breaking news this morning. it is the final straw for the city. >> protesters right now bracing for a possible police raid this morning. police issuing a cease and desist order for the occupy oakland camp. so far we can report no movement from officers. >> we have team coverage on the ground this morning. christie smith scene bob redell are live in oakland. but let's first check in with christi. last the latest there? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. tension is really building here this morning in downtown oakland. within the last 20 minutes or so we saw police show up here and, if you can see that car down

there, that's the fremont police department. some officers in riot gear standing there. they are still a block away at 14th and franklin street. if we can pan the camera around, you can see what's going on here in the intersection at 14th and broadway. demonstrators have been here 2:15 this morning. so far they're walking around talking about what their plan would be. they tell us they hope to remain nonviolent. we really haven't seen riot police move in on them on foot. they're saying at this point they want to remain peaceful but we're hearing people yelling and walking around. just a sengs of confusion.

the city served three eviction notices on the encampment. we're seeing people in raincoats. some have swim goggles on. some have shields up in case police moved in. i spoke with one demonstrator this morning about how she's feeling about all this. >> i'm nervous. i went back home and talked the to my daughter. she's 9 1/2. she's scared. mommy, don't get arrested again. i feel strongly that i'm in more danger of staying away than i am being here. i just believe in this movement. >> and back here live it looks like the demonstrators are heading west down 14th street towards clay. there's a federal building over there. a lot of demonstrators have on ear protection or are carrying

ear protection. some asked if i had ear plug ls. they're hearing oakland police might use a loud screeching sound as a tool to get the crowds to disperse. we haven't seen any of that. the crowd is moving west away from u.s. that's the scene here. >> good morning to you, christi. we're a block away for you. we're seeing the police presence. we're seeing not from oakland pd and other agencies as well. the officers have the armored truck and the wristband they use for handcuffs. they're from hayward. if you come over here this is an entrance to the plaza where the tents have been set up. you have police officers with riot gear on. they have batons. it looks like perhaps that's a bean bag shotgun.

as far as them going in and moving people out. that's not happened. right now it appears they're trying to establish a perimeter. it looks like a sanitation truck in the middle of the road. they're trying to stop traffic from coming in and out of this area. once you're in this area, it is certainly an area where you have free range. we know at the arena a lot of officers we saw this morning were con gre grating. we haven't seen the mass influx yet. certainly not what we saw a few weeks ago. but right now police are here. they're setting up perimeter. what's going to happen after that, certainly not clear. there are a lot of people out here. you were mentioning this, christie. you can say there's tension or a lot of anticipation as far as how this is going to go down. in the meantime, back to laura

activity. back to you. the iraq war veteran seriously hurt during last week's raid on the occupy oakland encampment is out of the hospital this morning. there was an update on his google plus profile this weekend that says, quote, i'm feeling a lot better with a long road if front of me. you'll hear more from me in the near future. he had to be pulled to safety in the middle of the class after he was hit in the head with some sort of projectile. a chp officer is in the hospital. a gunman is dead after a shooting on a highway near sacramento. the shooting happened during a traffic stop in elk grove. the chp officer was approaching the suspect's car when the driver shot at the officer several times. the officer was hit, but he did return fire, killing the suspect. the wounded officer is now in a

sacramento hospital. he is expected to be okay. transportation officials are investigating a muni bus crash that killed a man in san francisco. the accident happened at the intersection of 5th and mission street around noon yesterday. the man was wearing a security guard uniform. he appeared to be on his way to work when the bus hit him. firefightered used wooden planks to free his legs, but he died from injuries at the hospital. the bus driver is placed on leave while the official investigation begins. the power of the eastern bands in 2006 and 2007. the paper says it discovered he falsified the tests and did not check to see the testing gauge

welcome back, everybody. that is a live look over frank ogala plaza. protesters are placing for a possible police raid right now. we're following all the events and happenings out. there christie smith is reporting out there as is bob redell. we'll keep you posted throughout the entire morning as things progress. the child sex abuse scandal surrounding penn state university program heads to a courtroom this week. the former vice president and former athletic drek thor will be in court facing charges they lied to cover up allegations of child sex abuse by former assistant football coach, jerry sandusky.

sandusky is currently facing 21 counts of abuse against eight young boys during a 15-year period. he has denied all the charges. a young man who claims he was a victim is at the school at penn state. hear from his attorney coming up on "the "today show."" the u.s. supreme court could decide if it will hear a case challenging the health care law. only three appellate judges who reviewed the law decided it is unconstitutional to require all americans to have health insurance. they announced they will hear the case from florida. the largest and broadest challenge to the law. the republican presidential field is shifting now. rick perry has lost half his support after last week's debate blunder. 52% now think he should drop out. the pull puts mitt romney, herman cain and newt gingrich at

welcome back, everyone. this is a live look at the occupy oakland movement. a lot of people crowding out on the street. the calm before the storm. the protesters bracing for an anticipated police raid. there's been an e-mail sent out. we'll keep you updated. we have two reporters live on the scene. bob redell and christie smith. san francisco's muni is meeting today to discuss proposals to raise fares and drive up costs. their trying to close a two-year budget deficit of $80 million. parking tickets could cost a few

extra dollars. now in addition, the agency considering right now adding another 500 to 1,000 new parking meters around the city. the san francisco 49ers is one major step closer to building their brand new stadium in santa clara. city leaders expected to approve $10 million on tuesday. that will support after five-month project. critics still doubting the 49ers in santa clara will find the remaining funds necessary to build this stadium. they say if the stadium never gets built the city will have wasted the money. the entire cost is estimated at $1 billion. the 49ers could make their playoff dreams come true. they host ed eli manning and th

new york giants. smith blocks the final pass of the game to secure 27-20 win. the 49ers are now 8-1 for the season. a disappointing weekend for stanford football. the fourth ranked cardinals dropped to ninth in the polls. stanford sustained the first loss of the season against oregon saturday. it was billed as the biggest game in the university's history. they're now fourth in the bcs stanley. occupy oakland movement, we're going to stay on top of that. possible bart closings. >> because of the activity there at 14th and broadway we have one station directly affected. we have the 12th street city center station that is closed by bart. what that means is trains will go through the station. you cannot enter or exit at any

of the station entrances there. and you can use the 19th street station nearby. bart is traveling through the area, just not stopping at that station. ac transit on the surface, obviously affected as well. go to actransit.org. they have pages of possible impact there. we are following westbound 24. a tree is down across the slow lane. sound like there will be activity at the scene. light traffic there as well as southbound 680. approaching highway 4. they're removing metal debris. back to you. i guess you can say this is not your average foot race. san francisco hosting a one of a kind obstacle course this weekend. >> men's health and magazine designed the race known as the urban athalon. more than 3,000 people took to the nine-mice race this morning. courses included a taxicab and bus hurdle. and the at&t park stair climb. pretty good.

similar race has been going on for five years. we're switching gears drastically here now. taking you live to oakland where it looks like they couldn't to set up. police are now arriving very close to the scene of frank ogala plaza. they are aiding the police expected to go in and clear out the protester this is morning. >> the white vans have just pulled into the area loaded with police officers. they are structuring some form of a game plan to go ahead and start to move towards the frank ogala plaza to disperse and peacefully remove the protesters. the protesters are sending out e-mails. they've been bracing for this since late saturday, early sunday morning. most of the teams of police throughout the bay area where are congregating at the arena earlier. and now we see them arriving very close to the scene.
