just the clothes on her back today, wednesday, august 3rd, 2011. captions paid for by nbc-universal television and good morning. welcome to "today" on a wednesday morning. i'm matt lauer. >> i'm ann curry. perhaps no surprise that the president is moving to quickly put the debt showdown behind him by returning to the campaign trail. >> however, it appears investors are not all that excited with the deal that was reached. after months of heated debate. the dow dropped 266 points on tuesday. that's its largest drop in the string of eight straight days of decline. we'll have more on the law's impact on washington and wall street coming up straight ahead. also this morning, disturbing new videotape recorded by phillip garrido and his wife as they lured a young

girl into their van. it was made two years after the kidnapping of jaycee dugard. also ahead, a controversial new way that some young women are paying off their college debts. coming up, one coed who turned to the internet to find herself a so-called sugar daddy. we'll talk more about that. >> especially in these economic times. also, after attending another lavish royal wedding, kate is seen once again, this time doing her own grocery shopping. coming up, how her frugal touch is already rubbing off on the rest of the royal family. here she's even carrying her own bags. other big names stopping by today, from ryan reynolds to jason bateman, ricky gervais and tony bennett. >> a girl's dream. what's next for president obama and lawmakers on capitol hill now that the debt showdown is over. chuck todd is nbc's chief white house correspondent. chuck, good morning to you.

>> reporter: good morning, matt. after a month-long break the president returns to the campaign trail tonight with a birthday fund raiser in chicago, trying to put behind him this debt ceiling debate which turned into yet for him another contentious confrontation with congress. >> voters may have chosen divided government, but they sure didn't vote for dysfunctional government. >> reporter: trying to put himself on the side of frustrated americans, the president didn't claim credit for the $2.5 trillion deficit reduction deal that he signed quickly into law in private tuesday. he simply changed the subject. >> they want us to solve problems. they want us to get this economy growing and adding jobs. and while deficit reduction is part of that agenda, it is not the whole agenda. >> reporter: the debt ceiling debate played out at a time when there are warning signs of a fragile economic recovery may be stalling. employment is down, unemployment rate at a painful 9.2%. the nation's economic growth rate has been revised downward for the rest of the year. and many of the world's

economies are struggling as well. on tuesday, the white house released a series of photos showing the president meeting with white house officials and congressional leaders. for the past month, washington has been at a stand still as the only issue on the agenda has been the debt ceiling. >> the ayes are 74, nays, 26. >> reporter: despite a large bipartisan majority supporting the deal, nobody liked it. >> i will support this legislation but with very serious reservations. >> i reluctantly cannot support it. >> to say that the legislation before us is not ideal is truly an understatement. >> this is not the best possible bill, but it's the best bill possible. >> with a heavy heart, there are parts of it that i will struggle to explain and defend. >> almost everything else about this deal stinks, and it stinks to high heaven. >> reporter: and it was equally hard to figure out if the president or congress comes out a winner or a loser. >> the president was mugged.

and when you survive a mugging, you don't talk about what happened to the president. you say, hey, we survived. >> he has now a clear path to january 2013 where you don't have to deal with this issue anymore. in that regard, he was a winner. >> if you want to pick one, i think congress looked far worse than the president did. >> reporter: well, august is going to be about the white house and the president trying to repair his image. in one critical part of the country, the midwest, he plans a mid-month tour, a bus tour of the midwest, probably hitting states like iowa, wisconsin, ohio, michigan, places where his approval rating has really gone down. >> chuck todd, thank you for your reporting from the white house this morning. jim cramer is the host of cnbc's "mad money." good morning. >> good morning. >> the markets are rattled for not having a deal, a long wait, but on the day the deal was signed, the markets still plunged 2%. >> yes. >> why is wall street not happy with this deal? >> recession. all people can talk about is the whole slowdown that washington

triggered, manufacturing crisis that the president mentioned has made it so that all business has slowed down. jobless, probably not going to be so great. sales, bad. we're hearing company after company saying washington created a huge mess. not going away. >> to what degree did the spending cuts call for in this bill have an influence in this recession? >> a trillion dollars lost in the stock market. much of the loss is associated with companies that were doing well because of government -- some people call it handouts, i would call it spending. i think that is a huge part of the decline. suddenly realize big sugar daddy is gone away. >> you mentioned jobs. one group, liberal leaning economic policy says the economy could lose 1.8 million in the next year due to the cuts. is that too much? >> too dark. i think we're going to muddle through here. that would be a setback to the 2008-2009 great recession. not going to happen. way too doom and gloom. >> you did mention the jobs numbers. they were not good in june. new numbers come out for july. this coming friday. prediction?

