police don't normally name juvenile suspects but they believe that in this case the risk to society outweighs his privacy and figured after identifying him they would have a better chance of catching him. police in oakland released his name, it's brionn glasper, a 14-year-old boy accused of sexually assaulting two women twice his age, the most recent attack taking place this past thursday, this was on 11th street between 980 and mlk here in oakland, the other ten days ago on market street. in both instances glasper approached the 28-year-old women on the street, one of whom had been walking, the other on her bike. he then pretended to have a gun, took their wallet or purse, then forced them into an isolated area where he allegedly sexually assaulted them. police are not releasing his photo but put out a description of the suspect. he is african-american, 5'5", 110 pounds action black hair, brown eyes, opd does believe he

is armed and certainly dangerous. reporting live in oakland, bob redell, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, bob. pleasanton police are searching for the shooter who wounded a man. the fight erupted in the neo nightclub around 1:30 sunday morning. the brawlers spilled onto the streets where a man was shot. he is expected to live. any one with information should call pleasanton police. >> a routine traffic stop turns deadly. police stopping a 42-year-old man on suspicion of drunk driving saturday night on karen drive near san tomas expressway. the driver was uncooperative and reached for a gun, causing the officer to shoot and kill him. an investigation is under way. the officer is on paid administrative leave. >> a gilroy woman behind bars today accused of drunk driving in a rollover crash that killed

her husband and her daughter. the woman's 1-year-old grandson did survive with some minor injuries. this all happened saturday afternoon on 85 north of winchester boulevard in los gatos. 51-year-old stacey lonberg was speeding when she sideswiped a car and crashed. she was arrested for dui and felony vehicular manslaughter. >> 5:03 now. warning this morning for craigslist users after a string of armed robberies. the police department is urging buyers and sellers to use caution when they use craigslist. police say the robbers post bogus ads to lure victims. they also respond to sellers. when the victims arrive to complete the sale they are robbed. users should use caution when selling to strangers or visiting unfamiliar places. >> two people are facing charges this morning after a mostly peaceful occupy protest about 125 demonstrators marching through downtown oakland saturday night. two were arrested for creating a

barricade on the stwreet a dumpster. organizers say the march is the second in what will be weekly protests against the police department. last week six people were arrested during a similar protest. >> the gop presidential nomination about to get smaller. jon huntsman is expected to hold a news conference to announce he is dropping out of the race. huntsman is expected to meet with mitt romney, most likely to offer his endorsement. a spokesperson for the former utah governor is not one to stand in the way of the candidate best able to beat barack obama. >> coming up at 5:30 we'll take you live to washington for a look at how this will affect the gop race for president. >> community leaders making san francisco a san francisco neighborhood a safer one, one brush stroke at a time. work begins on a sidewalk mural set to span 11 blocks in the tender loin district. it's part of a safe passage project designed to spruce up the neighborhood and increase

>> coming off a big football weekend, candlestick park will host the nfc championship. was it a wild weekend. thanks to the new york giants win yesterday the 49ers host the giants on sunday. season ticket holders have their tickets. the rest of the public has to wait until wednesday morning. the niners and the giants play at 3:30. security is going to be tight to make sure fans do not get out of hand. for the most part things during saturday's game operaty peaceful. 19 people were arrested for things like resisting police officers. intoxication and battery. one person was arrested for selling counterfeit tickets. >> the new york giants' win over green bay means things should heat up in the search for a new raiders head coach. new oakland general manager reggie mckenzie worked in the packers personnel department so he does know the coaching staff. now that the packer season is over it's likely a number of the team's assistant coaches will

get that call to come to the bay area to interview for the raiders open head coaching job. >> we're looking toward the weekend with that big game. might we get rain? i know we could toward the end of the week. >> i'm forecasting showers starting wednesday lasting all the way through saturday at least. we might be dealing with showers all the way through next week as well. now that the jet stream has finally taken a sufficient dip to the south. you can see what's happening here. we're not getting showers today but all of this cold air ushered in by that jet. and then look at this, this is going to change our pattern dramatically. we had to wait for winter. about a month late but boy, it will arrive. it's cold out there this morning. one benefit we have from that jet stream and more of an onshore flow, good air quality. finally. you're only in the moderate range in the north bay. we're looking good in terms of air quality. it is frigid out there this morning. make sure you're ready for that. 38 in san jose. we have about two additional hours of warming before we hit

>> welcome back. we give you a live look outside at san francisco. that is sfo, and we had this survey out. san francisco, if you didn't know, is ranking number 8 in the country as the city -- best city to find a date. if the you are looking for love go out and find some. >> don't say if you are look forge a man head to alaska. they are hiring but you have to be willing to shovel. the alaskan town of valdez is so deep in snow it's looking to hire people to dig it out. look for the men. 322 inches of snow have fallen so far this winter. this is what it looked like in the nearby town of cordova where they had to call in the national guard to help. valdez does not look much different. the town hired 170 people to help with all of that digging.

