>> i don't know about that stuff. we'll look at a live shot of oakland. i know about this drive and north of the bay bridge upper deck is clear on the toll plaza. the southbound side. 880 at fruit vale and an issue on the offramp. there's slowing there. thank you, mike. new this morning. it is really news to family and friends of two former u.c. berkeley grads have been waiting to hear iran's president says the two u.c. berkeley graduates will be released from prison this week. marla tellez is live with an update for us. >> reporter: good morning. it's still quiet on the campus of u.c. berkeley in terms of getting reaction. sempb going to be elated to hear this news. especially the families of shane michael bauer and josh fattal.

the news is very surprising. . it was mess than a month ago they were sndsed to eight years in jail for espionage. they were hiking in iraq with sarah shourd when they innocently crossed the kurtistan border. this morning iran's president told the "today show's" ann curry the two americans will be freed in a couple of days. they've been in prison for more than two years now. he tried assuring curry they were treated well. >> this is like staying in a hotel. we do it in a humanitarian gesture. >> so he calls it a humantorian gesture. the associated press is

reporting the two will be freed only once $500 thourk bail is paid for both bauer and fattal. ahmadinejad did not make any mention of that. one year ago september of last year that sarah shourd was released from iran's jail. after $500,000 was paid. >> really interesting to see. can't wait to hear. it's been a long road for josh fattal and shane bauer. they were arrested on july # 1st of 2009. iran didn't formally charge them with espionage until the fall of that year. in may of last year all three hikers got to go to iran to see their sons for a short time. the mothers got to go. this enin september it allowed sarah shourd to post half a

million dollars in bail. the iranian president, ahmadinejad is promising they will get out by the end of the week. >> this morning we're following the search for four teenage boys who escaped from a juvenile detention center. one of them is considered dangerous. today in the bay christie smith is live with an update on this story. good morning, christi. >> good morning. it was a scary phone call to get right before you go to sleep. to lock your doors and windows. four juveniles escaped from a detention facility. that's what happened for residents in discovery bay and byron last night. i just got off the phone with the sheriff's department. they say the warning expired at 5:00 because it's almost daybreak. they tell me they got quite a few calls of possible sightings around the byron boys ranch detention center. they looked around but had no

luck. one of the boys called his mom overnight to say he had cut his hand and is in brentwood. deputies say they looked around here and could not confirm that. they do say they searched for hours, though. how they escaped, deputies say they don't know. but again there are four of them. one african-american. 15 years old. he's 6'3". 300 pounds. black hair. brown eyes. he's considered mentally challenged. the second is also african-american. 15 years old. the fourth also hispanic. 5'0". 125 pounds. black hair, brown eyes. they'll issue a be on the lookout warning to other law enforcement agencies to watch for the teens. they're also telling me the delta station in the area will continue to search for them. for now the warning is over. john and laura, back to you.

>> christie smith, thank you for the update. >> it is 6:06. an autopsy report suggesting two bodies discovered in a burning oakland home were stabbed a number of times before the fire. the bodies of a man and woman were found inside the burning road early sunday morning. they found the bodies inside after putting the fire out. investigators think the fire was set to cover up the murders. witnesses saw several people run weag from the building after that fire started. no arrests have been made ch. marijuana growing businesses will be the topic for leaders todays. where marijuana for medicinal pot clinics will come from. when they considered the matter last if april, they wanted the pot collectors to grow their own marijuana in house to ensure they were not buyg from the black market. but collectives say the huge

growing operations will invite federal drug raid. the council will talk about how many cannabis collections there should be and where they will be allowed. the family of giants tan bryan stow says the value of his medical care and recovery could reach $50 million. the suit thams dodgers owner and 13 others in the dodgers organization. a lack of security and liking at the ballpark is said to have contributed to the attack on stowe. the two men charged in the case have pleaded not guilty. stowe remains in a san francisco hospital. his family says he's slowly recovering. america's biggest names in transportation will be at the oakland airport talking money. ray lahood and federal aviation administrator randy babbitt will visit the construction site. the deadline for congress to

extend the funding is midnight on friday. if congress allows funding to expire, tens of thousands of jobs could be on the line. that will be at oakland international airport this afternoon. >> we have interesting weather happening. mo major headlines popping out at you this morning. we want to show you what is happening. thunderstorm activity in the east bay hill this is morning. most of the moisture is concentrated in southern california. for us we have an area of low pressure situated to the north. so for us we have a little bit of isolated activity. for the most part that will continue to wind down. we had a 10% chance. throughout the evening hours, zero.

