also a very active weekend in oakland, where occupy protesters say they will defy an election order a flier was circulated tonight and a plan to lay claim to the build sitting in. police and protesters are now on a collision course. oakland police hand out eviction notices at occupy oakland, telling campers to leave or ries ache rest. the notice comes after a man was shot and killed near the camp thursday. activists say city leaders are using the violence to their advantage. >> here every day and for them to jump on them to make it an excuse is senseless. >> reporter: but city leaders say campers are violating a long list of laws and must go if police raid the camp, this woman says she will do her goes rebuild it. >> when i was in the military, i gave an oath to defend and sport constitution of the united states and these protest tester is the first time i'm ex-ers

>> oakland police are putting up a $10,000 reward for the information for the two gunmen who shot a 20-year-old men on thursday. the deadly shooting happened near the occupy oakland encampment. the 20-year-old was shot in the head and part of the protest and died at highland hospital. witnesses say they saw the suspects at the plaza in the last few days. the shooter is described as an african-american man between 20 and 25 years old. a second suspect, also african-american, between 20 and 30. he has long dreadlocks with red tips. stay with nbc bay area on air and online as we continue to monitor this standoff. around the clock coverage on nbcbayarea.com. a day off from school for two boy took a tragic turn a 1 12-year-old boys of killed, his 8-year-old friend now in the hospital after they slid into and then underneath a garbage

night in a mountainous area of the country there are reports three men were arrested in connection with this kidnapping. since his rescue, ramos has spoken with his family over the phone. four armed men kidnapped him from outside his parents' home on wednesday with. ramos says as long as he feels all right, he will start to play again but he adds he underwent a lot of psychological stress. president obama is in his native hawaii this morning where he is going to start asian diplomacy talks. this morning, the president and first lady arrived in hawaii ahead of a nine-day tour of the asia pacific region. they walked out of air force one and shook hands with offs as at joint base pearl harbor hick ham. the president is hosting an asia pacific economic cooperation forum in hawaii. later today, expected to meet with china and russian's presidents as well as japan's prime ministerwa the president will also travel to australia and indonesia. the president's trip comes on the heels of a visit to

california where he and the first lady were on board an aircraft carrier in san diego to honor veterans. they also watched the tipoff of the college basketball season. north carolina beat michigan state in front of 7,000 servicemen and women on the deck of the "uss carl vinson." the president and first lady were nowhere near washington, d.c. when someone fired an ak-47 near the white house. secret service agents say they saw two cars racing down constitution avenue, firing weapons around 9:00 last night them issued description of the doors police. police sent down one of the cars and ak-47 ditched nearby. police say they don't think the gunfire was directed at the white house. the first family was not at home when this happened. we still have more ahead for you on today in the bay. still to come, happy birthday to you a bay area landmark celebrates a big milestone today. and around parts of the bay this morning, a little tough to see, we have some patchy fog,

those hazy skies. mostly cloudy skies to start. what is left of the showers already leaving the bay area, moving off to the south and east of hollister and gilroy, kind of a cool day though the clouds slowly start to thin out. we are going to see temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. tonight, see patchy, thick fog in a few spots and dry finish to the weekend, but a pretty interesting 7-day forecast coming up. show you that in a moment. first, oregon state and cal, of course, cal's temporary home already, pnc park, 60 degrees around game time. some dpleergt afternoon a later start to the stanford game, oregon in town. huge matchup with the cardinals today, temperatures upper 50s, close to 60, things turning breezy and cool as the game wears on it will be a dry forecast for both of our games today. you can see we dough have the clouds coming in from the north in terms of showers, things really dried out, all the action now transitions into southern california, we do have a weak frontal boundary moving in from the north but this is main lay

dry cold front. mid and high level clouds spilling in, all the rain and the deeper moisture is scoot writing there through l.a. and san diego at this hour. so today, showers sliding to the east, 50s and 60s, still a chance of snow showers in the sierra, close 206,000 feet. use caution, heading to the high country this afternoon. for tomorrow and early part of next week, storm track will stay off to the north, so, we will see some dry days, patchy morning fog, stay tuned this cold trough, going to drop out of the gulf of alaska, like this pattern we have been seeing last week, week before. classic la nina pattern, cold systems on the east side of high pressure to the west, pump in cooler air and you will see a big drop in temperatures come thursday evening on into friday. yes, rain will be coming back to the end of the 7-day forecast. today, 50s and 60s, slow clearing as you go through the afternoon, a little cool today, winds picking up a little bit later on. highs pretty uniform, one giant microclimate around the bay area, highs upper 50s to low

60s, here you go 7-day forecast tomorrow, i think we will be watching out for patchy, thick fog for the morning, same story for the first half of the workweek, then thursday and friday, highs in the 50s again and lots of snow coming back to the sierra as we head toward next weekend. >> thank you very much, rob. a big anniversary for a big bay area landmark. today marks the opening of an engineering marvel, the bay bridge. the bay area's second most famous bridge opened november 12, 1936. today in the bay, joe row sat the toe jr. shows us some of the past and some of the modern future. >> reporter: countless visitors from across the globe will surely fall for the romance of the golden gate bridge, but across the bay, its older sibling, bay bridge, is considered the bay area's workhorse. >> a six-lane double-deck bridge are, eight miles long. >> reporter: this saturday will market 75th anniversary of the opening of the bay bridge.