but they need about 50 more. snow shoveling doesn't pay too bad. $20.30 per hour. you have to be strong. must be 18 and have a full supply of winter gear. >> as they say, good shovel is hard to find. >> tough on the back. >> with all of that snow, is that going to cause some of that to come in? is that why we're getting rain? >> we're not going to shovel snow here. nothing like that but we are going to be measuring rain and we need that rain. it's on the way so. that's great news for me and all of the meteorologists across the bay area who have just been waiting for something to talk about this winter. you can see completely clear along the golden gate bridge this morning. and it's not because of offshore flow. finally we have more of an onshore flow. right to the satellite imagery. that jet stream taking a significant dip to the south. all of these spotty clouds, that's cold air pushing into the bay area. and this, this is our weathermaker, this is going to change the pattern as we head throughout this week.

we've got not just a little bit of rain, a lot of rain on the way. looks like it's going to stick around for sometime. which is great news for us. we need it. not only for air quality, we've got to have the snow pack to replenish our water supply in the summer months. freeze warning for the north bay, east bay and south bay. that's until about 8:00 a.m. they might have to extend it as temperatures are going to remain on the cool side. 27 degrees in livermore, at 45 by noon. then rounding out the day in the upper 50s. almost a 20-degree dropoff in daytime highs from last week. we've got major changes on the way. we'll take you through all of those as we head throughout the morning hours, i'm tracking the system. we're talking about snow and of course i know it's early but hey, it's not too early to be excited about the niners taking on new york right here in candlestick. now, candlestick doesn't have a roof so you need to bring an umbrella if you are headed to the game. 55 degrees, showers, looks like weather will come into play in this weekend's big game. are we excited about that.

thursday, on and off showers, the rain arrives on friday. then saturday, like i said 56 degrees, a few showers, get that jacket, that umbrella ready to go. hey, a little rain's not going to keep our boys down. >> not a chance after that win over the saints, that was phenomenal. rescue operations on the capsized italian cruise ship have been suspend after the ship began shifting and sliding on the ocean floor. at least 16 people still missing including two americans. this is amateur video showing terrified passengers waiting to be evacuated after the ship ran aground off the coast of italy friday. the death toll now stands at six. the ship's captain in police custody accused of manslaughter and abandoning his ship before passengers were evacuated. the cruise line says he made a, quote, unauthorized deviation leading to a collision with a submerged object. passengers criticizing the evacuation calling it chaotic. >> we were going to die in the

big ship. we're going to die in the small boat because they didn't know how to work it and i thought it was going to tim over. we were just drown. >> these are live pictures you're looking at now of the ship on its side. that is a phenomenal shot. the number of unaccounted for was increased to 16 because two women originally listed among evacuated have not yet contacted relatives. >> 5:19 now. apple is reportedly letting outside monitors into its factories in an effort to stop labor criticism. the the company is making the move in response after one plant threatened mass suicide because of working conditions. critics have accused apple of sweat shop manufacturing. apple began audits of its manufacturers about six years ago checking for underage workers and involuntary laborers and workers were sticking to a maximum work week of 60 hours. apple admits just 38% of its

facilities are in compliance. >> this weekend marked the third anniversary of the flight known as the miracle on the hudson. that is when danville's captain sully sullen berg guided the flight to that safe landing on new york's hudson river. the fuselage of the jet on display at the carolina aviation museum in charlotte. some of the passengers on the flight took part in a panel discussion saturday. everyone on board, every person, did survive. >> hollywood celebrated the top performers. in the comedy or music category, the movie "the artist" scored best picture. john did you jar dean was named best actor for his performance as a silent film star. >> thank you. >> a lot of fun. michelle williams won her first globe for best actress in a

details on the cold case but say they are comparing dna evidence. >> san francisco sheriff says he will be at work tomorrow despite domestic violence charges filed against him. he was charged friday with three misdemeanors connected to an alleged domestic violence incidence on new year's eve. he says he will fight charges and he will not step down. anti-violence -- anti-domestic violence advocates demand he resign. mayor ed lee is reviewing the facts of the case to determine whether he will remove mirkarimi from office. >> the obama administration under new scrutiny as we try to figure out when it knew solyndra was in trouble. business and tech reporter scott mcgrew has the latest details that have come to light. >> good morning. the white house releasing more e-mails over the weekend that show without a doubt the administration knew ahead of the midterm elections in 2010 that solyndra was planning its first round of layoffs but that in

itself is not a bombshell because there is no evidence the white house then did anything with that information. previously we have seen evidence the department of energy ernlged solyndra to delay the layoffs but the latest e-mails do not pull the white house into the same boat. solyndra laid off about 200 employees shortly after the november 3, 2010 elections, and then shut down completely last september. separately a group called americans for prosperity will air a new ad using the solyndra controversy against the president. >> economic growth will always be companies like solyndra. >> we all know about solyndra t white house e-mails, the fbi raids so. lin dra investors raised com pain money for the president. the government gives a half billion in taxpayer money, politics as usual. >> that circle is true, that did happen but whether or not the influence was intentional, laura, that has never been proven. it's never been proven there was

and 9:00, volunteers from the station here, nbc bay area, will team up to clean up the ulistac natural area on lick mill boulevard in santa clara. at 10:00, urban relief will plant trees. >> people can also honor ter the life of dr. martin luther king, jr. with the annual freedom train ride. it will depart at 9:30. it will make stops in sunnyvale, palo alto and san mateo before arriving in san francisco. a limited number of tickets to ride the train may still be available. they are sold by south bay mlk association group. >> checking in with christina loren, sounds like the forecast is bundle up and get ready for rain. >> yeah. i'm beaming with excitement. we need these showers and boy, we've got a lot of rain on the way. i think by sunday we'll certainly be measuring the sierra snowpack in feet.

