thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm marla tellez. we want to check the week long forecast with christina loren. will be be at nice as the weekend? >> no. plain and simply, no. we're going to cool off. we that had the beautiful weather at the coast. you can see for miles. it was clear out there in san francisco. we held onto beautiful conditions on sunday. today we have the fog. it's rolling back in. 56 in concord. 62 in oakland. we are watching for dry, breezy weather through the next couple of days. things really start to change. first, let's check the drive with mike. >> we'll take folks to a beautiful shot from erin murphy. we have moisture in the air. not yet fog officially.

not a pob for the drivers. you can see it's creeping around. no metering lighting yet. i'll show folks the maps coming up. >> it is 6:02. this morning two drivers involved in an early car accident are in custody while a number of passengers are recovering at the hospital. a horrible accident. today in the bay's christie smith joins us live from san francisco with an update. good morning. >> good morning to you. the intersection is back open. you can still get a sense of what happened and how bad the accident was from the tire marks to the torn-up fence this morning. police suspect that two drivers under the influence crashed injuring eight people.

all of them in a car or van. one passenger has a punctured lung. another woman is paralyzed. san francisco police say the driver in the van was speeding overnight and plowed through a stoplight into a charger. no one in the back of the charger had a seat belt on. and in the van they found significant amount ts of cocaine. the driver is facing felon drunk driving charges plus possession for sale and transportation for sale, ininvolving the cocaine. one passenger in the van is facing charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. i'm christie smith. back to you guys in the studio. members of hell's angels say a deadly hit and run was a member of road rage. eddie hall from oakland is

accused of hitting and dragging the rider more than a mile before he stopped. that was around 4:00 saturday afternoon. members tell the san francisco chronicle the victim is a man named george. mab riding with the victim claimed hall swerved into the group because he thought they cut him off. he did not have passengers at the time. he was booked on suspicion of murder. police are still looking for a hell's angel member accused of shooting a fellow hell's angel at a funeral earlier this month. they surrounded a home saturday after getting a tip that 38-year-old steve ruiz was hiding inside. they never found ruiz in the home.

he is accused of shooting a 52-year-old to death. in word yet this morning on whether or not the coast guard will resume the search for the missing kayaker in the san francisco bay. the missing kayaker got too close to a tug boat on pier 80. the eye kak was caught in the current and overturned. the man never resurfaced. >> i turned around to see how he was doing. his boat was already over. get out of the boat. get out of the boat. so he was already out and under. oh god. >> san francisco police and fire along fw the u.s. coast guard searched the waters for hours. occupy oakland camp is moving along. that was issued on sunday. the first order went out on

friday. both threaten arrests if campers don't leave the plaza. enforcing parking restrictions and handing out tickets to any passing motorist who slowed down to give protesters donations. >> the search for survivors in turkey continues just a day after the earthquake killed more than 200 people. more than 350 people are injured and hundreds of mud brick homes and villages just crumbled after the quake hit yesterday. concrete buildings became rumble. more than 100 aftershocks have been recorded so far. the number of people killed is expected to rise. the 2012 presidential election will likely turn on the economy ebb, and this week it's the focus of the president's and

forecast. >> relative humidities through the mountain passes. tuesday into wednesday. this morning getting a break from the heat. we had a little trough trying to dig into the bay area. it will fall apart before it makes its way here. as a result we'll see a lot of fog. especially between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00. noticing the fog creeping in on the bay bridge. 52 in novato. it's 61 in san m tarateo. starting tonight into tomorrow and then really wednesday we'll see the offshore push. we're expecting clear conditions at the coast as opposed to what we'll see today. that's tuesday into wednesday. today through 11:00 a.m. dealing with significant fog at the coastline. 80 at redwood city. 73 in santa roouz. the temperatures overall coming down by 10 to 15 degrees from yesterday's highs. warm in the east bay. but we have e liliminated the m

to upper 80s. tomorrow morning not dealing with that much fog. and we're expecting the winds to get pretty gusty. in addition to the area of high pressure. we have a really dry air mass that will move in. if you're waking up in the east bay hills and santa cruz mountains or north bay mountains, expect dry weather. that means good hair days. 78 on tuesday. 80 on wednesday. i'm an optimist, you know. glass -- hey. you see what this frizz looks like every morning on my hair. we'll get a break from that. mike, i need your product. >> when i was a kid, i wanted more interesting hair, so i would have loved frizz or anything except straight. it's bone straight. always the other side of the fence. let's look over here. the accident in concord. it's off on the shoulder, but still in the intersection, near the intersection and causing a distraction for folks at port chicago highway. that's just off of 242. but again it's a major

intersection but the lanes are open there. we're also looking for major slowing for antioch westbound. we're down to 12 miles per hour. slow to love ridge. the 62 is pittsburgh. that's holding up nice lif. 680 with no delays through san ramone. a 22-minute drive out of the pass. in general, 40 miles per hour. we end with the bay bridge. no meters lights, but clearly a lot of folks want to head across the bridge. still to come, rescuers jump to action to save a hawk with a nail in its head in san francisco. president obama is coming to the bay area tomorrow. he's making appearances in l.a. today. you won't havear t h d to see one f them. a live report is coming up. dinner? candles?

