weather this weekend. if you have the day off, and you can hit the beach, it is going to be stellar. 52, oakland. 56, hayward. rather chilly in the north bay. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s up there. if we head throughout the day, we are going to lose a lot of the low cloud cover. the fog is thick. nothing like we saw at this time yesterday morning. it is not going to last long. futurecast shows you by 11:00 a.m. today, we will see a complete offshore push as high pressure movesov onshore and pushes all the cloud cover out to sea. that means almost completely clear start even in san francisco this morning. we will see a little bit of patchy fog up in the north bay. sunny afternoon, highs in the upper 80s in some cities. 85, livermore, seven-day outlook. we are going to be watching for the potential for fire weather to develop. dry, gusty winds as we head through next week. that means you need to stay privy to the forecast for fire weather interest. we will have that coming up.

>> thank you very much. new this morning, a good samaritan who stopped her car to offer help to another driver in hayward paid for that with her own life. the chp says the woman and another person pulled over on interstate 880 at around 2:00 this morning to help the driver of another car who had crashed near the highway 92 interchange. while this woman was standing in the lane, another car crashed into her killing her on impact. as many as five other people were also injured in the pileup including a 14-year-old. they are now being treated at eden medical center and oakland children's hospital. so far, the condition of the victims has not been released. it is still early in the investigation. responding officers say the deadly crash appears to be a tragic accident and not a crime. >> people's general nature is to help one another. we definitely want people to help each other. on the freeway, this time of night, in the end, it is not probably a good idea to stop. the best thing you can do is pull over, call for help, pull

off the freeway. things like that. don't stop in the lane and put yourself at risk. leave that to us. >> several lanes of 880 were closed overnight while investigators search the scene. now, all lanes are clear. this morning, more aftershock, the rumbling in the east bay, dayings after thursday's 4.0 quake near berkeley. two quakes struck two miles southeast of berkeley. the first one, a 2.8. the second, a 1.3, small by bay area standards but enough to rouse some people from bed. today's quakes come days after thursday's shaker on the hayward fault line near berkeley followed by several aftershocks. seismologists are not surprised there were several earthquakes in the same spot. they have been watching quakes in this area for more than 40 years. they say, of all the places along the he ward fault, this is the most likely location for a cluster of quakes. they emphasize recent events are not an indication of the big one. >> it is not common but it is

not very unusual. so it is not reason for undue alarm. people just need to get prepared for the big one that eventually will come in the east bay. >> now, this morning, we have heard from viewers in berkeley, oakland, piedmont and aren da who say they felt the small quakes. so far, no reports of any damage or injuries. this morning, a bay area family is burying their daughter, a victim of circumstance in a southern dra k shooting rampage. the native was getting her hair done at a salon when a man walked in and started firing. the mother of three was one of nine people that lost her life that day. her sister was in new york when she heard about that rampage. >> she was special. she was a selfless, caring

person. >> private memorial services for michelle fast are held this morning. beaten up and on the run, a bay area biker suspected of killing a man at a hell's angel funeral is dodging police. he may have a woman with him. police say her life may be in danger. a manhunt is underway for steve luis accused of killing a fellow biker at a funeral last weekend. he has two black eyes and other injuries. with him may be 42-year-old crystal trahijo who also goes by the name ferguson. they could be on the way to new york in a gold colored chevy suburban. he allegedly killed a man in front of thousands of people gather ford a burial of the president of the san francisco chapter of hell's angels. this morning, "occupy

oakland" protesters are digging in. looking live at the occupy protest, hundreds were ordered to pack up the camps or end up in handcuffs. they issued the notice thursday and upped the stakes last night threatening to arrest them if they don't leave frank ogawa plaza. they say cooking equipment, hay, and human waste propose a human health hazardous. >> the overnight camping is no longer permitted overnight on frank ogawa plaza. they say they are building a society and fulfilling the needs of the protesters and have no services. bringing out the big guns literally in san leandro, a new state law banning open carry of pistols takes effect january 1st. gun owners are planning to start

packing heat in public as often as they can. we are talking rifles and shotguns. today, they will be carrying their biggest guns to prove a point in san leandro. they want the law repealed and the right to carry an unloaded pistol in public. supporters of the law say this plan will backfire and are calling this display an invitation to ban long rifles in public. the california correction department issued 26,000 layoff warnings. this he were sent to employees with fewer than 10 years of service. as many as 180 employees at san quentin got the notices. the statewide number is still unclear. official notices don't go out until next month. employees will have until the end of february to make their decision. a difficult chapter in american history is now closed. >> today, i can say that our

troops in iraq will definitely be home for the holidays. >> president obama announcing all 39,000 troops stationed in iraq will pull out by the end of the year. the original plan was to pull most of the troops out by the end of the year and leave a few,000 training troops on the ground. the president decided to pull everybody out after the iraqi government refused to guarantee immunity to the troops left behind. here is the reaction from two soldiers who have done multiple tours of duty. >> it is not just sacrifice we make but the sacrifices by the employers as reservists and the families. >> we are still fully entrenched in what we are doing in afghanistan. we need to continue to keep the intensity up even though we are now in the process of ramping down in iraq. >> over the past eight years, more than 4,000 soldiers have been killed in the line of duty in iraq. tens of thousands of others are suffering from physical and emotional wounds.