we'll see much drier air, more stable air move into the bay area throughout the next 48 hours looking much better. the winds are coming in. that's preventing the fog from getting very dense at the coast. which we see. we set the future cast. mostly cloudy condition on the peninsula. you're mostly clear from the south bay to the east bay. throughout noon, partial clearing in the city. partly to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. meanwhile, 81 in san jose. i've got your seven-day outlook in just awe few minutes. mike, jn you're busy. >> everybody is getting busy on the roadways. that's what i meant with a lot of traffic flow. we've seen a major bump in the number of headlights coming off the eastshore freeway.

solyndra shut its doors on the last day of august putting more than 1,000 employees out of work. when congress jumps into your business like they are for this company's failure, yeah, it's a big deal, isn't it? >> they will be doing that again tomorrow. this is a committee investigating the down fall of the company. considering the company received $535 million in federal loan guarantee. it's certainly an issue of concern to congress. they were reassuring congress they were in no danger of shutting down just eight weeks before it did shut down. a couple weeks ago they abruptly shut the doors and laid off almost all 1100 employees. saying it could no longer

compete with chinese companies producing cheaper panels. they raided the homes of the current and former execs. taking away boxes of docs and computer files. this has been an embarrassment for the obama administration. they were here to tout the issue of green jobs and the stimulus program under which solyndra received the federal loan guarantees. the time line shows a slow burn over several years. they were foundsed in '05. received the loan in '09. they still visited the factory here a couple of months later. the next month, solyndra

hit the ice. that's coming up soon. we're clear even in san francisco. as we head through the next couple of hours, a little bit of fog is developed. this is an area of low pressure circulating to the east. as we head throughout the morning hours, those winds will keep the fog moving around and preventing it from settling in and reducing the visibility all that much. this is what we're looking at for today. low pressure will take a hike. and we'll lose the chance of thunderstorms this evening. 60 in hayward as you break for lunch. . it will start to get warm. 75 in concord. as you break for lunch, temperatures are really, really mild. 81 in san jose. the south bay has been such a treat. 82 in gilroy. 71 in santa cruz. the seven-day outlook shows you temperatures are nice and

comfortable throughout the weekend. yeah, hopefully they'll win yet again tonight. temperatures dropping off throughout the next few days. let's find out how your drive is shaping up. it's busy out there. >> we'll check with highway 24. one of your usual suspects. speeds below the 15 miles per hour. now heading over to leverage. also hovering around 50. holding steady for pittsburgh and bay point. no worse through walnut creek or concord. there's the silver lining. look at the speeds. 21-minute drive. speeds closer to 40. into the 30s here. all the way in to central livermore. clearing up as is tradition. 50s and 60s. more folks will be heading down. expect slowing through the area. not right now. speeds in the 50s and 60s in the south bay.

it feels like you'll make it home. that's what it feels like to be a member. look at this video from logan, utah. a group of strangers saw a man pinned under a burning car. they put all their strength together. they lift the car long enough so thigh can pull the man out to safety. it's unbelievable to see. the man was riding his motorcycle when he hit the car at the intersection. he is said to be in stable condition with several broken bones. there are eight people there that just lift up the bmw.

