friday. congratulations everybody. just about 5:00. i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> good morning everyone. i'm jon kelley. it's time to say good morning to christina lorento find out what's happening. >> more rain is happening. you know what, it was so refreshing to look out your front door and see the showers coming down. it's been so long. well, you might be cursing the rain come tonight. we've got heavy periods on the way. we'll track that for you for your city. first, we want to check how the rain might be impacting your drive. >> all that rain just the first of the three storms you're talking about, let's look at the golden gate bridge. wet pavement and slick conditions north of here, an advisory saying there is some flooding around sir francis drake southbound 101. there is no surprise, but it's pretty early in the three-storm system to be kicking off. we'll watch for more reports of flooding. >> thank you. >> it is 5:00 right now. if you are planning to be near

san francisco's financial district today, please be forewarned. occupy protesters planning a day-long demonstration on what they call occupy wall street west. christie smith is live now with more on today's demonstration and with what the protesters are demanding. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. happy friday. these demonstrators are going to have wet weather to deal with in san francisco. but that certainly hasn't stopped them in the past. what's happening is they are going to come here in about an hour to justin herman plaza, and then what they call this is really to stop business as usual. they are going to head out into the financial district here in san francisco, targeting a number of businesses and banks. they are going to have demonstrations going on pretty much throughout the day starting at 6:00 this morning. occupy wall street is what they call this west, they are also having events in oakland. they include banks, store, the

federal court. in their own words here is why. >> i'm occupying wall street west because corporations are profiting off the war at the expense of the 99%. >> now, a summer thing they are going to disrupt the flow of banks and commerce outside of banks and atms, they are going to start at 6:00 in the morning with frying a squid, they say, in front of goldman sachs representing a vampire squid. they urge demonstrators to go ahead and bring a frying pan. they will supply the squid. again, this is going on all day from 6:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening. if you are coming into the city, something you should be prepared for. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith. back to you. >> sounds like we should be ready for some interesting visuals in san francisco. 5:02. today's protests in san francisco coincide with more than 100 planned demonstrations

at court houses across the country. today marks the second anniversary of a landmark u.s. supreme court decision that removed most limits on corporate and labor spending in federal elections. demonstrators call for a constitutional amendment to overturn that ruling. they will gather outside court houses including oakland, san francisco and san jose. >> also uc-berkeley faculty stepping in to defuse a possible protest. the students staging a sit-in at kroger hall in protest of recent cuts to some hours at the library. police were going to go in and remove protesters but the bay area news group reports that faculty made a deal with the university. they stayed overnight with the students to help keep the police away. faculty, they were worried about a repeat of last year's incident at uc davis when officers pepper sprayed protesters. >> new this morning fire crews say they are gaining the upper hand on that fast-moving brush

fire burning near reno. the the fire broke out thursday afternoon and quickly burned more than six square miles. this is a live look at the scene. about 2,000 homes are still under evacuation orders this morning. schools, highways and businesses in the area are all closed. fire crews say the bush fire has already had devastating effects. >> we are able to confirm that we have had in excess of 20 structures lost. these aren't outbuildings, these aren't barns, these are homes. >> at least one death has been reported in relation to the fire, but officials will not say if the fire is directly responsible. >> it's 5:04. san francisco police looking for a suspect in the city's second homicide of the year. police say 31-year-old man was shot to death while sitting in his car last night in the bay view district.

investigators say a drug deal may have been involved in this. they are asking for the public's help to try to find the gunman. >> police have found more victims of a mt. diablo school custodian accused of abusing boys. the times reports three more alleged victims of john astor have come forward, all younger than 14. the 44-year-old was arrested last month on suspicion of molesting two boys between 1995 and 2003. he pleaded not guilty the charges yesterday and will be back in court next month. >> a san francisco muni driver expected in court this morning to face charges stemming from a fatal accident that happened last year. wallace logins charged with vehicular manslaughter. prosecutors say he should have seen the 23-year-old woman he hit in the crosswalk while making a left turn. investigators say loggens didn't know he hit somebody until a bystander screamed. >> san francisco muni workers

spent the night pulling that suv out of a train tunnel. around 6:00 yesterday police suspect 40-year-old scott mitchell was driving drunk when he drove his suv the wrong way into the duboce tunnel. crews spent two hours taking the the suv off the tracks. they left it in the tunnel so service could get back to normal. they worked to pull out the suv uv. >> california's high court trying to clear the air now over medical marijuana's situation in the state. the the california supreme court will review two lower court rulings that affect how the counties and the cities regulate dispensaries. the issue whether local governments can ban pot shops. two lower courts ruled that cities can in fact outlaw dispensaries because marijuana use is illegal under federal law. >> we are two days from the niners facing off with the giants at candlestick park.