president obama touches down tomorrow for his second visit to the bay area in about a month. but his first stop in las vegas today. andy is here to tell us what's on the president's agenda. good morning. >> good morning, laura. good morning, marla. the thing about los angeles is it's all about the guest list. it's hard to impress people who live here. when the president comes town, it's a little bit different. the president will land about 4:50. he'll head to ucla by helicopter. then from here he'll head to hancock park. if you're wondering what's going

on, two fund-raisers to tell you about. both a star-studded event. the first one will be held at the home of producer james lassiter. the cohost will include will smith and jada pinkett smith. the price of admission is $35,000 per plate. from there the president will head over to the home of antonio banderas and melanie griffith. the event is organized by a group of latino obama supporters. eva longoria will cohost that event. $5 thoushz and $35,800. the president will take an appearance if the jay leno show. that's his second appearance on the jay leno show since being elected. that will be his fourth appearance in total. in the afternoon the president will leave and head over to san francisco. so this will be his eighth visit

since being elected. the second in only a month. >> making a lot of money while he's here. thanks so much, andy. 6:15. a loaded undeclared handgun made it onto a flight at lax. police found the bag's owner and then detained him. they eventually let him catch another flight to portland, oregon. the tsa says agents did nothing wrong. halloween is a week away. don't if if you should have the warmout fits and cooler ones these days. they get smaller and smaller every year.

halloween is ha holiday where you are exposed to the elements. you're going house to house. you're going through the residential neighborhood, saying give me the candy. this year we are going to see a cool halloween. 90% certainty we won't see rain showers on halloween. some fire weather. we'll potentially see dry and gusty winds throughout the morning hours. that fog is creeping back in. something we did not see at all. as a result we broke records in oakland. 84 on saturday. 85 on sunday. oakland stay miss the 70s. the reason for the cool down is onshore flow and the fog rolling back in and hanging around for the first part of the day. 81 in san jose.

morgan hill hit 91 yesterday. temperatures in the south bay were the warmest yesterday. i'm going to bring your temperatures down to 80 today. offshore flow resumes tonight pushing the marine layer way out to sea. we'll also see a dry air mass simultaneously. we'll have to deal with very low relative humidities. and offshore breezes that additionally dry out as they push from land to sea. so relative humidities are expected tuesday and wednesday is the breeziest. stay on the breezy side for thursday. back to where they should be this time of the year. they head back to halloween weekend. >> spook me out here. over here, nothing to be afraid of in the south bay.

northbound 101, i have seen that stretch turn in the north bay direction. so things are on schedule for this portion of your commute. also heading up through pa palo alto. we had the construction clear without any incident. 280 up or down the peninsula, depending on your commute. it's moving nicely now. across the bay, it's getting more popular. we'll look at the toll plaza and see thousand things are shaping up down the east shore freeway. moving nicely with a 24-minute drive. you see slowing off the of if screen off 880 and funneling to the cash lanes. fast strak is still a big advantage. over the bridge to the city, still, about another eight-minute drive. just a coup of minutes longer than you might expect because of the volume of traffic. that will shift as the metering lights come on. back to you. >> 6:18 now. fire officials are warning

people living near big basin state park, you could see smoke rising in the area today. cal fire is continuing the controlled burn in northern santa cruz counties. fire crews say you could experience smoky conditions because of changing winds. you shouldn't be alarmed. crews will be on scene until the fire is completely out. we thought we would keep you posted. a new warning for expectant mothers. a chemical in in plastic products could affect their unborn child. more needs to be done to protect pregnant women from the chemical known as bpa. early funding showed pregnant women with higher levels were more likely to have daughters with increased behavioral problems. other medical experts are cautious over the findings.

it is unlikely to cause health effects at realistic exposure levels. gabrielle giffords is in north carolina to continue to her rehab. she has a long way to go since being shot in the head during a mass shooting in january. the arizona congresswoman will undergo therapy sessions in asheville, north carolina. doctors call the recovery so far miraculous. a san jose wildfire is taking care of a hawk in golden gate park that had a nail through its head. we have video taken by an nbc bay area viewer of the red tailed hawks rescuer on saturday. it fell out during here. to the center on saturday. rescuers think someone hit the bird. for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person.

