6:03 am
stop light. there have been five within the past year here, but the firm's report says two of those don't count because they were caused by a right-of-way violation on behalf of the driver. and the traffic engineers say a stop sign will not prevent that from happening. the firm recommends the following. number one, post school crosswalk signs at bay and gloria. two, paint the rode with slow school crossing markings and prohibit street parking on the west side of bay row. sioreli torres was on her way to school when she was hit by a local school teacher who said she was blinded by the sun and didn't see the little girl. the study did find about 8:00 a.m. every day there is significant windshield glare for southbound drivers. the driver in the accident was never charged in the little girl's death, though the district attorney is currently reviewing the case and could, in fact, file criminal charges against her.

we have now three out of four lanes open, but a big slowdown as you're approaching the scene. chopper is heading down there. i'm not sure if they have a shot of the traffic or not. do we have a chopper shot? we don't have the chopper shot. obviously the slowing is of concern for folks there. we have northbound 85 at camden near 67. a new accident reporting there clearing from the lane, minor slowing at the scene right now, northbound 101 and southbound 101, slowing indicating a higher volume traveling through the south bay. i'll look over towards the east bay. an easy drive at the dublin interchange. still have slowing out of the altamont pass. mike, thank you very much. yes, the holiday is upon us. before you let the stress of creating that perfect thanksgiving dinner get to you, do remember the thousands of families struggling just to get

monthly charge there after. some residents say the smart meter caused them to pay more on their bills anyway. >> i thought it was to be more accurate, that at least they would drop a little bit knowing they would be more accurate, but it's not accurate. it's gone up and it's increase $. >> pg&e release add statement that says while the customer who choose to opt out will lose the benefits of smart meter technology, we recognize some of our customers will have a preference on available alternatives and we'll work with them once a final decision is reached. shares in los gatos-based netflix falling to the lowest level in two years. scott mcgrew joining us now. scott, clearly things getting tougher and tougher for netflix. netflix ceo reid hastings under a lot of pressure from disbelieving investors who watched the stock crater. the stock fell again tuesday, a day after the company raced
6:26 am
millions by selling stock to a private firm. it's rare for this to happen and ironically it comes right after netflix tried buying back its own stock, but at a much higher price. here is the tale of the tape: netflix spent $2 million earlier this year buying back its own shares at $222 a share and then sold shares at $70 to $85 a share to raise money it needed. google must have looked itself up on google and figured out it's a search engine. it's cutting all kinds of programs that aren't core to its strengths including programs to invent clean energy. the company says it will still be active in buying and supporting clean energy, but it's not going to be the company that invents it. san francisco-based virgin america continues to have trouble with its online reservation system after it switched services. some people say they were over charged. others say they can't change

meteorologist christina loren to find out what kind of weather we're having into the holidays. looks like we'll have wet weather. i'm tracking that storm for you. it looks like the light rain showers start to arrive in places like novato and napa. 2:00 p.m. the steady rain moves in at about 5:00 p.m. for the greater bay area, pretty wet conditions overnight tonight. doesn't look like we'll start to get wet in the city of san francisco until 10:00 p.m. we'll tell you which cities on the east coast already have flight delays. first mike has a report of a delay just getting to san francisco this morning. >> that's right. if you're heading to sfo, southbound 101, a new accident there blocks three lanes. this sounds like a very serious accident. someone traveling northbound flipped over the center divide onto the southbound side. three lanes are blocked as you're heading to sfo. looks like they're slowing heading um to 380. certainly allow yourself extra time if you're heading into the area or through the area.
6:32 am
i'll bring you more details in my next report. >> sounds like a rough within. thank you, mike. a brand new traffic study down for one dangerous peninsula intersection has details which the people there do not want to hear. "today in the bay's" marla tellez live in east palo alto with a look at some of the new details. good morning, marla. >> reporter: good morning. here is the dangerous intersection right behind me. this is bay and glor gentlemaia. in the past year there have been a handful of accidents including the death of a 6-year-old girl who was in the crosswalk when she was hit and killed in september. residents say it's because there's not a stop sign here and they may not get one now because of a new study. sioreli torres was on her way to school when she was struck and killed at bay and gloria. after that tragedy, the city hired a consulting group out of san francisco to review the intersection. state guidelines require five collisions at an intersection in order to install something like a stop sign or a stop light.
6:33 am
there have been five within the past year here, but the firm's report says two of those don't count because they were caused by a right-of-way violation on behalf of the driver. and those are not correctable by a stop sign. i spoke to a guy who lives in this neighborhood and he can't believe what he's hearing. >> the two they're not counting -- they were probably caused by the fact that people were driving, trying to make the turn to go to work or something. >> reporter: here are the firm's recommendations. number one is to post school crosswalk signs at the intersection. two, paint the pavement of bay rode with "slow school crossing" markings. three, for bid street parking on the west side of bay road in order to open the view between drivers and pedestrians. the east palo alto city council
6:34 am
is going to be discussing these findings at its next meeting next tuesday. reporting live from east palo alto this morning. i'm marla tellez. jon? >> marla tellez, thank you very much. the university of california says it will pay medical bills for students pepper strayed by police. the school also decided to drop all charges against the ten people arrested during the friday protest on uc davis's campus. it was all caught on video. the school also plans to review the incident. two students went to the hospital after school police pepper sprayed them right into their faces as they sat down locking arms. 6:34 right now. san jose city leaders predicting people living in the bay area's biggest city will have to deal with longer response times in emergencies, shutdown libraries and community centers and deteriorating roads if the city can't tackle the pension problem. the city will vote in two weeks on whether to declare a fiscal
6:35 am
emergency. if it does, it will set a march special election to put pension reform on that ballot. city leaders said yesterday if cities' pension systems are not reformed, services will be cut to unacceptable levels. union officials say it's a way for the city to weasel out of promises to workers. no shocker, today expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the entire year. more than 5.3 million californians alone plan to travel this thanksgiving holiday. that's more than 4% higher than last year. "today in the bay's" christie smith is live at san francisco international airport where airport officials expect to see a lot of holiday traffic. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you. i know it's going to get much busier as the day moves on. right now is really not a bad time to travel. if i was flying, i'd go in the morning. i just heard from my colleague, traci grant, who is heading out this morning. she said she sailed right
6:36 am
through security this morning. out here the biggest crunch seems to be people trying to pull up to the curb and let people out. sfo is expecting about 1.2 million passengers this holiday week. that's a jump of about 4.5% over last year. i say the word week because the wednesday before thanksgiving used to be the busiest. now it's actually the friday before thanksgiving because more schools are letting kids out for the week. families are starting to travel earlier. also at sfo, terminal two is open. so they're telling us it really will appear like the crowds are more spread out. so far most flights are on time this morning. that could change. >> there are problems in boston i saw on the weather radar this morning. hopefully that's going to be blowing through later today and won't cause too much problem. i know the midwest is look at iffy weather. right now everything is on track. that's very changeable. that's why you need to keep in touch with your carrier.
