4:30. i'm marla tellez. jon kelley is off today. >> let's get to the forecast with christina loren. it is a cold start to the morning. >> it certainly is. yesterday warmer was 10 degrees warmer than now. we have 20s back on the map in napa and gillry. we'll drop off over the course of the next couple of hours. the key of the day is to dress in layers. first we want to check your drive. any drama, mike? >> no drama, christina. no full freeway closures overnight. here's 880 past the coliseum. you see the arrow is moving folks to the left. that's what is going on now passing north or south between fruitvale and the coliseum. back to you for now. >> you're so important.

thank you, mike. 4:31 now. usually when one customer goes without power, it's not a newsworthy event. but it changes when it's candle stick park. yes, the lights are on. the power went off twice last night. once before kick off. it shows the staid jum going dark. and now san francisco's mayor is promising a full investigation. mayor ed lee says i have directed fire chief joanne hayes white and sfpuc general manager ed to investigate the causes and identify immediate actions that must be taken to prevent incidents such as this from happening again. it's possible it won't happen again now that the 49ers are

planning a move to the south bay. 145 megawatt power plant sits less than a mile from the stadium site. >> moments before police were dealing with another incident. someone phoned in a warning about an explosionive dwois device, but nothing was found. it is an unfortunate situation but high pro events receive threats. we're very happy when such incidents end up without merit. today east palo alto city members are expected for guidelines. it should be installed in the intersection. they need to meet state and federal guidelines to do so.

they have not met the five recommendations. if east palo alto had its own rules they could bypass federal guidelines and install a stop sign now. the former officer suspected cocaine and guns. he would arrest several targeted men for dui. the private eye would hire women to entice the men to drink at a bar. then he would pull them over and arrest them. he pleaded not guilty to the four extortion charges. we'll find out the cause in a massive water main break in sfrarn as the ininvestigation wraps up. a 12-inch pipe spilled 1 million gallons of water.

nine homes and eight cars were damaged. the pipe was recently replaced as part of an upgrade to the system before the accident. the public utilities commission said it's now revising its design and construction standards. check i.d.s before letting any worker in your hoechl. that's a warning from the berkeley police department after a utility worker robbed a couple in berkeley. two older couples were robbed by men claiming to be with the water company. two men told a couple they were preparing cable tv wiring. berkeley police say call them. if an unannounced worker shows up. low-income families in san francisco living in affordable housing are getting help from the courts. they are dropping dozens for a program aimed at low-income

families. they set aside some apartment units when a building is upgraded to a condo. prices are kept below market after the conversion. more than 500 units are covered by the program, which began in the late '70s. ma rin county is posed to press on smoking in apartment complexes. it will affect owl multihousing units. a popular site for disabled swimmers at besh lee high school's old gym will remain closed. they have rejected an injunction to keep berkeley's warm pool facility open. one swimmer argued the americans with disabilities act obligates the city to proride the pool to the disabled. the pool closed to make way for

construction and a new gym and classroom. the plan to bring america's yacht race is getting choppy. this morning four environmental groups say they're filing appeals. the environmental impact report does not give enough information to move forward. that can't move forward on plans projects until the board of superviseer hears the appeal. this morning a hollywood actor is recovering from injuries after wiping out at a legendary surf spot. actor gerrard butler was pulled underwater by waves as high as 12 feet. he was rushed to the hospital have advertise lungs looked at, but he was treated and released yesterday. he was filming a scene for "of men and mavericks." he plays a santa cruz surfer in

drive. there's an easy drive. no problems down the east shore freeway. no major construction as far as road closures. that's good news for the freeways. back to you. >> now we want to get to shark park golf course. let me just get that up for you. >> what's happening is the san francisco mayor ed lee vetoed a plan to transfer management of shark park to the federal government. the park was owned by san francisco. and there was a lot of talk about what they were going to do with it. they're deciding now to transfer it there. we'll have more in a little bit. what about cyclists in san francisco? they're lucky today as a city

friends. here's janelle wang. >> nearly nine months after the brutal attack on opening day at dodgers stadium. he's unable to talk, barely able to walk, and one-third of his brain destroyed. he's at a rehab center at the san jose valley medical center. >> i'm nancy. how are you? >> fine. >> i've heard so much about you. >> how are you? >> i'm doing well. thank you. >> that's good. >> you're just as handsome as your sister said you are. doctors say brian's speech will improve. he will be disabled. his parents and sister look more more hopeful news every day. on this day he was able to write his name, something he couldn't do a month earlier. >> now we can walk into a room, and his therapist will be there and say, brian, who walked into the room? he turns and says my mom and dad. oh my god, that's awesome.

>> the paramedic and doting father was attacked after the game on march 31st. his friends that were there with him say they were jumped by three dodger fans. they gave their first interview to dr. nancy snyderman on nbc ice rock center with nancy snyderman. >> brian from behind got punched in the side of the head. he was punched with a hay maker. >> when you say a hay maker -- >> it was a running, huge, sweeping punch. >> so a sucker punch from behind? >> yeah. and the first thing to hit the ground was the back of his head. >> the suspects kicked him over and over. it was not surprising to many sports fans. some calling ate a thug culture. brian had sensed the hostile atmosphere before the assault. he sent this text. it's "f'ing" scary here.

it's really cold. temperatures across the board running much cooler than a couple hours ago. it's that clear sky. it makes for such a cold start. lit be cloudier tonight. not as frigid as we wake up tomorrow morning. 12 degrees cooler here. 14 degrees cooler in novato. i can tell you it was cold out there. 28 in napa right now. throughout the next few hours we'll drop off. once the sun comes out we'll warm up to the 50s. by noon looking comfortable. then we have the 60s. 63 today in gilroy. still staying nice and mild.

troops and riot police raided tahrir square. it's the second raid in as many days as they look to squash civil unrest. they are demanding the military transfer power to civilians after it took power in a february uprising. the ruling generals have come under criticism for using excess i force on unarmed protesters. and the government fights growing unrest. reports say 70 syrian army detectors were killed by troops when they tried to join the protests. the u.n. says more than 5,000 have died since the government crackdown began in march. >> it is 4:55 now. federal lawmaker saws the california air quality agency is deliberately misleading congress. they want the california air resources board to turn over more information about a deal

that doubled fuel efficiency standards by 2025. specifically the house wants to see documents between california, the white house, and major automakers that show how the deal was reached to double the fuel economy. it will cost the autoindustry $157 billion. one of the most well known newspapers in the north bay may get a new tineer.
