surgery for her injury. we're going to talk to her about the ordeal when she and her mother join us exclusively. >> seems like there's always someone there to shoot it, but no one there to hut help. rumors are flying in the uk that the duchess of cambridge could be expecting. she's been seen making some interesting choices, let's put it that way, when it comes to food and drink. we're going to take a closer look at the buzz. people are watching this poor young lady at every -- >> at every angle. >> maybe she just wasn't thirsty. >> perhaps. a little later on, we're going to have an inside look at an institution both here in nbc and in american pop culture. saturday night live. every weekend, we're putting together our show. guess what? the folks across the street at snl are doing the same thing, plugging away at theirs behind the scenes. i got a first look behind the scenes. finding out about everything that goes into the show that's made us laugh for more than 35

years. you know, i love what i do for a living. but if there was no such thing as "today" show, that's my dream job. >> they come in and have very long days. >> they go through those things over and over and over again. >> have you done to a show? >> i was at a rehearsal a million years ago. i'll have to get back there. we're going to start this morning with the controversy very surrounding presidential candidate herman cain and new information we're learning about those sexual harassment allegations against him. mike viqueira is at the white house. >> reporter: the lawyer for one of herman cain's accusers says the specific allegations against him and there was more than one incident. with that accuser now saying that she and her husband now want to put this behind her, she's not going to be stepping forward publicly. the question becomes, can the cain campaign survive? early friday, herman cain got a

rousing welcome. >> i've been in washington all week, and i've attracted a little bit of attention. >> reporter: but by late in the day, the lawyer for one of cain's accusers says he believes there's little doubt of the gop front-runner's guilt. >> where there's smoke, there's fire, the fact that it's multiple complaints tells me that it's more likely than not that there was some sexual harassment activity by this man at that time. >> reporter: that came as the national restaurant association, where cain ran and where the allegations allegedly took place. that a sexual harassment claim was, in fact, filed against herman cain, ceo writing the association and mr. bennett's client subsequently entered into an agreement to resolve the matter without any admission of liability. sweeney also says the nra will waive a clause, barring cain's accuser from speaking out in person but now it appears she will not come forward.

>> mr. cain knows the specific incidents that were alleged. my client filed a written complaint in 1999 against him specifically and it had very specific instance in it. if he chooses to not remember or not acknowledge those, that's his issue. >> don't even bother asking me all of these other questions. >> reporter: cain's accounts of the incidents have varied since the story broke sunday night. by thursday, he issued a flat denial. >> sean, this is absolutely fabrication, man. i don't know what else to say. how many more ways can i say this stuff is totally fabricated? >> reporter: there is evidence that cain could survive politically. his campaign says it has raised $1.6 million in cash this week alone, four times the monthly average. cain sought to turn the page saying, in part, we look forward to focusing our attention on the real issues impacting this country, like fixing this broken

economy and putting americans back to work through our 9-9-9 plan. and a new poll taken has cain tied with mitt romney. >> reporter: jenna, that same poll, washington post/abc poll shows 70% of voters say this scandal does not matter to them when deciding who to vote for in a republican primary. jen jenna? >> mike viqueira at the white house, thank you. here is lester. nbc political analyst richard wolffe joins us now. >> good morning, lester. >> very often, it's a death spiral as the dribble, dribble of information comes out and eventually they crash and burn. you heard the poll numbers there. that doesn't seem to be the case with cain. is that so much a judgment on him as it is the media and how we're covering this? >> it's a little bit of both but this is a different candidate, different environment. you have to understand who he appeals to, why his numbers are

so high in the republican party. he has this ultra conservative base who hate the media more than the general population. with this particular block, the more he's attacked or perceived to be attacked by the media, the more he faces these persistent questions about his behavior, the more popular he gets, the more fund-raising he can do. toughing this out with this particular crowd, that's important in the early states like iowa or south carolina, that's great for him. with the general population, though, with other voters, the more moderate, centrist republicans, that's where he'll see erosion. >> every potential candidacy starts with the question are there any skeletons in the closet? at the time of the settlement in 1999, he was dropping his first presidential candidacy. it was a fledgling candidacy, just $20,000 in the bank.

