his family as they were feeding the homeless. what police are saying about the search for the good samaritan. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. he is known as brother john. he and his family were delivering food in oakland. after midnight. they chose that because it was easier to find people than in broad daylight. they were doing that and someone shot at them. this morning the search is on for the shood shooter. this has shaken veteran police

officers. the three were in their van driving their route delivering meals near 47th avenue. they had given a meal to a man when someone drove up and opened fire. brother john was shot in the head, his waive grazed and their 3-year-old step daughter hit in the arm. the latter two expected to be okay. we have calls in highland hospital where brother john was listed on life support. for friends this is is hard to understand. >> he's a man of god. gives food f. he has time he'll pull over and give a prayer. even a prayer behind the food. so, i don't know why things like this happen to good people. >> reporter: police aren't really sure what the motive is here. this guy was just trying to do a good deed. i have calls in to the homicide department for an update.

investigators are looking at a number of scenarios from maybe a mistaken identity or a execute. there is a $25,000 reward for information leading to the shooter. christie smith, today in the bay. >> the parolee wrongly accused of attacking bryan stow is asking to be released prom prison. his attorneys filed documents seeking immediate release of their client. they say the parole card caved in when it ordered ramirez to return to jail on a parole violation. police found a gun while searching for evidence connected to the stow beating. the lapd publicly exonerated ramirez by announcing two others had been arrested and charged in that attack. 5:36 now. time to check the forecast with rob rob. >> it is for inland later on we'll see more conditions

especially around the east bay and morgan hill. depending where you are you'll run into thick fog and mist. the sea breeze is out there but not as strong. this will lead to inland temperatures reaching 90s. no worries about monsoon moisture out of the desert southwest heading to the bay area. that might change as we head to the weekend as the desert high builds. some of that may drift up from southern california. as high pressure builds, we have the item to watch for the weekend hoping to see if we have thunderstorms as some of the moisture does spill out of the desert for the weekend. around the weekend, toasty around livermore and pleasanton. morgan hill one of the warmer spots down to gilroy, 84 for petaluma and 95 around vacaville. next three days the hottest of

your next several day forecast. we'll see cooling temperatures as the sea breeze turns stronger. more than the patchy low clouds. >> rob, we'll take you to the east bay. the disabled vehicle is in your commute direction at university avenue but on the shoulder, a narrow shoulder. we'll watch that. if you have been stuck on the side of the road it's harrowing situation. 580 a new disabled vehicle. cleared from the report. so that shouldn't be a problem. that's great. so let's look toward something still going on. onto the northbound 101. constructions that on ramp closed. you see the construct. 101 between 37 and san pedro road there is constroux we'll see the slower sensors. there may be fog through the area as well. we'll keep our eyes on things.

raise the debt ceiling but it may never make it to the president's desk. tracie potts is live with a look at the scramble to get this debt deal done. good morning. >> reporter: it's a scramble but are they moving anywhere? democrats say this is dead in the water even if it does pass the house. it's the boehner plan that we've been talking about. the republican plan to cut about a trillion dollars turns out it's a little less than that. it's the money that both sides essentially agreed on and then they'd have a commission to look at more cuts in the fall. conservative republicans say it's not enough, they are holding the line. they want more. democrats say with that small amount of cuts, a trillion doesn't seem small but on the large scheme of thing, that we could suffer a loss in our credit rating and everyone's interest rates would soar. bottom line, john boehner is trying to pull together enough sport but even if he does it's probably not going to pass

girl monday near grant road and richardson avenue. the girl set up a lemonade sand when a man pulled up in a black pickup truck, flashed the girl and drove off. police are working on a sketch of the suspect. gosh, the innocence of the lemonade stand. >> a south bay woman accused of busting into a home trying to grab a young girl will be in court. 26-year-old myra flores will be arraigned. police say the 3-year-old girl was playing with her sister in the front yard on july 18 when flores tried to coax her away with candy. the two ran inside and flores allegedly followed trying to pull the child away from her mother. the mother fought flores off and called 911. >> alex trebek is on crutches after he found himself in a case of jeopardy. he woke up early yesterday morning to find a woman

there, southwest of 12 through fairfield but this is backing off a little over the next couple of days which will lead to not only air quality taking a hit around the east bay and santa clara valley but the same locations will see temperatures in the 90s as we approach the afternoon. the west coast satellite does not have a lot of active weather. high pressure kind of keeping things fairly tame around the bay area. to the southwest our high is going to build back to southern california. we're going to watch that monsoon moisture to perhaps get ever so close to the bay area as we head to the weekend so. for the meantime the next two day, 90s inland and a marine layer on the coast bringing around thick fog in spots, then for the weekend watching the moisture up out of the south. looks dry around the bay but may see thundershowers flaring up around some of the hill tops toward the south by the time we get to saturday afternoon and sunday. if you head into southern california we're going to see the heat around deserts around palm springs, l.a., 78.

and tsunami in japan will be returning to that country. san jose's cannon purdy will be attending a graduation ceremony at the school she taught which was caught up in the march devastation. the 25-year-old made headlines when her family asked the "today" show host ann curry to help find her. purdy was located at a refugee camp and was able to contact her family during a live broadcast. she looks forward to returning but says life is a struggle there. >> still a struggle especially with the people still living in the evacuation centers. therapeutic to be with people who know what it was like and see that they have moved on or doing well hopefully. >> purdy will stay in japan for five weeks. she's donating money raised by her family to help the school students during this very difficult time.
