a live look outside this morning. it's friday, november 4th. this is "today in the bay." >> well, good morning, everyone. good morning, friday. it's been a week since we've seen you. it's 4:30. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren and a rainy friday. >> we missed you, sweet friday. thank you for coming back to us. we have a lot of moisture still passing through the bay area. it's going to be a slippery, soggy start to your friday. but we'll see all this activity wind down and head out of hire the second half of your day. however, we have ponding out there, slick highways. we haven't had significant rain in some time. mike inouye, already and there's an accident less. at the interchange, you'll find the repair that needs to be

conducted later on. no lanes are currently blocked. there's a crew there. expect slowing and watch the slippery roads. i'll show you the flooding overnight as well. >> more and more people inspired by the occupy movements message taking their own action against big banks. some taking their money to smaller community banks instead. today a south bay businessman plans to do the same thing. marla tellez joins us with that story. >> scott, good morning. so far we heard quite a bit from the 99%. not a lot of the 1% until now. this is a beverage distributor. he is the 1%. he's going to lead by example. 75-year-old mike fox sr. says he's leaving bank of america. essentially he's going to pull out all his company's money and the funds from his personal

account from b ofa in a show of support from the occupy movement. we're not talking small potatoes. we're talking millions of dollars. fox is a prominent south bay businessman and well known philanthropist. they have about $8 million with bapg of america. he will yank that out. personally he's transferring several hundred thousands dollars of his own money. he tells mercury news he's not sure where he's going to put his money but it could land in a local bank. his decision comes just before what is being dubbed bank transfer today. tomorrow activists are urging everyone nationwide to move their money from the big guys to the little ones like a community bank of a credit union. me fox is a beverage tribute tor in the south bay. they distribute beer, energy

drinks and water. now fox says his bank transfer could take up to six months, and it's going to cost him at least $30,000. >> all right. well, 30,000. thank you very much. the occupy movement in oakland is getting as much, if not more attention than the original movement on wall street. thanks to tear gas and broken windows. last night a special city council meeting to address concerns from both sides. >> tlstz a group of pieceful people who are angry. they are saying in a word, enough. it's a very strong zbrup of people into violence. all kinds of other things. >> the violence in oakland has been grabbing headlines more so than the cause of the occupy noouchlt. the man you just saw says the rest of the occupy movement in other cities is still able to force the nation to take notice about the state of the actual economy. santa rosa protesters and city officials are fighting it out.

they're debating new rules for the encampment. the city wants every tent owner to get a separate permit and every adult camper must give his or her name to the city. they also want to limit the use of propane, fire and space heater to keep the campers safe. protesters say the rules are restrictive and defeat the purpose of the occupy movement. as so many protest capitalisms treatments of workers, sunnyvale's amd is laying off employees. christie smith is live in

oakland where pg&e plans to spend $400 million over the next two years in upgrades and improving customer service. good morning. >> good morning to you. happy friday. pg&e is saying plainly they really need to make major improvements across the board if they want to win back their trust. also working really hard on their customer service to the tune of $400 million to be spent over two years. the new ceo who came in september is saying it was clear to him that an overhaul was needed after reading the ntsb's report on the natural gas explosion in san bruno last year that levelled 38 homes and killed eight people. this new spending would come from the company's profits. and that's on top of $2.2 billion proposed to state regulators for upgrading

transmission lines and replacing 1,000 miles of leak proned pipe. they've asked regulators for customers to cover most of that portion. now the new spending should speed up leak repairs, improve service for things like small and mid-sized businesses, and cut the time that it takes to get new service started. that's what we have from here, reporting live in oakland, christie smith, scott, back to you. >> did she leave town willingly with her boyfriend, or was she forced? a 15-year-old girl has been missing since halloween. her parents and police are searching for answers. shelby harris last seen on halloween day. police say she's probably with 25-year-old gavin mcfate, who is wanted on an outstanding felon warrant. a witness may have seen the pair in concord tuesday morning traveling in an older black

honda accord or civic. let's bring christina loren back to the conversation. we have rain in the bay area. snow in the sierra. christine, a winter weather advisory in effect, above 6,000 feet until 8:00 this morning. temperatures are plunging as low as 10 degrees near truckee. that could make driving tough in the higher elevations. the tomorrow is expected to move in after this one. >> we have another one on the way. i wouldn't be surprised if they extend the winter weather advisory. the bulk of the moisture is starting to push south of north bay. let's show you y the heaviest rain is coming down. get ready for rain to hit your neck of the wids. san jose, you see the yellow. we got hit pretty hard. throughout the day today we'll continue to see all this moisture drift south. for us the cold air will start

to settle in a little bit later on today. your temperatures dropped off over the past hour by 10 degrees. i would not be surprised once the cold blast really settles in for temperatures to fall into the 20s. that means frost. it could make for a dangerous, slick commute. mike inouye always watching for you. 47 in san francisco. 47 in hayward. later on today the jet stream sets up right on top of the bay area. that's going to make very unstable air, and we could see thunderstorms. i'm going to stay here this afternoon just to make sure everything is nice and safe. it could fire off as we head throughout the afternoon. really low snow level. then we wake up tomorrow morning and may see the dusting snow. today it's going to be a little bit tricky for the first part of the day. the showers will clear out. then tomorrow morning the coldest air in seven months settles in.