could there be a tipping point in this candidacy? >> the problem for him, more of this stuff dribbling out, the more accusations, the more people, the more firsthand accounts come out, the less he can talk about jobs, as he says he wants to talk about or his 9-9-9 plan, which he has been talking about consistency of messaging. his actual overall numbers against the president, if he were to get the nomination, have stood up pretty well. when those start to decline because he's not hitting the main subject voters care about, that's when you're going to see softer republican voters in these primaries, in places like california saying maybe he's not the guy to go head to head with the president and that's when the erosion comes through, but there's a time delay. >> no one seems to be talking about that this is the guy that's bucked all the odds here as the front-runner. there's perry and romney. everyone speaks about them as being the eventual front-runners in all of this. yet here cain continues to stand

at the front of the pack with all of this. what does that say about this race in its entirety? >> i think it says about the volatility and the surprises that this electorate has given us, not in this cycle but in 2010 and 2008. remember, for a long, long time, people did not want to accept that someone named barack obama could never win the nomination, never mind the presidency. whatever the differences are -- and they are enormous -- between herman cain and barack obama, you are looking for something that is new, that doesn't sound like a politician and this may reinforce the idea that he's not your typical politician. >> now to jenna. new job numbers out friday showed that unemployment dropped just a tick to 9% last month. joining us with more insight is steve liseman. good morning. >> good morning. >> it's up a little bit in the

past couple of months, but are you surprised by that number? >> no. it's about around what they were expecting, looking around 100,000, most economists on wall street. they got 80. the most important thing about this number, it's still tepid job growth, not enough to bring down the unemployment rate and not relative to the 14 million unemployed. but the one good sign -- one of the good signs inside the report is that they went back and revised upward august and september. they added an additional jobs. we created about 200,000 private jobs in september, about 100,000 in october. one of the real places we're losing jobs is government jobs, state and government lay off workers. >> unemployment numbers fell and, two, on the flip side, more people reported leaving their jobs. what do we take away from that? >> it's a counter intuitive

indicator. people hang on to their jobs when times are desperate. they will not leave their jobs voluntarily. we had an uptick in job levaver that economists see as a good sign. numbers remain ridiculously high, 5.8 million people unemployed for 27 weeks or longer. the single most economic problem in this country right now. we did get a tick down of about 300,000 workers or people in that category who were not unemployed for that long. >> so, big pictures, are any of these numbers enough to make a difference to give us the light at the end of all of this? >> in september, we thought we were going into a recession. these numbers tell us there's no recession. job growth still remains very weak. has to be in the 100 to 150,000 range to immediately start bringing down the unemployment rate. >> we'll have to wait and see on that. steve liesman, thank you, as

always. craig melvin is sitting at the news desk this morning with the headlines. >> good morning to you. we just learned moments ago that andy rooney has died. the long-time commentator on "60 minutes" was 92 years old. he had just retired from the show. to greece now, where george popendraos hopes to secure funds for the bankrupt country. michelle, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, narrowly surviving that confidence vote overnight, ended up with a three-person majority but after he formed a coalition. this means that the european bailout of greece will likely move forward as planned. the specter of greece defaulting, running out of cash, leaving the euro zone was

starting to rattle the markets. some saw this as a second global recession. will the opposition here continue to press for snap elections and that kind of political turmoil could, you know, delay a bailout. also, will greece be able to continue to enact these austerity measures like raising taxes, lowering wages that many here see as grossly unfair, greg. >> michelle kosinski, thank you. a huge crash involving at least 20 cars and six trucks there. the collision happened friday on the m-5 highway. several were killed, over 30 were hurt, some seriously. the cause of the collision was not immediately known. two dozen people got sick at a football game friday night in texas. barnett was evacuated after students, mostly band members, complained of nausea. that is under investigation.

involuntary manslaughter trial against dr. conrad murray, deliberations started friday. court officials say the panel of seven men and five women have not asked the judge any questions so there are no indications of its progress just yet. we will have more on the case in our next hour. gabrielle giffords and her husband, former astronaut mark kelly, have written a book about her survival of a near fatal gunshot to the head. it's about her slow and agonizing efforts learning how to talk and walk. that will be released november 15th. that's the news for now. >> so difficult to hear about andy rooney. >> yeah. >> just one of a kind. >> and we just saw him a couple of weeks ago. >> right to the end. >> we'll have more on his life in a couple of moments. we do want to get a check of the weather from bill. last weekend, we had a huge snowstorm in the east. little bit of snow in the west to deal with.