jon is excited. at stake of course the nfc championship. the winner goes on to super bowl xlvi and no pressure, right. not at all. bob redell joins us live where no doubt he is getting an earful. >> reporter: they went on the air, good morning to you. there will be a lot of fans calling in to talk about what is going to be happening on sunday. we're going to catch up with them during a break in a little bit. of course the 49ers the talk of san francisco, the bay area for that matter. even driving up 101, this is what we saw. we took a detour to the international terminal at sfo where the electricians changed the light bulbs for san francisco international and doused that sign and that side of the wall in red and gold. in honor of the 49ers taking on

the giants this weekend. kickoff 3:30 for the nfc championship. on a serious side, san francisco police chief greg sur is urging 49ers fans to keep their cool during the game. this is after last weekend's game against the saints where there were complaints of fans giving some of the 49ers giving some of the saints fans a hard time, cussing at them, that sort of thing. there were 20 people arrested, many more ejected. again asking fans to keep their cool. they are going to have more officers throughout, they said about 25% increase over what they would normally have. the chief is quoted as saying if the 49ers win and go to the super bowl you can imagine there will be quite a celebration. they will be prepared for that just as they were when the giants won the world series. reporting live, bob redell, nbc bay area news. >> bob, thank you.

if you're one of the long list of pumped up fans desperate to get tickets, we're not sure if you're going to like this. san francisco's elected officials, they are guaranteed tickets to the game, turns out lawmakers, they had a special deal from the recreation and park department. the mayor has his own luxury box which seats about 10 people. members of the board of supervisors offered two tickets to every home game and two tickets to every playoff game. so i guess politics does pay. >> mayor lee, have i told you what a great mayor you are. yeah. let's check the forecast. let's talk about the sunday forecast. meteorologist christina loren in the nbc bay area weather center. >> good morning to you. we've got rain coming down right now, let's go ahead and pinpoint the showers for you this morning. we want you to get to work safely. you can see light showers mostly

impacting areas south of the golden gate bridge. as you head throughout the day we're going to see spotty showers early, then the steady rain moves in, courtesy of a second more powerful storm pushing on shore. so we've got three to get through, we're pretty much done with the first one. the second one moves in through tonight. that's when we'll see the heaviest of the rain. by saturday, a little bit of a break. we'll see mostly clear conditions, passing clouds, then possibly afternoon thunderstorms. we could see strong thunderstorms tomorrow with a lot of instability. enough daytime heating. sunday, the third system arrives, this one potent and looks like it's going to arrive in time for the big game. so it's probably going to be sloppy. first, these are your temperatures. 55 degrees in concord, 54 in fremont, 56 degrees in gilroy. so, as promised here is our highway man, how does it look out there? >> we'll take you out there and you're showing the showers south of san francisco.

that's where i'm having accidents for the peninsula. highway 92 west of 280, over to or from highway 35 and skyline, an accident this morning. no major injuries but slick roads may be playing a factor. we had the second, the first one the exclamation point cleared from the holly street off ramp. san mateo, may be a spin-out. if that is, again, slick conditions contribute to that. 92 over the water. the san mateo bridge moves smoothly. a camera shakes from time to time. high wind advisory was issued. camera relatively steady. the rain and then the wind we see from time to time could play a factor for your drive. another live look shows the bay bridge. i'm hoping that a litter friday flow will help us ease into the stormy season. back to you. >> thanks. 5:11. the excitement over the nfc championship game continues to build. the city is finding new ways to

show off niners pride. ed lee and members of the niners will raise the team flag over city hall today. the exterior of city hall is lit up at night with the team's colors, red and gold. today's flag raising is at 3:00 this afternoon. >> earlier this week we told you about the wage between mayor ed lee and michael bloomberg about the ball game. how about a bet between bars? the city's popular anchor brewering company made a wager with brooklyn company in new york. the losing team's krurry they have to starve other brewery's beer for a week. and while they pour that they will be decked out in jerseys from the opposing team. no sweat here, you know what's going to happen. the 9ers step up, pound the giants and serving san francisco beer all over new york. >> on the east coast. very good. >> 5:12.