>> july is a really tough month in this country. i don't see a lot of people getting hired. i saw a lot of layoffs. it won't be disastrous. nothing is disastrous. it's just not so hot. >> manufacturing production barely grew in july. consumer spending dropped in june for the first time in almost two years. economic growth for the first half of the year at its slowest pace since the recession ended. are we now starting to see the outline of a new recession? >> yes. plain and simple. if things don't pick up, they're trending down. this is, again, not a mass unemployment about to occur, not something i would describe as being catastrophic but we're slipping back. unless we see some job growth in the near future, we're not going to be back to where we were a couple of years ago but we're going to be down. >> do you see anything that's going to create this -- some job growth that you just talked about? >> that's the problem, i don't. i don't have a catalyst. i never come on this show and say, look, the world is coming to an end. it isn't this time. but i don't have anything good to tell you.

i don't see any reason to hire because there is so much new regulation, so many difficulties coming from washington. our trade partners are not doing well, either, china, russia, india, brazil. all raising rates. and europe is just terrible. >> in this season we talked about earlier, earlier this year the double dip concern, is that what we're talking about? is this the double dip? >> double dip implies one dip is worse or equal to the other. this dip, and we are having one, is not going to be what i would regard as being nearly as horrible as what we had. >> jim cramer, thank you. i appreciate your perspective. we need good news. >> i'm trying. looking for it everywhere. >> you can catch "mad money" week nights at 6:00, 11:00 p.m. eastern time on cnbc. now a check of the other top stories from natalie morales. hey, natalie. good morning. >> good morning to you, ann. good morning, everyone. in his first public appearance since the uprising, hosni mubarak appeared in a cairo court today on a stretcher and behind a cage. nbc's martin fletcher is in cairo with more.

martin? >> reporter: natalie, it's almost unbelievable. a dramatic historic day here. after 30 years of total power, hosni mubarak, 83 years old, wheeled into the courtroom on a stretcher, checked inside a metal cage with his two sons who also, by the way, are accused of corruption with him. mubarak didn't seem frail despite his lawyer's claims he was too weak to stand trial. the charges, corruption and the ordering of killing of protesters, 860 killed by security forces in the protests in january. for this, mubarak faces the death penalty. today he said he categorically denies all charges. the opening of the trial was on egyptian tv and achieved many things here that they say, this is not punishing mubarak, this is a warning to whoever follows him as a leader. whatever you do, you're honorable to the people. this is a revolution. natalie? >> all right, martin, such a striking image there in cairo,

egypt. as lawmakers on recess for the next month the government stands to lose more than $1 billion in airline taxes. the federal aviation administration remains partially shut down. 4,000 faa employees have been furloughed, and with hundreds of construction projects now on hold, thousands of other workers risk losing their jobs, as well. some passengers are due tax refunds if they bought at this times and paid taxes before the shutdown went into effect two weeks ago. this morning tropical storm emily is turning toward haiti where more than half million people are still without shelter after last year's december stating earth quake. officials are working around the clock to protect residents from what could become deadly flooding. heavy rain is expected to arrive there around noon today. a new hampshire town searching for answers will have to keep waiting after an autopsy to find out what killed 11-year-old celina cass was in inclusive. cass was pulled from a river near her home one week after she vanished.

investigators say further toxicology tests are needed. but cass' death remains suspicious. the white house had an uninvited guest last night. not a gate crasher but a gate jumper. the secret service nabbed a homeless man who climbed over the north fence of the white house tuesday night. he was wearing a backpack that was confiscated and searched by an explosives team. a mayor in lithuania really doesn't like when you park in his city's bike lanes. so he grabbed a soviet tank and ran over an offender's mercedes. the staged stunt sends a strong message that this mayor will do anything to keep cyclists riding freely. it is now 7:11. back over to matt, ann, and al. we might need something like that in new york city. >> i think that the people in that mercedes have a suit. >> you are a brilliant man. >> i want to get me one of those. >> joyride. >> natalie, thanks very much. mr. roker, what's going on?

