i'm jon kelley. >> we have very different weather to work with today and tomorrow and then things are going to start to come back to the norm as we head through the end of the week. but we're talking a red flag warning in place. we expect them to fall below 15% for three hours overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. and we have really dry conditions. we're watching for fire danger. we could see a very dangerous wildfire in the bay area. we have changes as we get closer to halloween. i have that forecast coming up. first, we'll talk about your ride. this is closed because of activity downtown.

880 is moving fine. broadway from 14th, avoid the area. we'll hand it to you for the latest update. >> police really stormed the camp there at the plaza this morning, taking over the occupiers there bob redell has been downtown all morning long. >> we're at 14th a block or two off the plaza. good morning to you, laura. this started around 4:30 when oakland police arrives with what was clearly overwhelming force. 200 to 300 officers showed up in riot gear. it took them 30 to 45 minutes to surround the plaza. many protesters, 25 x perhaps 50 left on their own right now

these are the ones who chose not to leave. these are the people who were arrested. can i talk to you? >> absolutely. >> why did you stay until the end. >> this is occupy oakland. this is a liberated space. this is our city. we're not going to give it up to the banks or the cops or corporations. this is the people's country, right? it's time we start taking it back. >> ian has been arrested. worth it for you? >> definitely. i think it's really important to stand up for what you believe in. the goal is to get money out of politics. >> unfortunately our live shot froze. it's fascinating to hear from the people who have been out there for a couple of weeks now. but we saw the police go in this morning. it was somewhat of a peaceful

overtaking of getting these people out of the plaza. >> they clearly had a game plan in place. they continued to read the riot act to people. christie smith reported about 50 police officers. this isn't over. 50 police officers moving in on another location. >> and just one of many occupy camps that have taken over the bay area nation. >> doun south san jose police say an occupy protester is still standing an a three-story tal wall there. other protesters say that's 27-year-old sean oh kelly. police say they are taking a wait and see approach.

police have shot and killed a fugitive on the run. ufrss confronted him before 6:00. he was armed with a handgun and refused to drop it. that's when officers opened fire hitting the man several times and killing him. he was wanted on particularly and a probation violation. they had a toy gun, not a real one. 25-year-old javier gonzalez left a halloween party, passed out in the stairwell with a golden toy gun in his waistband. when they woke it, he was making a move to the real gun. that money is expected to recover. >> this morning we know the name

of a motorcyclist killed in a hit and run. george lopez junior of stockton. police say the driver of an east bay p p para transit van hit lopez intentionally. the driver, 31-year-old eddie hill from oakland facing several charges including suspicion of homicide. zbr police are offering a $10,000 reward as they search for the second suspect in a triple murder. paul stevenson iii was charged with killing three people and attempting to kill four others. prosecutors say they opened fire early krer this month. if convicted, stevenson could face the death penalty.

>> this afternoon president obama will make a skik stop in san francisco to attend a fund-raiser. spoerts aren't the only one who is will grassroot him when he arrives. good morning, marla. >> jon, good morning. it's been less than a month sense president obama's last visit to the area. that was at a home in atherto. in today it's all about lunch here at howard and 3rd in san francisco. for now it's quiet. the president is scheduled to arrive at 12:45 this afternoon.

it will also include a special performance by singer jack johnson. inside the hotel, the focus will be fund raising. outside the focus will be anti-war. the occupy movement and pro medical marijuana. again, hundreds are expected. they're upset with the recent crackdown statewide. the president spend yesterday and last night shaking hands and raising money in southern california. he dined with magic johnson and will smith who paid $35,000 a plate last night. again, today, president laum will be having launch at the "w" in san francisco.

today, tomorrow. the warning is in place through thursday evening. you'll need the chap stick for someone who suffers from dry lips. we start to see that move in now. behind this trough is the dry air. it's moving in. now what happens is this guy will keep sliding to the south as we head throughout the day, allowing for high pressure to build back in. that's what we see at the wind events. for us, that will dry us out. clear and crisp. 51 in concord. watch out for thick fog through the napa valley. temperatures today on the comfortable side. a little cool if you're going to head towards the coast. 65 degrees in san francisco. 68 in santa cruz. it's that trough that cools you down, though. temperatures in the 70s in places like san jose and fremont

for today. high pressure drives the marine layer out to sea. so we'll see fog free days through tomorrow morning and thursday. the cold air will settle in. cold and clear tomorrow morning and a windchill factor in addition to that. winds will relax on thursday. then temperatures end up in the 70s closer to halloween. >> highway 4 is pretty jammed up. also in the opposite direction there's a disabled vehicle. there will be a traffic break over the last few minutes.

