express that delivers the moisture that we traditionally see that we've been waiting for. this morning something we're very accustomed to, the deep pockets of fog out there. all the way from san mateo through santa rosa. you'll encounter treacherous driving conditions for the next 15 to 20 minutes in this area. as we head throughout the morning hours, between 6:00 and 7:00 the fog will be at the worst, and that's when you really need to take it easy out there. we should be socked in all the way at that point. so let's talk about what's changing throughout the day today. your temperatures are starting out nice and mild. as we lose the cloud cover, i think you'll warm up by 10:00, maybe 11:00 a.m. down through san jose. wen we meet back for the 11:00 a.m. broadcast, i think we're still going to be socked in with fog in the city by the bay all the way to redwood. by noon we should get clearing. that will make for a comfortable afternoon in places like san francisco. 59 degrees. you have to wait for the sun to shine. 63 in los gatos. 62 in san jose.
5:38 am
so i did promise a chance of rain. that's in my seven-day outlook. we'll talk about that, whether or not your city is going to get any rain through wednesday and thursday there's a very slight chance but only for some cities. i'll let you know if that's yours coming up. first want to check your drive with mike. >> we'll take you to the roadways where highway 4, i want to show this again. we vice president seen we haven't seen it for a few weeks. the slowing has escaped the confines of the orange circle. we'll track that over the course of the morning. but another live look out there will show you the bay bridge toll plaza and a few cars waiting to get across the bridge there in the cash lanes. so already we're seeing a heavier volume aproching the bridge and at the toll plaza than the last few weeks as well. we expect tuesday to be the start of the commute returning. we're looking at the san mateo bridge which has a fog advisory. christina is talking about visibility in towards 50, maybe 100 feet.
5:39 am

5:44 am
candidate who is most conservative or the one who can beat obama. >> it's hard to believe considering the nice weather we've been enjoying out here. but brutal winter weather is hammering other parts of the country. this is what they're dealing with in michigan. a winter storm warning around grand rapids. forecasters say things will get better later in the day. the storm is part of a larger front bringing in much colder temperatures to the midwest and eastern parts of the country. mean tile, in central indiana, more than a dozen cars slammed right into each other on an interstate in indianapolis because of ice covered roads and near white-out conditions. that's not fun to drive in. anywhere from half an inch to half a foot of snow fell on major interstates throughout yesterday. ouch. >> got to be a horrible feeling. out of control and sliding. >> there's nothing you can do. >> we'll take the white stuff if we can get it.
5:45 am
>> at the very end of my seven day, there's a chance for that. and it's not phenomenal. but we have a very slight chance of seeing some more rain pass through the bay area. we had some yesterday. it's that additional moisture being forced to the surface by a ridge of high pressure. you are dropping like a rock in terms of visibility i long the peninsula up to the north bay. and we are looking really, really dense. even down through san mateo and redwood city. so we'll continue to see the fog develop throughout the next few hours. the good news is the high pressure is still in control to clear the sky later on today. we'll wait until probably 11:00 a.m. in the south bay. i'll take you to the future cast in one moment. comfortable considering we had low 20s. 50 degrees in san francisco. 44 degrees in santa cruz. so your visibilities are dropping, but this map is
5:46 am
generic. let me tell you now, you might walk out your front door, lit be clear. then you hit the highway and lose visibility. so we have dense patches out there. take it easy, even though san jose is reporting three miles of visibility. five miles in concord. so it all works out like this throughout the day today. you can see the storm track is well to the north. some of the clouds are pushing through. some of them are so deep over the central valley that light showers and drizzle. for us that could be the case as well. it's going to get worse before it gets better. boom, 7:00 a.m., fog. widespread across the bay area. then we'll round out the day, noon. looking pretty good. more clear inland.
5:47 am
still probably thick fog hugging the coastline. still we're going to hit the 60s. 63 in los gatos. hold your horses. take a look at where we're headed tomorrow. 70 degrees inland. a really comfortable afternoon on wednesday. we'll hold onto the upper 60s. unusually warm this time of year, thursday into friday. and then the showers with sierra snow on late monday. let's check the drive with mike. >> the commute is returning for many spots in the bay area because schools are returning as well. so we have no problems for the south bay. we have heavier problem. we expect to see slowing around 680 over the next 20 minutes. we'll look at sunol because that's a great shot. southbound 680 out of sunol and over the the grid into fremont.
5:48 am
but right past the gulf we could see the fog develop. right now it's a patch of clearing. but we'll have a pocket of fog here, as well as many other spots in the bay area. we'll look at the maps again. we're showing the drive in towards the dublin interchange. we have now about a 15-minute drive. because of slowing that is developing now out of the altamont pass and heading in for speeds to the 50s that will continue to north livermore over the next half hour. a slower drive also for highway 4 out of antioch and off the bridge. all the way to summer'sville. 66 at willowpast east. that will continue to bleed to concord. partly due to the volume and also due to the fog to the benician bridge. >> mike, thank you very much. the kid gave it everything he had. unfortunately for andrew luck he ends his stanford career suffering a loss at the fiesta bowl. >> i'm not going to say shoulda,