>> if you don't know, this is a nice moment of play time. authorities say the woman is nancy garrido. >> oh, i do not know -- >> the man behind the camera is nancy's husband, phillipl4@lo garrido. this is one of more than a dozen video, taken by a couple documenting how they tried to lure young girls into their world. >> they could have assaulted the child and luringed them away. >> authorities say, this was take they abducted jaycee dugard. they held her against her will for 18 year. he raped dugard and fathered two children all while still on parole. >> while he was seeking to be released from custody. after being convicted. he was able to manipulate psychologists and psychiatrists to basically do his bidding and recommend early releases on his behalf. >> eldorado county prosecutors

released the video as part of their investigation into the parole system. despite numerous visits to the garrido's home. >> what does the agent do for the parolee? >> in this video, taken by nancy garrido, you can see how they are harassing the parole agent, as he tried to look around the property. ♪ >> reporter: in another video, nancy video acts as though she's taping her husband singing and playing a guitar, only to pan over to a young girl on a1u playground behind him. nancy told investigators she made as nearly as 20 videos like this for her husband so he can watch them over and over again. >> these videos can be used for a number of purposes, number one to enhance the feeling he has of control and power of nom nance. this becomes a library to relive these events and lastly almost a training video where he can see

what type of concepts work. >> the authorities did not release information about the girl in the video. but eldorado county investigators hope their report will create new laws about the release of dangerous felons. for its part, the california department of corrects said they've already acknowledged the need for changes. and has already made significant improvements to the parole system. matt. >> tamryn, thank you very much. it is 7:16, here's ann. >> summer is a great time to spend a relaxing day in the sun. for one sunbather, that enjoyment quickly turned into tragedy. nbc's mark potter has more. good morning. >> good morning to you, about 100 year, a big draw for visitor, you can drive your car on same beach where you go sunbathing, but the problem with that combination, it has led to another serious accident. >> reporter: on an outing to daytona beach.

33-year-old erin was on her blanket, enjoy the sand and sun, when she was ran over by a truck from the beach patrol as her family watched in horror. >> i thought it was doing a u-turn and turned and ran over a lady lying prone on the sand. >> reporter: in photographs from the incident it appears he rolled over her head. rescuers secured her to a flat board and took her to a local hospital for intensive care treatment where doctors say she would survive. authorities say the driver was a 20 2 1-year-old part-time lifeguard in a lane designated for vehicles when a pedestrian told him there was glass on the beach. >> at that time, he attempted to do a right-hand turn. there was no speed involved. he did a gentle right-hand turn with a lady laying on the towel. >> reporter: officials say this is the third accident within a year involving beach patrol vehicles. there were also two fatalities on area beach, both involving

4-year-old children struck by visitors. >> i'm shocked there's not at least ten people a day, because they are not way paying tension. >> reporter: cars on daytona beach is an early tradition. dating to the 190 os. road races were held on the sand. in light of the accidents, county officials are now reviewing procedures. >> we're beginning to take a very hard look at the way we managed the beach in terms of the vehicle use. >> reporter: officials say to ban cars from the beach now would cost millions of dollars. >> what we have to do is start proposing by buying off-beach parking. we're working on a plan to buy off-beach parking so it wouldn't literally shut down tourism overnight. >> reporter: as for the woman struck by the truck over the weekend, the hospital said her condition is upgraded to stable. as for the young man driving the truck, police say they are completing their report and after that, he likely will be