police are marching in a single file line. the opd heading somewhere else. we've been told potentially something is happening. it's been nonviolent so far. the time is 6:14. christie smith is live in oakland where hundreds of protesters have been arrested already at the plaza. what can yo you tell us now? we shot video that i wanted to show you.

officers are lined up here as they have been. supporters of the protesters came on this side and started shouting down officers. they were there. some of them tossing garbage cans in the streets. at this point i'm not sure where all of those people who were here are, but i can tell you that i spoke with oakland police. they haven't given us information on how many people have been arrested overnight in oakland. one woman was arrested for sitting in the street here. hat this point they have people moving through the streets.

there was a kitchen and library and garden and small school in there. when police took it down, they really took it down. the city said they received complaints about things like public urination, increase in rats, threats and intimidation to people walking around the plaza. and then on thursday, of course, they issued the notice to vacate. there was a second one. the protesters did leave. then out the the blue it seemed oakland police showed up. we're also seeing uc police out here. they said they're going to name the agencies when they speak with us later this morning.

you see a lot of officers on different blocks standing around like these officers are doing. they don't engage. they stand fee feet back, as they're doing. at this point occupy oakland is effectively over. back to you guys in the studio. >> christie smith, thank you very much. >> the race continue this is morning. it's hard to make out in the pictures. but this is a like look at oakland police that have raided a park area. not as many people that were in the plaza tent city set up there. but they're taking over all these camps as they continue their raids this morning. we'll bring you all the live

pictures from throughout the bay area this morning. >> bob redell has been covering it. we have him out there to fill us in on what's happening there. very happy things have been smoot smooth. >> much cooler morning out there. you can feel it in the air. dry, too. >> it's not going to much to set off a major fire here in the bay area. we have very loel relative humidities in the forecast for tonight into tomorrow morning. through elevations above 1,000 feet. and if you're waking up with us this morning, the east bay hills, the north bay mountains and santa kroousz mountains, we are going to see gusty binds develop as we head throughout the evening and tonight.

i wouldn't be surprised if that's a reason they're trying to control the areas where people are lighting campfires. low relative humidity, gusty winds, warm temperatures tonight into tomorrow. we have the red flag warning in place. dry air is situated over the south bay. that's drying us out. also calm winds in napa. we stop the clock at 10:00 a.m. a lot of the moisture pushes back to sea. that moisture pushing out the sea, we dry out as a result. 72 in fremont. 74 in san jose. although it's not that warm, still warm enough. keep that in mind. we know all the larm and firefighters are privy to the

we'll get you out of the city. a good steady volume moving nicely. the backup to the 880 crossing on the oakland side. then we get you to the bart system as well. the 12th street civic center station down here in oakland is closed because of occupy oakland activity. also avoid the area for driving. downtown businesses urged to start later this morning. debris from the ere quake could arrive sooner than expected. it's all floating in the ocean and headed for hawaii. they're expected to wash ashore in the winter or spring of 2013.

welcome back, everybody. you're looking live at oakland. police forces moving over from the plaza. trying to break up the occupy oakland situation. now moving to a second occupation. that's at snow park. you can see the police on motorcycles and also on foot. the time is 6:25. this morning police in san francisco are searching for a yoo neek missing item. try a 5,300 pound bell. that's right. somebody stole the bell from st. mary's cathedral. police are hoping nearby surveillance cameras will tell

them when thieves took the copper bell and how they managed to take it. police say they hit a building a block away. now a reward is being offered for the safe return. >> for whom it tolls. 6:26 right now. 800,000 people left netflix over the last three months. 800,000 subscribers lost over the quarter which netflix raised prices and spried to separate the website to two only to change its mind. shares fell more than 30%. sat the same time they're losing customers they're paying more for hollywood movies.

