where it's not a trick or a treat either. construction in the area has traffic slowing for quite a bit. it has for about 15 minutes. it will be slow out of downtown. a new accident is north of here southbound 880 at 23rd. watch for slowing there. we'll show you the maps coming up. >> three san francisco police officers were injured in an accident this morning. bob redell joins us live with the latest. good morning, bob. >> good morning. we understand all three of the san francisco police officers will be okay in terms they do not have life threatening injuries, though they are still at the hospital. the officers were in an unmarked police vehicle. they were responding to a call of a fan with a knife. they were heading south and

something happened where they lost control or they know how to make an invasive maneuver. the car was majorly damaged. and the three officers were taken to the hospital. we believe the injuries are serious for at least two of them that they might have to stay at the hospital. a third one might have more minor injuries. the good thing is sf general is just a block or two away. it's not like they had to be transported very far. the police will be checking the driver of the car, the officer, for possible alcohol, though they have no indication that he had been drinking at the time. of course, they were responding to the call of a man with a knife at 24th and york. not so far from this destination, this happening just before 3:00 this morning. right now, between 19th and 20th

the road is shut down. probably won't reopen for another 50 minutes. as a result, some of the traffic is going to be affected as well. >> pretty graphic video there. thank you, bob. >> oakland police ready for tomorrow's massive protest, calling for help from other agencies. thousands of people expected to show i downtown for a planned general strike and mass day of action. oakland wants to ensure public safety while still allowing people to practice freedom of speech. the protest is expected to start at 5:00 p.m. at 14th and broadway. santa rosa will decide whether to let occupy protesters stick around. the city council will hold an emergency vote on the issue tonight. santa rosa has a law prohibiting camping on public property without a permit. on saturday the city's mayor decided not to enforce this law. several dozen protesters were camped outside of city hall ever since. the full council will decide whether to let the decision

stand or push for the removal of occupiers. the trial of a fairfield mother charged with killing four children in a fire is expected to begin this morning. she is accused of burning deaths f her three child and her children's child. lit candles sparked the fire while she was outside talking to her sister and friends. three of the children wo died were strapped to strollers. san jose's new medical marijuana they are upset the ordinance limits the number of pot club fwhs the city to ten. the city clerk is trying to verify the signatures. if 30,000 are valid, the city

then an area of low pressure moves in. this will change our weather. gusty winds, heavy rain possiblily that lasts four or five days. first, let's check your drive with mike inouye. >> this is a very serious accident. as far as if impact on your commute, let's look at the maps. southbound 880 at 23rd. an accident involving some vehicle and a semi truck. all lans are currently blocked. they may be able to at least clear one lane. this is causing a problem from downtown. the earlier construction is still clearing up from the roadway. we're looking at the accident that bob is talking about closing from 18th to 21st. that will cause an issue for muni as well. we will follow this carefully.

of course, construction through berk three. that's not a major issue. the accident in oakland is the big one. steve jobs the man may be gone. but his legacy lives on. his home is always a treat for trick or treaters. last night was no exception. these are pictures taken outside his home. kids who braved it received fist-sized cell phone bags. steve jobs, if you recall, died back on october 5th. >> we now know where the 2012 presidential debates will be held. unfortunately not in the bay area. the commission on presidential debates decided not do go with st. marys or dominican republic university for next year. the two universities were among 12 applicants under consideration by the commission. instead the debates will be held at the university of colorado.

three camps they have set up was raided this morning. about 4:30 this morning because the occupy protesters there were actually setting up and squatting in a federal park. so it continues across the nation. the rare and monumental october snowstorm blanketing the northeast sadly turning deadly now. at least 21 people have died in several states, including eight in pennsylvania since the snow started falling over the weekend. most deaths were blamed on falling tree limbs, traffic accidents and downed power lines. it could take until the end of the week for full power to be restored. >> we know how lucky we are. simply beautiful. especially for the trick or treaters. >> fall, in my opinion, is the best time year round. you get the trees, the leaves changing colors, it's so pretty. and we'll get a couple of clear

days at the coast starting today. look at this. what a difference a day makes over the golden gate bridge. very little low cloud cover tout there this morning. you'll find ragged patches in the usual spots over half-moon bay. so high pressure will make for significant changes as we head throughout the day today, pushing all the cool marine air offshore. really cool images coming from space. this is what we're talking about. highs in the 70s and 80s. lasting not only today but tomorrow as well. we have the red flag warning in place for elevations above 1 thourk feet. 71 in san francisco. 80 in san hah that rosa. so we have a pretty extensive forecast. starting with the swirl. take a look ast what's coming towards us. this is a significant dip in the jet stream. a lot of cold air. not a lot of moisture.

