look at san jose, this is "today in the bay." >> good morning everyone. happy friday. it's 4:30. let's check the forecast and meteorologist rob mayeda. >> happy friday to you. we look at our temperatures hour by hour, breakfast time, 50s with patchy low clouds like yesterday morning. and much like yesterday, inland temperatures will make a run into the 90s as we approach 4:00. the warmest places, livermore, 87 in san jose, 68 around san francisco. for the weekend we'll see the temperatures holding steady. one item, a chance of mountain thunder south of santa cruz for the weekend. a look at a tough commute earlier on 580. >> earlier than this, there is an earlier than 4:30. i sent out a tweet at the dublin interchange. it has reopened. the connector, the commute direction on 680 reopened.

and smooth drive through livermore. a new accident report in this area, actually toward the bay bridge. updates on those in the next report. >> thank you much. remembering his life but struggling with his death, an oakland woman mourning her husband shot and killed while feeding the homeless. 29-year-old was delivering food to the homeless on 47th avenue wednesday morning when someone in a turquoise van started shooting. he was hit in the head, his wife grazed by a bullet. their 3-year-old baby girl shot but will be okay. she and her husband routinely fed the homeless. it was their mission. >> a great person. he's still out there somewhere that i might even run into him and not know that he murdered my husband for no reason. whoever he is. it's not fair. i almost lost my daughter.

>> powell is convinced it was a case of mistaken identity. the family is planning a candlelight vigil at the shooting scene. >> a student is dead killed not by the disease but by a bullet allegedly fired by his father. sources tell the "mercury news" 50-year-old amad shot his 22-year-old son andrew before turning the gun on himself in their home. andrew was a senior at the university of san diego, taking a leave of absence after undergoing a blood and marrow transplant. before college he was a stand-out basketball player at valley christian high school in san jose. >> this morning friends and family will remember the life of a fallen officer killed not in the line of duty but while helping a friend. a people willial service for marin county deputy sheriff jim mathiason, the 49-year-old shot and killed last tuesday by the ex-boyfriend of a family friend

at a home near petaluma. 1200 people are expected at the auditorium at 9:30 this morning. >> 4:33. also this morning, san francisco police have the gun that fired a deadly shot that -- during a controversial police shoot-out two weeks ago but they don't have the person who took the gun from the crime scene. according to ballistic test this is is the gun that 19-year-old kenneth harding used to shoot himself after running away from police in the bay view. it disappeared shortly after the shoot-out. officers say a person who lives in that neighborhood led them to the semi-automatic pistol. harding and officers got in a shoot-out july 16 after police tried to stop him from skipping out on a muni fare. harding a parolee was also a person of interest in the murder of a pregnant woman. >> alameda firefighters infamous for standing on the shore while watching a drowning man on memorial day weekend now say

they warned the city years ago of the danger of shelving their water rescue unit. the oakland tribune reports that the council was told that a water rescue unit was necessary more than two years before the drowning. the firefighters union says it sent a letter to the city in february 2009. firefighters say they weren't allowed to save the drowning man on memorial day weekend because they weren't trained to go in the water though they did participate in a similar rescue a few weeks later. we're hearing from the teacher who jumped a fence to save a girl and her daughter from drawning. jeff was home near valco mall when he heard a cry for help. the teacher says he ran out, saw a man trying to pull the girl and her father from the bottom of a pool. he used his cpr training to help the girl start breathing, then helped revive the father. he doesn't see himself as a hero but someone who simply did the

right thing. >> it's what you're supposed to do. it's how you react and what you're supposed to do. i feel confident if i was in that situation other people would have stepped up. >> the girl and her father may have been at the bottom of the pool for a couple of minutes before they were discovered. both are now back at home and they are recovering. >> 4:36. he chase add robbery suspect out of his hotel, now alex trebek will be off of his feet for six weeks. he will have surgery today to repair his ruptured achilles tendon, he injured himself chasing a woman who broke into his hotel room wednesday morning. the 56-year-old is still in jail accused of making off with his wallet and other itemperatures.: that accusation could be her third strike under california law. he burglarized two homes 20 years ago. she's back in court on monday. >> let's check again with rob and check out the weekend