you can see if you look up there to the right, police have that intersection. that's 19th and harrison blocked off. 10 to 15 protesters in here. it's hard to see in the dark. police came in 15 or 20 minutes ago and removed these protesters as well. farce the situation here goes at snow park, officers tell me it's secure. it's a matter of taking the protesters out of here and perhaps doing a clean up of the snow park. contrast this to what took place two hours ago where there was

overwhelming force. one has been set up for two weeks now within 30 to 45 minutes. what was noteworthy is how smooth the process was. one protester lit off a snoek bomb. a couple of bottles thrown in the direction of police. other than that, not much in the way of a physical confrontation. the arrests were made. they took them hand in hand without resisting. many protesters left before the police pushed into the tent cit

city. >> bob, thank you very much at snow park right now. let's take you to the other side. at this point they're gone. it's smoothed out and made things happen orderly. what's the latest right now? >> well, we move back to the plaza. except for a couple of people saying this is unusual, it's fairly quiet. police are here with support from other agencies. that's knocked down. they're taking out a couple of people. i've seen two taken out in hand cuts. they always seem to take them down the street, down past 14 street. i believe they have buses waiting there. at this point it's a much quieter scene than when police moved in.

they said it's illegal to be here. they should leave. if they didn't leave, they would be arrested. there was at least 150 tents set up since october 10th for occupy oakland. we couldn't really see what the protesters were doing. we saw clouds of smoke. they said they believe it was tear gas. shortly after they started bringing people out. i saw at least a few dozen people. some put in bans. some put in buses and taken out of here. her concern is she doesn't know where all the people who were arrested were taken. at this point we don't know either. police haven't given us a number

on the people who were arrested. but there was sort of a roving crowd through the streets here. so they said they wanted to get a lid on that before they really spoke with us. how many officers were here t support they got. how many arrests over at their office of emergency services near 16th street. you can see other officers filing out this way where it all started here. it looks like they're picking up the barricades. what they are doing, though, is they want to wait until public works gets here. theaf a big cleanup on their hands. this was a huge encampment with a kitchen and library and

children's center. there are still people walking around the streets trying to engage officer who is are not engaging them at all. much quieter than it was. >> we seem like we hear an amplified voice in the background. is that protesters or police trying to keep them in order. you get small groups of people who come and shout at us, the media or shout at police officers. one woman said it was cruel and unusual that they took her tent, they took her things. so they're mainedly directing it at what happened. maybe two or three of them at a time walking around. >> christie smith at the occupy oakland situation. thank you very much. great reporting all day long. well, it's only her 10th

month on the job. a grass roots effort is under way to oust oakland major from office. the group is looking for signatures for the recall petition drive. residents accuse her of being blind to the city's growing crime problem in the current state of the police force. the man leading the recall effort says he has several reasons to remove mayor quan from office, which includes her refew toll to reappoint margaret gordon. >> total total disregard for the competency of a commissioner. she's going to ignore that, which speaks to the health and well being of the city as it relates to the poor. >> so far 71 residents have signed the recall position. thesy will have to verify the signatures. they will have seven days to respond to the petition. no word if she'll respond to the petition this morning. but she has just called a press conference this morning.

a news conference where she mostlily will dreak the shoous of the occupy tent city that's going on and the police raid at those this morning. we'll cover that as well. >> a little bit ironic that the grass roots campaign is coming to a head. >> a lot of focus on oakland. >> the time is 6:40. let's check in with christina loren to find out what's happening with the weather. >> good morning to you. taking a live look at san francisco. you can see the breeze picking up. we're expecting strong winds this evening. that means you have loose objects in your backyard, you still have time to tie them down. you can vividly see the light here. the fog in the city itself is not too bad. temperatures are running on the cool side. we're in the 40s and 50s. colder as we start out tomorrow morning with the clear, dry start. red flag warning in place until thursday evening. we have low relative humidities.

this is something we're going to be very concerned with it. hapt been this dry here in months. this is a little trough of low pressure that's coming through. so what's happening now is this air mass behind it is really starting to settle in. now the relative humidity is a product of temperature and moisture. when we increase the temperatures, we're going to see the relative humidities drawing off tonight and tomorrow morning. high pressure setting up over the great basin and drives the marine layer out to sea. so we'll continue to see the winds come from land to sea, drying out along the way. so high fire danger. keep that in mind. 65 in san francisco. 61 in redwood city. it's not a great idea to have a barbecue tonight. if you are going to do so, charcoal, make sure it's completely out before you go back into your house.