san francisco has pretty thick fog. let's check the drive there and across the bay with mike inouye. >> definitely the fog is creeping in. we'll look to the east bay as the traffic volume really builds up right about here. westbound 80 approaching highway 4. there is now an accident. it has successfully moved to the shoulder in the last few minutes. any distraction causes more of a problem through san pablo and richmond. the metering lights are on. the backup is past the berkeley curve and west grand avenue. it's monday. >> there you go. it is 6:31. this morning a number of passengers involved in an early morning drunk driving accident. today in the bay's christie smith joins us live from san francisco with an update including both drivers involved. >> good morning to you. what the the chances two suspected drunk drivers get into

a collision. that's what police think happened overnight. the cars are gone from 10th and howard. you can still get an idea of what happened here from the tire marks that go on the sidewalk. all the way. the worst of it is that eight people were injured in this. including one person who was paralyzed. and another person who suffered a punctured lung. all of the wounded people were from the car or the van involved. police say they got a call around 12:40 that a van ran a red light and hit a charger coming the other way. they did no have their seat belts on. in the van police tell me they found what they're calling a significant amount of cocaine. they say that the driver of the van will face additional felon charges for the drugs including possession for sale and

transportation for sale and that the passenger in the van will also face conspiracy charges tied. i'm christie smith. back to you guys in the studio. christi, thank you. this morning, a woman found shot inside an east palo alto apartment. it happened last night near the university avenue interchange with highway 101. she is expected to survive. investigators are not releasing any further details. a man suspected of shooting a police officer is in police custody. this morning the cause of death remains a mystery. 32-year-old tyrone smith shot and injured a police officer on saturday. sacramento police found them seven hours later. officers forced smith to the ground and handcuffed him after he tried to escape. when smith tried to escape again he fell.

police say he passed out into the back of the patrol car and was pronounced dead at the hospital. no sign that his death was a result of police action. the woman accused of killing nursing student michelle le is expected in court this morning. 27-year-old giselle esteban is expected to enter a plea and find out what her bail will be. esteban is accused of killing 26-year-old le back on may 27th when le disappeared during a shift at kaiser hospital in in hayward. le's body was found last month. esteban skipped court appearance on doctor's orders. she's pregnant and a doctor decided she was not well enough to attend. a legal analyst says esteban is granted bail it would be limited and involve electronic monitoring. 6:4. jury selection begins in just district court in san francisco for the trial of two alleged gang members. this is from february of 2009.

luis herrera is charged with murdering a technician with the san francisco public utilities commission. he was killed near the daily city bart station. he is accused of racketeering, conspiracy and murder conspiracy. at the time police say it may have been a case of mistaken identity. seven candidates in the race for mayor of san francisco want election monitors to step in to oversee the voting process. the request of the california secretary of state and the department of justice comes in response to accusations of voter fraud on behalf of some of mayor ed lee's supporters. video in china town on friday shows workers from an independent group supporting ed lee, helping voters fill out absentee ballots and in some cases filling out the ballots themselves. >> we have a videotape that

essentially shows workers. telling people how to vote. helping them fill out their ballots. that's a clear violation of the elections law. >> if i heard somebody was doing that on behalf of me i would stand up and say that's wrong. as i would come out and say that should cease and desist. i would lead the full investigation of that. >> the mayor's campaign did not return our calls. but a spokesman for ed lee's campaign told the chronicle what's seen in the video is not illegal and is just a political hit against lee because he has that commanding lead in the polls. 6:36. warninging of a scam. they have hit several areas of the city. folks are offering to curb side paint home addresses for $20. they've been asking homeowners to leave checks for their services. but the city's municipal

lit start to really creep in on the coastline. we have a trough of low pressure. it's digging to the south. it's going to fall apart before it hits us. for us it will increase the onshore flow. we'll deal with cloud cover from redwi stid through novato. after that between 10:00 and noon, you'll get a break. especially concord. 80 as a result of sunshine coming in early. 76 in san rafael. and 70 today in san francisco. now as we head through tonight, change is on the way. high pressure rebuilds back here. that will drive the winds offshore and push the marine air. the fog and low cloud cover out to sea. as a result we're going to dry out. it will get breezy. the really dry air mass settles in for the next couple of days. tuesday into wednesday staying nice and breezy wednesday. by thursday, we'll see a little bit more of an onshore push drop off temperature wise.