his rescuers were construction workers and college students that happened to witness it. it is remarkable. outstanding they managed to pull him out. it looks like they all got frightened and stepped away kbik quickly. then paramedics rushed in to save him. remarkable heroics of strangers. the rhetoric between the republican candidates for president is really heating up now. >> rather than trying to scare seniors, it's time to have a legitimate conversation in the country. >> the term ponzi scheme scared seniors. during a debate in florida the front-runner rick perry had to find off the rivals. >> at the end of the day, this was about trying to stop a cancer. i'm always going to ere on the

plane moved away from terminal. surrounded by cops. crew is mum. passengers can't get up. then majorly armed cops coming aboard. now the pumpl line is ask not who they're coming for. they're coming for you. she was the one the cops wanted. she was one of three passengers sitting together on the flight who made passengers nervous. she didn't know her seat mates were indian and not muslim. one was ill and used the bathroom several times. they would have to stand up repeatedly to let them out of the row. so she was detained by cops and then eventually let go. wall street continues to worry about europe. countries like spain have to pay higher and higher interest rates because of worries they won't be able to pay back the debt. that means the company is more in debt, which makes people worry more, which raises the interest rates. the way we solve the problem is the fed increases the money

commute now. 6:32. the hunt is on for four boys who escaped from a detention center. it was the byron's boys ranch. one of the boys is considered dangerous. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. there was a warning overnight. it started at 11:15 to stay inside and lock your doors and windows. i spoke with the sheriff's department. that expired at 5:00 this morning. a spokesperson tells me they got word tr one of the juveniles that he had cut his hand and was in brentwood. they're telling my they came here and could not find him. he's one of the four that escaped from the byron's boys ranch late last night. one of these boys is considered dangerous. neighbors got a warning phone call telling them to lock their doors and windows as deputies searched for the escaped teens.

how they got out is still a mystery. one of them is 15 years ol'5" y african-american, 6'6'3", 300 pounds, black hair, brown eyes. he's considered mentally challenged. the other is also african-american. 6'4", 170 pounds. the last two are hispanic. much smaller. both 14 years old. black hair, brown eyes. one is 5'0", 110 pounds. the other is 125 pounds. i asked what you should do if you see them. the sheriff said don't approach. just call the police department. he said other departments were notified to be on the lookout for them. he said the delta sheriff's department stationed in the area will continue to search for them as time permits. john and laura, back to you. >> a good warning for folks to be careful. thank you, christi. also a warning for santa

jose state students after another sexual assault on campus. early sunday morning a student was attacked near the campus village at 9th and east end salvador streets. last week reported near the engineering building. police are still investigating both cases. campus police reminds students not to walk alone at night. stay in well lit areas and take advantage of the free campus escort program. 6:35 right now. we have an update. it looks to be good news. where the iranian government may soon free the urks c berkeley grads held on espionage charges. marla tellez is live in berkeley with more on the story. >> it was just last month that they were sentenced to eight years in jail in an iranian courtroom. when that news came down it stunned people all over the bay area. especially those here at u.c. berkeley where the two graduated

from. the tide could be turning for those two. in an inexclusive interview with the "today show's" ann curry this morning, iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad says bauer and fattal will be released. >> translator: we tried last year to free one of the three persons. and we are also trying to make arrangements for the freedom of the other two. i think these two will be freed in a couple of days. >> in a couple of days? >> translator: yes, a couple of days. >> the third person he's referring to is sarah shourd. she was arrested with fattal and bauer after they unknowingly crossed the border on a hiking trip. shourd was released on $500,000 bail last september.

it's been a year there. ahmadinejad is calling the move to release shane michael bauer and josh fattal a humanitarian gesture, but it should be noted the associated press is reporting the two will only be released once $500,000 bail is paid on behalf of both of them. >> thank you very much. look forward to following the story. the man accused of killing a prominent santa cruz attorney while on vacation in maui is due in court today. jared galloway jr. is accused of kidnapping and murdering celestial kaszman. they saw them arguing earlier this month. when police arrived they found her body on a rocky area below the roadway. galloway jumped off the clip when he saw police coming. he was released from the hospital yesterday. the woman accused of killing michelle le missed another court

appearance. 27-year-old michelle esteban waived her right to appear yesterday. a judge is now trying to determine if she's eligible for a public defender. esteban is scheduled to return to court on monday where she's expected to enter a plea then. le's family will not talk about the the case and is instead urging people to try to find le. a search will take place on friday and saturday in hayward. it is 6:38. time to check the forecast once again with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you. i don't know if you noticed over the past couple of days a tropical feel here in the bay area. my hair is still feeling the effects. this morning it's not as muggy. we're getting a little bit of improvement. still we'll have the thunderstorm activity that's really coming down in southern california moving up to the north bay. let's show you what they're dealing with in palm springs. these are severe thunderstorms.

