shared that with drivers crossing over the east bay. on 680 as well as interstate 80 both of those bridges you see are given fog advisories. i'll show you what i can of the bay bridge coming up. everything else, we just can't see past the camera lens, back to you. >> tough to see out. there. an american airlines flight headed to san francisco had to make an emergency landing in new york. it was headed from new york city to san francisco late last night. all 173 people on board had to get off, but they were safe and they spent the night in buffalo while the airline brought in a new plane. an iraq war veteran is fighting for his life this morning.

a driver hit 29-year-old albert early sunday morning. he suffered a traumatic brain injury. he got into a fight with a man at a fast food restaurant in the city's richmond district. in this surveillance video you can see the suspect wearing a white t-shirt standing at the counter on the left hand side of your gene. he walked two blocks down gary boulevard to a shell gas station where the suspect hit him with his suv. >> especially it makes it a little bit harder. we're all a phone call away from something like this. >> police released photos of the suspect describing hill between 18 and 20 years old. they also released a photo of his suv. possiblily a black mazda. a funeral procession will be

held for the marine killed in afghanistan. his family will receive his remains at travis air force base this morning. hundreds in the community have already attended vigils. the 19-year-old marine was serving his first tour of duty in afghanistan when he was killed on november 18th. his funeral will be held on wednesday. three years after some shot and killed in san francisco, a grieving mother wants to make sure her son is not forgotten. christi evans came up from san diego to bring this question to san francisco, who killed my son? brandon evans was shot and killed on november 29th in 2008 in golden gate park. he was at a park near the horseshoes pit when he left to get a cell phone from his car.

now three years later police say this case is still open. >> all i can do is beg the community to come forward with this information. police give us closure. my son didn't deserve what he got. >> the 20-year-old was only in san francisco for three weeks after moving from san diego when he was killed. well, the search is on this morning for a paddle boater who went missing. rodrigo ruiz did not return yesterday. the u.s. coast guard along with state and local agencies searched for him all day long. he's in his 30s, 5'5" and weighs about 130 pounds. he was last seen wearing a gray wet suit. we'll bring you the latest

developments. anybody with information in the case is asked to contact the coast guard or police. 4:35 now. this morning new plans are are in the work for protesters to reoccupy frank ogawa plaza f downtown oakland. they plan to retake it tomorrow with a 24-hour a day, seven-day a week vigil. they have not cleared it with the police department. protesters were forced out of the there earlier this month when police tore down that encampment. a did line for occupy l.a. protesters to leave their encampment has come and gone but so far no arrests. city officials said they would give occupiers plenty of warning to leave before they make

newt gingrich is on a role this morning after capturing a key newspaper endorsement. new hampshire union leader gave the former speaker itself support and snubbed mitt romney as a play it safe candidate. romney has been criticized by republican voters for not being conservative enough. do you want a bonn fid conservative like newt gingrich who led you to revolution in '94 or a more of aed the middle of the road candidate? >> the union leader is new hampshire's largest newspaper. other candidates are shrugging off gingrich's endorsement. only 36 days left before the aye caucus. the new hampshire primary is set for january 10th. good news on europe's fanss could send the markets higher today. for that and more news before the bell, let's turn to jackie

santa clara county will open three homeless shelters today to provide emergency shelters in the coming months. they'll provide 355 beds each night for the next four months. beds are allocated on a first come, first serve basis. more than a third of those who used the bed during the winter are chronically homeless. they've been homeless for more than a year. a 2011 survey found more than 7,000 homeless people are in santa clara county. it is 4:55 right now. very bad visibility. let's take a look at my maps. the speed sensors picked out are northbound. no major incidents or slowing. chp called out 101 both directions at mountain view p n