>> welcome back everybody. here is a live look inside san jose mineta international airport. this is the alaska airlines ticket counter. no confirmed delays or consolations out of san jose. however, the wet and icy weather hitting washington state is causing flight trouble in the bay area. three alaskan airlines flights to seattle have been canceled out of oakland this morning.

sfo reports four alaskan airlines flights to seattle are canceled. seattle tacoma airport is dealing with these icy conditions. yesterday the runway had to be scraped and planes de-iced before any one could take off. things were not up and running until almost noon. we'll keep you up to date on the latest travel changes in case you are headed to a bay area airport. >> we'll keep you up to date. right now on the weather here in the bay area. looks like wet and could be slick on the roads. >> yeah. it is slick out there. just with everywhere. some cities are getting a little wind right now. and a break from the rain. hey, there is a lot more on the way so all day long remember, travel with caution. if you are waking up getting ready to take the little ones to school, 46 in gilroy, 49 in livermore. something that's positive out of these storm systems, that we have not seen in some time, rather mild start. san mateo, you're at your high

from yesterday. 53 in hayward. and 52 degrees in san jose. temperatures aren't going to be able to climb that much. limited sunshine and more rain-cooled air on the way. take a look where the showers are. pretty good batch. san francisco, you're getting light showers so watch for slick conditions. and san jose, we haven't had that much rain. a few hundredths of an inch. i think we'll measure up to an inch of rain once we get the second, more powerful storm. it's starting to impact northern california. and your futurecast shows you when it starts to get active. 11:00 a.m., when we start our broadcast we'll be tracking steady rain. then as we head through the overnight hours the heaviest of the rain comes through between 7:00 and 11:00. you can see moderate rain, heavy periods of rain on the way to the south bay so. we're going to make up some of the totals we're lacking over the past 32 days without rain in the bay area. saturday we get a pretty good break. i think we'll see a lot of sunshine on saturday. enough to warm up the

atmosphere, make it unstable and possibly see thunderstorms fire off very likely for that. so we'll track that. of course rob will be here in the weather center. as you can see right now, this is going to be the most active time come sunday. 3:00 p.m., just before the game starts, so i believe they will play football with pretty sloppy conditions out there. yeah, showers on the way for the second half of sunday, we'll get a little bit of shower activity come monday. then tuesday, wednesday, thursday, i am expecting pretty thick fog and high pressure build into the area. that dry pattern kicks off tuesday. >> because of the wet roads the rain we had overnight, you know, there are slick conditions and minor flooding reported around the bay. in the south bay, your northbound routes are moving pretty smoothly. we had a pretty good accident here caused by debris, though. 280 at 87. that was a sigalert. that cleared. this issue here in los gatos,

saratoga, highway 9, the car or truck partly off of one of the smaller bridges there so there will be traffic control locally. no major injuries reported. watch for the slick roads, they could play a factor. we have a spin-out. highway 92 west of 280 that will be on the scene, sorry, chp will be on the scene. we'll move north where we have a little flooding. one of your usual suspects, highway 101 at sir francis drake. minor flooding in one of the lanes southbound. that has kicked off and we have more rain in the forecast. an earlier accident at jamison canyon cleared. a note as you head, we'll end with this, heading to the sierra, bring the chains. they are being screened for chains at applegate. >> investors hoping to end the week on a high note but the financial crisis going on over

in greece could put a stop to that. for details we turn to brian shactman live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. >> good morning. we have a bit of a three-day winning streak. kind of looks like it's a bit of a pause. concerns about the greek debt talks coming back, we're waiting for news, there isn't any and people are getting nervous. yesterday's stocks finished higher again for the third day. we're at six-month highs thanks to encouraging bank earnings and encouraging job status. the s&p slightly better, the nasdaq the best of the bunch. eastman kodak vowing to rebound a day after it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. it has close to $1 billion in financial help from citigroup to help run during the filing. the iconic film manufacturer, they want to focus on consumer and commercial printers. we'll see if that works.

