first widespread lake effect snow we've seen. it will taper down and the west lakes and continuing around the eastern shore here. expecting a lot of wind and cold air that has moved in all the way down to the south. otherwise it's pretty quiet with the exception of the pacific northwest with a few rain showers pushing into the seattle area. this is where the coldest air is but mild all the way up into the northern plains and here's that blast of cold, 28 for the high in chicago today, only 30 in new york city. the wind blowing as well. that's going to drop those wind chills, 39 for the high in atlanta. that's it. on wednesday, a if you snow showers lingering here. a second disturbance will move over the eastern lakes and keep the snow going across northern michigan there as well but much of the country will be quieting down by the middle of this week. that wedge of cold air slowly retreating to the north with temperatures warming into the low 50s around atlanta and we'll see 60s move back in from houston over to new orleans. on thursday almost looks like a

mistake. there's hardly anything here on the map. 41 in new york, still in the chill but not as bad. rain showers pushing into western washington and northwest oregon. the system keeps a few snow showers going into the intermountains west. we're watching rain move into eastern texas and that's about it. this system will bring more showers and continue to push to the northeast as we get through saturday so we expect that rain into the tennessee valley and then substantial moisture pumping in out of the gulf so we should see all this rain move into the mid-atlantic region bit second half of your weekend. wake up with al every weekend morning at 6:00 a.m. on the weather channel.
