not one but two suspected drunk drivers crash overnight sending eight people to the hospital. i'll show you some of the damage this morning. plus, san jose police back in the spotlight this morning after yet another officer-involved shooting. the third this month. and the woman accused of killing michelle le back in court today, but she could walk out this afternoon. a live look outside this morning. it's monday, october 24th. this is "today in the bay." >> well, good morning, everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. it's 4:30 on a monday. let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> i promised you the beach weekend, and it was almost hot

out there. we had a record breaking weekend oakland broke a temperature record on saturday. yesterday was just as warm if not warmer in most beach cities across the bay. in most cities we have a lot of cloud. changes for today. we warm up and dry out tomorrow into wednesday. we'll talk about your forecast. a lot of things happening this week. let's check your drive and get you to work on time. back to work monday. >> you've been working all weekend. thank you for that. normally i would pick out a couple of spots for construction. there's 880. but this morning no closures. we're not worried about the traffic breaks. this morning it looks like a drunk driver hit another drunk driver in san francisco. two-car accident happened south of market. police arrested both drivers. lots of people in the hospital this morning with just

devastating injuries. christie smith is live in san francisco with an update. >> reporter: what are the chances of this? two suspected drunk drivers colliding. it's clear at 10th and howard. you can follow the path of the accident here. at least one of the cars came up over the curb. this is a fence. there's oil all over the the ground. crumpled license plate there. you can see it was quite a violent collision. now i just got off the phone with san francisco police, and they say the driver in a white van ran a red light and was speeding and plowed into a charger. in all, eight people injured. the most severely, i'm told a young woman paralyzed from the neck down. the driver in the van is charged with seven felon counts, including possession of drugs for sale and transportation because as one officer told me there was a significant amount of cocaine in the van.

one passenger was also charged with possession. the driver of the charger may face five felon counts of drunk driving. this is pending the driver being tested this morning. again, eight people injured. i'm told everyone is expected to survive. just a very nas tis accident out here this morning. >> awful. thank you, christie. san jose dealing with another situation where police shot someone. officers responding to reports of a man with a gun at the extended stay hotel around 8:00 yesterday morning. the suspect shot several times, but is expected to survive. no officers were injured. this is san jose's seventh officer-involved shooting this year. the third just this month. police looking into san jose's 37th homicide of the year. officers getting a call of a fight around 1:30 yesterday morning.

doctors could not save him. no arrests. police have not said anything about possible suspects. the coast guard called off the search for a kayaker missing in the san francisco bay. witnesses say the 55-year-old man was kayaking near pier 80. he got too close to a tug boat and it was caught in the current generated by the propellers. the eye yak overturned and the man never resurfaced. >> when i turned around to see how he was doing, the boat was already over. so he was already out and under. >> san francisco police found no sign of him. the woman accused of murdering east bay nursing student michelle le is expected in court. giselle esteban is scheduled to enter a plea and find out what

her bail will be. esteban is accused of killing 26-year-old michelle le may 27th after she disappeared from her shift at kaiser hospital in hayward. she's pregnant and doctors said she was not well enough to attend. a legal analyst says if esteban is granted bail today. it will likely be limited and involve len trok inmonitoring. 4:35 jury selection in the case of a man who targeted the wrong guy. he murdered a technician with the public you tills commission. herrera along with another man were hunting for rival gang members.

61 in san francisco. 52 in novato. we are expecting fog to hug the coastline through 11:00 a.m. this morning. that will make for a cooler day. we'll talk about that coming up. your day shapes up like this. 5:00 p.m., 77 in san jose. 65 in san francisco. significantly cooler than over the weekend. and beach traffic was crazy. the 17 was so backed up. >> i'm glad you got to take the slow drive.

