>> foggy for the first part of the day. and then you get sunshine also looking at major changes as we head through tomorrow and wednesday. this morning we need to concentrate on what's happening right now. deep pockets of fog. you can only see for 50 to 100 feet in some spots. you just need to take it easy out there. >> we'll have to find the school. anywhere the map shows it's down to 100 feet approaching the maize and bay bridge toll plaza. we'll try to show you that coming up. very foggy. >> take it easy this morning. it's 6:01 now. our top story, a baby fighting for his life after getting shot in the head during the filming of a music video in oakland. he's one of eight people shot in a rain of gunfire. we're the only station that

talked to the baby ease cousin. damn yen trujillo is live at oakland. how is the condition of the baby? >> reporter: he's putting up a fight here. still critical. his husband tells me he has swelling of the brain. that child did take a bullet to the head. very sad news here at children's hospital. police are still looking for the suspected shooters who opened fire in the 700 block of willow street. the child's father is a rapper and was shooting a music video there. tu cousin i spoke to is also a rapper. his row motion van was the scene of the video when the shots rang out. he was in the richmond recording studio at the time and does not believe he was a target, saying he has no enemies. but he is glad his promotions band was there.

i'm glad my van was there to help the people out to get them to the hospital. you never know how long it would take for the balance to save them. it was a good thick people did think to get the people directly to the hospital. and now no one lost their life yet. he says he found out on twitter that people were reporting him as a victim or perhaps swub involved in the shooting. he says he was nowhere near and now worries about the prognosis of his little cousin. and that little cousin remains in critical condition here at children's hospital with a gunshot to the head. >> so sad. thank you very much. a man in the hospital after a shooting in south san jose overnight. police say it happened just before midnight on apple blossom drive. investigators say someone shot a man vefrl times.

and in san francisco three young boys were shot in line while waiting for a black friday sale. they are near an intersection when six teens approached them and asked to buy weed. police are still looking for the robbers. the cal trans director wants them to take another look at filing charges against technician. last week they filed dwayne wild accused of falsifying safety files. he also worked on the bay bridge. he wrote letters to a u.s. attorney. he says he thinks it warrants

criminal charges against wild. not your usual day at school for 100 uc berkeley students. they were evacuated from a classroom after a fire broke out in the trash can of an upstairs men room. it happened around 8:30. firefighters quickly managed to put it out. no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. it is 6:05 right now. the thanksgiving holiday is the worst time to be on a diet. this as a new survey shows more americans are thinking bigger when it comes to their ideal weight. marianne favro is live with a closer look at this report. good morning, marianne. >> reporter: good morning, jon. i'm sure you enjoyed your thanksgiving dinner, as did i. we are definitely in the middle of the holiday eating season. here's what a new survey found. it asked americans how much they weigh. the average man weighs 196 pounds and the average american woman weighs 160 pounds.

but this is what is so startling. both numbers are up 20 pounds compared to the self reported weights back in 1990. not only are we getting chubbier, but we're readjusting our vision of what our ideal weight is as well. when on average said their adeal weight should be 138 pounds. that's up from 129 in 1991 and men on average said their ideal weight should be 196. that's up from 180. but some folks here in the bay area are doing all they can to buck that trend. >> i think now with the trend everybody is working out, getting healthy, it's just a part of you want to stay healthy, eat better, go to the gym, work out every day if you can, or at least five days a week. but it's just part of your lifestyle. >> reporter: researchers say much of the weight gain that we experience as we age comes during the holiday season.

usually one to four pounds between thanksgiving day and new year's day. reporting live in san jose, marianne favro, "today in the bay." >> perfect news. the buffets will be open from now to the end of the year. >> we're going with the trend. south san francisco homeowners are trying to dry out after gallons upon gallons of water rushed to their homes. a newly installed pipe failed on friday, causing at least a million gallons of water to gush out. ra ranger pipelines replaced the pipes in october. it's working on another intersection to san francisco. it could affect work on the entire line. it says the investigation will not affect the reimbursement process. homes, cars and city infrastructure were all