telling her to show up was made with reckless disregard for her due process and civil rights. just minutes before the cloak of the court's office closed on tuesday defense attorney cheney mason filed a motion arguing there's no reason for casey acquitted of murdering her daughter caylee, to now report to a probation officer. >> do you feel that casey is obligated to show up to the department of corrections tomorrow? >> no, i do not. >> because? >> she's -- >> reporter: in the defense motion filed with the court cheney mason included this january document from the department of corrections that tells casey, you are hereby notified that you completed your terms of supervision. >> she will remain a free woman, never to return to florida? >> we'll is v. to wait and see. >> reporter: casey anthony is in hiding if judge ordered her back to orlando was the judge 16

months ago who accepted casey's guilty plea on passing bad checks. casey admitted when caylee was reported missing she stole her best friend's checkbook and went on a shopping spree at target and winn-dixie. when she was sentenced, casey apologized. >> i'd like to sincerely apologize to amy. >> reporter: judge strickland sentenced her to a year probation and the department of corrections agreed. casey serve that 365-day probation while she sat in jail for more than a year awaiting her murder trial. but monday judge strickland clarified that order saying her probation should begin now that she's out of jail. casey's legal team argued judge strickland should not be allowed to now change the terms of her probation and the defense argues the judge has demonstrated unbridled prejudice, in part, they say, because of this interview with nbc station in orlando. >> to this day i'm surprised.

>> reporter: the judge made these comments after the jury found casey not guilty of murder. >> and i just think -- i try and think of why it occurred, and i'm still not sure. i think that people don't understand the nature of circumstantial evidence and they don't understand that circumstantial evidence is evidence. >> reporter: now, judge stan strickland has not seen this motion. not because it was filed late yesterday but because he is on vacation. so he has not ruled on the motion. the department of corrections here says they have made plans anticipating that casey anthony will turn herself in today as required and, if she does not, they anticipate that the judge will then issue a bench warrant for her arrest. matt? >> kerry sanders in orlando for us this morning. thanks, as always. jose baez, casey anthony's lead defense attorney is with us exclusively. mr. baez, good morning to you. >> good morning, matt. how are you? thank you.

you agree with mr. mason that there's no way that casey will return to florida today? >> hopefully it will not get to that point. we are certainly going through the legal process. we filed our motion. we anticipate filing more motions today and asking for a hearing immediately on this because we have an issue of safety. and the last thing we wt to do is put casey in harm's way. that's what our process is about. >> talking about the safety issue in a second, but have you spoken to casey since the judge made this demand and what's her reaction? >> i certainly can't convey statements that i've made or my client has made with me, but she is aware of the situation. get1: your legal opinion on this, mr. baez, because it's a little bit confusing. according to this defense motion filed late last night there is this document from the department of corrections that tells casey that she has completed her terms of supervision. is that referring to this issue specifically or something else?

>> well, i would disagree with you, matt. i think it's very confusing. the department of corrections issued that because she served her probation. she has completed the terms of probation. had she had done something in the jail that would have violated her probation, she would have had a probation violation and had to serve time for that violation. so she was exposed to probation, it. completed cc1: probation officer actually came out and met with her. they continue to monitor her. she's completed her probation. >> the letter from the department of corrections, the judge in this case, judge strickland, had said earlier he reserved the right to reconsider the sentence in the future, in fact, originally didn't he say that he wanted casey's probation to begin if and when she was released from jail? >> that was what was said on the record. however, that's not the way it's done. issue a probation for somebody in the future.

the way it works is you're given a sentence and it's at the end of that sentence you can then be sentenced to probation or it starts immediately. and in this case, she was given 4 412 days for credit time served. at that point it immediately began. now, there's one other thing. in the state of florida, a judge has 60 days to make a correction to the order. that day has long gone. >> let me ask you about something else, because you heard judge strickland's comments in that interview he affiliate.r nbccccc1: viewers o remind ourcc1: judge strickland was on a criminal trial for a while until he recused himself because of objections coming from your defense team. so do you think this is a case of legal interpretation or is it perhaps something personal here? >> you know, i don't pretend to another goes on incc1: person's mind. and i also don't think it's proper for me to make comments,

states of america where someone's accused of a crime, you have your day in court. and if a jury finds you not guilty, that should be the end of it. but unfortunately in this elynching type day that we live in, that's not possible. so, yes, we're very concerned, it's not something we're taking lightly and orange county should also be concerned if they're going to require her to come back, that's going to require additional security and that's going to require -- >> has orange county and the judge in this case made any provisions? has he talked to you about providing security? >> i have made inquiries and i'm continuing to be -- to engage in that process. i will say that i don't think that's something anyone wants to engage in down here. they had to shut down streets for us to leave orlando. i certainly don't think that that's something they want to embrace for her to come back. it's a bad situation. this thing is over and done.