we are looking so good for moisture around here. this is our weathermaker. and when we had rain chances that we told you about earlier this month and last month, we were building up 20%, 30% chances. this week we have 80% to 90%, almost 100% chance of rain. this is the national weather service giving you that forecast. i think we're going to see rain starting on wednesday, especially in the north bay, thursday and friday look like washouts. make your indoor plans for those days. saturday, continuing on with that wet pattern. then sunday, might be a clearing day but overall the jet stream doesn't seem right now to be going anywhere. so i think we're going to talk about wet weather on sunday as well. i'm a little reluctant to put that on my 7-day. freeze warning in place, that's the story for the morning. north bay, east bay and south bay. also the interior section of the peninsula, make sure you give yourself ample time to possibly scrape frost off your windshield. throughout the day today your hour by hour forecast shows you we climb from the 20s and 30s

a republican candidate who dropped out of palo alto high school as a teen is dropping out of the presidential race. we're talking about the bay area's jon huntsman. tracie potts has more on huntsman's decision and which of his former rivals he will endorse. >> good morning. we're getting word that jon huntsman will in fact officially bow out of the race, actually in a few hours from now, later this morning, and endorse mitt romney. now, this is interesting. we also often don't get an endorsement as soon as the candidate drops out of the race and also the timing is sort of interesting because just over the weekend the biggest newspaper in south carolina where the next primary is being held saturday endorsed huntsman over romney saying they thought he was better qualified to be president and as they put it, more principled. but huntsman decided to bow out according to a spokesperson, he says he doesn't want to stand in the way of the candidate who is

best prepared to beat barack obama. so, as we talked about earlier in the race, this has become a big issue, of electability. even in the conservative south rick santorum and newt gingrich thought they might make a stronger stand and get more voters. so we're waiting that announce; jon huntsman out of this race now. we're expecting him to announce later today based on the sources we have, and endorsing mitt romney. no word how soon we might see the two of them together on the campaign trail. >> that is a big announcement. with huntsman out of the race what can we expect to hear from the other candidates tonight? >> tonight expect them to focus more and more on mitt romney. he's got the momentum here coming out of iowa, out of new hampshire with that big win, and now leading in the polls by about 7 points on average in the recent polls. it looks like he's got the momentum. you can expect all of the

candidates especially gingrich who made it clear that he's trying to make this a choice between him and romney. you can expect them all pretty much to target him tonight. >> mitt romney clearly the man to catch. thank you very much. >> looking at the big picture president obama and mitt romney are pretty much tied in the hypothetical match-up. a poll released shows 46% would back president obama, 45% would support romney. it's well twn margin of error. >> this is a huge story, rescue operations on the capsized italian ship have been suspend after the ship began slipping from its resting place. this released video shows frightened passengers waiting to be evacuated after the ship ran aground on friday. you can hear the ship's crew calling for calm over the public address system saying that the situation is under control which clearly it was not. you are looking now live at a

shot of this at least 16 people still missing, six people confirmed dead. the ship's captain remains in custody accused of manslaughter and abandoning his ship before passengers were evacuated. that's mind blowing looking at that shot. >> amazing. 5:45. a blow for parents in california's struggling to find work. the governor says he will give you two years to get a job before you could lose half of the welfare cash. wonderful cuts would save the state about $1 billion and help bridge the $9.2 billion budget gap. the governor says california is being penalized for the feds, by the feds, for having too many parent who is work fewer than 30 hours a week. even well qualified workers are struggling to find jobs in this economy. the governor admits it's not nice but he says it is necessary to balance the budget. >> 5:45 now. here's one way to make a meteorologist smile on a monday.

temperatures in the 40s in the city but that's only in the city. elsewhere it's very cold. i expect the temperatures to drop in the 30s in oak town this morning. you can see major dip in the jet stream. all of these spotty clouds are an indication of cold air mass settling in. but this is our weathermaker out here. this is going to change substantially what we're dealing with over the past week. we had that sunshine, we had a spare the air. quite a contrast to what we expect this week. so, 57 degrees in san jose. down from the 70s last week. 57 in concord. 55 in napa, 55 in san francisco. as we head throughout the rest of the week, temperatures stay on the cool side. you need keep that jacket handy. and as you can see here, let's time out the rain showers for you. temperatures are going to stay on the cool side. then the rain arrives on wednesday. 5:00 p.m. the showers going to spread to the south. san francisco getting your first showers about 7:00 p.m. wednesday. and once we start that wet
