shower activity all the the way from san jose. you'll encounter slick conditions. give yourself plenty of time. we're not going to deal with the showers all day long. at noon, getting a nice break. mostly cloudy conditions. we'll take you through the full forecast, show you the seven-day coming up. we have the bay bridge approach the maze there. the accident has indeed cleared from the roadway. slow it down. 5:01 now. occupy protesters are planning several demonstrations in oakland. and one of the targets is a major lifeline to the bay area. bob redell is live in oakland with a look at the protests and which groups will be joining their cause. bob, good morning. >> good morning, marla. the overall goal today is to shut down the port of oakland.

right now occupy protesters are meeting here at west oakland bart where we are right now. you can see there's a small crowd of them starting to show up. they've been trickle in for the past 15 to 20 minutes. there's maybe 50 to 60 of them. and what they'll do within a half hour is march down seventh street to the port of oakland to try to shut it down again. just like they did on november 2nd. occupy groups in the western united states are going to be trying to shut down ports up and down the coast and in hawaii in what they are calling wall street on the water front. they hope to hurt the 1%, the big corporations that make money imports and exporting these goods through the ports. protesters did seem to have the support of workers at the port. this time around not so much or not as much. the leadership of the warehouse union, which represents many port workers, is not supporting today's shutdown. what if you're costing union

members money today by shutting down the port? >> well, either they'll be in informed that, you know, that it's unsafe for them to cross the picket line, they don't have to. in which case they'll be paid or we're looking through. i don't want to cost anybody money. >> those are real people that are making real differences in their families lives and in the community every day. we're trying to get that message out there. it seems to be resonating with people. people want to see productive solutions. >> reporter: that was a spokesperson with the port of oakland who we spoke with on friday. protesters said they they have the support even though the leadership is not on board. the tem sters have thrown in their support for today's action. for planning purposes if you have business in the west oakland area. they may have a rally at 3:00

today. the police chief and city administrator are going to be at the emergency operation center, monitoring what's going on here and update us through a news conference in about an hour. reporting live at west oakland. bob redell, marla, jon. >> bob, thank you very much. also this morning the sidewalk in front of san francisco's reserve building is all cleared off after a police sweep over the weekend. 55 occupy protesters were arrested early sunday morning. demonstrators were warned on an hourly basis during the 24 hours leading up to the crackdown. police say no one was injured during the raid. this morning warning fliers cover a san francisco neighborhood after a woman was brutally raped. neighbors say they are taking extra precautions since the rape was reported thursday morning. according to a neighborhood e-mail sent hours after the attack, a man grabbed a woman

from behind, broke her knock, raped and robbed her on fair oak street. she's now being freeted at a nearby hospital. neighbors say it happened so fast no one heard he scream. >> you certainly don't feel safe. >> police say the suspect could be this man, right here, seen in this surveillance video. police say this man is wanted in connection with another attack that happened in november. crews still trying to soak. a campus police officer discovered the leak over the weekend when he smelled some gas in strawberry creek on campus. and we're told the fuel then overflowed while it was being transferred to another storage tank. federal and state workers teaming up. >> it is sentencing day for a bay area man arrested in the shooting death of a local college basketball player.

29-year-old ricky anderson is charged with attempted robbery and personal use of a firearm in connection with a shooting last june. police say former university of san francisco basketball player taylor jr. was in a group trying to rob a drug dealer when she was shot in killed in the parking lot of an ikea store. this morning we have new insight into what pg&e knew. they declared two high pressure gas lines safe despite the gaps. experts say the utility couldn't have been absolutely sure that the lines were, in fact, safe. now one of the pipes runs through discovery bay and brentwood. the other runs through the valley. in some places the pressure is allegedly five times the amount running through the san bruno pipeline when it ploeded last

welcome back, everybody. you're looking life at the port of los angeles. this is all part of a push by occupiers to occupy ports up and down the entire west coast. it's 5:12 right now. dry for most of the day yesterday, and last night the south bay at least got hit with rain, and it continues this morning. christina loren is here to talk about that. >> the greater bay area is getting a little bit of rain this morning. if you are commuting towards the peninsula or waking up with us along the peninsula give yourself a lot of time. as you can see from the satellite imagery. we're getting rainfall not just in the bay area but through southern california. a lot of people traveling this

time of year. just really take it easy. the grapevine getting hit hard right now. as you can see here. we have a core of low pressure just off shore. this is going to move inland. and that will bring the rain showers to a close. it's going to be slick. a cool and cloudy day. showers coming up this will be the case for the next couple of hour ls. you can see bone dry noon through the evening hours. that ininclude through tuesday. temperatures on the cool side in livermore and gilroy. still you're about 20 degrees, to degrees warmer than we were at this time last monday. so it's significant improvement when it comes to the warmth in santa rosa. 42 degrees, i bet it feels much better out there. as we head throughout the day today, your temperatures will reach the low 50s by noon. pretty much uniform conditions from the inland cities to the