help and joined rescue teams deep in the woods. >> i definitely had a lot of optimism. i tried to maintain that. >> reporter: volunteers scoured trails, search teams swept across the sky. but the terrain was rugged, the area remote. >> the tallest timbers we could find in the state of oregon and she was down in the bottom of those on a creek bed. >> reporter: the big break wouldn't come until tuesday. >> base, go ahead. >> helicopters spotted somebody in the middle of the creek on a rock waving. >> reporter: pamela was sitting on a log, waving her arms to flag down search teams. >> finally the nightmare is over. she would tell rescuers she survived eating berries and drinking water from a creek. a portland preschool teacher, colleagues were overwhelmed by news of her miraculous rescue. >> she was just found. >> reporter: hospitalized but on her way to a full recovery.

michelle franzen is in vermont with the latest. good morning, michelle. >> reporter: good morning. the connecticut river behind me separates vermont from celina cass' hometown on the other side of new hampshire. divers rofred her body in this area several days ago. now as family and friends try to cope with her death they're also learning they'll have to wait longer to find out how she died. what happened to celina cass? so far, there are few answers. >> at this time both the cause and the manner of death, remain pending were authorities hearsay autopsy done on celina's body was inconclusive and they hope toxicology tests will help determine how sell lane that died. they discovered her body monday in a local river one week after she went missing. investigators are still calling the death suspicious and keeping the focus on where celina was last seen. authorities say her mother and

what is the level of the financial desperation that is causing these college women and to a smaller degree men to make this decision? >> we don't promote it because it puts flesh and blood on the statistics that we hear every day how kids graduate from college and can't get jobs. 85% of them go back to live with their parents because they can't make ends meet. and they graduate with unprecedented loans. there's now $1 trillion in college loans that college kids owe. so just think of it. this is the american dream, right? you play by the rules. you work hard. you graduate from college. but we have an economy which does not make it possible for them to get a good job and pay their debts. so this is really an act of desperation. >> okay. >> hundreds of thousands of them. it's not just a small problem with a few thousand women who look for sugar daddies who sell themselves, who basically take a step that's ultimately going to

affect their whole life. >> you say hundreds of thousands. that's the evidence? >> just on this one website seeking arrangement, there are 245,000 women registered who have a college, dot edu, e-mail address. >> the women and men who are students, to not be negatively effected by this kind of relationship? >> i think it's likely that they will. i mean, they're using defenses to try to say this is okay or i am desperate or it's what i have to do. but i think ultimately because it may feel like an immoral act down the road there's going to be guilt. where there's guilt there's often self destructive behavior. >> in addition to the physical and the psychic risks they're taking, they also seem to not be getting paid sometimes very much. >> no, the story that amanda fairbanks, education reporter wrote about, african-american

student who went to college, who went all of the way to grenich to spend an afternoon and have sex with a wealthy man. at the end of which she got $350. and she said when she got back on the train to get home, she was racked with guilt and confusion about what she had done. so my question as a parent, we all have college kids, and what are we doing about it? >> what are we doing about that, gayle? >> i tell you what we need to be doing. it's not just about the desperation, it's staying in touch with your child about what their needs might be. if you really teach your child to be independent you're also teaching them to have moral compass. and this is -- this is frankly a lacking that. i think it's desperation and a change in our moral fiber where girls are able to say to themselves this is okay. it's not okay. >> you can obviously, we have to do more to protect our children.