>> with a family like mine, they refused to allow me to give up. >> that wasn't going to happen. >> then not teaching me how to give up, i'm a fighter, here a fighter. >> and then another man convicted of a crime, james harden, released the same afternoon. >> i've been sitting for nearly 20 years, so let me move. >> his brother, jonathan barr, was to be freed as well. they were teenagers when they were arrested in 1991 and accused of a raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl. even though none of their dna matched evidence from the crime scene. the case began to collapse earlier this year when a judge agreed to have crime scene dna retested. it turned out to match the dna of a convicted rapist, a man who was 33 at the time of the murder and lived about a mile from where the body was found. he's now in jail on other

charges. while harden and barr were in prison, they missed out on high school and any chance at college. >> they missed the best years of their lives. meanwhile, the real perpetrator is at liberty out there creating more serious violent crimes. >> defense lawyer says about one-fourth of those wrongly convicted gave false confessions and teenagers are pressured into admitting something to make the interrogation stop. >> can you even imagine what that's like? >> you don't get that kind of time back. >> spending all those years, knowing you're innocent. >> and everyone around you saying, i didn't do it, i didn't do it. you look at that and it makes you think about when you're ever called for jury duty and the huge responsibility that you have in a case. we see these cases all the time.

about the women but we do know that three women that survive remane in the hospital. we'll continrehestory story for you, bring you details as they become available. this morning, three people in a san francisco hospital after a shootout last night in the mission district. san francisco police say they were called to 16th and hoff street around 11:00 last night finding three people suffering from several gunshot wounds. they were taken to the hospital. their condition is not known at this hour. police do not have information on suspects so they're saying anyone with information should call san francisco police. a south bay sheriff's department could be stretched even thinner if a peninsula city decides to shut down its police department. today millbrae city leaders let them vote to take control of patrolling the city. city leaders aren't sure whether they can afford to spend roughly a third of the city's budget on their police department. the city has already cut about a

vehemently denied. now the website tmz reports that the young woman previously accused a former boyfriend of being the father, as well. >> i'd just like to say basically that none of those allegations are true. and i know that i'm going to be a target, but i'm never going to be a victim, you know? i think it's just crazy because every night after the show, i'm gone right from the stage right to my car, so it's crazy that some people want to make up such falgz false allegations. but set the record straight, none of it is true. >> do you know this woman? her name is maria yeater. >> never met the woman. >> as soon as the news broke, bieber and his team issued a denial. >> he's been comfortably speaking publicly about this which says a lot. >> what the canadian krooner really wanted to talk about the is his brand new album, "under the mistletoe." all of the proceeds will go to charity, including the food bank

rise of bullying across the country. thousands are victimized it, including a 15-year-old girl in an attack that was recorded on video. first, here is nbc's janet shamblian. >> from the look of her, two black eyes and a broken nose, you would think patti fabian had been mugged in a dark haalley. >> i was alone, so i felt helpless. >> but the vicious attack happened in a place that's supposed to be a safe haven for young people, on the campus of her very own high school. other students watched the beating and recorded it. >> they just don't feel like they should have gone that far, to put identity youtube. >> it happened near dallas, but it could have happened almost anywhere. youtube is full of similar teen on teen fights. >> we'll continue looking at