coast with a fair amount of cloud cover all day long. 58 in fremont. 58 in san jose today. d 57 in gilroy. we stay in the 50s as we head through the next couple of days, only hitting the 60 degree mark on wednesday with rain moving in late wednesday to thursday. and then we get a nice dry break if you want to do christmas shopping this weekend, you should be able to do so without any rain coming down on you. let's find out what the rain is doing to your drive with mike. >> it's slick roads. so we always give the warning, especially as you mention. that oil has built up. looking over here, 280 an accident. at john daly boulevard off ramp from southbound 280. only the off ramp is affects, but 280 itself down through daly city, you're still at the limit through the area because of the light volume of traffic in this portion of the bay area. pretty light and pretty much all over the place. the south bay is also looking nice. capital up to the airport. a little blip for 101 and northbound 880 as you're

ready for one of the busiest shopping days of the year. let's turn to jackie deangeles live at cnbc headquarters. jackie, good morning. >> good morning to you. the futures are lower as wall street comes off a second week of gains. the wall street closed near highs on friday boosted by a strong consumer sentiment report and relief over the late plan to try to resolve the nation's debt crisis. asia was higher overnight. europe was in the red today. this could be the last real busy week for data in the u.s. before the holiday season. we have the federal reserve meeting tomorrow. we're going to get reports on retail sales, unemployment and inflation as well. watch for those this week. the dow rose 186 on friday to close at 12184. the nasdaq gains 50 points to close at 2646. fed-ex will be running at full speed on what's projected to be the businessest shipping day of the year, possibly in the company's 40-year history. they plan to ship 17 million

packages across the global network. double it will average daily volume. in order to get your gifts to their destination by christmas, you need to make sure that you ship them no later than friday. so keep that in mind, and amazon, also, may be stoking the fire. the online retailer will upgrade the new kindle fire tablet to address customer complaints. those include the lack of external volume control and slow internet connection. a spokesman says in two weeks there will be an online update with improvements in the fire's performance and navigation. as far as kindle 2.0, amazon is not talking just yet. but there may be a new version out this spring. i wonder if you should just hold off on that then. >> could be. could be. you have to watch with the technology because they're always releasing new versions. you don't want the old versions. you just don't want that. >> always trying to keep up.

the rally coincides with a court date for 39 protesters arrested during the occupy cal demonstration at the uc berkeley campus. there was a big time scare at san jose's christmas in the park when a ferris wheel accident sent people swinging in their seats. spectators say they heard a loud bang and a pop and then saw a carriage wheel swaying. they all went tumbling down onto a carriage below. the impact broke a piece of fiberglass and sent the carriage rocking side to side. fortunately nobody was hurt in the incident. new safety measures are being taken to make sure this does not happen again. >> the search is on for a third suspect in a black friday shooting as his alleged

accomplice faces charges in court. meantime, he will face attempted murder charges in court today. watson surrenders to police after a standoff in oakland last week. a third suspect will be in court next month. the shooting victim is recovering at home. >> today we'll find out how long the murder of a san francisco socialitle will remain behind bars. last week he plead guilty to killing her at a russian hills home back in 2010. investigators say he posed as a utility worker to gain entry into the house. at the time of the murder, he was on parole for attempting to murder his aunt back in 1999.

the investigation continues into the killing of a convicted murder. guards found anthony seriously injured. he died a few hours later. prison officials believe the 38-year-old was killed by his cell mate. steadham was serving a life sentence for a first-degree murder. san mateo will pay $55,000 to the family of a special education student enrolled at yorj hall school. he was suffering from behavioral disables and at that time he was disrupting the class. the officer pepper sprayed him over concerns for the child's safety. the lawsuit claiming the boy's civil rights were violated and he suffered post-traumatic stress. >> well, christmas is only two weeks away. a local charity that helps feed 250,000 people a month is asking for your help.

a new push to keep teens safe behind the wheel. a new report shows towns of teen lives could be saved each year. tracie potts is live in washington, d.c. this morning with a look at the impact the new rules would have here in california. tracie, good morning. >> hi, marla. good morning, earn. the national safety council and all state did a report. they found if every state had the strongest graduating driving laws we could save 2,000 lives a year in this country. every state does have graduated laws, but they're all different. some are not as effective as others according to the report. take a look at the laws for california. you can get a learner's permit at 15 1/2.

this group says you should be 16. you have to drive supervised for 15 hours. ten at night. then at 16 you can get the intermediate stage license. they think that should be a little older. they want that to start earlier at 10:00. for the first 12 months you can't carry any passengers. california is one of the states where some parts of the licensing law seem to comply with the standard. they're pushing for. some parts don't. they want to see it standardized across all foo of our states. >> parents will like it. teens may not be for it. this morning the family of a suspected cop killer offering condolences so the offer's family. the family offering prayers to the officer's family in the unsigned statement to the