i had hired early on in my life but, no, that was -- it was the one day i invited my family to set because i don't look at the schedule in advance. >> you did not. >> i did. >> you did not. >> yes, i did. no, not -- the bulb was dim. yeah, they were there. they watched it. i watched my mother actually pass away. she went down. >> you guys shoot this out of order, so it had to be a little confusing because one day you are playing dave and the next day you're playing mitch and then back and forth. how do you keep it straight. >> you make it sound like what we're doing is tough stuff. we're not scientists. agenters have it pretty easy. we did memorize our lines and hit our marks. if we decided we were going to do impersonations of one another, that would have been difficult and ultimately distracting to the audience, i think. we just delivered the lines from the funny script and really,

really proud of the movie. >> one of the things that comes across very well in the movie is you guys get along well on screen and i would imagine in life as well. from what i understand, this has been someone who has been kind of nice to you from the beginning. >> you know, i was, you know, a fresh face, 19-year-old kid when i moved to los angeles. and he was one of the first people who was nice to me. i was a rough drunk. i'm not going to say he was sober at the time. but, you know, he was very, very kind. and then we maintained a friendship throughout the years. always wanted to do something together, and this came along. it was just the perfect vehicle for that. >> and the experience was good. you might do this again? >> well, america is going to decide that. go and stuff the box office and we'll do another one. >> yeah. >> jason bateman, ryan reynolds, good luck. appreciate it. it's called "the change-up." it hits theaters on friday. universal pictures. thanks very much.

cooking school, fish four ways. we're all here to learn how to broil it, roast it, poach it, and saute it. >> our teacher is here, recipe appear in the "new york times" magazine and author of "how to cook everything qutd ". mark, great to see you. >> here we go. >> four different ways guys. we could make any kind of white fish this way but you're going to go with cod. why? >> it's the most common. it's what people are most used to. we have six or eight different fillets of different shades of white, different thicknesses. the point really is that if they look like they're in this category you can treat them pretty much the same. >> this version is the caramelized broiled cod. >> this is really, really cool. what you do here is we have a pre-heated -- we hope -- pan. we have a pre-heated broiling pan. you want it hot. and then you just -- you're going to dredge in brown sugar. what will happen is that brown sugar will get carol mcaramelizd

in the oven. >> it's not stick that well. do you moisten it more? do that. >> a little oil in the pan. and it just goes in, sugar side up. salt and pepper. >> okay. >> and then we put it back in and we have -- >> this is really what happens. at about ten minutes later the sugar liquefies and caramelizes. fish sauce. and a tiny bit of chili. >> looks amazing, mark. >> i love the way it looks. >> i know. i want to bite of that but before we get to that. this is roasted fish with potatoes. >> we have roasted potatoes. >> those are already done. >> yeah. >> slice the po pate tos in the oven with olive oil.

>> salt and pepper. >> salt and pepper. a little more olive oil and some garlic and sage. >> you just put the raw garlic on top of that? >> we're going to cook it some more. >> okay. all right. >> and then simply the fish goes on top of here. and you roast this at pretty high heat until the fish and the potatoes look like that. olive oil, salt and pepper. a little more garlic if you like. >> how long do you roast it? >> probably 15 minutes. the way you know --i i think this is worth doing. i'm looking for a knife. >> yes. >> but whenever any of thesere done, a thin knife is going to go in pretty easily. it's not going to be -- you know how this goes easily? where it's here, you can't do that. that's really the way. a thin-bladed knife will work. that's the way we know between cooked and not cooked. >> and this is my favorite way to eat this, actually, poached cod with ginger and soy sauce.

of murdering her 2-year-old daughter caylee.cc1: but there was another case, a case of check fraud, where she had entered a guilty plea. and in that sentence she was told that she had to serve a one-year probation. she1:was some confusion andcc was released because the department of corrections here in florida said she had served that probation while she was in the jail cell awaiting on the murder case. now they're saying, according to the judge, that she has to return to begin serving that one-year probation here in orlando. her attorneys say they're going to fight, including attorney jose baez. >> she has completed the terms of probation. done something in the jail that would have violated her probation, she would have had a probation violation and had to serve time for that violation. so she was expose to the probation, she completed it. probation officer actually came

