by next weekend might not be as nice. it looks like we're going to get a wet pattern shaping up. so hopefully you were able to get outdoors over this past weekend. we have more of the same today. 39 degrees right now in san jose. you'll be at about 62 degrees by noon. making your way home from work with 64 comfortable degrees. i'll take through the forecast for tomorrow because you might be bringing your umbrella to work tomorrow in spots. we'll talk about that, first you want to check your drive, another problem is fremont. >> tracking this accident. the traffic is starting to bump up. southbound 880, as you approach heading out of union city and we have considerable slowing. two lanes were blocked. still have the fast lane blocked. that jason called in. thank you, car hit the center divide. we're looking for relief. tow truck to arrive at decota road. >> we'll check back. thank you. it's 6:01. new this morning san jose fire

crews are at the scene of a three-alarm fire at an assisted living center. good morning, marla. >> reporter: laura, good morning. five in all were taken to the hospital. the good news is they are not critically injured. in fact, the captain on scene tells me that they are being treated for stress-related injuries such as hypertension and chest pain. let's get a look at the damage, though, four units out of the eight-unit building suffered heavy damage. this is mayfair golden manor apartments that serve seniors. they were awakened about 1:45 this morning. it was a single alarm fire that quickly escalated to three alarms. 20 to 40 people had to be evacuated and firefighters say because of the age of these folks here it was not easy. they called on police officers

for their help. >> we couldn't have done it without our fellow officers. they were able to help us. >> there was a lot of panic, then we had language barriers so it was a challenge to make sure everybody was accounted for. >> reporter: officials say 16 seniors in all are displaced this morning. they are being assisted by red cross who is actually on scene out here. the fire was contained by 3:00 this morning. we are giving you a live look as the firefighters now wrap up this, their hard work is done. now the investigation into the cause continues. it appears to be accidental. live in san jose. >> thank you for the update. 6:03. in the north bay police are on the hunt for a serial arsonist. police say someone set more than 15 small fires between 9:00 p.m.

start and 3:00 a.m. sunday. they were set at five locations. one of the fires was in a dumpster, the others were brush fires no. homes were damaged. >> iran announcing its sentencing a u.s. iranian citizen to death for spying. amir mirza hekmati was born in arizona. the u.s. denies he is a spy and is demanding his release. iran says he worked for the cia. the sentence coming at a time of heightened tension between iran and the west. there are reports iran has a new nuclear facility. an iranian center says a new facility opened said to be protected from airstrikes. the newspaper says the uranium is needed to help cancer patients. >> a assemblyman wants to see improvements to gas pipe line saext jerry hill is proposing three new bills.

arrests. it happened at giamona drive. seems at this point these fights are happening a bit on the weekend. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. in this case punches were thrown at police officers, seven were arrested. it happened at bar here behind me. and police didn't have far to go to break it up. that's because the police department is right there across the street. the brick building. an officer on patrol saw the fight early sunday morning. it was way out of hand with about 15 people fighting. another officer was punched in the face trying to stop a fight. officer stunned the sbpt a taser and the crowd came to the suspect's defense. in the past month there is have been several bar fights in walnut creek. two years ago the city formed a task force to try to solve these but some feel not enough has

that the jet stream is going to take a dip and bring some of that moisture our way. the bull's eye has been the pacific northwest. we've got clear conditions because of offshore flow all the way from san francisco to san jose. we'll get beautiful shots for you momentarily. by tomorrow a cloudy start. limited sunshine until about 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. a few coastal showers. looking promises for that especially to the north of the golden gate bridge. by wednesday if we pick up the moisture i think we'll see dense fog develop on wednesday morning. so, enjoy that clear coastline today. warm dry conditions as of shore flow continues. a comfortable afternoon. it's the last day of near-record territory. we'll drop our temperatures as we head through tomorrow. 65 in san rafael. about 70 in gilroy.

we need that wet pattern. looks like things are going to start to change, not just tomorrow. you can see most of that shower activity is offshore. i think we'll see couple of cells push onshore. expecting showers of daly city by tomorrow. as we head through the week, comfortable, cooler, patchy nothing on thursday, by friday mild conditions. looks like the wet pattern develops. i'll explain coming up. first talking to mike about your drive. >> we're seeing more folks on the roadway as the last of those vacationers are back at work. but we have the earlier car fire reported southbound 87. sounds like a non-issue. but southbound 101 there is an issue, a new accident around blossom bill, they are more crowded. if you're heading south toward

85 no that. activity doesn't look like lanes or blocked. slowing 880 out of union city and down toward fremont. the earlier accident at decota road should be off the shoulder but the flashing lights and the early slowing as the volume is slowing continues the slowing between the bridges. expect that and we'll see how the commute shapes up. we'll look at the approach and speeds the end of the 50s. the volume increases now toward the bay bridge toll plaza with no metering lights. the east shore freeway eastbound 80 that's away from the bridge, a jackknifed semitruck and a truck in with that truck. sounds like at least one lane is affected. no metering lights yet. >> thanks, mike. on that long campaign trail, all of the candidates except for