destroyed. pg&e says emergency workers are on alert and ready to deal with wind gusts, now reported up to 70 miles an hour in some areas. heavy wind, of course, often causing trees and other plants to fall onto overhead pow power lines. pg&e set up a phone line for customers going through power outages. the number is 1-800-pge-5002. >> christina warning us about the wind gusts headed our way as well. >> severe weather tomorrow to thursday. we have severe weather we're watching right now. really dense fog out there. national weather service has issued a dense fog advisory for the entire bay area and the central valley all the way through 9:00 a.m. possibly until 11:00 a.m. san francisco reporting flight delays because of low ceilings out there this morning. san jose, everything looks to be on time. 50 in san francisco. you're at 49 in oakland where

you have 50 to 100 feet of visibility in spots. so make sure to take it very cautiously this. especially if you're taking your kids to school or just to get to work will likely be problematic. as you can see at 10:00 a.m. your future cast shows you we're going to clear out earlier than we did yesterday. the south bay was socked in all day long. san francisco down to santa rosa did get sunshine for the second half of the day. the highs range in the 60s. you'll hit 63 in fremont. 62 in dublin. and near the coast this morning temperatures in the upper 50s. 59 in richmond. my next report i'll have the seven day outlook, and we'll detail the wind storm that blows in tomorrow. first let's check your drive with mike inouye. >> i have my eyes on this accident for castro valley. causing slowing in the commute as you approach the boulevard. it's blocking your slow lane. further north we have the other accident, 580 at foothill. that has cleared from the

good morning to you. good morning fog. we're really seeing it across the bay area today. take it easy out the door. we have new word on black friday violence. a south bay shopper armed with a hammer. police say a woman smacked him with a hammer. it's reported the man did not know the woman and did not provoke her. he's rushed to the hospital. he is expected to survive. the woman was arrested. this afternoon police will reveal new information about the black friday shooting in a wal-mart parking lot. so far police being very tight lipped, saying only that officers will share critical

information about this case. a mane and his family were walking to the car when several suspects approached them demanding their newly purchased merchandise. when the man refused, one of the suspects shot him. >> we need a what's wrong with people segment. los angeles police say a pepper spray incident on black friday may have been an act of self defense. the woman showed up at the police department on saturday but did not answer questions and was not arrested. detectives have interviewed 14 witnesses and talked to a dozen shoppers about the incident. in the video you could hear people saying i'm being trampled. it will depend if he was self defense or inappropriate shopping tactics to keep people away from the products she

really gusty winds starting tomorrow around sunrise. so we'll have a much clearer picture of the golden gate bridge. it's been socked in with fog. you've seen this live shot many times over. all of the other cameras are so socked in with fog. we just can't make anything out. about 50 feet to 100 feet in spots in oakland so you really want to take it easy out there. this fog is expected to clear just a little bit earlier than yesterday. not quite as thick or widespread as 24 hours ago. by 10:00 a.m. starting to get a little bit of clearing. as that happens, we'll ve very, very strong offshore breezes through tomorrow and especially tomorrow night into the first part of your thursday. the quiet start will continue. we'll see temperatures in the

60s. still just a mix of sun and clouds. not full on sunshine this afternoon. tomorrow we start out mostly clear. high pressure is pushing all the fog, the marine layer way out to sea. however it will also be working against an area of low pressure high pressure. so very gusty wind will continue from tomorrow morning through late thursday clear at the the coastline but very gusty to the north bay hills and east bay hills. we could see gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour. so we are getting awfully close. that means if you have any loose objects in your backyard, you want to tie it down. we're also very concerned about the potential of downed power lines, if your waking up with us, you know what i'm talking about. throughout the weekend it's going to stay nice and sunny. now let's check your drive with

mike inouye. >> it's treating folks to slower speeds no. major disruption for the south bay. that's going to stick around for 30 minutes. mostly commute related. however, our friend drove up 87 past the airport. said he couldn't even see the parking lot from highway 87. so he's checking x as well as christina checking on flight delays as well. a drive out of the altamont pass through livermore really logging on down. but let it be known things are very slow, clear through the interchange. we'll look at westbound 580 towards castro valley boulevard. the earlier accident yet to be cleared from the slow lane.