about 20,000 workers at ford set to get a raise. employees reportedly will see salaries rise 2.7% and will get an unspecified bonus in the spring. making the combined pay boost the first since 2008. ford one of the major u.s. auto companies that did not take a u.s. federal bailout. back to you. >> brian, thank you. >> most of the bay area is family when it comes to the fight against secondhand smoke. the american lung association graded cities. california got an a for smoke-free policies. it failed in the smoking cessation program, tobacco prevention and control and cigarette taxes. for bay area cities the three biggest are doing okay but there is room for improvement. san francisco and oakland both received b's, san jose a c. three cities got a's, albany,

of them are here in california. the website careerbliss asked people to rate how satisfied they are with their co-workers, the way they work and what they do. san jose and san francisco both making the list. san jose checked in way at number four. oxnard was fifth, l.a., 21. followed by san diego, checking in at 27. >> shenzhen did not make that list. it continues to cause controversy. scott, what's the latest? >> good morning. the head of fox con, the company that runs those factories in shenzhen seems to call his employees animals. the slight was first reported in the china daily. it reports that tony gow was at a fundraiser, made a joke preparing his job to a

zookeeper. he reported people are animals technically and is responsible for the feeding and well-being of one million. it's causing back lash. you need to be a little cautious. critics in the west are reacting to an english translation of an offhand comment in chinese as reported by a newspaper. there is a lot that can get lost in the process. nonetheless it was still a dumb thing to say. the fbi working with police have busted and shut down a website hollywood accused of storing pirated movies. celebrities often used it as well. it was an online locker to be used for good or evil. one of the things you can take away from this is did we need those controversial laws sopa at all if we can make these busts the next day?

>> good morning to you. thanks for being with us. 5:30, friday morning. i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. we check in with meteorologist christina loren to find out about the wetness and how much more we're going to get. >> possibly two inches here in san jose. that's a lot of rain for a 72-hour period. so, let's talk about what's happening now. the first storm is pretty much finished. the second storm is moving in, we have precipitation coming across the board. this will intensify and i think we're going to get pounded by tonight. i'll take through the hour by hour forecast. it's looking very wet. stay tuned for that. that's coming up. >> thank you so much. 5:31. occupy protesters plan to shut down san francisco's financial district. the massive demonstration is called occupy wall street west. and it could cause massive headaches for commuters.

christie smith is the live in san francisco with more on today's demonstration and the protesters' demands. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. happy friday. it's probably going to be a wet one for the demonstrators out here but that hasn't stopped them before. they are going to start gathering in about 30 minutes at justin herman plaza where the former occupy encampment was for a day of action to stop business as usual in the financial district and the federal courts. they say what they are trying to do is target things that protect corporate interests. they call themselves occupy wall street west. there are also actions going on in berkeley and oakland. i checked out on the website a number of the places they may target. i have to tell you it is long. banks and financial institutions, immigrations and customs enforcement, the state building, also a squid fry in

front of goldman sachs. that's the first stop. and the map when i checked. it winds through downtown into the financial district, throughout all of this they are promising to do a flash mob so it could tie you up if you plan to be in the downtown area today. more on that i'll turn it over to mike inouye and maybe what you should be thinking about if you come into the city. >> christie, because of that i think there are a number of marches scheduled through the area. definitely expect delays on the surface streets. yesterday was a tough drive for folks because of the muni situation. the underground was shut for a period of time. all trains and buses are on time but through the financial district keep in mind they make the march heading down to the bank of america building, down market, and likely pine or california or maybe both. and that will be an issue affecting muni lines. as well as the flash mob you talked about a lot of distractions. of course that squid fry, that

would get me any time. hanging out there. >> no kidding. that's going to be interesting. mike, thanks. >> 5:33. we are just getting word of what's nothing short of a horrible tragedy in afghanistan. a nato helicopter has crashed, six u.s. marines among the ten dead. the crash happening in the helmand province. the cause is being investigated. while there was no enemy activity reported in the area at the time, taliban insurgents claim responsibility. >> at least one person is dead and thousands out of their homes as firefighters battle that fast-moving wild fire near reno. we have a live look at the scene. you can see cal fire crews on scene, struggling to hold the line. all right 20 homes have been destroyed. 2,000 people have been

evacuated. one person was found dead in the fire area but the cause of death has not been determined. >> prosecutors planning to wrap up their presentation in the case against accused serial killer joseph naso. yesterday his ex-wife judith testified that he asked her to claim she had lost her panty hose. she says in september nasowrote a letter to her asking her to say she left her panty hose at work in a restaurant or some other random place. judith says she can't remember leaving them anywhere but at home. her panty hose were found around the neck of one of naso's alleged victims. he of course is accused of killing four women. >> the woman accused of kidnapping and killing michelle le is set to return to court today. giselle esteban has been in and out of the court house since her arrest in september. the legal process has been delayed because esteban gave birth while in jail.