the request of the california secretary of state and department of justice cops after accusation of voter fraud on the the part of mayor lee's supporters. video shot in china town on friday shows workers from an independent group supporting lee, helping voteers fill out absentee ballots. in some cases they're filling out ballots themselves. >> it's outrageous what's happening. we have video showing workers connected with independent extendtures telling people how to vote. >> if i had heard that somebody was doing that on behalf of me, i would stand up and say that's absolutely wrong. and i -- as i would come out and say that should cease and desist. i would be leading the full investigation of that. >> lee's campaign did not return nbc bay area's calls. a spokesman for the campaign told the chronicle what you're seeing on the video is not illegal. that's not correct. the workers have not technically

part of lee's campaign. he says, the spokesman does, it's just a political hit because lee has a commanding lead in the polls. the oakland raiders have a lot to work on. six interceptions during yesterday's game. newly acquired carson palmer took over. but he was intercepted three times as well. game five of the world series. the series tied up at two games a piece thanks to holland. texas won 4-0. game five is at 5:05 in arlington. it is 4:34. good morning. >> good morning, scott. hope you had a good weekend. i bet a lot of people hit the

beach. i know they did. i saw the traffic on 17. temperatures at coast as warm as we saw inland land yesterday. 91 in morgan hill. 85 in oakland. so it was a cooker all across the bay area. especially for this time of year. we'll see changes brought about by this trough of low pressure. it's not going to make its way into the bay area, but it's going to drive in the onshore flow. we're still seeing the clock wise rotation. high pressure is still in control. it drifted east a little bit. it's not as strong over the bay area. therefore it won't be as warm. 53 in fairfield. 48 to start out the morning up in napa. as we set your future cast in motion, we're expecting a late morning round of fog. so we stopped it at 11:00 a.m. you can see we'll have a good amount of cloud cover hugging the coastline. between noon and 2:00 the sun comes back out. with all the cloud cover the temperatures will struggle to make it to 70 in san francisco

officials claim the former dictator died in cross fire between rebels and gadhafi loyalists. a new warning for mothers. harvard researchers say more needs to be done to protect pregnant women from the chemical known as bpa. it could affect young girls' behaviors, making them susceptible to depression and ajsty. pregnant women with higher levels of bpa were more likely to have daughters with increased behavioral problems. other medical experts are cautious over the findings. they say because the way your body processes bpa it's unlikely it could cause health effects at realistic exposure levels. remember the hawk with a nail in his head? he's getting care this morning. video taken by an nbc bay area viewer of the res kau on saturday. the nail fell out of during the

ride from san francisco to the wildlife center of silicon valley on saturday. there's a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who did it. steve jobs biography not quite on store shelves yet. but it's already a best seller. so many people preordered the book that it's tops on amazon.com for 45 days running. amazon released the book to kindle yudsers last night. so too did apple's bookstore. the jobs biography based on more than 40 interview tws the apple cofound herb over the two years. among the revelations, jobs' regret for resisting pancreatic cancer surgery. they say the book is not harsh buzz fair because it's about a real human. let's check in with marla for what's ahead on "today in the bay." good morning.

coliseum. and we see a nice, smooth drive. i pointed out earlier typically we see overnight closures as crews clear from the area. but there's been no crew to clear. that's good news for folk who is don't have to do work as well as the drivers. here's something new to worry about. second-hand television. that means kids are exposed to tv programs really not necessarily watching but can see accidentally. that might be a tv running in the background or a show adults are watching but the child listens in. the study's authors say such things are bad for children. coming up, the search who opened fire at the hell's angels funeral. check us out on facebook.

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm marla tellez in for jon kelley. he's off today. talk about a spectacular weekend. >> gorgeous. >> we want to check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. is it going to stay with us. >> today we're going to see changes. we're one week out from hall lean. pretty significant pattern changes when it comes to weather. for today the fog is back. that will keep the temperatures down by 10 to 15 degrees from yesterday's daytime highs. and we're going to see the cloud cover return to the coast. but for one day only as we head into tuesday and wednesday we dry out, we warm up, and the breezes start to pick up. so we'll talk all about that. lots to sort out when it comes the your forecast. first mikey is watching a couple of things. >> we had a couple of incidents and hit and clear. now to the peninsula. 101 and 280. the freeways are moving smoothly no. major construction to worry about. although there's some through palo alto.