also new this morning, san jose done have any suspects in a shoolting that sent one man to the hospital. it happened just before midnight on apple blossom drive. someone shot a man several times, but that man is expected to survive. the case against former police officer johannes mehserle and four bart police officers head to court this morning. expected to take the stand at 9:00 this morning, the second time in the trial. kenneth carrethers claims mehserle and the other officers used excessive force when arresting him at the coliseum oakland airport bart station back in november of 2008. he testified last week that ka rhett ers was unruly and he was afraid he would attack another officer. >> if it seems you can't get rid of the extra pounds, you're not

alone. a new survey shows more americans are thinking bigger when it comes to their ideal weight. marianne favro is live with more on that for us. more and more americans have found a way to reach their ideal weight. move your target up. a new survey asked them to name their adeal weight. and women picked a number 22 pounds over their ideal weight. actually a couple of years ago i did see the doctor last year. i was ten pounds heavier. >> this is from a new gallup poll. researchers saying more and more americans are in denial about what is a healthy weight.

eight quarters of a mile in fairfield. a repeat performance from yesterday. it's not quite as widespread or as thick as it was yesterday. so it's going to clear about an hour or maybe two hours earlier than it did yesterday. tuesday at 10:00 a.m. we get a nice amount of clearing. then at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, no fog to report. what a difference a day will make as high pressure sits offshore and pushing the marine layer out to sea. the high pressure ridge will drive very gusty winds through the bay area, especially the higher elevation. if you're waking up with us and any elevation above 1,000 feet, it's going to be gusty through your neck of the woods tomorrow, especially tomorrow night into the first part of thursday. we have a high wind watch in place and a wind advisory. a clear start at the coastline tomorrow. this is what you can expect. we are expecting downed power lines with possible excess gusts. gusts in excess of 70 miles an

the back and forth over what is best for breast health continues. new remss directly contradicts recommendations for the federal government. tracie potts is live with what is going on. it seems like every few weeks we get something new. it can be very confusing for people. >> a new group today. the society of north america is saying women should really start the mammograms annually every year in their 40s. whether or not they have a family history. which is it's okay to put them off until they're 50. the latest recommendation is based on a study out of rochester, new york. some of whom had breast cancer, some of who did not.

dense fog advisory posted for the national weather service. that fog is thick, but i wanted to point we have blue skies. and it's going to take some time, but everywhere across the bay we see a little bit of it. let's show you what this looks like at the surface. you can only see for a quarter mile or better here. some spots across the bay, you were talking feet. we are measuring the visibility in feet. let's talk about that right now. a quarter mile in oakland. less than a quarter mile in san mateo. registering with five miles or less in tri valley. 45 in san jose. and 41 degrees up in santa rosa. as we head throughout the afternoon the temperatures end up in the upper 50s and low 60s.

light fog and a legitimate bit of coastal fog and 59 in places like san jose. not much nothing, if any, as we meet back here tomorrow morning. high pressure is also working against an area of low pressure. and create a very tight pressure gradient. north bay mountains and east bay hills. the winds will really start to pick up right after sunrise. the gustiest time period will be over the course of wednesday night into the first part of your thursday. if you're waking up with us in elevations above 1,000 feet tie down any loose objects in your backyard. we could see potentially downed power lines. friday onshore flow redeveloping.

jose with a look at the survey crunch in the number while people crunch sit-ups behind you. >> yeah, crumpling the numbers is a lot easier. i don't know about you, but i'm thinking about the thanksgiving meal. but here's what the survey found. it asked americans how much they way and found the average man weighs 196 pounds and the average american woman weighs 160 pounds. but this is what is so startling. both numbers are up 20 pounds compared to the self reported weight in 1990. so not only are we getting chubbier in general, but we're readjusting the vision of what our ideal weight is as well. women on average found their ideal weight should be 138 pounds. up from 129 in 1991. men said their ideal weight is 196, up from 180. researchers say much of the

weigh gain that comes with age appears to be the weight gain now and thanksgiving day. one to four pounds. and then we off the new year with a higher baseline they also say many americans are in denial if they're overweight. only 35% of men consider themselves overweight. there's another bay area city talking about smoking outdoors. mountain view will hold a meeting to talk about a proposed la law to reduce outdoor exposure to second-hand smoke. in parks and place a 25-foot bumper zone where smoking is otherwise banned. today's meeting is in city hall at 2:00. a mysterious hollywood tragedy still sparking interest