things and making sure that we're doing everything that we can to maintain the environment is as safe as possible. >> but patti's mom is skeptical, saying her daughter has been pulleyed on campus for the past year. >> i don't think she's been protected, they're still bothering her and calling her names. i don't feel the school can protect her at all. >> the student who patti says attacked her has been suspended and police have charged her with misdemeanor assault. in texas, that could mean up to a year in jail. >> we take this very seriously. that's why we filed the charges that day. >> patti is struggling emotionally now and not sure they can go back to school. >> i'm a bit afraid, just for the fact that i don't know if they'll do it again and i don't want anything else to happen to me. >> a fear that may never leave after a texas teen is bullied. for "today," janet shamblian, nbc news, houston. and with us now, grace and

it go. like i took it way out of control. >> you know, i see this when i talk to you and there's a bigger issue here. these tapes come out, no one is in there rush to go help you that i can see. instead, someone is shooting this. is this someone who was with the attacker and -- >> yeah. that they're all they are friends. >> that whole group was there. it wasn't just one person, it was several people with their phone cam ss ras. when did you find out that the tape was out there? >> when we cot goc from the emergency room. some friends of ours came out and told us that the video was on youtube and i couldn't believe it. >> you were both brave to come on and talk on national tv. patti, you weren't crazy about going public here. >> i told her when you all called us and she was like, no, mom, i don't want to do it. and i was like, but you know now you're just not speaking for yourself.

we've gotten so many e-mails from parents and kids and nobody helped. >> this is a broken record. there's so many stories like this. and now this is a door that's legion locked for you. all these e-mails of you guys. something hasn't changed. and it hasn't changed any. what more has to happen for them to make a change? >> hopefully we can prevent this from hachg to another person. this is certainly well worth it. we're going to take a break and be back with more after these messages.

temperatures later on this day will slowly warm up around lunchtime. showers in the north bay pushing south towards 4:00 across the bay area. those clouds, though, will probably block some of the sun so we have the chilly start to the morning, i don't think we warm up much this afternoon. mid to upper 50s for highs. tomorrow around this time, we get an extra hour of sleep thanks to rolling back the clocks an hour tonight and might see lingering showers for the morning but clearing and cool to wrap up the weekend. second half of the weekend should be drier, especially tomorrow evening. >> okay. thank you very much. it happened again, for the second time since occupy protesters clashed with police, a u.s. war veteran is seriously injured. this is video from the night and the confrontation. our cameras were rolling when ken was arrested late wednesday night in downtown oakland. friends say he wasn't protesting but walking near the occupy protesters when he came face to face with a wall of police. they say that's when police beat him for no reason.

>> he told the cops they shouldn't treat people -- why are you doing this to an american citizen? >> i don't think any human being deserves to be assaulted by speaking their mind. >> he is now recovering from a fractured skull in a hospital bed at highland hospital. he is not the only war veteran making head leans for being hurt in protests. scott olson suffered a fractured skull last tuesday when police clashed with the crowds. depending on who you talk with, today is bank transfer day. an organization of set up consumers is urging bank customers to shut those accounts in favor of credit unions and community banks. this movement already forced bank of america to reverse the decision to charge customers a $5 debit card fee. following the same spirit, residents of san francisco's neighborhoods are calling on banks today to help homeowners facing foreclosure.

he had some minor surgery. he ended up dying from xlim complication peps we're going to get more on his life and career in just a moment. >> then in los angeles, we are essentially on jury watch. the trial of dr. conrad murray, he's been accused of michael jackson's death. we're going to bring out a couple of legal experts who have been following this case to help us sort out what the jury is up with here. then we're going to check royalty, as well. first it was, are they engaged? then it was, when is the wedding date? now it is is she pregnant? kate middleton made some -- let's call them interesting choses as to what she's been eating and drinking lately. we're going to find out more from london, just ahead. then we've got a fun story. somebody dropped their sign. >> i've got it. >> i'm good. >> that keeps happening. i always see that out of the

periphery. where did you get those glasses? i just noticed those. what were we talking about? oh, i know. talking about the story of the sportscaster in canada who enters a multi million dollar lottery, and he finds out because his fellow news casters call him on his day off from the air saying he just won a couple million bucks. >> as if you would ever give me your cell phone number. you always give me your work number where you're never at. first, a check of the headlines with craig. hey, craig. >> jenna, good morning to you guys. we start with that sad news you just mentioned there. andy rooney died friday night. he was, perhaps, america's most famous curmudgeon. millions tuned into his weekly commentaries at the end of the broadcast of "60 minute." he retired just a month ago.