wet streets. be careful. it won't fit in your basket, but you can pick up a new car. costco launched a pilot program, acting as the middleman between customers and dealers. the store negotiates the price and sends customers to the dealer to seal the deal. the program is proving to be successful. as an added bonus the new car owners get a $500 cash card. no word if the pilot program will come to the bay area just yet. new unemployment numbers due out this morning. analysts predict some job growth. not enough to bring down the unemployment rate. wall street enjoying two days of gains. bertha coombs is live at cnbc headquarters. good morning. >> hey, good morning. the futures right now are looking like we'll have a flat open. the markets are still keeping an eye on all of the drama in europe, and particularly greece. the prime minister is facing a no confidence vote today, but the country has dropped plans

for the controversial referendum, and that's what helps him put together two back-to-back days of triple digit gains. they will start today at 12,044. the nasdaq arizonaing 57 to close just below 2700. the jobs report will be the big focus this morning. economists are looking for 100,000 new jobs in october. and apparently costco is getting into cars. google doesn't want to be just on your phone and your computer, it wants the living room. they want to really shake up the cable television business they are looking at the high speed internet project in kansas city, missouri, and kansas city, kansas. and professional social networking site, linked in is

get ready for click conditions in hayward all the way to oik land. right now starting to clear at zi stinson beach. you're going to get a break, but yours are so close to freezing already. the coldist spot in the north bay. tomorrow morning, colder air settles in. so you might be waking up with a fair amount of frost on your vehicle if you park outside and live in the inland valleys. 37 right now in novato. meanwhile we have 40 nz the south bay and the east bay. a nice fair amount of cloud cover is overhead. as the jet stream moves in later today, it will create enough instability for us to see some strong isolated thunderstorms. so we'll continue to watch those throughout the day. the best chance will be in the higher elevations in the inland

valleys, theest bay hills, for instance. tomorrow all the cold air settles in. the cold front moves through, but the coldest air traifls behind it. that will settle in through saturday morning. so temperatures will be in the 30s and low 40s. san francisco, it will be very chilly start for you tomorrow mortgage. your seven-day outlook shows you we keep rain in the forecast through sunday. we'll see a few of the showers, possiblily around late saturday. i'm just not buying into it just yet. we'll see most of the action on sunday. then another round of rain to get through the end of next week. we'll talk about that. the good news is we meet back here monday, we get the extra hour of sleep. set the clock back one hour and hopefully we'll be refreshed by then. >> fair enough. thank you much. a whale of a story from santa cruz. a bunch of people coming within a couple of feet of humpback whales. one woman has the video to prove it. george shows us the footage.

we hope you woke you up with that music. 4:53. a former payroll manager for the giants expected to plead guilty to charges she embezzled more than $2 million from the team. 41-year-old robin o'connor accused of stealing money from the giants' employees, including players. she made transfers to her personal account. o'connor must forfeit more than half a million dollars, a 2011

from his teammates. yes, indeed. we have that and a lot more coming up. it's a feel-good friday. see you in a few minutes. two men accused of beating bryan stow appeared in court yesterday. 29-year-old luis sanchez and 39-year-old marvin norwood accused of severely beating stow in march. the criminal complaint against them put stow in a coma and brain injury, partially paralyzed him. the two men are still behind bars, unable to meet the half million dollars bail. originally a different man was accused in the case. let's check in with mike. everybody needs to be slow and careful. it's slick out there. >> the south bay is experiencing rain right now. it's keeping things slick. slicker conditions. we often see the single car

spinouts. there's an accident there as well. not many details. there are no major injuries reported. the rest of the northbound is moving smoothly. >> mike, thank you much. six men complete admission to mars, kind of the crew spent the last 520 days in isolation. this morning they'll be free. the experiment is designed to test the strains of inner planetary travel. the crew made up of men from europe, china and russia had been living in a 1700 square foot module in moscow for 17 b months. here you see them being locked in. 17 months ago. that's how long it would take for a real journey to mars. 250 days in flight. 30 days in orbit, a surface landing and then 240 on the way back.