out and met with her. they continue to monitor her. she's completed her probation. no doubt about it. i live in the united states of america, where someone's accused of a crime, you have your day i: court. and if the jury finds you not guilty, that should be the end of it. but unfortunately in this e-lynching time day that we live in, that's not possible. so, yes, we're very concerned. it's not something we are taking lightly. and orange county should also be concerned, if they're going to require her to come back, that's going to require additional security. >> the department of corrections says they are making arrangements for her to arrive here today. they have given, according to the judge, judge stan strickland, a 5:00 p.m. deadline for her to show up. if she doesn't show up a bench warrant for her arrest could be issued. natalie? >> kerry sanders in orlando. thank you. a trial is under way this morning in cairo for former egyptian president hosni

if morning on "today's" relationships. what would you do if your partner put on some extra pounds? according to a recent poll nearly 50% of men say they would dump their partner if she gained too much weight. nicole is the executive editor of "cosmopolitan" magazine and robi ludwig is contributor to care.com. ladies, we are shocked. cosmo did this survey of 80,000 men. men who are basically not married yet, though. they're boyfriend and girlfriend. this was the result. half of them. >> askmen.com, did a joint survey. 80,000 people overall. this horrifying stat, they said 50% of guys said they would leave their partner if she were to gain significant weight. i'm five months pregnant, reading this is very alarming.

i'm taking it as a not so gentle reminder that no matter how in love a man is, physical attraction always remains very important to him. >> and, where do you think this is coming from, that men feel that the relationship can dissolve so much based on that physical attraction? >> men are statistically a lot more focused on looks and body type. and it does matter to them, because in part they feel that who they're with is a statement about who they are. so if they're with somebody who doesn't look good, what does that say about them? they have low self-esteem, they're not successful? plen a men are a little bit more focus and what their women look like. >> it's also about weight. i think that for men some are thinking if she gains a lot of weight it means she no longer cares about her appearance, which means she no longer cares about being sexually attracted to me which means we're never

going to have sex again. >> interesting thing is studies show that a woman who is obsessed with her weight isn't necessarily more sexual. if she feels good about herself, that can increase her sexuality. >> meanwhile, women are much more forgiving, thank god, in this survey. apparently 20% of women would dump their boyfriend if he gained weight. i guess we give a little more in that department. >> right. there are other parts of the survey that show that men were less for giving for themselves. when it comes a certain part of their anatomy, majority of men would like to be a little bit bigger and that jmajority are h. men are hard on themselves, too. >> when it comes to the message the survey says to women in terms of self-esteem, what does this tell us, nicole? besides, get to the gym now, do zumba on the plaza. >> the message for me and i think most women should take

away is just the physical attraction and sexuality is important to the relationship. they call it intimacy for a reason. if you lose that, the relationship will suffer maybe more for the men than women. self-esteem, being at the weight that makes you feel happy and comfortable and sexy. that's going to make you feel the best. >> there is a weight discrimination in our country and it has increased by 66% over the last ten years. >> is it equal men to women, that weight discrimination? it doesn't seem to matter so much when a man puts on weight. >> it does. it does affect men in the job market, in terms of dating. women, it affects them a little bit more because that's in part what we bring to the table, how we look. and i think we just have to understand that reality. there is a study done that had a man pictured with a heavyset woman that same man pictured with a thin woman. and the man with the heavier woman, there was a more negative response to. so i mean, i think looks impacts us. >> if there is some redemption here, there is a part of the

survey that i think is interesting, where 26% of women say having a successful partner is the ultimate status symbol. meanwhile, 39% of men say family is the ultimate status symbol. it sounds like when they're in a committed relationship and ready to start a family -- they do like to be in that committed relationship and will stay. >> i think it's important that women not get too comfortable and think, well, he loves me, we've been together for a long time, we have kids together, it doesn't matter anymore. >> and couples should help each other to be their best physically, emotionally. >> lie. >> no, they don't. >> twice as big as they used to be and lie to your face, no, honey, we love you. >> they want to love you into beauty. that's the key. >> all right. well, ladies, the discussion is certainly -- it's pretty unbelievable when you look at all the statistics from this cosmoaskmen.com.