shortly after had some surgery which led to calculations. andy rooney was 92. accusations continue to mount against herman cain. but so do donations to his campaign. wee get the latest from nbc white house correspondent mike viquei viqueira. >> a lawyer that appeared before cameras yesterday says herman cain knows very well the specific allegations. he was once the head of the national restaurant association in the 1990s and indeed, that association yesterday put out a statement confirming that there was an agreement between the association and one of the accusers back in 1999. the accuser, however, is done speaking publicly. she will not appear in public. she says she and her husband want to turn the page and move on with their lives. meanwhile, herman cain, as you pointed out, craig, over the course of the week has raised $1.6 million for his campaign.

>> mike viqueira, thank you. and the labor department says hiring slowed in october b. just 80,000 jobs were added to payroll, but the unemployment rate edged down 9%. that's a six-month low. meanwhile, job gains in prior two months were stronger than previously thought, pointing some some improvement in the still weak labor market. some jet blue passengers were getting their money back during last week's freak fall snowstorm. hundreds of passengers were stranded for as long as seven hours on the tarmac at connecticut's bradley international airport. jetblue is giving them a refund on that ticket and giving them round trip tickets for future flights. and it is beginning to feel a lot like christmas in the nation's capital. the national park service holding an online lottery for free tickets to attend the national tree lighting ceremony on the eclipse in washington, d.c. if you'd like to go, visit the nationaltree.org before 10:00 eastern monday morning.

dr. can rad murray responsible for the superstar's death. >> you've heard from, i believe, 49 witnesses. you've been presented with 330 plus exhibits. >> the prosecution tried to present murray at careless and degreedy. do you really believe it was the anticipation that conrad murray is going to be paid $150,000 a month and michael's sleep, that can rad puree has left him there complaining and is simply on the phone elsewhere, or is it more reasonable that michael jackson is being infused and is, in fact, asleep, and can rad murray has been going about his business of telephone calls, e-mails, text messages. >> they were quick to bring up jackson's three children. >> they do not have a father because of the actions of conrad murray. >> for the defense, it was a very different closing.

>> they want you to convict dr. murray for the actions of michael jackson. they just don't want to tell you that. >> hoping the jury of seven men and five women find jackson gave himself the fatal dose. >> at one point do you draw the line about dr. murray's responsibility for a grownup? this is not a reality show. it's reality. and the decisions you make, is it making good tv is how it affects real human beings and people that love you. so i hope that you do the right thing and find dr. murray not guilty. >> reporter: so far, there has been no word at all from the jury, not even any questions, leaving some to wonder what the timing may tell us. >> this jury is struggling with coming to a verdict. in long cases where the jury goes past friday afternoon, that's generally indicative. the jury has been there for a

while. the prospect of coming back on a monday morning is never something that's welcome. >> fwu jury will be back on monday morning to continue deliberations as many now wait to hear what they decide. for "today," kristin dahlgren, nbc news, los angeles. here with more inside msnbc's martin bashir. su sonny, how difficult a question is it before the jury right now? >> it's a pretty difficult question because they need to determine causation. they need to determine whether or not michael jackson killed himself or whether or not the defense is possible. we heard so much evidence of addiction and there are people on this jury, it's a very unique jury, by the way, that have had addiction in their families. they've had addiction kill their loved ones. and so i think they're really struggling with those theories. >> the prosecution offered a lot of evidence against him, but at the same time, did they ever really get us inside that room? do we really know what happened

in there? >> i think so. i mean, i have to tell you, even if -- i'm a former federal prosecutor, but even when i take my federal prosecutor hat off, i think the evidence was significant that dr. murray did things that were so beyond the pale. such extreme deviations from the standard of care. every single doctor that i've spoken to, every single doctor that testified said you just don't do this. this is simply something that is not done. >> and, martin, let me get your thoughts on the fine line that the defense had to walk here. they had to take a man, who is already a tragic figure in the minds of many people, michael jackson, and basically say he did this to himself. was that a -- did they walk that line carefully enough is in the? and could it come back to bite them? >> i think they did. if you remember, the defense attorney said, anybody has to say it, somebody has to say it. if it wasn't michael jackson who wasn't the subject of these proeths proceedings, then can rad murray wouldn't be here.