bob mckey remembers opening day had a lot of similarities to modern times. >> well, we watched a lot of traffic and there was a number of accidents, people just gawking and i think some people were just celebrating. >> reporter: though builders didn't break ground until 1932, the first mention of the brim was in the 1800s by san francisco's most famous eclectic citizen. >> it was back in about 1872 that emperor norton issued his deck kpri, directing that a suspension bridge be built forth witt between the cities of san francisco and oakland. >> reporter: it wasn't until the 1930s that edge caught up to norton's vision. the bridge took three years build at the a cost of $77 million. when it opened, the toll was 65 cents each way, but it's impossible to put a price tag on the economic engine it unleashed. >> we really needed that direct connection between san francisco and the east bay, so not only just for commerce, for normal

commuting. >> reporter: while the bridge doesn't share the fame of the golden gate it has plenty of tales of its own. for instance in 1986, a baby was born in a traffic jam between towers w 5 and w 6. >> ran into heavy traffic and my father, you know, was studying medicine, so did a fairly well job of delivering me, i'd say. >> reporter: it's most infamous moment was its failure in the 1989 loma prieta earthquake. 20 years later, a replacement eastern span is rising from the bay waters. >> the replacement of that has do with seismic safety and when it's done, it will be much stronger for generations to come. >> reporter: the self-angered suspension span will have the latest seismic technology, pedestrian and bike paths and sleek, modern look and hopefully, 75 years from now, it will have its own cake to celebrate. joe rosato jr., nbc bay area news. >> caltrans is planning an

this morning we goin depth with a drug you can't taste, see or even touch. the drug is making waves online because that is the only place that is it is available, all you need is a computer. today in the bay's garvin thomas had has a story and images that might be disturbing to some. >> reporter: the videos are all over youtube. people shaking, twitching, writhing, looking like they are

high, because that, they say, is what they feel. but not because of anything they injected or smoked. its a he is a drug they are listening to. so-called sonic or digital drugs, trucks you can can hear. it's a phenomenon called i-dosing and this is what it sounds like. two, slightly different tones or binorral beats played into each ear. the frequency of the sound meant to alter brain waves and mimic the effects of real drugs. sonic trucks are downloadable, legal and especially popular among teenagers. >> talking about t. >> reporter: this teen, we will call him zack is in treatment for his dependence on actual drug bus he also admits to doing a lot of digital drugs and he says, they work. >> and you pretty much fall into

like a trans, like asleep to music or static, whatever you want to call it and when the music stops playing, you wake up and you're high off whatever drug you pick. >> reporter: websites like i-ers do.com offer a menu of sonic drugs available less than $4 a pop, hits like heroin promise an experience that is just like the real thing. i-doser's founder tells us he doesn't advocate the use of actual drugs. in fact, he says sonic drugs are a safe alternative. but therapist jennifer tam worries what i-dosing can lead to >> something that teens might want to try in order to use it as an escape. so it would be something that could spark a teen's interest in using real drugs later down the line. >> reporter: while many people doubt the effects of sonic drugs are, saying they are nothing more than a placebo, some doctors say the methodology behind i-dosing is valid. neurosigh come ist mark steinberg says there is nothing

after aer noon to start at san pablo avenue. santa sheriff deputies are searching for a man who robbed a liquor store that happened around 8:30 last night at cask and flask liquor store in unincorporated santa clara county can. sheriff deputies say the man was warmed a handgun that suspect allegedly fired a shot during that robbery but none was hurt. anyone with information is asked to call the santa clara sho sheriff's department. keeping her legacy alive, the family of murdered nursing student michelle lei will continue its search campaign to help other bay area families. mission michelle will launch a search and rescue team to help families create and conduct effective missing person searches. her family say these hope to help other people manage the nightmare that they went through and continue to go through.

a reward started at $1,000 from the peninsula humane society it is now at $1,000 the reason? they are looking for the person who tied a dumbbell around a cat's neck two weeks ago, then tossed it into redwood shores lagoon. vets say the animal was alive at the time he was placed in the water to drown. anyone with information to about how manies that cat or who committed the crime is asked to call the peninsula humane society. this morning, pg&e will retest a pipeline that rupture aid long a busy freeway on the peninsula. this was the result of a failure and it was a cascading blast of water which then caused a mudslide. the mess shutdown part of interstate 280 quite a winltd the incident marked the third time a pipe failed during water pressure states which state regulators ordered following last year's deadly san bruno explosion. a few thousand oracle employees will be getting back

old today. it opened 75 years ago to traffic what a thrill this that must have been now. i think we probably take it for granted, don't we? sadly, a number of servicemen and women who served our country have ended up in the unemployment line and the jobless rate among vets is significantly high thaerpt national average. we are being shown now what is being done to turn that around. [ bagpipes ] >> reporter: among those braving the rain for san jose's veterans day parade was 27-year-old just returning from tours in iraq, the father of two has spent the last two years looking for a job. >> it takes careful budgeting and stuff. i do what i got to do for my children. >> reporter: the unemployment rate is 12%, higher than the national average for 9%.

zuniga worked a few jobs on construction sites since returning from the battlefield, diagnosed with postdram traumatic stress disorder, making a job search difficult. >> even if you have a degree, is it is hard to find a job. more needs to be done. >> reporter: congresswoman zoe lofgren of san jose expects the house of representatives to vote on a bill next week, providing tax breaks to employers who hire vets who have been out of work for at least six months. >> a good first step, a lot of things veterans need when they come home, everything from education to health care to jobs and we need to make sure that we are there for them. they were there for us. >> reporter: the proposal under consideration would provide a $5,600 tax incentive for employers who hire a veteran without a job for at least six months. the house is expected to approve the bill some time next week. in san jose, monte francis, nbc bay area news. to a different kind of veteran, more and more americans who fought in the vietnam war