hail coming down in palm springs where they hit 117 over the weekend. whack i can weather for us. over the past hour the activity has started to really wind down. we are starting to see dense fog develop. down to half a mile in santa rosa. you have pockets in napa so deep you can only see a quarter mile. elsewhere we're looking good. ten miles or better from san mateo down the peninsula. as a result, things are going to get right back to normal where they traditionally are this time of year. we have been at the norms when it comes to our temperatures. but as we head throughout the next couple of days, that ha marine air, the cool feeling air will start to pull back into the bay area. 73 degrees at noon. inland at 63 by the water. up to 81 in places like san jose. later today 59 in san francisco. let's check your drive with mike. >> over my shoulder we're following a motorcycle across

the latest from washington next president obama is hitting the road to try to sell his jobs plan to the public. now we know how he wants to pay for it. it's not american express. tracie potts is live in washington with all the details. good morning, tracie. >> i don't think you want to foot the bill on this one. president obama says hooe got a plan here. most of the mown to pay for this would come from charitable deductions on your taxes, limiting those for people who make over 200 or for families $250,000 a year. also closing loopholes for big

oil companies and a couple of other tax changes to primarily effect the wealthy. republicans say they don't want to see taxes raised. they do want to see the numbers. not from the white house but from the congressional budget office. the president say he is will sign this legislation in pieces if it comes to him that way. in last night's debate the republicans talked about the plan saying they don't think it's going to work. president obama agreed we may be looking at about 2,000. coming up, a man who donated millions to a bay area charity lands himself a new job. and the minor details solyndra executives neglected to bring up to congress in the weeks before they abruptly shut

fog not a problem until about 15 minutes ago. temperatures are pretty comfortable throughout the afternoon. mostly cloudy conditions over oakland. we're not looking too bad. throughout the day today we are going to see a little bit of fog. we still have ten miles of visibility from livermore through san francisco, oakland. half a mile in santa rosa. we're not going to deal with this all day long. stop the clock for you mostly cloudy along the peninsula. so you'll get partial clearing in san francisco. partly to mostly cloudy conditions throughout the day. we have the chance of thunderstorms as well. tonight the area of low pressure driving in all the instability will head off to if east finally.

panel company in fremont. this is a company that received $535 million in federal loan guarantees as part of a federal stimulus program. house members will be particularly interested in finding out why the ceo was reassuring congress that it was no no danger of shutting down before it did shut down. they said they could no longer compete with the chinese companies producing cheaper panels. the fbi has raided the homes of the current and former executives, taking away boxes of documents and computer files. this is an embarrassment for president obama. he visited last year to tout the value of the federal stimulus program. there's a short rise and fall to the solyndra company. it was founded in '05. received the loan in '09. six months later deep concern

was expressed about the viability of the company after auditing the firm. president obama still visited the company. the next month the solyndra canceled ipo. this is june of 2010. congress then began the investigation into the loan in february of this year. this summer solyndra appeared before congress to tout its success, as i mentioned before. now we're in the beginning of september, solyndra is now shut down. the fbi raided the offices. tomorrow the house and energy commerce and committee will be grilling the executives. john? >> bob, with the fbi and congress involved, you know this thing will get ugly. thank you for the update from fremont. one of the nation's most powerful senators says the woman she hired to handle her campaign finances ripped her off.

we had the chance to speak to a couple passerbys to tell them the news. they say they are relieved to hear it. one man put it bluntly when he told us he'll believe it when he sees it. just less than a month ago shane michael bauer and josh fattal were sentenced to eight years in jail for espionage and entering iran illegally. they along with sarah shourd were hiking in iraq when they say they innocently crossed the border. this morning in an exclusive interview iran's president told the "today show's" ann curry the two americans will be freed in a couple of days. speaking through an interpreter, he said they've been treated well. >> translator: these two have very good condition here in prison. it's like staying in a hotel.