>> welcome back everyone. another beautiful day in the neighborhood. traffic flows smoothly on the golden gate bridge. i hear there is a little bit of a party coming up on this thing. >> a little bit? it's going to be a big one. today we're going to get a look at the events planned to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the golden gate bridge. organizers will announce details of the year-long celebration. they include improvements to the bridge and the lands on both sides of the bridge. a big celebration will take place memorial day weekend. nbc bay area is an official

broadcast partner. bicycles and pedestrians have to share the same sidewalk on the bridge starting today. the west sidewalk which is reserved for cyclists will be closed for construction until april. su so they have to share the east sidewalk. the construction is part of the planned celebration. it will upgrade also a trail that sects state parklands with the span. >> seems oakland mayor jean quan is ready to give facebook another try. she was originally driven away by cruel words. >> one of the great things about the country you can disagree with your leaders. some on hearse fan page went a lot further. racist, sex is comments about oakland's first femalishian smal. all of this occupy crockdown. quan's staff could no longer manage her page because they were buried under comments we

meteorologist christina loren to tell us what else we can do in this weather. >> what's funny at one point roller-skating became cooler than inline skating recently. that's interesting. it's cool to roller skate with jon kelley. 29 in gilroy, though, it's chilly. before you head out to do anything grab your jacket. but something that you can peel off by about noon today. we're going to see a gorgeous afternoon with temperatures at about 62 degrees inland at noon. right by the water we'll see about 58 degrees as you break for lunch. rounding out the day, 64 at 5:00 p.m. the last day of near record warmth. you might bring that umbrella. we'll tell you where. >> more serious crash made serious while the commute is back in full force. this accident eastshore freeway, westbound at berkeley. university avenue, now, lanes just cleared but we had a jackknifed big rig and a bikup truck that got into an accident. concerned for the drivers.

sounds like no serious injuries but slowing out of richmond, sand pablo and berkeley. this is providing a little relieve at the toll plaza. look at the slow be. plan extra time down to the toll. >> thank you, mike. >> 6:31 now. right now san jose firefighters still on the scene of a three-alarm fire at an assisted living center. marla has been on the story all morning. we're hearing details maybe a list of injuries as well. is that right? >> reporter: jon, that is right. i'll mention right away those injuries are not critical, that is according to the captain on scene. when we arrived it was a chaotic scene. the last engine just pulled out of this lot here. the flames are out. that's the good news. but the damage is done and we just got our hands on some very telling video shot by a neighbor. it shows raging flames at the height of the fire.

the call came in about 1:45 this morning at the mayfair golden manor apartments. it escalated to three alarms. it took about 50 firefighters an hour or so to knock down the flames. mayfair serves seniors, the captain tells me of the 20 to 40 evacuated, 16 are displaced this morning. but getting them to safety was a challenge. >> it is a high risk situation when you have senior housing and middle of the night fire. couldn't be more pleased with the work of our crews and with the outcome. thankfully nobody was killed. >> reporter: five people in all taken to the hospital. we're told injuries are not critical. back on scene, as i mentioned the crews have now left. the cause is under investigation. the captain tells me it may have started on the roof. that has not been confirmed.

it appears accidental. live in san jose, marla tellez. jon and laura. >> thank you. >> 6:32. police are searching for a serial arsonist who set more than 15 small fires in the north bay. novato police say someone set the tires between 9:00 and 3:00 sunday morning. they were set at five locations around the city. one of the fires was in a dumpster no. homes were damaged. any one with information is to call novato police. >> an american-born man has 20 days to appeal his death sentence in iran. the country says the fman is a spy for the cia. the man was born in arizona but has dual citizenship in the u.s. and iran. the state department says he is not a spy and is demanding his relea release. >> the case involving the 1999 killing of former raider heads

back to court. selection starts in the retrial. a jury convicted him of murder back in 2001. he admitted to strangling her as the two were dating but in 2009 an appellate court threw out the conviction saying the jury pool was -- they will argue the killing was manslaughter, not murder. >> season tickets for the new 49ers stadium go on sale today. but if you want premium seats be prepared to shell out big bucks. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: laura, good morning. across from us here at the sports center is the empty lot where this stadium will be built expected to cost $1 billion. that might explain the hefty price tag for the premium seats. the fub seats up to $3750.

the major candidates have gotten into a similar habit. they are all ganging up on front-runner mitt romney. we get the latest from tracie potts live in manchester, new hampshire. good morning, tracie. >> reporter: good morning. there is good reason for that, mitt romney is ahead by double digits but his lead is slipping. we have two brand new polls out in the last couple of hour this is morning, both of which show him with a double digit lead but the one poll is a daily tracking poll. it shows his numbers down 10% just since last week. since the iowa caucuses. in second place ron paul followed by jon huntsman who put his focus on new hampshire. we saw newt gingrich who by the way is fourth in this latest suffolk university poll, he talked about that poll and talked about the slipping in mitt romney's lead that people are paying more attention to his

flames completely engulf four units. these are the mayfair golden manorapartments. this is shot by a neighbor. these host seniors. most are in their 70s, most don't speak english so crews were up against a language barrier. in all, 20 to 40 people had to be evacuated. 16 are displaced. they are getting assisted by the red cross. five are being treated for injuries. the captain tells me the good news is injuries are not critical but stress related such as chest pain and hypertension. it took about an hour for crews to knock down this three-alarm fire called in shortly before 2:00 this morning. the captain tells me he has no reason to believe that arson is to blame. he says the cause appears to be accidental. we're live in san jose.

15 people in a straet brawl here at 7 of them arrested over the weekend. one person allegedly punched a police officer in the face who was trying to break up a fight. this was early sunday outside shiro restaurant and lounge. the fight over a stolen gold chain. more than two years ago the city came up with a task force to try and solve late night problems. many neighbors say not enough is being done. the police association points out that while the downtown has grown they have fewer officers available to handle it all. walnut creek police still looking for witnesses to that fight. >> city of an san considering new rules for dog walkers. the land use committee will look at legislation requiring dog