the case hit another speed bump when she asked for a different lawyer. this morning she is scheduled to be arraigned and possibly enter a plea. >> in two days in case you haven't figured it out the niners take on the nofew york giants. the prize of course win that game you advance to super bowl xlvi to be played on super bowl sunday here on nbc february 5. bob redell joins us live from knbr radio in san francisco where 49er fans are blowing up the phone lines. how's it going? >> reporter: good morning. they will if they haven't already be doing that soon with murph and mack. we got done speaking with the two. one thing they were pointing out that this reminds them the same vibe during the world series with the san francisco giants. because it was such a surprise. no one predicted the giants winning it all. no one predicted the 49ers

getting to one game of the super bowl. the 49ers need to beat the giants to go to indianapolis, but this is a vibe that they are getting from fans calling in. >> i think everybody knows that eli has won a lot on the road, i think they know the receivers are good, the four-man pass rush is good so there's great respect for the new york giants. i don't think anybody is looking past them. they come with a lot of weapons. we're going to have weapons too. >> reporter: there is a lot of wattage from fans and san francisco international. this is outside the terminal which we swung by on the way up here off 101, you can see that they had their electricians busy changing out light bulbs, the sign on the side of the build withing with the red and gold, the niners' colors. reporting live in san francisco, bob redell, nbc bay area news. >> thank you for all of that.

icy weather in seattle is affecting the bay area, canceling a list of flights here. this is what it looks like at alaska airlines, a plane looked like at the seattle/tacoma airport. this is a live look at san jose international airport. we can tell sow far no confirmed flight cancellations or delays but that's not true or oakland and sfo. three flights from oakland to seattle have been canceled. >> they are getting snow, we're getting the rain. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren in the nbc bay area weather center for a look at our forecast. >> good morning to you. we've got a lot more rain on the way, the first of three storms, we're pretty much finished with it. ended up with almost an inch of rain. as we head throughout the second half of the day that's when the steady rain moves in. we're getting spotty showers and one benefit of all of that cloud cover coming in, yeah, it's mild

out there. temperatures mostly in the 50s. we'll notice the difference from where we were earlier when we broke temperature records, bottoming out in the teens and 20s. the bad news is the rain will continue as we head throughout this afternoon. and you're going to have limited opportunity to get out without having to dodge showers. so, right now we'll show you where the heaviest rain is coming down, starting to push on shore here. marin county, sonoma county, santa rosa, showers in the next 10 minutes. throw the day the showers more steady across the board. especially for the afternoon hours, then periods of rain overnight. for tomorrow mostly dry early, then we see afternoon thunderstorms possibly strong storms fire off across the bay area with instability in the atmosphere, by sunday game day, looks like we're going to see a dry start. then late afternoon about 3:00 p.m., those showers will roll back in. heavy periods of rain, also we'll see gusty winds, so we'll

take through the 49ers forecast. tell you when the rain stops and when we get sunshine. that's all on the way. >> we have a few issues affecting you heading to 880, the nimitz freeway. in fremont and the newark area, the on ramp for northbound 880, no, an update, the maps said northbound but chp updated southbound. a spin-out at the ramp. talking slicker roads. that's a warning, less traction. no injuries there, no slowing here. we have the on ramp to 880 out of the san leandro, an accident as well. sounds like a bicyclist was hit. a note for visibility as the rain comes town, we'll get a view past the coliseum. you can see traffic moving but look at all of the sheen on the road. slick conditions. be careful.

it's going to pack down nicely to help cover up what is essentially dirt up there in the ski resorts in the sierra. bad for the resorts up to now but the the good news is looking ahead to tonight into saturday we could be measuring snow in feet from the next wave of weather heading our way. this is interstate 80 behind me. they did have chains all the way down to nyak. now around 3:30 lifted those so i-80 and highway 50 are both open with no chain controls at this hour, i got to tell you it's warmed up here. still cold by most standards but barely hanging on to snow. so we're around that snow/rain mix. even here at 7,000 feet. the next system coming in is going to start warm, then get cold and drop the snow line down, that's when we expect to see significant snow in the sierra. that is what everyone up here is waiting for and crossing our fingers for so we can get decent
