there will be a detour off the roadway. wait until 55:00 when the freeway reopens. >> they are not protesting wall street. they are not protesting corporate greed. >> last night police moved in to stop opportunities from starting their own occupy cal movement. >> right now there are three tents set up on the steps of the hall and a few dozen protesters out this morning. there are police standing around in their riot gear this morning. but they have basically been standing there and haven't moved in on them this morning after a long night with at least two huge clashes with the occupy cal demonstrators.

they tried to set up an encampment yesterday. police moved in, ripped the tents right down. batons were out. this after a long day of action on campus. and protests over tuition hikes and cuts to student services. >> they're conducting violence against us. >> we're here to protect free speech and the right to gather and the right to be able to eat food and have blankets and sleeping bags if we want to protest overnight. they could say 24/7 all night for a week. the tents and cooking gear, that sort of thing would not be allowed. i spoke with demonstrators here. they tell me they'll have a

general assembly meeting at 5:00 to decide what to do next. but they have already decided what they're going to do on next tuesday is hold a general strike similar to the one that was in oakland in advance of the regions meeting in san francisco. i'm christie smith. back to you in san jose. occupation is a tactic and not a solution. those words coming from oakland's mayor as she calls on city leaders to end the occupy movement. oakland city leaders clashing with followers at lake merit yesterday. when council might bes tried to voice their concerns, protesters shouted them down. soon after mayor quan called on officials to come up with a plan to not lead to additional injuries, protesters or police. is it a double standard?

occupy oakland protesters deposited $20,000 at wells fargo this week, one of the banks they're protesting. they received the money from occupy wall street organizers. they say they made a split second decision to wire the money into a supporter's bank account. that was at wells fargo. they say they were concerned for the safety of protesters who were in jail and they will withdraw the money very soon. it is 4:35 right now. this is one of two pipelines that runs underneath a middle school's soccer field. it's between middle field road. they would like to see both lines removed, pg&e plans on moving a portion and rerouting it through the campus parking lot and under middle field road.

>> going to have to do research and maybe think twice about coming over here. obviously it's a school. there's kids everywhere. that's of major concern. >> they saline 132 is safe after hydro pressure testing. the same reptured it over the weekend triggering the mud slide and wood slide. hundreds of concerns members are gathering to discuss an increase in gang violence. it was triggered by a drive-by shooting that left a 14-year-old girl dead. the town hall style meeting was held at the cultural center. many people agreed that police and community leaders need to do more to help kids keep out of trouble. they faced a judge yesterday, and they are being held without bail.

the men are facing life in prison if convicted. bay area leaderring celebrating the birthday of an iconic landmark meeting today. the bridge turned 75 on saturday. during the event the plans will be announced for bay lights. it will install lights on the western span suspension. we have final results from san francisco with 32,000 votes left to count. it's all but certain interim mayor ed lee will stay on. supervisor john avalos was the closest competitor with 38%. and a commanding lead over the competition. 64% in ranked choice voting.

the store is holding the grand opening ceremony this morning at 9:30. thousands of americans participated in bank transfer day, moving money to big credit unions. according to the credit union national association more than 40,000 people joined credit unions and brought in some $80 million with them. grass roots movement started on facebook and encouraged people to switch banks in protest of new fees, including the $5 per month debit card charge. bank of america has since dropped the plan. well, things are looking a little bit better this morning for wall street after more news on italy's pending change in leadership. for more on that let's turn to bertha coombs at cnbc world headquarters. >> good morning.

we have futures pointing to a 1% pop at the open if things continue at this rate. something is happening in grease. the vice president is likely to be the new prime minister. now kpst expect that had prime minister will step down. after the vote on the the budget he will step down. they had a bond auction this morning. it went better than expected. so the dow is coming off a 3% plunge. falling 389 points to 11,780. the nasdaq lost more than 100 points to 2621. the number of homeowners receiving foreclosure notices

jumped 10% from september. it's evidence that activity is picking up after slowing when problems surfaced after the robo signing paperwork issues. nevada tops the nation with every 180 homes receiving notices. california ranked second. and home prices continue to fall in nearly 75% of u.s. cities over the summer. most analyst ls say prices will continue to fall. and with foreclosures expecting to hit the market, they are ramping up. so we preeshlt that heading out the door. thank you very much. >> silver lining of the day, get out and enjoy it. >> this is a tricky forecast. i've been studying this area of

low pressure for three days. very subtle. we are going to get rain at the coast. it's just how much we're going to get that meteorologists are trying to wrap their brain around this morning. i'll show you why it's tricky. but for today we have nice weather in store for you. high pressure is still in control. nice clear start this morning. we have the leading edge starting to move in. an area of low pressure is cut off from the jet stream. these are the scenarios that could dump rain on the coast. we see these cut-off lows take shape offshore. potential for flooding is certainly there. but we have a lot of disagreement when it comes to the forecast models, so we're really working hard to figure this out. 68 in san francisco. 69 in redwood city. so we have an area of low

pressure cut off from the jet stream. it will set up just offshore. this could sit offshore and have rain bands pumping rain into the coast. for tus core could end up so far hout in the pacific that we don't see much rain at all. put your future cast together. i think we'll see periods of rain at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. i set this in motion for you. how long is the rain going to last? that will be determined by whether or not the storm turns stationary. so heavy periods of rain at the coast. then it will turn more showery. we'll have light showers saturday and sunday. i'm thinking we're going to see a rough morning commute. i'm forecasting half an inch of rain in the city of san francisco tomorrow morning. so could be dicey for the morning run. and we want to make sure you're aware of all the rain headed

your way. we'll tell you why they get the most coming up. hundreds of students take to the streets to protest the firing of joe paterno. several students overturned a tv news van and jumped on top of it, holding a photo of paterno. police in riot gear were there to disperse the crowd. several students were arrested and pepper sprayed by police. they fired him for the handling and limited action concerning the child sex abuse allegations against jerry sandusky. it is 4:50. a cringe worthy gasp by rick perry making headlines. perry said he would eliminate three federal agencies but

michael jackson's personal doctor. how did the cash-strapped doctor pay pr a defense lawyer? murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on monday. now a new documentary is about to air on television. representatives for jackson's estate say they think murray was paid by the film makers for the interview. murray's lawyers say murray paid them with the own money and they didn't discuss the financial situation. in the meantime, coming up on the "today show" savannah guthrie's exclusive interview just days before the verdict came down. let's check back in with mike inouye for a look at traffic. >> we'll take you to this the south bay where i had a couple of onramps to avoid. but now go ahead. it looks like construction crews have cleared the roadway. no problems for 880 down here.

880 past the coliseum. we'll see more traffic picking up as folks head north from 66, where you're looking north of there. construction crews still in a couple of spots. and we're watching the closure on the peninsula in palo alto. a san francisco puppy, a cute little puppy is home with his new family after a wild week. >> the san francisco spca says someone took james from the adoption center a few hours before he was supposed to go home with his new family. they offered a $500 reward for the dog's safe return, and yesterday a woman returned the 8-week-old puppy. she said she bought him for $200. she took the puppy to her mom who heard about the abducted dog an then took him back to the dopg center. >> looks very happy. >> little pup pi love.