off last we talked. looking at the altamont pass, a smooth drive to the dublin interchange. that sigalert we told you about, that cleared after 40 minutes. watch it on the roads. there is other stuff like this couch getting cleared. right around the canyon, crews should have that cleared shortly. use caution as you see those lights. castro valley moves, and the approach to the maze we don'ts see problems. of course it's 4:38 so we don't expect a lot of traffic but we have an accident away from the bay bridge eastbound 80 toward the golden gate field area at buchanan street and on the side of the road, a tow truck arrived. move over to the left if you can to allow extra space. back to the bay bridge, a live look, it's darker than we typically see. some low clouds but you can see the bridge moving smoothly.

i'm going to sends it out to christie smith. i hear you're hitting the catwalk. are you doing modeling? >> i'm sorry, i couldn't hear you. we are talking about the catwalk. if you're talking about my modeling career that's on hold right now. but basically, we drove by these catwalks for workers with nerves of steal. they are hanging at a 35-degree angle off of the tower on the west side. if you had driven it you may have noticed two of them off, there is another one hanging off of the east side. the oakland side. this is a big part of the construction because essentially the workers walk up these very steep ramps, they are about 12 feet wide and what they are doing is they are using a mile of suspension cable, that's the ultimate plan, that will wrap around the tower 500 feet above sea level and workers are tethered to these as they work

>> it's just before 8:00 in the morning in washington, d.c., lawmakers have gotten their starbuck, headed back to work to talk about the budget. they have got four days until the country's checks start bouncing and still no end in sight to the debt limit debate. a vote that was supposed to happen last night did not because republican speaker john boehner couldn't rally enough votes in his own party. he will meet with republicans again this morning to try to sway tea party conservatives, while lawmakers battle over cutting the deficit the treasury department says it could come up with an emergency plan that focuses only on extending the country's borrowing limit. >> a clean debt ceiling vote and then continuing on with this conversation, or failing that,

14th amendment option is what is in front of us. >> as you try to remember, the 14th amendment that allows the president to protect. the white house seems reluctant to use that. a slam dunk for starbucks. news before the bell nicole lapin. i'm sure the debt issue is a major problem. >> major as well and we'll get to those in a second. futures are lower following the news out of washington that the house debt ceiling vote has been postponed again. stocks were mixed yesterday as the stalemate worries investors. markets were boosted with bosstive economic data. that pushed asian markets lower and europe is lower this morning. we do get some of our own data but not expected to be as good as yesterday. looking at a first look at second quarter gdp that's expected to be below 2%.

we're supposed to be around 3% around this time of the recovery and the risk there is to the down side so watch for that. the dow dropping yesterday, 12,240, the nasdaq gained a bit, 1.5 points, 2766. moody's investors service placed 177 municipal bonds on downgrade review as it re-evaluates its rating. included in the announcement, 162 local governments, 14 housing finance programs, and the university of washington. moody's says the possible downgrade from the dependence on the federal government and potential funding issues following a u.s. debt default. duncan brand is getting off to a pretty strong start on wall street. some say wall street is run on dunkin. it started trading 47% of a jump is what we saw in the stock so far, by the close parent company

two different men, jonathan bias and his brother were arraigned. they were pulled off of a flight at miami international airport after they allegedly became belligerent and attacked the pilot. >> the berkeley hikers jailed in iran for almost two years will finally have their day in court. 3 are they are expected at a hearing. it will be the final hearing in their case. fattal, bauer and sarah shord were arrested when they allegedly crossed into iran. shourd was released on bail, iranian officials ordered her back for trial. that after all is what bail is, but she says she will not go. let's look at what's happening later today in the bay. for that we say good morning to laura. >> good morning to you, scott. good morning everyone. we're following the overnight developments in the debate over the debt ceiling. house republicans will try to