welcome back, everyone. it is 6:46. it's going to be a noisy day in san francisco this afternoon. president obama is stopping by to attend a fund-raiser. marla tellez joins us live from san francisco with a look at the visit. good morning, marla. >> good morning, laura. we're right outside the "w" hotel at howard and third streets. you can see the "w" lit up over my shoulder. that "w" does not stand for warm, as in warm reception. because that is not what it will be awaiting the president when he arrives here later this afternoon. that's because hundreds of protesters are expected to gather outside here. they're going to be protesting a wide range of issues. i'll get to this that in just a moment. it was a much different scene

yesterday where he was. that's before dining with dig time celebs cleaning up magic johnson and will smith. that cost $35,000 a plate. today his efforts continue with a luncheon here at the "w." the price tag for lunch here is $7,500. it will include a special performance by jack johnson. this will happen soon after the president's arrival at 12:45 this afternoon. only after he makes his way through the mass of protesters expected at 10:00 this morning. they're not happy tw the crackdown on cannabis clubs statewide. they say it's a complete about face by the obama administration. they'll be joined by anti-war protesters and occupy sf

welcome back, everyone. you can almost taste fall in the air. it's cool out there. >> this is the time of year when we watch for the santa ana winds in the los angeles area. we have the same dry set up impacting us in the bay area. red flag warning has been issued. we'll really see the most in terms of the greatest fire danger between tonight and tomorrow morning. windiest tonight. tomorrow morning is going to be a little bit on the blustery side. the driest air will move in wednesday into thursday. but we're talking about dry northerly winds between 15 to 30 miles per hour sustained. gusting up to 50 miles per hour. and that's mostly for elevations above 1,000 feet. but, of course, we'll see a lot of if ill pact here at the surface. already seeing the breeze building right here in the city

of san francisco this morning. we expect the fog to develop. that's really the weather maker. the little trough came there through. it's already falling apart as it makes its way to central california. take a look at that over the past hour. now as a result you'll probably break out your chapstick later on today. we're not expecting the fog to hang around long. by 10:00 a.m. mostly clear bay area. then high pressure setting up right over the great basin. drives the santa ana winds through the los angeles area. we also see the marine layer way ut to sea. 72 in fremont. 72 in san jose. we don't get that much warmer through the midsection of the week. keep in mind today. high fire danger across the bay

area until thursday morning so mike, you know there's concerns when it comes to checkinging your fluids in your vehicle. >> definitely, definitely. and also a note for the drivers. if you see smoke when it's safe call in and report that as well. again, high fire danger. this is 101 with the slowdown. we have a typical commute billed in the northbound directions. 101 and 85. those two freeways bearing the brunt of the commute at 280. not to be left out. starting to slowdown at 880 and building downtown. 87 has the slowing as well. nothing compared to this. look at the travel times for the east bay. really slowing down for concord and 242. 680 and 580 in the middle of the screen out of the pass. almost half an hour towards the dublin interchange. without major incidents. let's see how things are shaping up on the roadways. we'll look at the oakland shot where we have the disabled vehicle reported north of the coliseum. another reported further north. two issues for the northbound

directio direction. >> lis are raiding the occupy oakland camp this morning, putting an ento two weeks of protest. christie smith joins us live where police enforce a second order to clear out the camp and clear out hundreds of protesters. goo good morning. for the most part all the activity is over. police are still here in large numbers. not doing a lot, though. the protester who is are going to be arrested have been. within the last few minutes we saw a truck pull up, a city truck. all the officers standing across the street grabbed metal barricades and set them up around the entire perimeter of frank ogala plaza. some are still doing that now. i saw a couple of officers going in. one took down an american flag that was hanging upside down here at the encampment.

there are couches. tables, chairs. all just sitting in the plaza where people have been set up since october 10th for occupy oakland. they had an idea that police might move in. all of the sudden, very quickly, oakland police moved in. we've seen badges from all over since we had a a chance to get closer to them. we saw the police department here. quite a bit of activity. some o the protesters walking by. we've seen quite a few people let out of here in the plastic handcuffs. we spoke with one protester who said she was pushed across the street. she's concerned about those who were arrested. some people out this way. they bring a majority of people the other way.