the fact that this case had even been brought. but the prosecution then exchanged that he was the doctor who was, in effect, conducting a scientific experiment in a brchl. something that not a single anesthesiologist anywhere in the world would have perpetrated, propofol in a bedroom without any resuscitation equipment and failing to monitor the patient at all times. >> and then there's the tapes. and the tapes, i mean, this goes on for the narrative of the pitiful figure, michael jackson, who is being record perhaps without his knowledge, but how does that play to a jury to hear michael's slurring these words and barely able to talk? >> i think it gives the impression that here was a man who was desperately under pressure. he was preparing for 50 separate shows. and one of the defense arguments has been that that pressure that came from the constant promoter was overwhelming for michael jackson and that was why he took

medication. what i knew of him, we traveled from las vegas to berlin to los angeles. he wasn't preparing for a concert. he was very relaxed. i never saw any drugs. therefore, it's hard for me to imagine how he would be raekding with the prospect of 50 shows. having said that, there is the tussle in the spotlight. is there about michael jackson, the alleged drug addict, or is this a case about conrad murray, a disreputable doctor? ultimately, it's about murray. that's where the focus is. >> and sonny, the jury has not asked for any readbacks or any questions of the judge. what is your instinct as a prosecutor? on a friday, they say we're coming back monday. >> typically, a verdict that comes back quickly is for the benefit of the prosecution. so when the jury is digging in and they're willing to come back after a weekend, that's trouble for a prosecutor.

but this is a very unique jury. you've got nine people that have prior to jury experience. you have a biochemist on that jury. you have a paralegal on that jury. you have a professor on that jury. they've ordered in highlighters. they didn't have for evidence, you this they've ordered in highlighters. >> there's a lot of science here, propofol, loreazapam. >> and they are clearly focused in on the evidence. they're digging in and digging in. but we want them to do that. there is a man's life that hangs in the balance. we're talking about a potential conviction of four years in prison and the death of michael jackson. so we want them to work hard. >> we're going to have to end it here. thank you both for coming on and talking to us. still to come on "today," why the rumors on the british throne could be on the way. life. it's going to happen. i think the question is when. i think the queen's diamond jubilee is hugely significant. perhaps after all the celebrations in the summer, then they're maybe away to the scottish hills and babies may be on their minds. >> does it palace say anything about this? >> the royal families tend to do their own announcements, birth, death, marriages, that's what they do. they want to try to keep it to themselves. i think, obviously, that there's a very big year next year. i personally think they'll play their parts in that, traveling on behalf of the queen, and perhaps 2013 we'll be looking for a baby to actually be born with an announcement at the back end of next year. that's my feeling. but, you know, they are a young, inlove couple, and who knows. >> indeed, you are correct.

no one is under arrest. there's no no information about the three women except that the one that is survived remain in the hospital. we continue to follow the story for you an bringing you more details coming up at 7:00. this morning, three people are in a san francisco hospital after a shootout last night in the mission district. san francisco police say they were called to 16th and haas street last night finding three people suffering from several gunshot wounds. they were taken to the hospital. their condition is not released. police are not releasing information on suspects right now. they say anyone with information is asked to call police. a south bay sheriff's department could be stretched thinner if a city decides to cut the police department. today millbrae city leaders will let the public weigh in on the proposal to let deputies take control of patrolling the city. city leaders aren't sure they can afford to spend a third of the budget on the police department. the city has already cut about a quarter of its police force over

i couldn't believe this. you're running the new york city marathon. >> i was challenged to run it by subway, and i've never done this. >> have you ever done a marathon? >> my first marathon ever. the kicker is, if i finish under four hours, subway will donate $25,200 towards the special olympics. it's xiemed. thousands of people. >> and this isn't the kind of thing that you you go out and you run a couple miles and you're ready for the marathon. i'm sure there's a huge difference. >> completely different. the most common misconception is people say, apollo, you're an almost athlete. this should be easy for you. i spent over 15 years of my life preparing for a race that literally is 45 seconds long and i'm on skates. >> 40 seconds of a race and there will be apolo.