the last name ferguson. they could be on the way to arizona or new york according to police. they may be driving a gold colored chevy suburban. this morning, a bay area family is mourning the death of their daughter killed during a shooting rampage at a southern california hair salon. michelle fast's family is still coming to grips with how she died. the atherton native was getting her hair done when a man walked in and started firing at a salon. the mother of three is one of nine people who lost their lives that day. private memorial services for michelle fast will be held this morning in menlo park. throughout the state, the chp is seeing a big drop in drunk driving deaths. they are down 25% this year. a federal grant gets most of the credit for that decline. that money funds the border to border dui enforcement program. it has two components, education and enforcement. the enforcement comes in the form of more sobriety check points in so-called saturation

hope you are having a nice start to your day looking live at the golden gate bridge. you can see lots of blue sky. we expect lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures and christine lauren coming up in just a few moments. san francisco's controversial cell phone radiation law won't go into effect on tuesday. the city is delays the start date until a federal judge rules on the request to block the law all together. cell phone stores are required to put up posters and hand out fact sheets warning people with cell phone radiation. it is the first right to know law. cell phone companies say that the warnings are alarmist and based on opinion and not fact. move over 408. here comes 669. silicon valley is getting a second area code to accommodate the growing population. the california puc just approved the 669 area code. if you are a current customer and you have a 408, you don't have to change your existing phone number. everyone's dialing habits will have to change. when you call any number within

police. the group was protesting a church attack. next weekend, the saint mother's coptic ortho doc church will host a carnival dedicated to the families killed in the attack and to raise awareness of what is happening there. this really does hit close to home. most of us just see the images of violence on television. it is close to home for you? >> definitely. my mom was actually in egypt at the time of the revolution. so it gives you an opportunity to put simple freedoms in perspective. >> some of the simple freedoms are the freedom to gather and this unity festival that you are planning, what is the point of getting people together? >> well, initially, the idea was, it is an opportunity for the local coptic christians to give something back to the community here in the tri valley region. in light of recent events in egypt, it took on a whole new

meaning. we've dedicated the carnival to the victims of the attacks that you mentioned and the funds and proceeds are constantly going towards supporting the families and supporting any efforts that will raise awareness regarding the christians in egypt and the attacks that are going on and kind of the chaotic aftermath that goes along with the revolution. >> what are some of the things that you are going to be doing at the festival? sometimes you say festival. we expect just fun and lightheartedness. will there be any serious any about educating people? >> at the carnival, games for all ages and great middle eastern, mediterranean cuisine and prizes. with what's going on in egypt, there is definitely going to be another aspect to it. an educational opportunity, an opportunity to make people aware

of what's going on there. of what we can do to help. >> about 25% of the people who are working in this carnival are trying to get asylum. >> yes. >> because they don't want to have to go back to what your mom experienced in egypt. definitely. what they have been through, we are lucky, we have been here for years now, my parents have. but for them, a lot of these families that are participating now and have recently come to join us here in our church are people that had plans on spending their whole lives in egypt and saw those plans ripped away from them in a matter of weeks. it's complete instability and hard to plan for a future like that. so they picked up and came and they have been the most active people in the process. >> so, again, the festival is happening at your church in

walter isakson is simply called, steve jobs. it hits book shelves on monday. facebook creator, mark zuckerberg, is the world's youngest billionaire and quickly become one of silicon valley's recognizes faces. now, he is friending a round the clock security company. the ceo reportedly acquired a 24-hour security team to protect him and his home. this year, he took out a restraining order against one man harassing him at his home and at facebook's headquarters. the new security team will also probably keep away pesky reporters like bob riddell who posted a like sign on his front gate when he first moved into his house a few months ago. much more ahead on "today in the bay." still to come, our pet of theeek, week, anabel is a cutie.

>> looking live at the golden gate bridge. looking nice in international orange. we can see all of it because the fog is going away very early this morning. and we have some special guests from pets in need this morning, volunteer lisa simmons is here with annabelle, a chihuahua mix. she looks like the paintings of the dogs in the ancient caves of egypt. >> she does. she is not one of those. we think she is a chiwini. >> that's a new one. >> she is long and low and she has a lot of dachy characteristics as well as some chihuahua character rest sticks. she is very shy but warms up quickly, young, about a year and a half, loves other dogs, respectful of cats. she likes children. we think she would be great for just about flib. >> that sounds great.