a car turned sideways. it did get into an accident with the big rig. right now coming out of oakland past 23rd. >> exactly. thank you very much, mike. >> three san francisco police officers in the hospital this morning awe crash earlier this month. bob redell is live at the scene of the accident with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. this accident highlights the dangers officers can face when responding to a call a little bit 2:00 this morning. there were three san francisco police officers. they were in an unmarked patrol car. they were headed down to a scene a few blocks away. this was a call of a man with a knife. but they never made it to the scene. here by 19th there are cars across the opposite lanes and into a light poll, totalling the

blew out the front of a home this morning, injuring a person. take ha look at video we just got in. fire crews say the explosion happened just before 2:30 this morning inside the home on ohio avenue. four people were inside the home at the time. pg&e responded immediately and shut off gas to the home. they say it does not appear it was a gas explosion but may have been some sort of other flammable liquid. >> the san francisco sheriff's office denying its deputies were responsible for injuring an occupy oakland protesters. scott olson was critically injured between protests next tuesday. activists had posted the names of three deputies they suspected of injuring olson after supporters identified him through vid yoef. they believe he was hit by tear gas or smoke grenade. but the sheriff department says most of their officers were not e kwipted with those types of

projectiles. and those who were did not fire them. the aclu is calling for investigation on whether excessive force was used that night. it is 5:33 right now. long shoremen are refusing to go to work at the port of oakland this morning. they say their lives could be in danger. they won't go back to work until they're safe from certain shipping containers. >> the concern is understandable if you work around this thing. the concern is some of these refrigerated cargo container units may explode when you roll them up. they showed us a picture of the containment unit that blew up in brazil.

there have been explosions in vietnam and china as well. dockworkers have been killed because of this. >> we did not know it was related at the time. we discovered today it was part of the series of containers. he goes onto say most companies are handing over records so union leaderscan make sure they are safe for if the workers. yesterday two of them did not. so the union is not working for them. and tloost at least one, the tribune is reporting that it may be closed today. i have tried reaching them this morning as well as the long shoreman unit. haven't heard back this morning. the poor and the coast guard are all working to resolve this. we did speak with a driver this

crystal clear in the city of san francisco. watch out for a few ragged patches of fog through half-moon bay and pacifica. the places that traditionally get fog. not as much as usual, but you may encounter a few patches on the way to work. we're not picking up reduced visibilities across the area. the winds are picking up out of the north at 10 miles per hour in fairfield. and calm winds in santa rosa. take a look at what your temperature is doing in fairfield. you're at 61 because of the dry northerly wind versus 50 in concord. 5 in napa. throughout the day the wind speeds will increase. sustained winds 10 to 15 miles an hour throughout the day. elevations above 1,000 feet. local heavier gusts up to 40 at times. high pressure is the reason why it drives the cool marine air

we'll have to work it out. we're looking at 23rd where the accident a cleared the roadway. just minutes ago all lanes and if 23rd avenue off yn ramp are cleared. then it will send a burst of traffic south. prepare for that over the next half hour. we'll looking at the east shore freeway. no major delays right now. we are looking now to livermore. wer seeing the volume build up. slowing out of the altamon pass. slowing in the heart of livermore and at the dublin interchange with 680. we have northbound 680 at allen rock avenue. the vehicle off the roadway is still there. that's partially blocking the off ramp. but it's open.

oakland major jean quan is fighting off a recall. the last thing we need is a divisive and expensive recall campaign. in 20 years ov serving oakland my only agenerda has been to wo hard for our diverse city. 5:49 now. san francisco's board of supervisors will look at new ground rules today. they are set to decide whether to pass legislation regulating nudity in san francisco. the proposal would outlaw nudity in restaurants. nude people would be required to put down a towel or something similar on a bench or chair before they sit down. that will enter to be dressed.