weekend. tomorrow, it moves down some showers for the big cities of here's a look at the cloudy skies moving across the bay area. 30s and 40s this morning and moving in to the afternoon we'll see the rain out of the north bay and pushing south towards south bay towards the late afternoon and evening. highs thanks to the cloud cover and the cool start we're seeing likely only to see mid to upper 50s for most of the bay area today. head over to the sierra, winter storm warning late this afternoon. tomorrow we start to clear out, cool and breezy finish to the week. that's another chance of rain passing the middle part of the week. what a game we have four this sunday night. might as well call it the black and blue game. we're talking about two of the hardest hitting teams, best defensive teams in the league. we're looking at the baltimore ravens and the pittsburgh steelers. what a rivalry this is. and, of course, this will probably determine which team

ends up the winner of the division. back to you, jenna. back now with the woman who coined the term mama-jer. kris jenner is now both mom and manager to her children under the brand name they carded kardashian. she takes us from her early childhood to today in her first book. good morning, kris. >> good morning. >> i don't know if it's good luck or bad luck that you came the same week your daughter announced she's filinging for divorce. how is she doing? how is kim doing? >> she's -- you know, she's trying to hold up. she's really sad and very devastated about having to make a decision like that, as anybody would be. >> you're her mother. you're also her manager. you know everything about your daughter. suit to nuts, how surprised were you at this? >> shocked. i was very surprised. >> really shocked? >> really, really shocked. >> so what happened? 72 days. we all watched a lot of their relationship unfold in a good

way on camera. >> yeah. >> so what went wrong so quickly? >> well, i think that's for kim to explain. you know, i'm not here to be her personal voice, because i don't really know, to be honest with you. obviously, she had -- she told me she had prayed about it and thought about it and gave it a lot of consideration and had to make a difficult decision. she did what she had to do. >> can understand the backlash that's coming as a result of all this? what they're saying, it's a scam? you have to understand at least where that comes from. >> yeah. it comes from irresponsible people who are writing silly on york post and things like that. that's where it comes from. i mean, the fans have been more than generous and loving and supportive and this outpouring of love for kim. which is really getting her through. but i think when people write things that are totally untrue and just outright lies and printing it so that people -- you know, people believe sometimes that if it's written down and it's printed, that that's the truth.

>> you know, you do this reality show. >> uh-huh. >> cameras are there all the time. >> yes. >> you have to understand that you guys are pretty much fair game for the good and the bad. >> we are an open book, yes. >> and you're okay with that? >> you know, you have to take the good with the bad, of course. we knew what we were signing up for. i'm not an idiot. i know if you're going to put your family out there and we live life very truthly -- >> let's keep with that private life. now you've written a book and a lot of that private life is spelled out there for everywhere. why write it now? >> over the last five or six years, i've gotten hundreds of thousands of e-mails and letters asking questions about our lives and people are very curious, and i thought, this would be a great time to write a memoir and address all those questions so in interviews like this i'm not answering the same questions about where i came from and my life story. >> one of the things i was most surprised with is your relationship and how close you were with o.j. and nicole simpson. >> she was one of my dear

friends. she and i shared a lot of really amazing times and the birth of our kids and, you know, i am close with her mom and her sisters and she's an amazing -- she was an amazing friend and a remarkable mother. >> how much of a rift did it cause in your family that robert was part of this defense team representing o.j. simpson? >> well, it was extremely confusing for our kids, you know, to have one parent more or less on one side and another parent on another. so that was tough and it was really challenging for my relationship with robert kardashian. i have to end the interview with our halloween spoof. we tried very hard to do right by the kardashians this past halloween sunday. you watched it. >> i did. you were the best chloe. >> take a look. did we do well by you? >> bruce. he looks like bruce. >> and there you are, selling selling my stuff. >> you nailed me. >> and there we go. >> there's baby nathan.
